  1. I was there and I can tell you it was a nasty injury. Long pass to her while on the run...she jumped to catch it and tried to stop immediately, and the knee just gave out.
  2. Here's a little info on Crockett County. Only 8 players on the roster...2 seniors, 5 sophomores, and 1 freshman. They have had 7 quit the team since Dudley came on board. They couldn't handle her very high expectations or her coaching style. She is tough and expects the same commitment that she had when she played. The remaining 8 are very committed and have worked their butts off to get better. They are currently 6-8 including 4 district wins. Their district wins have come over Ripley, Haywood, Milan and South Gibson....not the greatest competition, but these are teams which beat them by double digits last year. Fundamentally, they have greatly improved in every area and their defense is much better. Depth will be a big issue because of fatigue and foul problems, but there is not much that can be done about that. Another issue is a lack of size...they are getting beat on the boards every night. They are still a long way from competing with the top teams in the district, but having seen every game they have played this year, I can assure you they are vastly improved. Its been a pleasure watching them grow as individuals and as a team. Its also a lot of fun to watch Coach Dudley and her sideline demeanor. She is as intense as any coach I have ever seen...based on her track record as a player you can understand her hatred of losing. Bottom line....she gets results and that's what you hire a coach to do.
  3. As someone who played high school ball 25 years ago, one thing I know for sure.....the game has changed into a much more physical style. I go to a lot of high school games and personally I don't like where the game is today. Today's constant full court pressure, run and gun style leads to a much more physical brand of basketball. If refs today call 40 fouls a game, then the refs in my day would call 60 in the same game. Its difficult for me to understand why constant reaching, grabbing, hand and body checking supposedly makes the game better. To me, basketball has turned into something resembling Monday Night Wrestling. Its no wonder that so many fouls are called...and I don't think the refs call half of what could be called. The refs today have a much more difficult job simply because of the constant pressure that teams apply these days. Zone defenses have gone the way of the two-handed set shot. Everybody presses full court and plays man to man the rare times a team actually sets up and runs an offense. My daughter is just beginning middle school ball and its the same way there. Coaches aren't teaching playing defense with your feet....it's a constant reaching and grab fest. Call me old fashioned, but I think the game is played ugly these days. Oh well, Ill retreat back and watch old UCLA game films now. Just one man's opinion.
  4. http://www.wcta810.com/ will be broadcasting live and over the internet. I dont think they will mind if a Dyer County fan listens.
  5. Defensive Coordinator Andy Brady suffered a stroke on Saturday morning at the fieldhouse.
  6. Humboldt is very athletic and Epperson is a monster on both sides of the ball. However, I can guarantee you that Coach Craig, while happy with the victory over the Cavaliers, is not happy with the turnovers they committed last night. Of course my Cavs helped the Vikings out with 5 of their own. I think any high school coach is concerned when facing a team that can throw like USJ can. Humboldt is succeptable to the pass. Crockett just didn't execute well at all last night throwing the ball.
  7. and you should use a spell check program.
  8. South Side will be the only winner from Region 6 in the 1st round.
  9. Hey, the trusty research department was only on its first cup of coffee when that was posted. Give us a break.
  10. My trusty research department has come up with the following answer: All these teams failed to make the playoffs Class A : Watertown 6-4 McEwen 6-4 Class AAAA: Hixon 6-4 Class AAAAA Ravenwood 6-4 Independance 7-3 Whitehaven 6-4 Collierville 6-4 Meanwhile 17 teams with losing records qualified for the playoffs: 2 teams with 2-8 records 1 team with a 2-7 record 4 teams with 3-7 records 10 teams with 4-6 records.
  11. I'll take the Cavs by 2 touchdowns. The field is going to be wet and I think PA will be as careful as he can to keep everyone healthy. Haywood can earn their way in with a win and to be honest they have nothing to lose and everything in the world to gain. They are playing the AP #1 team in the state and no one expects much of them and expect everything of the Cavs. Ill take a 1 point win and no injuries and be happy.
  12. Gotta give my Cavs major props after this game. I knew the passing game would help but what a performance by all concerned. First the offense. Unofficially, Craig Massey was 8 out of 12 for 243 yards and 3 touchdowns. Covington put 9 in the box and dared the Cavs to throw the ball and well.......they got what they asked for. Also unofficially, the Cavs rushed for 112 yards....and believe me they were hard earned yards. The offensive line (with at least 1 and I believe 2 starters out with injuries) did a fantastic job in pass protection and Massey made perfect pass after perfect pass. And the Johnson Brothers, Matt Reynolds, and A.J. Ingram ran great routes and caught everything within reach. Now to the defense. Super job by the Defensive line and linebackers. Although Covington moved the ball occasionally, someone always came up with a tackle for a loss to help kill drives. Great team effort by a truly underrated defensive unit. The Cavalier offense gets their share of publicity for their greatness, but this defense shows up week after week and simply gets the job done. Congrats to the players and coaches on a Region Championship. Also major kudos to the Crockett County fans who once again followed their team on the road and put more people in the stands than the home team.
  13. Okay, time to throw my prediction out there. This one should be a classic battle between 2 well coached teams with lots of recent tradition. The question is......Can the vaunted defense of Covington stop the offense of Crockett County? We all know about Crockett's running game with the 3 headed monster of Johnson, Johnson, and Perry. But few give credit to Massey's ability to throw the ball. Crockett came out in a no huddle, 4 wide offense against Dyer County and threw the ball at will. Massey finished with 249 yards in barely over 2 quarters. Can the Cavalier offensive line protect Massey and give him time to throw the ball downfield against this speedy Charger defense? I guarantee you he will not have the time to throw that he had against Dyer County. But I feel like if the Cavs mix the pass and run we should be able to move the ball better than any other team has against the Chargers. When the teams change sides, Crockett had better be ready to stop the run because I feel like Covington is gonna try to grind out yards and take as much time off the clock as possible. The Chargers aren't known for their ability to pass but who knows what Coach Murphee and his staff have planned for tonight. I think there will be more scoring than most expect and I believe the Chargers keep this one close.....however Im gonna say Crockett County 21 Covington 14. See everyone in Covington!!
  14. As a Crockett County fan, I realize that I have very little business getting involved in this discussion. However, I just have to add one thing to the mix....... ARE YOU KIDDING? 3 consecutive region championships and a trip to the state finals and semi's. Oh yeah, this coaching staff needs to be questioned. Absolutely. Without a doubt. Come on....the talent is down for this year but jeez. I had the pleasure to see Greenbrier play Crockett in the playoffs several times and I have to say that this coaching staff gets as much out of its players as any team I have seen. They were always fundamentaly sound and well coached. I know there are lots of teams who would trade coaching staffs with you in a heartbeat. Anyone can sit around and question play calling on a weekly basis, but the bottom line is this staff can flat out coach. Good luck to the Greenbrier players the rest of the season. I now return to Region 7AAA and let you guys hash this out.
  15. Should they both win in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs, they would meet in the Semi-finals for a chance to play in the state championship. The first 3 rounds for Crockett would involve the 8 teams that qualify from Regions 7 and 8. Likewise, SS would have to get past the 8 teams in Regions 5 and 6. (Trust me, it will be South Side and Lipscomb in the Quarterfinals). There is sooooooo much football left to be played before that ever happens. I have a feeling Crockett will have to beat both Covington and Dyersburg in the playoffs and the Hawks will have to get by DL before that matchup ever takes place. It would be fun though.
  16. Couldn't go to the game but listened to all of it on the radio. Sounded like the Cavalier D was simply too much for the Ripley offense and that the Cav offense simply pounded and pounded away at Ripley's D. Ball control won this game. Great job all night by the Cavs on 3rd down. It didn't sound pretty but I'll take a 28 point region win on the road anytime.
  17. Should be a great one. This game will be a lot closer than some think. Ill take the Cavs 28-21. Ripley is vastly underrated and the Cavs are due for a bit of a letdown on the road.
  18. How could I be so wrong. Yep...you are over it for sure.
  19. Trust me. The Cavs are thinking about one thing: Ripley. Gold balls and Murfreesboro are weeks and weeks away and not on the top 10 list of things they are worried about right now. And bulldog69....you never have gotten over Crockett County putting your Page team out of the playoffs in '01, '03, and '04.
  20. Sending out prayers from Crockett County. Get well Coach.
  21. Penalties and yardage according to the Jackson Sun: (and yes I realize these are unofficial so chill) Dyersburg: 4 for 20 yards Crockett: 6 for 56 yards I remember 2 false starts and 1 motion penalty for 5 yards for the Trojans but I dont remember the 4th penalty. The way I read it, they had (4) five yard penalties. Not sure where you come up with "always in a 2nd and 20 situation" Maybe, just maybe, Dburgs lack of execution had something to do with the fact that they were playing a good team, whose entire purpose is to stop the other team from executing their game plan. And I never said Massey got hit a lot, I said he was under a good deal of pressure.
  22. Congrats to the Cavs on a super win over a very good Trojan squad. Someone spoke of penalties hurting Dyersburg, and they did, but man oh man did they hurt the Cavs too. 2 second half drives stalled because of holding penalties after nice gains on both plays. That would be the only negative I saw all night. The offensive line played their usual great game and the defense flexed its muscles when they had to late in the game after playing a near perfect first half. Caldwell is a heck of a running back for the Trojans. He is going to get his yards but we contained him pretty well except for their scoring drive in the first half when he gained 48 yards total in the drive. Its scary that he's only a junior. Ill leave the trash talking to others but I will say that I suppose Craig Massey certainly proved that he can get it done in the big games. He was 6-10 for 139 and a touchdown , with most of the completions coming on 3rd and long for big first downs. The kid got the job done, as he always does, and threw strikes all night long under a good deal of pressure from the Dburg D line. He sure doesn't need me to take up for him because he lets his leadership and arm do the talking for him. Nice statement Craig.
  23. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family from all of us in Crockett County. May God bless you and ease your pain and grief as only He can.
  24. Hey VolGen....what that old saying about a blind hog? Nice call I gotta admit. Milan dominated the first quarter and a half until Ron Johnson intercepted a pass and took it 60 or so yards to put the Cavs up 7-0. Milan ran the ensuing kickoff back for a touchdown but the Cavs fought right back on a long pass from Massey to Shaun Johnson. The second half was all Crockett County. Jarvis Perry scored on 3 substantial runs and the defense played much better than the first half. All in all....great start for the Cavaliers. +
