  1. I was told the same thing later on last night by a few people. That's a shame because they had such a great team last year and could have a really good team again this year too.
  2. Ok guys, here is the recap from the 3-way scrimmage at Burke-Toney Stadium tonight. First off, of the 3 teams there, I would say that Morristown West was slightly ahead of Knox West, and Tennessee High was a little bit further behind both teams. I was really surprised to see that the Vikings had a lot less in numbers on the sidelines this season. They probably had 40-45 players dressed out, but they still have a lot of good skill players in place. Knox West is going to have a pretty good football team. They have very good speed, and their offensive line is huge. The left side of their line has some of the biggest linemen I have personally seen on a high school field in a long time. They also have a decent QB and two really good, quick tailbacks. Morristown West moved the ball really effectively after their opening series, and they did most of it on the ground. They did not show a whole bunch in terms of their play calling, obviously playing things close to the vest this early. On defense, the West unit will absolutely hit you. They were laying big hit after big hit all through both sets of scrimmages. Now, here is recap on the 45-minute scrimmages. Knox West 21, Tennessee High 7 The Rebels scored on a 60 yard TD run on their opening drive, and the Vikings drove down and scored on their second possession. West scored again after a 60-plus yard run set them up inside the 10, and they added another score on a 65-yard pass. West defense was pretty good throughout, but Tennessee High used lots of play action to keep moving the ball. Harmon and Shepherd both looked good, and #44 is as good as advertised for the Vikings. Morristown West 17, Tennessee High 14 The Trojans had to punt on their first drive, and the Vikings scored their only TD against the Trojan starters on a 4th and 6 busted play that resulted in a 40-yard TD pass from Harmon to #4. That was the only score that the MoWest defense allowed all night (their defense looked great, with several underclassmen on the field). West put together three straight drives, scoring a TD on an all run drive of 70 yards before forcing a pair of turnovers and adding a 44-yard FG and a TD to take a 17-7 lead. The Vikings scored a TD on the final possession of the scrimmage against the West third unit defense. Morristown West 10, Knox West 7 Both defenses ruled this scrimmage. Each team drove down and missed a field goal in their first drives, and West got the first score on a 40-yard FG by Duncan. MoWest won the scrimmage of the first teamers 3-0 on three possessions each, before both teams third units scored late. Knox West scored a late TD to take the lead, but MoWest hit a 62-yard TD pass to reclaim the lead and were driving past midfield when the scrimmage ended. All in all, it was a good first night of football in Morristown. Probably 400-500 people showed up to watch the scrimmage, and all 3 teams had their moments. Tennessee High should be fine once they get their feet under them, and Knox West is going to be a very talented team. Morristown West appears to have a very solid defensive unit, and their offense will get better every day.
  3. I will update later on how everybody looks at the scrimmage. Looking forward to seeing all 3 teams competing. It's finally football time again!!!
  4. Just thought I would give you guys an update from Morristown.... THe scrimmage has been moved to Burke-Toney Stadium, and it is scheduled to start around 6:30 tonight. Hope everyone can make it down here safely for this 3-way scrimmage
  5. I was told by one of the Morristown West players that they are leaving the school on buses at 5:30, and that the scrimmage should start by 6:30
  6. Bishop is going to have a good year also. I was mostly referring to the fact that Goins is just a sophomore, and we will hear his name a lot over the next couple years. There are going to be a lot of talented sophomores for West this season: Vick Gilbert (LB), Austin 'Woo' Greene (LB), Seth Fleshman (DT), Jarek Berry (LB), Andrew Lee (QB), Jett Pressey (WR), Isiah McKinney (DB). Loads of young talent that will see lots of time this season.
  7. That's what has been said down here. They were trying to move the scrimmage due to the heavy rain here in Morristown yesterday and today. They're probably going to start it up around 4 or 4:30 at Burke-Toney Stadium. Looking forward to seeing what Tennessee High and Knox West have this season in this 3-way scrimmage.
  8. I have no idea what most people are seeing in JCHS for this season. You simply cannot lose the talent that they lost (graduation and transfers) and win this conference, no matter that they are one of the two 6A teams in the league along with Sevier County. And if I remember correctly, Sevier County absolutely manhandled JCHS last season. Don't get me wrong though, JCHS will still have talent in place, but not enough to win the conference. My pick is Morristown West to win the IMAC. A lot of people are going to be shocked when they see the Trojans play this season. They're loaded with talent, and most of it is young talent also. Remember this name: Wesley Goins. IMAC 1) Morristown West 2) Sevier County 3) Morristown East 4) Jefferson County 5) Seymour 6) Cherokee 7) South Doyle 8) Cocke County
  9. The transfer was Lambert, sophomore linebacker
  10. Tiesyn is on the freshman team at West, and that is where he will stay. He's a talented player no doubt, but he is not ready for the varsity field yet (at East or West).
  11. 72, Is it true that Tee Howell took more snaps on the defensive side of the field in the spring? Is that looking like his position in the fall? Is Ricker going to be the man at QB if that is the case?
  12. McCurry has returned to North Carolina to be a head coach at a big school. I want to say it's in Hendersonville, but I'm not for sure.
  13. Learned this week that Tiesyn Howell will not be part of the freshman group incoming at East this fall. He will be going to school at West. He attended basketball tryouts at West this week and made the freshman team.
  14. Creech has applied and apparently is a frontrunner for the job (his name has been mentioned on here by someone else connected to the school - I have no ties to SDHS), and his experience as a juco coach is more valuable than you think. He has shown an ability to communicate with young kids and help turn them into winners right out of high school at Walters State. His ability to recruit kids could help him get more athletes out of the halls at South Doyle and into the gym.
  15. Derek Creech, assistant coach at Walters State, would be a great hire. He's a young coach as well, and he has 5+ years experience coaching under Coach Carlyle at WSCC. They have been to a couple national tournaments in that time, and Derek was the main recruiter behind those classes.
  16. It's official. Dag Berquist new coach at East
  17. Tracy Beets - former West Greene head coach and former Morristown West assistant coach Derek Creech - current Walters State assistant coach Both would do a good job there
  18. Sources are swirling that Morristown East has hired Dag Berquist as their new head coach
  19. From the word going around, all 3 current assistant coaches applied for the job but were told they were not in the running. Not sure who the other four finalists are, but the interviews are all happening this week and possibly into early next week.
  20. I agree with DodgerSS, and apparently so does the administration at MoEast. Derek Creech is a finalist for the job and is one of five applicants being granted an interview. Good luck to Derek in the interview. Hopefully this young coach will get the opportunity that both Chris Gillies and Tracy Cloninger have already received. Derek would be a fine pick for the job.
  21. Here's the official word from Coach Wright himself. Wright resigns at Morristown East to take Murfreesboro Oakland job
  22. He just accepted the job this morning. He met with the team and the administration at Morristown East today to break the news to them first.
  23. It's official. Mike Wright from Morristown East has accepted the Murfreesboro Oakland job
  24. If the GHS schedule stays the same, Stacia will miss the Morristown East game on Tuesday and then the North Greene game later in the week.
  25. Defensive coordinator Billy Seals has accepted the head coaching job at Huntington High School in Huntington, West Virginia. Good luck to Billy! Link: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/x376...m-Tennessee?i=0
