  1. Hunters Lane gave Antioch quite a scare last night............Antioch's backcourt will have to adjust if they plan to go far in the regions/substate/state. Offensively they are fine, but defensively they reach and gamble to much. They will probably foul out, officials from other regions probably won't let them get away with all of their reaching...........Upton plays to many minutes, they must find someone to come in and relieve him in close ball games. 12-AAA is Way down. I think it started with last yrs Freshman crop overall being down. I don't know if the end is near. Overton(11aaa) has a few good FR, as does Maplewood. Haven't seen E. Lit, I hear they have an outstanding group this yr. Hillsboro(11aaa) has a few good players but have no discipline. As usual Antioch has some good players.
  2. Deontay will play point guard at the next level. He scores a lot of points for glencliff because he is a good scorer/shooter and is Glencliff's best player. He is one of their best ball handlers too, so he has to wear several hats for Glencliff. But Deontay has the natural court vision that most point guards have(and he'll utilize that at the next level). He is not like Gerald Robinson who played at MLK last yr, who is a natural scorer and does not possess the court vision that Deontay has. Good luck to Deontay, he will be a major D1 recruit by his senior yr.
  3. How did Perry end up there from Overton. She could be the missing link for hillsboro. She is good.............. This Hillsboro team could really make some noise this yr in mboro. Unlike the Mooney teams, they have balance as already stated. Crouch and Pacey go to the bucket hard. I'm curious to know how Hillsboro has done against teams that played zone defense against them.
  4. Metro schools will continue to falter. Socioeconomic status isn't all of the problems. The comprehensive schools is the problem. The big High Schools have killed sports. There would be so much Pride in A Donelson HS, Dupont/Old Hickory HS, Madison HS, Pearl HS, and Cameron and so on. For anybody questioning socioeconomic status look at how much pride is still shown by Cameron and Pearl Alumni. Cameron has a website, with tons of information on class reunions, championship teams, etc and has been closed for over 20 yrs. Currently kids in JC Napier housing projects aren't even zoned to cameron ms(they can walk across the street to cameron), they are zoned to donelson ms(who coincidently went 5-1 in middle school football and cameron is horrible), then the kids go to McGavock. Terrible zoning in Metro.......................Mose Phillips has to drive an activity bus to get his kids to and from practice at Hillwood. So guess what none of those parents probably come to any games or are involved with the school in any capacity. I could go on and on. Metro needs to admit the zoning is flawed. Smaller HS's are needed. The mcgavock cluster should be broken down with another HS. Just my thoughts............
  5. Lavergne is REALLY GOOD. McGavock and Gallatin are mediocre at best. Give Lavergne some credit. Quite frankly Hunters Lane is better than Hillwood. Hillwood is better than last yr though. I think Mose is doing good things there.
  6. Be patient, their team is made up of FR and Soph. The majority of this yr's varsity is FR and Soph. Yes last yrs FR team won the city, beating maplewood. SO Maplewood has had some outstanding FR teams as well and as Bigchief said their JR class won the city as FR. The Creek also lost one of their best FR to injury. Tavarus Cowan broke his leg the first week of school. Their FR team would have been even better. Watch out for next yr, when this crew grows up. Their feeder schools will be sending them some good players too next yr. One glaring problem is they have not developed a QB since Torian Hall left. Until that happens they will only be decent. Enjoy this yr region 5-4a, because the losing will be short lived..............
  7. Stratford will win. Stratford at least has two game breakers in Shelton and Bohannon. 18-6 Stratford.
  8. The play in Question involved Tight end Marcus Bowen who is No. 9 the TE. http://www.wdef.com/video/friday_september...ootball/09/2007 You can see the play at the link above. You must let the streaming video play, there is a football game before the Maplewood - Ooltewah.(Tyner vs. S. Pittsburg) It looks like the correct call. Bowen appears to lose control at the one, as #43 racks him across the arm. But the previous clip is not the right clip. YOu can activate the controls, i.e. the pause button to freeze the frame by moving the mouse on the bottom of the video.
  9. This isn't even worth being a thread......................no suspense. Hillsboro already blasted Stratford 58-6....Maplewood 27-14....Hillsboro will probably play their 9th grade QB this game. Probably could win with their 9th grade team.
  10. Hillsboro's line took care of business Friday. I still do not think there line is better than the previous Hillsboro teams. The line isn't horrible, matter of fact the line is good, just not as good as previous. Maplewoods D-line, I over-estimated them and gave them way to much credit. Hillsboro's superior strength and conditioning played a factor too. Hillsboro's small D-line is the reason why MBA ran it down their throat.
  11. Apparently Gordon can do it by himself. Congrats to Hillsboro. They are the best team in Metro(public schools) all classifications. Maplewoods conditioning was not good. That is why they lost the game in the second half. They had nothing left in the tank. Also No. 4 played his heart out for Maplewood, but having him play defense all game and run to the sideline for every play on offense wore him out.
  12. Maplewood wins this one. 20-13. The difference in this game will be Maplewood's D-Line. Maplewood has the best D-Line in 4a. They can pressure Arent with 4 linemen. Arent is easily rattled when hit. He will be hit vs. Maplewood. Hillsboro's O-Line isn't as good as last yr's. That center they had the last 4 yrs just manhandled opposing defenses, he was also a stud defensive lineman too. Hillsboro's offensive and defensive lines aren't as good as last yr. MBA showed you can run down Hillsboro's throat. Chris Simpson and Cantrell will both have 100 yds rushing. Seward is a not an eat the clock type back. He is good on screens and sweeps, not between the tackles. Maplewood hits as hard as any HS team i've seen this yr. I like Gordon for Hillsboro, he is the best player in this game, but he can't do it by himself. Again Maplewood wins.
  13. man u are delusional. Despite your facts, the black community feels there is a double standard. White kid leaves ensworth and he is immediately eligible. black kid leaves ensworth and he has to sit out a yr. Financial Aid offered to students yes thats true. But how is it that, eighth grade metro athletes continue to be diverted to Ensworth. Tavares Jefferson has an older brother, he didn't go to ensworth. Oh yeah he doesn't play sports. Wouldn't he qualify just like Tavares?? Quinn Hamilton just so happened to lead Jere Baxter as a 7th grader and Haynes as an eighth grader to the Metro bball tournament. Wonder if Ensworth knew him as a sixth grader. Oh yeah he was attracted to Ensworth, not ensworth being attracted to him. Your post shows you don't share the views of the inner city. Hillsboro, it doesn't hurt that they have an MTA stop right in front of the school. Thanks for dissing all inner city schools with your rhetoric. We will survive without you. TSSAA should make all public school transfers to private schools after the students 8th grade yr sit out a yr.
  14. Maplewood 12 HL 0 Maplewood's Defense is even better this yr.
  15. Hillwood looked totally different. Phillips is a good fit for them. Don't look into the score completely, they played a very good Maplewood team. Hillwood ripped off a very long TD run against Maplewood's 1st team D. Maplewood's, Chris Simpson is going to have a big yr. he is very elusive. Cantrell did not play for Maplewood. Charles Watson did not play for Hillwood, he didn't dress. Antioch scored easily against WC, probably could've scored more. WC had several turnovers. Antioch has tall receivers who can catch, They lined McAdoo in the slot a lot. QB has to be consistent in getting them the ball. Running game needs some fine tuning.
  16. Was 21 playing linebacker? He is new to the program. I think that is who you are referring to. I don't know his name but he could be a big time talent if they continue to work with him.
  17. And speaking of Hopson, Seth Davis loves him! Here are two articles he has written on Hopson. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...thoughts/1.html Two guys I had seen before who made good impressions: Demarcus Cousins, a 6-9 forward from Birmingham, and Scotty Hopson, a 6-5 wing from Hopkinsville, Ky., who has committed to Mississippi State. Cousins is really big, but he looked in much better control of his body than when I saw him two weeks ago at USA Basketball's Youth Development Festival. Hopson was one of the best players at the festival, and he again looked terrific in Akron. Besides being a great leaper with a nice shooting touch, Hopson really appears to enjoy playing defense, and I swear I have never seen him play a bad game. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ....preview/2.html Scotty Hopson, 6-6, F, Hopkinsville, Ky. Summer team: Mid-State Ballers (no sponsor) Schedule: LeBron Academy, AAU 19-and-unders Skinny: Hopson may have been the player who raised his stock the most at the USA Basketball Festival. He's a dynamic swingman who jumps out of the gym and has both long-range and mid-range touch. (That mid-range game is a dying art, but Hopson is an artist at it.) Hopson has committed to Mississippi State, and I'm guessing that by the end of the summer he will have positioned himself to be a McDonald's All-American. He's that good.
  18. Graham probably was he did attend Brick Church MS a HL feeder, and that is why I don't complain about WC losing kids. We have benefitted from open enrollment and lost from it. Gershom Jordan and Dominique Rouse were both at PJPII before transferring to WC(they did sit out a yr). They were both zoned for WC though. I think Ensworth got the guard from Haynes who is good in bball and football. Not sure about the big kid. To clarify, Hillsboro is taking better advantage of open enrollment. So my point is metro schools shouldn't complain about Ensworth. Metro schools are doing the same to one another.............. The kid transferring to Hillsboro(from Ensworth) will have to sit out a yr. And this spring he was playing Defensive End. Also the other kid at Maplewood the junior is questionable every yr because of grades and discipline. He is good though. But if he plays this fall that D-line will be the best in the city and one of the best in the state, that line will give Hillsboro problems because Arant won't have all day to throw the ball or see passing lanes. I don't see how Arant was eligible immediately, that isn't consistant with the transfer rules......
  19. The new recruiting guru is Blades from Hillsboro..............Ensworth will get a few, but they will lose a few. Kids must understand if they attend Ensworth and don't maintain a certain gpa, they will be out of there headed back to metro and lose a yr of eligibility. Meanwhile Hillsboro has found a way to get some of JFK's finest athletes the last two yrs. They also got Wright Middle Schools best athlete from last yr. That spread offense will be one fine oiled machine for years to come. I used to be big about privates getting the kids from Metro, but now there is a LOT of strange things happening within METRO. Kids are not ending up at their feeder High Schools. Then there are those that don't go to the private schools or some cross town school. Maplewood has a rising sophomore Defensive Lineman (24 ACT score) who will be on every D1 school's radar. Its amazing he didn't end up at a private school.
  20. Its good to see Keith doing well this summer. He'll be counted on heavily at the creek this yr. I remember watching him in middle school. Brandon email me when u can, I want to check you guys out this summer. -Jab jabmartin@hotmail.com
  21. Both of you couldn't have said it better......................... Why?????????????????? Mind Boggling to say the least....................
  22. Lol, Life will go on. Congratulations Maryville. You did what it took to win it all. Yes I am getting the crow feathers out of my teeth. Thanks for your concern Rebel fans. cobrafan90
  23. Kind words OaklandGrad. Hey whoever wins is who we'll play. Of course Whites Creek has there on business to take care of. I just enjoy hearing Terance Jay hate on Whites Creek. SO every chance I get I hate back. You are right it doesn't matter who we play. WHen there are 4 teams left they are ALL good, despite my trash talking. A choice between a team with two losses or three losses. Both are good. We'll have to bring our A game either way.
  24. After further review. Craigmont was decent. The post about their patience summed it up. They weren't very patient on offense or defense. The press had very little effect on Whites Creek.
