  1. TSSAA takes money from schools fined and awards it to schools that have not been fined through the A.F. Bridges Sportsmanship award... It's a way of taking from those that do wrong and give back to those that do it right.
  2. What all-star nominees were you talking about? the McDonald's All-Am nominees are just for seniors I believe... Jenkins is a junior.
  3. Again, if the school had proof in a video tape, it could have appealed to the TSSAA. He wouldn't have wrestled during the weekend likely, but if cleared could wrestle this weekend.
  4. The kid did get bit. I spoke with the trainer that saw the teeth marks. A person in the stands said they saw it happen. Not saying it wasn't accidental, but it did happen. School can appeal it I believe and if they have evidence that indicates no one was bitten, they should be able to get it overturned. Of course they should have done this early in the week and not as the region tourney seeding is taking place since the kid won't be able to participate.
  5. They are putting it off again until Friday a.m.
  6. Greenbrier will win. Their defense is playing pretty good right now... and I think their coaches will have them ready and not looking past a team they already defeated once this season. Greenbrier 28 Sycamore 17
  7. What happened to Springfield? Well, they graduated a strong class last year including the bulk of their line, a good linebacker, speedy defensive backfield and a tough running back. Two of their best defensive players -- including last year's region defensive player of the year -- never made the team for either grades or disciplinary actions. They lose perhaps their best athlete on the team to a broken ankle. I think at one point they had a lineman at QB to finish a game. They have some good athletes that have taken a while to realize the team concept and stink it up for the team when they get nicked up. They change their offense from wing-T to I-formation. They lose several assistants and aren't able to fill the staff till later than one would have liked. Offutt is a good coach. He's an even better person. Remember, Springfield was on probation this year due to the incident with Maplewood. He had to lay the foundation of a disciplinarian that wasn't going to take anything from any player. Give him some time. I hear his JV team had a pretty good year. Maybe things will get better. GOOD LUCK COACH OFFUTT
  8. Didn't Cheatham make the playoffs last year? And isn't the reason why they went down is because since Sycamore has opened their student population has decreased... which would allow the team to drop down? Schools just don't drop down because they can't win. If they don't have the kids, they should be allowed to drop down.
  9. where is this local at? Jo Byrns is in with CPA, DCA, FRA, Ezell-Harding and any other alphabet school you can think of... where would they and McEwen be?
  10. Who is the favorite if Wolke can't play? I hear his got a bum foot and won't likely play this weekend.
  11. Don't know why Smyrna can be a team to look for in 4A, since they are in 5A.
  12. Antioch looked very strong in the work day. They've got a huge fullback, speed at wr, good RB and a QB with a good arm. Blackman's still working on some things... but numbers are down. Springfield's No. 8 Hudson didn't play. Their QB looked good at times. Still looking for that o-line to gel, but I'm sure they'll find a way. Offutt is doing a fine job this year I think. He's taking care of some business getting team ready for a tough season. Statman, e-mail me when you get a chance.

    BLACKMAN

Where and when is tomorrow's Springfield/Blackman scrimmage?
  14. I don't know if there are any more of a deserving bunch of girls and coaching staff than this group of girls, Coach Head and the rest of the gang in the dugout. A lot of people didn't give them a lot of credit, but they took care of business and are bringing home the hardware. Good work girls....
  15. Rhodes had 12-13 strike outs... this game was in 9 innings. the Lady Cats did a great job getting the bat on the ball against probably the best high school softball pitcher in the south. Of course these two teams have played so many time this season they know each other inside and out. Lipscomb now has to play in the loser's bracket finale to set up a district 8-aa finale!!! Good win girls... Your making all of Greenbrier and everyone else that's followed this team proud. Now let's bring it on home.
  16. So are they playing Saturday??? if so, when?

    8AA????

What's going on with the tournament schedule because of all of the rain... Wouldn't mind heading up to see Greenbrier play if it has to play over the weekend. Thanks
  18. CONGRATULATIONS GREENBRIER on an excellent District 8-AA season. Good luck in the district and don't lose focus because the fun has just begun. Coach Head and her staff have done an excellent job with this team. Keep up the good work and maybe our paths will cross in the postseason.

  20. who won in the championship game between dickson and lipscomb?
  21. Please update this as much as possible Saturday. Thanks
  22. Springfield 5, Portland 4 in nine innings. Portland scores a run in the top of the ninth. Springfield's bottom of the lineup then came through. Yellow Jackets' 5-6-7 batters reach safely -- the final on a pop fly to pitcher, who drops it... Drew Wilson then ended the game with a two-run single. Very good game on both sides. Craig Harris picked up the win in relief. Leo Koski pitched the first 4-5 innings. Daniel Smith went the distance for Portland and had a very good outing... i think he had 12 Ks. Congrats Bobcats on a good win.
  23. Of course Springfield didn't really have any of their pitchers available and had to use their catcher... but Macon's pitcher shut Springfield down... Score didn't indicate how close it was. 2-0 going into top of sixth when Yellow Jackets juggling lineup caught up... playing a second baseman at short, a pitcher in center and a center fielder at catcher will eventually catch up with you... and that's what happened in the sixth.
  24. uhhh... beating C.A. isn't a big accomplishment. East Robertson beat them like 15-3 earlier this year. Jo Byrns beat them 20-0... don't be gettin' the big head just yet.
