  1. What does it matter if either school has 700 or 1200 students? Last time I checked, 5 girls are on the floor, the rim is 10 ft high with a 28.5 ball(I think) Bradley County has three high schools to choose from. Two of those sent girls' teams to the state-so I doubt that enrollment size has anything to do with this. How about give some credit to the players on the floor, the coaches on the sidelines and the school for supporting them. Bradley High School has a rich tradition of girl's basketball and for these girls to have chosen WV as 9th graders says alot about their determination and drive. Congratulations to their accomplishments so far and I think we'll be saying it again tonight.
  2. Drove up to watch both of our Bradley County teams play. Was very impressed with how the Lady Mustangs let the game come to them. Especially proud of the job Isom and Walker did off the bench. Alyson shot the ball extremely well (31), great senior leadership from Osha, Mindy, Suzanne and great defense from Ashton. Ashley gave us great minutes, too. Coach Tucker made the smart adjustment from the up and down the court tempo in the first half to controlling the tempo the second half. What can you say when you pull it out with six minutes to go? The little 3-point shooter (Witherspoon?) from Westview kept them in the game. Lady Raiders faired a bit different. Thought it was clear who was intended to win that game from the start. Tough break for a great group of girls. Looking forward to tomorrow night's game.
  3. right here, been busy packing!
  4. right here! ever heard the phrase "waking a sleeping giant?"
  5. the controversy with the umpire and the pitcher was in the 6th inning during warm-ups. the umpire stood not two feet from the catcher and when the wv pitcher put one in the dirt throwing over the outside corner- the ump walked out on the mound and accused the pitcher of throwing at him. wv coach did what he should have- defended his player- yes he had to be restrained, but I believe there isn't another coach that would not have done the same- already had been some discussion about inconsistency of the strike zone. Correct me if I am wrong, but you don't just get "tossed" You have to say or do certain things and obviously Coach Turner did not do or say anything that would warrrant getting thrown out or he would have been. Also, not real sure about the umpire's thoughts on accusing the player considering his close proximity and being behind the plate for five innings knowing where the pitcher tends to throw. Just didn't make a lot of sense to me. That whole incident, however, did not have any effect on the outcome of the game. WV lives to play another day and it will be interesting to see how they deal with their first loss in the state. I pretty much think I know how they'll respond.
  6. sandlot is not Walker Valley- quit trying to give us a bad rep
  7. Hixson is a great team and came to play- excellent pitching by Smalley and supported by sound defense, but came up a little short. Another complete game shut-out by Pat Dye and the Walker Valley defense. Timely strike outs when Hixson threatened. Nice crowd despite the rain. We're proud of you Mustangs and can't wait to see what you have in store for us next. Just continue to do your talking on the field one game at a time.
  8. First of all, kudos to Hixson, from what I understand, you put on a great district tourney and showed excellent sportsmanship. Looking forward to you all coming to our place for what I believe will be a super game. Because I am partial to WV, I'll say we may come out on top, but we know at this time of year, everybody comes ready to play. Good luck to all.
  9. This is like beating a dead horse!
  10. I agree with you, bigbadred, that we are all the same and no one individual is worth more than the other, THAT is exactly what we Walker Valley fans have been striving for all along- for our students and athletes to be treated as equals. It isn't that we believe they are better, they just havn't gotten respect and credit for being even average. (see any and all posts regarding basketball) Maybe we do have a chip on our shoulder, but not for what you mistake as being egotistical and arrogant. All you have to do is look at why this thread was begun in the first place-to poor mouth the Walker Valley program. Badhop and the majority of the WV faithful tire of all the negativity thrown our way. It was even done in the media by a fan of another local high school who thought Walker Valley got too much coverage in baseball. I cannot speak for every player, coach, parent, teacher, or student who is involved with Walker Valley, but speaking as one who believes in providing all the children of Bradley County with the best possible education and opportunities available, I am proud of the accomplishments that ANY student achieves- regardless of their school colors and will continue to celebrate the Walker Valley baseball team, not just for the wins on the field, but also for the young men they are off it.
  11. Here's a suggestion- don't play the teams in your district, yeah that's right- just go out and schedule non-district, non-region teams and at the end of the regular season just ask if you can play in the tournament. Boys, if I were you, I'd worry about my OWN team. Your envy is getting rather ridiculous. Everyone that reads Coacht knows neither of you likes Walker Valley so you have made your point and you can get on with your own season. I bet you both know how to pull up Walker's schedule in the win/loss rankings and compare it to your own. I know for you Bear 22 it will look familiar. Hey, if WV gets beat then you guys can talk all you want, but until then...
  12. Find it interesting that NOTHING but the box score was reported in the CTFP

    District 5AA

my bad wildcatfever, didn't mean to get the name wrong. sweetwater and central went into extra innings and according to the radio broadcast, both teams had opportunities to win before Central pulled it out. It sure is nice to have your local media support- too bad WV can't get that kind of coverage. now Meigs and Central will fight it out for the finals. good luck to both and we will see you Wednesday.

    District 5AA

Walker Valley advances to championship game Wednesday at 5:30 against yet undecided opponent. WV shuts out Meigs in five behind strong pitching from Dye and Sorah. Mustangs put 4 on the board in both the first and second, one in the third and then Tyler Stafford hits a walk-off grand slam to end it in the fifth. Meigs threw Million and Visage. The winner of the Central/Sweetwater game will play Meigs for a chance at the championship. Central/Sweetwater are tied 8 all in the 7th.
  15. five innings- WV 5 in the bottom of the 4th and 5 in the bottom of the 5th. The first hit came in the bottom of the 3rd by Walker Valley. Maybe you missed an inning. 10-run rule usually reflects that one team was pretty dominate over the other especially when the team that loses gives up that many runs committing only 1 error. But I am glad that you have confidence in your team and hope we can play again in the championship -if WE get there.
