  1. Bethard was a stud last night in the first half. He took some huge hits in the second half but kept getting up. I enjoyed watching him. BGA's running back was pretty quick as well. I can see why they were 4-1 coming into that game. In the end though BA just had too many horses for BGA and ended up winning going away late in the game. The muffed punt was the turning point of the game in my opinion.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear from MsPowerhouse again. Physically speaking that OB team was as impressive a team physically I have seen perhaps since Robert E. Lee back in '94. They had size and speed all over the field but once they got down big it didn't appear as if LSU commit #14 had much interest in the game. This was as good as I have seen BA play in several years.
  3. Hats off to Kingsbury for continuing to battle in the second half. If it weren't for the continuous clock in the third quarter (another byproduct of the everyone gets a trophy crowd) the last five minutes could have been even more interesting. I don't have any problem with pulling the starters and letting the young guys get experience, it's a very smart move for the future of the program. It's the second half lack of intensity and appearance of "I'd rather be at Chili's" from the coach that I have a problem with.
  4. As was mentioned earlier BA played second and third team in the second half. I was on the sidelines and in the second half I was shocked at the lack of emotion by BA coaches and players. They just came out flat and looked like the game was already over. Attention to detail was gone. It was very disappointing. I'm not sure how many onside kicks were recovered before Potter got a clue and put a hands team in there at the end of the game. You never like to hear the words with two minutes left in the game, "one's stretch... you're going back in if they score" which they did.
  5. Tennessee is such a small state population wise I wish it would go back to the old A AA AAA days. At least that way winning a state championship would actually mean something. I have to admit I think it takes some of the luster off a BA title when the entire classification only had 10 teams. Heck, there used to be regions that large or larger. And while we are at it how about only letting the top two teams from each region make the playoffs like the old days, I am sick and tired of seing a 2-8 team make the playoffs each year. How about we quit keeping score and give everybody trophies while were at it.
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Eric Westmoreland on that team that beat BA in the 92 Clinic Bowl? That was a very good Marion County team.
  7. As was mentioned already the Supreme Court's decision did not say BA was guilty of recruiting, it just said the TSSAA did not violate BA's right to free speech. It is mentioned in numerous places that the TSSAA has since banned the practice of incoming 8th graders practicing with the high school team. That being said if it was legal to do so before, then why was BA punished for that? The TSSAA has always been and will always be a joke. Sorry to get so far off the original topic. It is just that when people take things which are false and represent them as the truth about my school I get offended.
  8. Looks like we both have our topics that throw us into a frenzy. Glad to see someone outside of the BA family admit that the "R word" is just that, an excuse.
  9. 7-Say BA doesn't illegally recruit. Who cares if you do? I'm like Dale Murphy when he said his mind was made up about Barry Bonds. He had enough evidence to believe that Barry used performance enhancing drugs. My mind is made up. I have enough evidence to make that decision. I don't have to have the same standard as a court of law. BA recruits. Anyone that denies that is either to naive to know or just plane won't admit it. Care to share that evidence with us Charger? It has already been established that you know nothing about BA other than what other "experts" talk about around the water cooler. We are waiting to hear something concrete other than my friend was recruited.
  10. Charger, I graduated in the mid 90's and my class had 67. The class before ours was somewhere in the 50's. It truly is a small community.
  11. If I had a dollar for every time I heard somebody say they had a buddy, a friend of a cousin, a neighbors dogsitter, etc. say they were recruited to play for BA then I would be a rich man. If you are going to slander us for something of which you have absolutley no proof, at least come up with something original. Personally I think you guys have a great football program surrounded by lots of town pride. That's a pretty cool thing. However I also agree that you probably don't play the toughest of schedules in the state. Who knows what would happen if Maryville and BA were to play, it would be a fun one to watch though.
  12. OK so I was enjoying the back and forth until I got to this post. We BA alumni and fans are pretty used to hearing the same thing year in and year out. My question to you would be what do you know about Brentwood Academy? I challenge you to tell me something, anything about the school other than your silly rants about recruiting. As to your second comment, I was there in the mid 90's during the 4A and 5A days and we did platoon, more than most schools we played. I wasn't there in the AA days but I find it hard to believe they didn't platoon back then either. Next time be sure to back your rants up with actual facts not biased anti BA rants.
  13. Should be MBA by a large margin.
  14. I guess that is why they play the game. I have no idea what to expect but it should be fun. Just remember win lose or draw, try and show some class. Enjoy your trip to Middle Tennessee. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  15. Just because a team is tested doesn't mean they should not be included in this thread. BA's 95 and 96 teams were 30-0, and Clarksville NE had a couple of fantastic running backs in Travis Stephens and Tim Terry. Stephens was quite possibly the best High School player Tennessee has produced. I know there are many who have gone on and done much better in the NFL but I have never seen a player dominate as much as Stephens did in High School, especially his Junior year. If I am not mistaken both of those years when MBA played BA they were undefeated with some pretty good athletes as well (ex. Will Bartholomew, and the kicker who went on to Vandy as well as many others) I can say the BA teams of 95 and 96 were much better than the teams of 93 and 94 who only lost close games to Cleveland with the Cobb twins, Haywood Co. with Corey Moore, and Robert E. Lee out of Montgomery AL with Fred Weary. So who is to say who the best teams in Tennessee history are but as for me it is the BA teams of 95 and 96.
  16. Who's to say which team is the best in the history of Kentucky football. However when I was a freshman and sophmore in HS we beat Tillman twice. They were a good team but BA's teams my freshman and sophmore years were nothing like the teams of my junior and senior years. My sophmore year we lost to a pretty good Robert E. Lee team out of Montgomery Alabama. Year in and year out the state of Tennessee doesn't produce near as many top athletes as other states, but I think our teams are just as good or better than those in most states. Obviously California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Ohio and even Penn are at the top of any list for athletes and teams.
  17. Yes, WesVols, Ryan Huskey was involved in the play. A pass was thrown to him at the end of time in the first half, however he was knocked to the ground before the ball got to him. It was really almost a jump ball. When the yellow hankie came flying it gave us the untimed play where Lance threw to Bo for the TD. And yes the Vols victory over Florida was quite a time. I did storm the field, and quickly wished I hadn't. Oh well it was fun.
  18. Lance Phillip's TD pass to Bo Clift with no time left in first half to put BA ahead of Clarksville NE 7-3 in the 1995 5A quarterfinals.
  19. Lets get back to the good ole days. A, AA, AAA
  20. Well going back about ten years, BA vs. Lipscomb and Goodpasture was the big rivalry. That was when the state was only divided into A, AA, and AAA. To make things even more heated only two teams made it to the playoffs from each region. Since BA never lost a regional game until the public private split, that left Lipscomb and Goodpasture to duke it out for the final playoff spot. There was never much love loss between the three schools.
  21. My vote goes to Brentwood Academy 1995. Austin Kemp, Tito Lee, Jaman Bass, Mikki Allen, Kurstin Biggers, and others. Most swarming high school defense I have ever seen. The 96 defense wasn't bad either. Maybe a step behind the 95 team though.
  22. Well being a BA alum my vote obiously goes to Carlton Flatt. His record speaks for itself. However I do think being a great coach entails more than just football. It is about life, and from what I have heard from good friends of mine who played football, he was a great teacher and man of God. The world could use more men like him. I also think others who fall into that category would be Coach David Pack at CPA and Coach Rutledge at MBA.

    WesVols

Wes, all I can say is congratulations. You are a true model of what Brentwood Academy is all about. You have made this class of '97 alum proud. By the way don't you and my brother get too carried away up in Knoxvegas. I look forward to seeing you big time college guys in the fall for some football.
  24. Did all of you BA boys just learn something new in computer class? BA 20 MBA 13
