80+ pounds gained from season to season.
SpaceCowboy replied to FootballMania's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I had a similar but smaller gain between my junior and senior seasons. 5'7" - 185 lbs. to 5'10" - 235 lbs. To go with the height increase my legs got huge (600 lb squat as a Senior) and my shoulders widened considerably. Unforunately, I didn't get any faster. -
Mavsfan, Where did you play college football at?

Is Aaron Kirby still on the staff?

Who will be Lenoir City's new coach
SpaceCowboy replied to flyingblind's topic in Class 1A & Class 2A
If they have any sense, they will go after Jeff Miner, Oak Ridge. -
Has anyone at Wartburg contacted Jeff Miner from Oak Ridge? He is a hot commodity in coaching circles these days. With the financial package you all are talking about putting together, maybe you could land him.

What's Goin' On With Oak Ridge Football Off Season

This is a good move for Layton. Father Ryan is getting a good football coach and an even better man. Good luck to Chris. Who will replace Layton as o line coach? -
Stanton Stevens resigns to coach track at ORHS?
SpaceCowboy replied to Ole Dad's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
WOW! That just happened! -
Sir Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation, Karns would be foolish not to hire you. It is obvious from your posts that you are a man of great intelligence. I'm sure with you at the helm the Beavers would win a state title in short order. There is no doubt that your offence and defence would revolutionize the sport. I'm in full agreement. They need to go ahead and hire you, so you could bring in your assistance. Good luck, Sir.

If Karns wants Miner they better hurry

Jeff Miner has the greatest PR machine in the history of the world. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he has thrown his hat in the ring for 2008. -
Stanton Stevens resigns to coach track at ORHS?
SpaceCowboy replied to Ole Dad's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
You don't have to have a "warm fuzzy" feeling about last season. Nobody should feel good about 5-5. I'm just saying its a bit irresponsible and childish to continually get on here and create rumors that Ole Dad and everyone else knows are false. We understand that you don't like Stevens or the way he runs the program. Ole Dad and others have established that point. In other matters, what assistants are leaving and where are they going? -
I wouldn't put anything past Karns.

Ole Dad, you are really grasping at straws this round. But, I do appreciate your gusto. When you go after a man you don't let it go. Keep on fighting the good fight Ole Dad. Maybe one day Stevens will no longer be the coach of your beloved Wildcats. Then what would you do with all your spare time? Oh, I know. You can conjure nonsense out of thin air about the new coach. -
So, you interviewed twice with both the committee and the principal? If so, are you the fourth "finalist"?
-
Word is a fourth "finalist" candidate was called in to interview. It is rumored that this candidate is from Anderson County.
-
Don't expect Karns to move to quickly on this. Also, don't expect them to make the best decision. There are rumors swirling around about some last minute developments with this hire.

West rolls in this one, as Aaron Kirby and his hard hitting defense post a shutout in the rain. West 35 -Clinton 0.

some of the best junior linebackers in EAST TN
SpaceCowboy replied to chrislane23's topic in Football
PJ Moore and Arsenio Moulden from Austin-East High School. They play Tonto to McAlister's Lone Ranger, but both are very dangerous in their own right. -
The key to this game is West's defense. West can and will score. If they control the ball, it comes down to the Rebel defense. Central has big play capability at QB, RB, and WR. The Rebels must not give up the big play. Make Central drive and be consistent offensively. I know, easier said than done. West will have a scheme in place that may surprise and slow down the Central O. With a couple of turnovers, West could pull the upset. In closing, special teams also plays a huge role in games like this. I can't give the edge to either team in that area. This one is a toss up.
-
West has a strong running game and some athletes on defense. If all indications are true Heritage should be much improved. I give the edge to West and the athletes on defense, 21-14.
-
Knoxville West could be the sleeper in that region. They have some good athletes. They will be young in spots, but should fare well. They have also added a new defensive coordinator with a wide open attacking scheme which will utilize those young athletes.

From what I hear Stockdale is very happy at AE. Don't expect him to leave any time soon.

Where is Stockdale from AE going?

Coaches must be thick skinned. If you are not, you'll never last in this business. Fans and the media can and will say anything about a coach, especially if the team is losing or they personally don't like him. It is the coaches job to remain professional, respectful and avoid altercations if possible. Sometimes it is not possible. When these situations arise the coach should have enough self control to end the altercation quickly, and suggest meeting at a later time if it is warranted. Rambling or intoxicated fans should never have this opportunity. The only people that should get the chance to talk to a coach privately are parents, administrators, etc. Remember, coaches are role models and are always being watched. Handle yourself with pride and dignity. Attacks on family are a different matter. If a fan crosses that line, they have made a big mistake. First off, anyone who would say anything to a coach's wife or children is a gutless coward. I have never been in that situation, and hope that I never am. I'm not sure what my reaction might be, but it would be very difficult to maintain professionalism and control if that occurred. Criticism is a natural part of coaching and athletics, deal with it. However, attacks on someone's family is unacceptable and just plain sorry.

His stats don't blow you away, but for field leadership and steady play, I would say Trevail Minnifield of Austin-East. He has alot of weapons around him and knows how to get them the ball. With Harris doing his thing, Trevail has had time to mature. He does exactly what is asked of him, to run the offense. He makes sure alignments are correct and that his players know their jobs. He is also beginning to become a passer, especially with the play action passes. He can also hurt you with his feet. He's not the most spectacular or flashy QB, just steady and a winner.
