  1. Then why the hesitation to include us in your rankings? Nothing to fear, eh? PS - the "shot" comeback was good!
  2. Oh yeah, we outnumber you and will beat you up. Maybe you could secede and join up with Blytheville, Jonesboro, the boot heel, and Mayfield can be your capital. What can we call you?
  3. I'd put Chester Co. in Kirby's spot. Brighton's schedule has been weak though they did only lose to Bolton by a point. Obion deserves to be in there as does ECS in my opinion. I say 1. Craigmont 2. Jackson Northside 3. Gibson Co. 4. East 5. Melrose 6. Ridgeway 7. Westview 8. Bolton 9. Houston 10. Chester Co. [Edited by brownhut on 2-12-03 2:45P]
  4. Just because some people in the rural areas of West Tennessee don't think Shelby county is a part of it doesn't change the fact that Shelby county, yes, is a county in West Tennessee. You can deny any fact you wish, but if a ranking wants to title itself "West Tennessee," then those of us who live here have a right to include our kids and schools. I just don't see the rationale in leaving Shelby county out.
  5. Hutchison vs. ECS last night (I wasn't there unfortunately) 1Q H 7 - ECS 6 2Q ECS 15 - H 13 3Q ECS 27 - H 22 4Q ECS 36 - H 27 Briarcrest vs. St. Benedict 1Q SB 8 - BC 7 2Q BC 19 - SB 13 3Q BC 25 - SB 17 4Q BC 35 - SB 23 Are the gaps closing????? Great 4th quarter Harding in putting away St. Agnes SBEC without Gresh Gorman beat Bishop Byrne .
  6. Leaving out the Shelby county teams is logical if you want to give credit to teams who would otherwise not be in any top ten rankings, just don't call it a "West Tennessee" ranking. I've never seen Middle TN rankings without Davidson county teams or an East TN poll without Knox county, but, hey, it's a free country. If you want a watered down top ten, but not REALLY a top ten, that's your perogative.
  7. FRHS "no comment" WHAT "NO COMMENT"!! Are you losing your edge? What's going on? Yeah, the top four are easy. In the West, the difference between Hutchison, SBEC, Bishop Byrne, Harding, St. Benedict, and St. Agnes is negligible. Hutchison has been a little, and I mean little, more consistent. SBEC and Bishop Byrne's records are better from playing in the weaker D2 West small division, but head to heads can be viewed from early in the season. IMHO - Brentwood Academy coming to town in Dec. and getting beat by both Harding and Hutchison showed that the second tier of teams in the West is better than those in the Middle. I need help with Webb. I see no reason to put them near the top four. Hutchison beat them by 10 in sectionals last year (I know, last year, but it's the last comparison game that I see) and Hutch has basically the same team. Please someone convince me why they're good.
  8. Briarcrest 30 - USN 18 Hutchison just doesn't have the need to have huge bleachers even though, as you said, the gym is magnificent. The gym holds a surprising number of people if you count the bleachers at the ends which are usually not pulled out. I believe the first day of girls' D2 West games will be played there with the following rounds at MUS. I think there will be six games that day. Maybe with all the teams there we can fill the place up.
  9. I know Binswanger was approached, but she had no desire to go there. She chose between SMU and Richmond, both tourny teams this year.
  10. I would have to say Craigmont at this point.
  11. No, I'm not the woman who made you move! Where were you that you had to move? The only place I can think of would be on top of the bleachers that aren't pulled out. Am I right? Thanks for the stats Lionstats. Even though I'm a Hutch fan, I try to be objective when posting. You do a good job of it! FRHS - I'll ask Robin when I see her. I guess not everyone can be an athlete. Univ. School of N'ville held Jada Mincy to 6 yesterday. I haven't heard anything about them this year.
  12. Harding and Hutchison played a tense defensive struggle with Hutchison coming out on top 42-31. The lead was between 5 and 8 for most of the 2nd - 4th quarters for the Sting. Harding hit crucial threes whenever it looked as if Hutch was going to put them away. Unfortunately for Harding, they couldn't get any production in the paint. The final margin reached 11 because of Harding resorting to fouls late in the game. I believe Rachel black had 14 or 15 to lead the Lions while Sara Hester led Hutchison with 17. The game was NOT officiated well. Hutchison point guard Paige Patrick fouled out early in the fourth because of imaginary calls away from the ball, while Harding got called for a couple of travels that were non-existent. Well played game by both teams. Good sportmanship throughout.
  13. Ther were a few in the current ninth grade who came in 8th grade, I think a couple play volleyball. Wellford came in sixth grade but i didn't know it was from St. Mary's. She's an awesome athlete. She was 2nd in the state last year in the 300 M Hurdles as an eighth grader. She scored 26 goals this year, but a LOT of attention was drawn away from her because of Brooke Binswanger. It will be interesting to see how she adjusts to being THE scorer.
  14. Can any area of the state compete with the number of Div. 1 commitments from this Shelby county group? 4 to Ole Miss 2 to memphis 2 to Miss St. 1 to UAB 1 to Richmond http://www.gomemphis.com/mca/other_sports/...1724881,00.html
  15. Are you talking about current eighth or ninth graders transferring to Hutch from St. Mary's? The curret Hutchison ninth grade group was amazing this year with the only freshman all-state selection, Abby Zanone, coming from a group that includes Liza Wellford, Elizabeth Krausnick, Joy Thompson, and Sophie Jones playing on varsity. All have been at Hutch since pre K except for Wellford, who came in the sixth grade. What girls from St. mary's are you talking about??
  16. Correction: Hutchison has a very LARGE gym with few fans.
  17. I, for one, couldn't care less who wins Miss Basketball, but I must admit that through reading the posts, I look forward to seeing the FRHS and HH players in action. For those who don't get credit: Of the 14 teams in D2 West, I always enjoy watching the 2 Jr. guards from SBEC, Brittany Barbie and Gresh Gorman. Either would start for any team I've seen in D2. I hate those who live in Middle and East probably won't get to see them. Whitney Williams of Harding has great potential. Sara Hester of Hutchison has the most perfect and beautiful shot of all the post players. Who am I missing?
  18. Craigmont held Melrose superstar Ashley Shields to 20 points in route to a 70 - 38 thrashing at Melrose. Craigmont was led by Whitney Price - 16; Phyllisha Mitchell - 14; and Alyson Brooks - 10.
  19. Here is this week's girl's Dandy Dozen before last night's games. GIRLS BASKETBALL 1. MELROSE 16-3 2. HOUSTON 20-1 3. EAST 15-3 4. WEST MEMPHIS 15-2 5. BOLTON 14-4 6. ECS 14-3 7. CRAIGMONT 14-3 8. HAMILTON 17-5 9. RIDGEWAY 16-5 10. KIRBY 16-5 11. BRIARCREST 12-7 12. NORTHSIDE 16-6 Girls Athlete of the Week - WHITNEY WOODARD, East basketball: Woodard, a 6-0 senior post, led the No. 3 Lady Mustangs to a pair of big District 16-AAA victories. Last Tuesday, Woodard scored 16 points as East eked out a 55-50 win over Northside. She followed that with 28 points last Friday in a 78-67 win over Craigmont.
  20. Ashley scored 52 last night while leading her team to an 89-67 victory over Central High. Up next, Friday versus East.
  21. I wish we could get the teams from the city playing more schools from the NW. Why doesn't this happen more??
  22. Do you have any specific examples from Memphis that violate the rule ELA talks about? I'll be glad to check into them.
  23. everyone please ignore bubba1 and the post. I for one look forward to bantering back in forth with any Harding fan, or any other fan for that matter. Though not a supporter, I was impressed with their fan and student support at the game against Briarcrest. changing subjects Hey Briarcrest, FRHS can't beat ECS, can you??? "Oh, but we didn't have Archie" - yeah, we've heard it before.
  24. yeah Hoopfan, saying that HH has FRHS's number was too strong, my bad. I should have said that HH won round 1 and left it at that. "callinyouout" - I would agree with you that BCS start the year #1 because of last year's championship, but there have been enough games played this year in my opinion to show who deserves to be ranked higher. ECS deserves to be #1 until someone proves they're better on the court. I did have BCS #1 in Nov. early Dec. but the loss to a weakened FRHS (without Archie) after ECS had beaten them was my proof otherwise. If Briarcrest were 0-15 I wouldn't rank them #1 just because they won state last year. I have to form an opinion on how they are playing now. What do you see in how they're playing that makes them better than FRHS, HH, or ECS?
