  1. First of all, yes I do know about everything that the player and the player’s parent were faced with. I know about the agreement between the coach and the player, and then about the new information. I know everything in complete detail. I know what happened and obviously I know what I saw. I also know what I would have done given the same situation. Your post here is revealing that it is you that does not know the player’s circumstances, or the other turn of events, and therefore, it is you that is speaking through ignorance. In reading what you just wrote, I understand now that you do not understand the circumstances that I am speaking of within our household. Your reply only considers your assumptions with no ambition to want to understand more than your own world. I have already written what I believe and will always believe. Again, if you would like to learn instead of make conjecture, please call me. You know how. This is my last post on this issue and I will not open this thread again to read any replies.
  2. You are correct, it is hard to let go and we are trying our best to do so in this household. However, unless you have a complete understanding of the set of circumstances we are dealing with, which you do not, please try to restrain yourself in preaching to me what I should or should not do. You have no idea of the impact of this decison, not mistake, had. If you know who I am and would like to call me to learn more, I would welcome your call. As far as the team is concerned, I am very proud of this entire team, including Coach Jackson. However, we did not exceed expectation, I would say that they came about three games short of my expectations.
  3. Pressured into serving the interest of adults? Obviously there was no pressure in this case because the kid, under the parent’s consent, did exactly what she, and they, wanted to do. And at the end of the game, she did not care about the outcome or impact of her actions because she was laughing it up with her friends as she left the locker room. The pressure should come from within, or from the kid’s parents, to do the right thing. Bailing on your high school teammates during the regional tournament could never be interpreted as the right thing to do. You can justify anything you want when you write your own set of rules. And when those rules get in the way, just re-write them again. It is unfortunate that we do live in a world that everyone seems to out for themselves. I for one, still believe in the team concept.
  4. Just to add to the understanding of the impact this player had by bailing out on her teammates, I just learned tonight that this "I-Don't-Care-About-My-Teammates" player made the All Region Team. If that does not twist the knife while it is in the back, I don't know what does. She should have never played this season at all. Kinsley, I read your post and I am sorry... she did you and the rest of the team wrong. I am so sorry it had to end this way for you and your teammates. The type of person you are will carry you a long way in life.
  5. It seems to me that in previous years, they publish the "also receiving votes" catagory. Did they do that again and does someone know where it can be found if they did?
  6. While I will give Frarklin all the credit, this is a surprise. Does Hillsboro move on?
  7. Harpeth Hall had a down year, and you hate to say that because the seniors on this team all are good athletes and are dedicated to being great players. I thought Laura Nichol advanced her game a great deal this year. Lacy has a great future in front of her. You can bet your last dollar that the Honey's will be back next year stronger than ever. Ensworth is a surprise to be sure, only because they are such a young team. But watching them play, they have a host of very good athletes. When they have a senior class, it would *not* be surprising to see them grab a gold ball!
  8. You are correct that the coach allowed it, but what I am saying is that the question should have never been asked. I am not going to tell you or anyone else that I have all the answers, but I can tell you that it would not take me a split second to tell my child “No, you cannot serve two masters.” My child would never have to make the request of the coach. My hat is off to Taylor Parrish of Harpeth Hall and her parents. They knew that Taylor would go big time volleyball, and she did. She got a full ride to Virginia Tech. She could have most definitely helped Harpeth Hall this year, but the Parrish’s decided that they could not commit 100% to the basketball team. Net result, other players picked up their game from the start. Lacy had a great season and became a much better player not having to play behind Taylor.
  9. Wow... what kind of laundry detergent did you use?
  10. Giv it I read your post earlier and wanted to think about what you are saying before I replied. You are correct that it is very hard to prioritize, but only when you do not place importance on a promise. The “ME” attitude has become more and more prevalent in today’s society. So the quandary that the player faces is; “What is more important?”, what “I” want to do, or what have I promised when I tried out and accepted a position on the team. To me, if you make a promise to one team and then make a promise to another team, it is the same thing as accepting two dates so that you can pick which one you like the most at the time the date is suppose to happen. General practice of character would not allow the quandary to happen in the first place. As to your other point about the action of the player being a direct reflection on the coach. The action of the player, as in cases of high school sports, is a direct reflection of the parents, and not the coach. There is no doubt in my mind that the player, a kid, wanted both shinny ribbons. It is up to us as parents to teach our kids what is right and wrong, and I do not think you could convince a panel of 12 that walking out on a promise, on a commitment, or on your team, is the right thing to do. And lastly, if your name has any relevance at all, I am surprised that you would not take the position that the kid should “Giv it all u got” when she got to the last game. I wonder if Jinx at Father Ryan, coaching the volleyball team, thinks that the kid might walk out on her volleyball team during a critical match to go play IMPACT somewhere?
  11. I do not believe I have ever actually witnessed a situation, whereby the overall highest scorer on a team, and biggest impact player, bails out on her teammates, to go and play in a 'nothing' volleyball tournament instead of playing the first game of the Regional Tournament. If that does not upset the entire team enough, that this player and the player's parents have done this to the team, the girls shows up at half-time, and the coach puts her in!! All of the players and parents could not believe what they saw! Father Ryan had the lead until this event upset everyone so much, they could not play as a team any longer. One player absolutely tore that team apart at the end. When she came out of the locker room, she was laughing it up and giggling with her friends! No tears, no disappointment that the season was now over. LAUGHING!
  12. Faith 1) No one has to play sports. A person can have an OPPORTUNITY to play a sport, but he or she has to abide by the rules of the game and the rules of conduct. This is true for all people at all ages. The rules for the game are not the rules for life. 2) Anyone that puts sports at a level that it takes away from school, their health, or responsibilities that they have actively assumed, then this person has their values mixed up. 3) I do not believe your story about this person.
  13. My daughter wanted to go to camps because they are a lot of fun. Forinstance, she made some friends at the Lady Vol camp when she was 12 that she is still friendly with today. The camp for us was a reward for her doing well in other areas. She went to the Dave DeVenzio National Point Guard Camp last year at the request of her high school coach. She had a lot of fun and did learn some things that she has put into her game this year. Was what she learned and put into application worth the amount we had to spend... No, but she had fun and it was worth the money for us for that reason. Here is their link http://www.nationalpgcamp.com/ My daughter took lessons from Tiffany Woosley since she was in the 8th grade. I can tell you that if she had not had these lessons from Tiffany, she would not be close to the player she is now. Tiffany charges $50.00 per hour for private lessons, and $50.00 per team lesson that last for two hours. Her number is 931-619-8991 if you would like to schedule a lesson with Tiffany. There are also others that give lessons that are listed in 'Roll Call' in the Tennessean.
  14. You are correct. I do not know anything!
  15. I have sent my daughter to camps for 9 years. My daughter went to a point guard camp last year. While there are some camps that are better than others, I am not a proponent of camps. It has been my experience that a one week camp teaches a great deal of information and the level of retention is not very high. If I was going to spend $595.00 for this camp, I would get weekly lessons for her instead. It was my experience that my daughter learned more, and put more into application, by having weekly individual and team lessons. At $50.00 per lesson, that would be twelve weeks of teaching and working on skills instead of a 4 day blast of info that you have to remember on find time to work on afterwards.

  17. Rhonda is a great coach. So what if she is all about one player. She at least understands who her best player is on the team. I am happy that she does not care about the intense political pressure that the wealthy BA parents can impose and keeps her focus on Victoria. Too many times, coaches in DII play players that are not as good because of the financial influence that some player's parents have. That is not the case with Victoria because her parent(s) cannot even afford to pay her tuition to BA at all. The boosters pay for her tuition, just like they did for her bother that is now at Auburn. So get off of Rhonda's case. She is focusing on Victoria because the other players on the team will not get her a State. It's all about winning!
  18. Faith+1 I like your handle and hope it is very much a part of you. Two things: 1) Anyone, ball player or ordinary Joe, who puts in 24 hour days with no rest will reap exactly what he is sowing. No person can do that and a decision to not sleep will ultimately bring bad results. 2) Always do the right thing and you will never have to address the issues that are being discussed. God bless you. CP
  19. Rhonda let Dunlap put a whooping on Father Ryan last night. The NC State coach was in the stands and she just let Vic go. I think that it is great to see the rest of the BA team stand back and let Victoria put it on. Victoria is the only one on the team that will get a basketball scholarship and Rhonda is doing a great job of promoting Dunlap to all of the big time schools. Rhonda walked the NC State coach all the way out to her car talking about Dunlap. Watch out ACC... The Vic train is coming!
  20. I am not a ref either, but I understand that the rule has it's roots in one team crossing the half court line while the other team is also warming up. I had heard that there had been some fights that had occurred and so they made it a Tech if a player crossed the half-court line during warm ups. I am likely wrong on some of this, but it is my understanding.
  21. Eage B fan While your enthusiasm is compelling, you have to put your faith in Rhonda to understand that she does not see the supporting players winning games for her. Vic is the only one that will lead her to the promised land.
  22. The weather and traffic won the game!
  23. DII It's hard not to put Ashley Easley at the top of the list. I think she has been on the list since she was a freshman. I will say this about the Miss Basketball award, the focus is always on scoring and not necessarily on who does the most to help their team win games. That being said, Kinsley Longhurst has played great at point all year for Father Ryan and has put her team in position to win. She has been the general on the court in McElhiney fashion averaging almost 6 assist and 8 points per game. She did put 24 points with seven threes up on Wilson Central. But again, she will not get a look because the 14+ per game scorer's get the headlines.
