  1. Tyner. You sit behind the light poles in the dark and look uphill at the game.
  2. Before I go any further let it be known I am a Lipscomb fan. Any slant to us or middle TN is unintentional. I would argue that areas of the state just go up and down in cycles. Sometimes your area may be better and sometimes another part of the state might surpass yours. To further this point I looked at the TSSAA webpage. Since 1993 east TN has won 4 2A titles (four different teams), middle TN has won 5 titles (all Goodpasture or Lipscomb) and west TN has won one 2A title (Milan). In that same period of time east TN has had 2 runners-up (Harriman and Meigs), middle TN has had 2 runners-up (same two as the winners) and west TN has had 6 runners-up (add Huntingdon, Union City, Westview and Mitchell). East and Middle Tn may seem weaker to you. The Tyner team I saw was the most talented 2A school I have ever seen by far. Will not say that their level of hustle matched their talent. The Alcoa team I saw had a lot of young talent but no size at all. Their future is very bright. I will not have seen anyone from west TN until tomorrow night. I will say that from the first mention of the season this year my pick to win 2A was Milan. So tomorrow night I don't know what to expect. Our schedule was a little weaker than past years. Just as Huntingdon could not control their opponents neither could we. Marshall Co. (3A) and Springfield (4A)were not as good as what we have played in the past. We dropped Boyd and added Ezell (more or less a wash). What hurt us was Station Camp coming into existence and being put into our region. We lost a very good game against BGA because of that. Rebel... I think the game being moved did two things. It hurt our crowd. I know of several families who had based all their Thanksgiving plans on a Friday game. Oh well!! My guess is it also helped the Alcoa crowd since your game was played on Saturday afternoon.
  3. I saw Lipscomb game vs Tyner. I would definitely take Smith over Bolden. Smith was a wrecking crew. Bolden did not do anything but stand there if the play went away from him. Our lineman did a decent job on Smith just to keep someone on our side from serious bodily injury. Some school got a gem here. Bolden's ways will change in college. He has the size and speed to be very good also.
  4. Thanks for that info Tom. Look forward to our trip up there. The barechested students might want to rethink that exploit this week. Also, I thought the TSSAA had outlawed artificial noise makers.
  5. Austin should be able to pick his school and his sport. Also, very good in track and I hear baseball is his best sport. I guess his recruiting started when both of his parents were sent to Lipscomb at a young age. They just happened to marry and have a very athletic son. That's how we recruit at Lipscomb. No offense to his dad, Randy; but, his mother was probably the better athlete.
  6. 2A lineman - number 77 from Tyner. I was impressed. 3A back - Roger Herndon from Greenbrier
  7. Good luck to Greenbrier from a Lipscomb fan. We enjoyed our road trip up there earlier in the year. You are a hospitable place to play. Hope Herndon goes off for you guys. He sure did against us.
  8. My gut feeling tells me that Lipscomb should be able to handle Alcoa in this game. Especially after what I saw at Tyner last week. There is however one factor that could play a big part in this game. Neither team can control the weather. The weather channel is predicting windy conditions with snow showers and 26 degrees. Nothing equals out talent and experience quite like a little adverse weather condition. Maybe whoever deals with the weather best wins this game.
  9. Well, what I envisioned happening and what really happened are totally different. I suspected that Lipscomb would need some turnovers and penalty help and have to play flawlessly to win here. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Tyner was never in this game at all. The big fast guys were exactly that; but, it never mattered. While they are formidable as a defensive line they are not much at all as an offensive line. If Lipscomb hadn't fumbled on their own five it would have been a shutout. It even took four plays to score from there. How in the world did you beat Goodpasture? Your line is incredibly impressive to look at. 77 really stood out when the playing began. He was like a man with boys out there. With the right work he might one day play on Sundays. He is every bit as impressive as John Henderson was in high school. Easttnexpert, did the better team win? Or somehow, in your delusional little mind is Tyner somehow better? By the way, the visitors side of your field needs a lot of work. The lighting is not good, there are no speakers and there was not enough proper prior planning when the place was built. Otherwise, there would not be light poles between the stands and the field.
  10. AlcoaRyder Not a single Lipscomb regular poster has said one word in this thread. I remember Alcoa from 98 in the semifinals at Lipscomb. If you still have the same coaching stafff, your team will be a lot of fun to watch. I remember the offense was fairly sophisticated and involved lots of different formations. Seems like I recall quite a bit of passing. May the better team win. I am looking forward to a little trip to east tennesee.
  11. I do not understand what all the hate is toward Lipscomb on this thread and the "Official" thread. I post fairly consistently about Lipscomb and so I follow threads that involve them. I am one of the first regulars to even venture into these threads to make a comment. Most of the regulars are probably as confused here as I am. We have had a long running rivalry with Tyner going back to the early to mid nineties. None of the games have been blowouts unless last year is considered a blowout. Real Lipscomb fans have a very healthy respect for Tyner and their program. We know we'll need our A game tomorrow night or we can go ahead and worry about next year. Hopefully, real Tyner fans know that we will come to play and will not be beaten easily. Tyner will be much larger and overall more athletic. Lipscomb will be more disciplined and overall better coached. If Tyner avoids penalties and turnovers it will be hard for Lipscomb to beat them. If Tyner does have these problems it will be hard for them to overcome Lipscomb's discipline. I look forward to a very good game, win or lose. One other point, this game is not for the AA championship. Whoever wins this one will go to the championship game; but, that does not assure you of a title. At Lipscomb, we have learned that there is another team located in Gibson County that you best have a healthy respect for also.
  12. Who choked last year? Was that a choke? Or, did you just get your butt soundly thrashed.
  13. jett There is no team out there that cannot be beaten. I hope you are young; that way you have a excuse for being so stupid. Everyone can be beaten. Your team will find that out Friday night.
  14. I'll take DL to have this one finished off by the end of the 1st. DL 45 HC 6
  15. This is not a game at all. Houston County is better than they were in week 2. Unfortunately, for them, so is Lipscomb. HC might even score more than the six points they did in round 1. Unfortunately, for them, it will not be nearly enough. McAdams reigned them in the first time as he always does when a comfy lead is attained. No need to run scores up and embarass someone. Way too many weapons on one side in this game.
  16. The question probably should be more like, "Can Houston County keep from being embarrassed?"
  17. What happened to all the Ezell opinions we used to read. You lose three, er two, games in a season and you are never heard from again. Bow up and give us a prediction.
  18. Fatcat Don't let the poll bother you. I came and saw your boys play the first game of the year. They can play. That's what counts. We wound up winning a title last year and we were never ranked all year. We pummelled the number 1, 2 and 3 teams in the AP poll. All that matters is where you wind up. I know it's frustrating to not get the recognition you feel you deserve. Let your boys take it out on playoff opponents. Good luck.
  19. I saw them play last Friday night and they were fairly disciplined. Only one five yard penalty for the evening. Some good talent but very young. They did get frustrated at times and there appeared to be some extra curriculars going on. Officials never called anything. Maybe it was my imagination.

    Station Camp

Somebody please tell me a little bit about Station Camp. I know they are relatively new and in Sumner county. That's the extent of my knowledge. Do they have seniors yet? What style do they play? Any particular players to watch? I saw in the schedules that they are 4-4 so far. Closer game than I would have thought against Goodpasture and then blown out a couple of times. Any help would be appreciated. Oh yeah, where is it?
  21. Like twittycanes, I am a Lipscomb fan. Accordingly, I have seen both teams play this year. I think there is little doubt that Davis is the best athlete and football player in this game. Herndon is not far behind, however. He actually did a lot more (more than double the yards) against us than Davis did. Coaching seems about even here. Both staffs do a good job. I would say that Greenbrier has a better O line, though considerably smaller. I would give G the nod on defense also. Greenbrier by 6, in a low scoring game.
  22. volplaya I think Lewis Co is 7-0, just as they have been many other years. Were they for real in any of those years. I don't think so.
  23. Catalyst You are good enough to beat Goodpasture and I hope you do. It would do my heart good to see the Pasture on the road in the first round of the playoffs. Good luck!
  24. Elrod had one of the rougher games I have seen him play. Westmoreland was the cause of some of that and Elrod just playing bad was the cause of some of it. The part Westmoreland caused was all centered around defensive formations. Westmoreland lines up a lot different than most teams you play and get away with it because they are hitters. They play the line with incredibly wide line splits and the linebackers very spread out. The safeties are as deep as anybody you want to play. Elrod kept trying to throw over them. Not even his receivers, who are quite fast, could get past those safeties. They looked more like the intended receivers than the Lipscomb kids. The option play in the second quarter toward the Westmoreland sideline was just a bad play on his part. No hit at all, and really no pressure either, he just pitched it early into thin air. Fumble by him in third quarter was due to a good hit. It happens.
  25. easton2 you are right. The comment was strictly to get Catalyst to make a definite prediction. No harm intended. Hopefully, Catalyst did not see it that way. As usual, my fourth trip to Westmoreland was a lot of fun. I remember well my third trip up there. It was on September 14, 2001. Our country was reeling and the TSSAA decided to play the games that week. As a pressure release, I think that was a good thing. Both bands played a combined national anthem at the start. The gutwrencher was when the one kid from Westmoreland, standing apart from the rest, blew out TAPS. It is a memory from a high school football game I will never forget. Great atmosphere in Westmoreland for football. Keep up the good work.
