  1. well, at least we know that one team from each district will be going to substate.... CoachT has the two girl games being played today and the Clay-RBS Boys game playing today, but then it has Westmoreland and Trousdale playin at 9 on Thursday. Seemed kinda weird to me....anyone got any info????
  2. I thought Westmoreland would win but not by 16.... its shaping up to be a great region semifinal... If G'Ville wins then that would mean that 3 teams from district 8-A would be in the final four. I wouldn't have guessed that at all.... It just goes to show how much talent and parity there is in 8-A...
  3. I would like to agree with you but I have a gut feeling that one of the teams from 7a will shock someone, making it a 2-2 split between 7A and 8A. Most people thought before the season that a Westmoreland-Pickett game would be for the region championship, not the quarterfinals. Interesting....
  4. I am gonna have to disagree with ya dawg05.... I think the winner of the region will be from the other bracket....whoever wins the Westmoreland-Clarkrange game will take it all. I do think that Clay Co. will be in the championship though. But then again, its tourney time, a Gordonsville or Friendship might have a magic act in their bag... i can't wait
  5. The first trophy of many to come via the Wilson Central Girl's Basketball program. Congratulations Gassie and Central... Like they say, third time's a charm.
  6. Belmont is started to become a rising program in 1-A. Just look at what they have done in 4 years since transferring from the NAIA... With athletes like Adam Sonn and Adam Mark setting the precedent, they for sure have shocked a lot of people in the past 4 years. Plus, they have some young talent.... Former Whites Creek PG Brian "Penny" Collins (Soph) and Harpeth sharpshooter Josh Goodwin(Fresh). Coach Byrd has done and will continue to take that program up.
  7. Trousdale is the hottest team in the district right now... they have come on strong right when it counts. If you would have told me midseason that they would rattle off 3 wins against Friendship, Westmoreland, and G'Ville in 8 days then I would have laughed. But that is what makes basketball so great, and that is what has made this district so great. Regions should be unbelievable....
  8. I heard through the grapevine that Gassie is being recruited by major D1 schools, is this true???
  9. It should prove to be a heckuva game tomorrow night. I think Gordonsville will win in the end though. Although Trousdale has some excellent athletes and some killer defensive presses. BTW, does everyone like the new adjustment this year with the first game being at the home seed's gym. I thought that it kind of took away from the tournament experience and atmosphere. Kind of cheapened it, in my opinion.
  10. girls games are tonight, guys are tomorrow night, right????
  11. To the comment made about the Metro ABC schools doing what they at first feared most....splitting..... I know for a fact that some of those schools wanted to split at first. Myself? I would have liked for everything to stay the same. I think this mulitiplier will hasten the decision for private schools to split. And I think that this will in effect cause the talent level of public school competition to go down.... Example.... Private school leagues would then give scholarships to players, pay the most for the best referees in the state and also have the best facilities (for the most part) in the state. If you were a up and coming athlete, would you rather go play at a private school or a public school. Unless that public school's athletic program has been established, I would think that the athlete would go to a private school. Just my opinion, though.... just trying to present the possible effects of all of this....
  12. Friendship is one of those schools who might be bumped up....
  13. With the exception of Westmoreland (so far), this district is a very surprising and inconsistant to say the least. I knew Watertown would be a threat, but I didn't think that they would pull off a victory against Friendship. And I was absolutely shocked when Van Buren beat Gordonsville on Monday, and then even more shocked when Van Buren went to Mt. Juliet Christian and won by only 10 due to good free throw shooting in the first half. I think that anything could happen come tourney time, especially within the top half of the bracket. I think that there could be an upset or two in the district tournament, but the only teams with a real shot to get out of regions is either Gordonsville or Westmoreland. The other teams are just too inconsistant, you never know who is going to play well on any given night....
  14. what happened against trousdale.... I have seen both teams play and Westmoreland is 20-30 points better than TCHS..... Is it one of those classic cases where you play at your opponent's level???
  15. I too saw the poor officiating, I don't know if I have ever seen such poor calls, but they did have TSSAA patches on their sleeve, so I guess they are with TSAA. College Heights- Extremely talented team, pure athleticism, and that lefty guard can light it up. But where did everyone come from(rhetorical question, I think I can take a reasonable guess:))? I hear that CH are going to move to the TSSAA next year. Are they going to continue to give scholarships to their players and play in D2 or are they going to retract that and go single A? And are they still in the TACS league? Sorry for all the questions, just curious.... CPA- second time I have seen this team this season. I think they have a couple good athletes, but their coaching staff does an extremely good job. I heard someone behind me say, "Just imagine if the CPA staff had the CH athletes..." Oh, and who won today's games????
  16. Don't bother trying to rationalize with the arguments JMo. These guys obviously have some sort of vendetta against buzz or Tennessee. First of all, it wasn't only Buzz who tried to recruit Boomer... it was also Gottfried from Alabama and Stallings from Vanderbilt. Not to mention talks with Penn State and Wake Forest. He has really started to turn it on lately. He made some key plays against Georgia and was the key player in the first half. He has surprised everyone. No one thought he would get off the bench this year or next. And today he got some quality minutes (especially in the first half), but the guards just couldn't break the defense and look inside. Even Brandon Crump only had 8 shots. Second, Dane Bradshaw is a whole lot better college player than Lee Humphrey. Humphreys is not a true point guard and is too small for a shooting guard. I don't even need to say anything else, really...time will tel. Third. Tennessee is extremely young and Buzz does a good job recruiting. Just wait for Stanley Asumnu and John Winchester to blossom. Also, Sophomore CJ Watson was the only player this summer from the SEC to play for the Junior Olympic Squad. Tennessee also has some strong recruits for the upcoming season. Sometimes I just sit back and read people's posts and laugh. Even though I am a long time Vandy fan, this post was way too absurd, I had to come back with a rational argument. Boomer worst recruit ever? Humphreys better than Bradshaw? ETSU better than Tennessee? Come on people, don't show your ignorance so easily, let every one figure it out over time
  17. I think that Westmoreland will probably beat RBS in the fourth quarter, They have some real prime time players. Of course, playing MJCA on Tuesday might have toned them down to some degree, maybe not though.... MJCA's guys team is in its second year of rebuilding... It use to compete with all of the schools but the team now is full of youngsters (and only one senior). They try to make up in heart what they lack in skills, but that coach will have his team in a couple of years.... Their sports program is not as great as everyone else's because the school is so small enrollment in the high school is just over 120 but they are starting to grow at a regular pace... As their enrollment goes, so will their athletic performance... its just so hard to have a program with so few kids (ask Hermitage Springs or even RBS with their football). Their baseball team is pretty stout and all the other sports except for basketball are competitive. Even their football team had 4 wins this season...and this is their first year in district play and the second year with a full schedule. Look for MJCA not to become a powerhouse but a lot more competitive over the years. They will start retaining their athletes in that Wilson County area plus a lot of people are starting to choose MJCA over Friendship in the area...
  18. 1. Westmoreland 2. Gordonsville 3. Friendship 4. Watertown 5. Van Buren 6. Trousdale 7. MJCA 8. Boyd Westmoreland is great and I heard that Gordonsville is pretty good too. I think that Watertown may give those top 3 spots a run for their money. Van Buren is the team that links the good to the not so good... I heard Trousdale is pretty bad this year, maybe that will make for some good competition in the 8-A basement
  19. Congratulations Nathan.... You sure do deserve it.... Hope things are going well for ya up in Freed Hardeman!
  20. What was the final score of that westmoreland v. MJCA game???
  21. Yeah, what were you thinking, muffin, giving a prediction on a game...shame on you (sense the sarcasm contact2004)... I think both teams are outstanding and that the games should be fairly even...and remember, anything can happen, just look at Westmoreland's guys getting beat by 20 by VanBuren, or even take Shelbyville's girls' situation....
  22. wow, thats a shocker... I do remember a Chris DeLong that played with Seamons two years back; I would guess they are related.... I heard that Gordonsville is playing extremely well, maybe they are the favorite for the district now...
  23. So should we NOT talk about someone being a great ballplayer if their grades aren't up to par? I am confused as to how this thread came to this point... I agree with some of the comments that have been made, but I still think that a player should receive accolades regardless of scholastic performances. DeMarco was a better player than Mario in '02 and should have received Mr. Basketball, but should he have not received that award because Mario was going to a school like Vandy and DeMarco was just headed to a JUCO school? NO... Should we have left DeMarco out of our commentary then about being a great player? NO... If a kid isn't going D-1 because of grades, then I would think that accolades on the high school level would be a good thing... Like I said earlier, I do agree that more nurturing should be given to athletes to make sure they can make it to D-1, but I think some of the comments would be more appropriate in another thread, not a thread about someone being a great player on the court...Happy Thanksgiving....
  24. 1. Westmoreland-certainly not as good as the #1 ranked team in 2002, but still tops in the district... 2. G'Ville- Austin should be fun to watch in the new school 3. Watertown- have good starting 5 w/2 good players leading the way (Thomas and #13 Rowe?) 4. Friendship- losing their grip as district's perennial powerhouse 5. Trousdale- lost quite a bit from last year's cinderella team that went to the Boro 6. Van Buren- Don't know much about their squad 7. Mt. Juliet Christian- MJCA has alot of young talent, with only 1 Sr., the future only looks brighter and they could surprise some this year 8. Boyd Christian -Ahhh yes, Boyd, that lovely checkered kitchen gym floor, talk about traction! These are only predictions, I think Westmoreland is a lock and the best shot that District 8-A has against the up and coming programs in 7-A. I think that parity runs through 3-6th place and that this season should send some shockers.... Regardless, the district just isn't as stacked as it has been in years' past. Maybe I am wrong though....we shall see
  25. I played on Midway's gym two years ago...the gym floor is nice, and the gym itself is cozy... The main thing for me was the lighting, it looked kind of dark... but it was loud though, i do remember that (probably cuz the game went into OT)
