    COACH OF YEAR

Coach Pack from CPA did a great job this year bringing his team from an 0-3 start to a state title. Healso was very smar to have Tom Moore assist him(one of the bes head coaches i9n the state last year). Coach Major Wright from White Station took a winless team a year ago to one game away from the playoffs in a tough 5A region with Houston, Germantown and Collierville. The coach at MBA(not sue of the name) made the Big Red better every week and brought them back to the state with less talent than their previous years.
  2. I had to put Bishop Byrne in there for winning state. I also do not believe that Bishop Byrne could compete with those teams you named but you have to give credit to a team that wins state.
  3. 1.Melrose 2.Germantown 3.MUS 4.CBHS 5.Briarcrest 6.Ridgeway 7.East 8.Covington 9.Bolton 10.Bishop Byrne 11.Fairley 12.Houston If these teams played today, this is how I believe they would finish. Briarcrest and Ridgeway had great years, but they played in a weaker division than the top 4
  4. MUS has two good sophmores. William Stout - P (throws low 80's) Rob Park - SS ( hit in the upper .300's as a freshman and played solid infield.)
  5. I was at the 1994 Clinic Bowl games, and I saw Knoxville Web win their game. They had a solid Qb and Wr. I was wondering if anyone knows if this was Pennington that was the Qb that played that game and if the Wr he threw to for two TD's in the game played anywhere in college.
  6. If Melrose can defeat Hillsboro, I believe they mathup best with Maryville and will play in one of the best state title games in the past several years.
  7. VG, I agree with your reaction to last weeks game. Germantown has a great team this year as well. They run the ball well and stop the run, keys to vicory mostof the time. Their one setback, that JCM tried to exploit is that they are vulnerable against the pass. Since they rarely throw the ball, the seldom see it in practice and running a 4-4 three deep zone all game has some major holes down field. Had JCM thrown the ball 40 times with their good QB, then they would have won the game in my opinion. Germantown will try to bull you ovr early and if they get the lead it is tough to come back, but make them play from behin and they cannot win. Brentwood High - 21 Germantown - 17
  8. I had the privilege of playing for Coach Moore in the East/West Shrine Bowl before what ended up being his last year at Brentwood Academy. He was a great coach and to reiterat what Kyle08 said, a great man. He made everyone at the game feel better about being there. He emphasized acting like a clas group and was there for anything we needed. Coach Moore was a disciplinarian but a "player's coach"; everyone on that team thouht he was a leader and somone they wished they had the chance to play for in high school.I also played against Coach Moore during the regular season. His team was not very talened as opposed to past BA teams but he got everything out of his players. He did more than anyone could have asked during a tough time at BA and was not rewarded but ousted. think this man is one of the finer coaches in the state and if I had an opening at a school in the state of Tennessee, I would go to Tom Moore to offer a job. I forgot to mention, Coach Moore's West team won the game. Ironically over the Ezell-Harding coach.
  9. I saw Melrose play MUS this year. Unlike last year, the earlier posts are correct, Melrose is a very disciplined team this year. They run a balanced offense and have big play potential at ever moment in the game. Their backs and receivers are extremely fast, and can break one the distance from anywhere on the field. Most teams fear the deep ball from them, but the key to their game plan is spreading the defese out and running the football. Their quarterback has a good arm and handles their passing attack(stops, takeoffs and slants) well. They all sit as offensive and defensive units on the sideline and unlike previous Melros teams commit few penalties and handle the ball well. This is the one team that I feel ca challenge Maryville this year. They have proven their success by beating MUS, CBHS, and East two times. I know they play Hillsboro this week who has had a great year, but I do not see Melrose losing to anyone this year.

JAC, I saw the Cbhs and Ridgeway games. I stand by my statements from earlier.

JAC I have been to two BCS games this year, and the players that stood out on Defense wore numbers 50(Hellman, 4(Towns), and 6(Stauffer). These were the most influential people on a BCS Defense that played well all year. They never took any plays off and made plays throughout the games. Sorry Big Curry, but I was not that impressed with the D line for BCS. Their linebackers made most of their plays without mch penetration and movement up front. One D-lineman that plays hard and pretty well is #73(Weintraub). The other BCS lineman did not impress me in the games I saw. GOOD YEAR BCS. Everyone in West Tennessee was glad to see ya'll win a deserving state title. Domination, that's what it is all about, and that's what I just did to you.
  12. I guess you did not know that most public schools perform their own version of recruiting as well. MAgnet schools have already been mentioned. In the city of Memphis their is a clause called "open enrollment" Here a student can transfer to almost any other school in the city just to take a class that is not offered at the school in their district. Get off the privates. I agree that they should all be together, but they should have never left in the first place. Of the TSSAA members, all are public school affiliated. When the rest of the privates come into DII, the public schools will be an aftermath and few will think that the best football is played there. I am one of them.

JAC, Towns should win the award. He was the most important player for his team and made big plays time and again to win big games for BCS. The award is given on this merit. The lineman award is given on the same basis. Do not think that they choose on how much a kid is recruited by. They go by talent and use the opinions of sportswriters and coaches to make this decision. If he doesn't win it will be because of this. The lineman award works the same way.
  14. BCS's Towns is a solid player. He is supposedly getting looks from some D1 schools as a returner and DB. He is too small to play RB at a major college, but his speed might be worth someone taking a chance on. He is D1AA player at worst.
  15. Justin Curry, Just worry about the BGA backs coming down hil, not the predictions for your games. You need to be watching fim, seeing i their lineman give away their pulls and pass blocks. You also might want to find out what are BGA's favorite plays out of their favorite formations. Get off this site and get ready, you can talk all you want after the game. Ya'll are a ten point underdog right now and we would like to have a title here in the West.
  16. Having seen MBA twice I can tell you this: They will use a variation of the spread offense. They use three to four wide receivers in sets and will throw outs, in routes and deep balls. They like to gash teams by running zone and trap plays out of these sets. They have lined up in the I while ahead to grind the ball and control the clock on teams they can outman up front(They must be able to run the ball out of the spread to stop BA from rushing three and dropping eight in coverage). Their QB, #12 Michael Fisher has a strong arm and makes few mistakes. He likes to throw the ball mainly to their TE, Tom Santi #6. He will hit his WR's as well, and they have made some big catches all year. The game is resting on Michael Koban and the lines shoulders though. He is a solid back and has the ability to break the long run. He will have to for MBA to stay close. MBA's two kickers will also play a big role. Their punter had a good game last week versus MUS and needs to do so again. Wildcatfan, Hope this helps.
  17. Boneal is right there is no substitute for eating good meals. Starting with a large breakfast every morning, most kids neglect this aspect. It is also better to eat 5 small meals a day rather than three large ones. This way your body can handle each meal at its fullest. The next thing to ddo is hit the weight room hard. Lifting weights gives every high school athlete a strong advantage over those who do not lift. It is important to run and keep lean muscle not just to bulk up in mass. Not everyone can eat 5 times a day, nor does everyone have access to that kind of nutrition. If you have to take supplements, then the best one is Cell Tech by far. You will gain 10 lbs. in a month if taken correctly and you work out on it. It is rather expensive, but it is far better than any other legal supplement. Protein is not a bad thing to have extra of. Protein shakes and Cell Tech are a solution to gaining weight.
  18. Besides Maryville, the Private School division would dominate the Public Schools. Maryville might be the only exception. To quote Eddie Murphy in the barbershop scene of "Coming to America", "That's they one."
  19. What about MBA two years ago. What does this prove ?? They still have to beat Memphis Melrose.
  20. I guess no one has ever heard of the good baseball teams in West TN, Germantown, Houston, and CBHS.
  21. Sorry Stan but very few 5A athletes have come out of West TN. The athletes have come from East, Melrose, and Fairley. Not one is a 5A school. The best 5A players like Abe Felix are not even DI college prospects. Try again. DII has far outnumbered any other class.
  22. BA might have some, but MUS has one for next year(Todd Jean-Pierre DE), none this year, and CBHS has only one on its current team(Cory Mills DE). There are no others inWest Tennessee. Size is a killer for most of these athletes. MBA might have one or two, but this is nothing compared to what these schools used to have.
  23. CBHS - Nick Signiago, Mississippi State David Ligon, Tennessee MUS - Richard Moore, North Carolina Wes Scott, Ole Miss Mark Pera, Auburn Scott Vogel, Memphis Chance Carlisle, Yale David Thompson, Arkansas Estes Folk, Princeton BA - Ben Walker - Vandy Scott Wells - Tennessee Taylor Bouegouis - Auburn Jake Slaughter - Auburn MBA - Blake Sloan - Air Force Barton Simmons - Yale Dominique Morris - Vandy Moses Osemegie - Vandy Ingle Martin - Florida Tate Rich - Yale Father Ryan - Todd Campbell - Ole Miss McCallie - Penn Garvich - Navy Baylor - Willie Idlette - Wake Forest I believe all these are correct and I am sure I left a few off, but what one classification can compete with thes schools. Many others have attended smaller collge programs as well. I challenge someone to match this list. [Edited by Lynch on 11-17-02 2:24A] [Edited by Lynch on 11-17-02 2:25A]
  24. I have been reviewing the numbers on athletes that have gone on to play college football for Division I schools. As I am looking it seems that Division II has put out a far greater number of athletes than any one class in the public schools. One could say this has to do with recruiting but I believe that it is due to the development that occurs through coaching and the training the private school kids receive. The weightrooms are traditionlly better as well as the plying facilities. The coaching has done an excellent job in promoting the kids and preparing them for play at the next level. I believe the college prep schools have far out done the public schools in doing just that.
  25. Although I am impressed with the schools in Division II, I think that the original DII teams of 1997 were stronger. I have seen a large number of these schools play over the years an I am convinced that there was more talent up and down the board for Most every DII school at the beginning of the league as opposed to now. Almost every Super 7 team was putting out Division I college athletes each year. Now the league will belucky to have two or three. If you agree in the decline of the league, what do you attribute this to.
