I predicted a Harriman win on Friday. If at the time if I would have known it would be played on Monday then I would have said "I guarantee an Oneida win by 7 points." Just kidding. Like the King said, Harriman is in for some trouble the last few weeks and I wanted to try and build them up some because I felt they could beat Oneida. I shouldn't have guaranteed a win on a previous thread, but sometimes a person shoots off at the mouth before they think. Oneida came out and jumped out to a 21-0 lead with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. Frome there I thought it'd be 60-0, but Harriman outplayed the Indians the rest of the way and made it 21-14. I doubt I'll pick the Devils again this year because they have Wartburg, Rockwood, Sweetwater, Crossville and Grundy County left. 2. TigersFan, I perosnally don't think that Greenback can beat Cloudland, Boyd, South Pitt or Gordonsville. That is why I say for them to get the respect of knowledgeable fans on here that they have to get past round three of the play-offs. I think most people don't consider them a threat to make it to the state and that's where the folks from Greenback feel that they are getting no respect.
  3. This was a great game last year with Sweetwater winning on the final play. Both teams return most of their players from last year and that could make it a dandy.
  4. I personally believe that Greenback is much better than last year and they were good then. It's a shame for them that they beat teams by 40 points and get no respect, but I guarantee you that the coaches use that as motivation. The Cherokees should be ablt to score some points on Midway and if they can stop Harman, then it could get ugly. However, if Harman gets his 4 yards a whack, the the Greenwaves can shorten the game and gain in confidence as the night rolls on. Again, Greenback has better athletes, but I am amazed at how much Coach Moser gets from his players on a weekly basis.
  5. Greenback should win Region 2-A, but that doesn't necessarily say a lot this year. The big test will come in the play-offs against Cloudland. That will be the game that the Cherokees get their respect. Maybe that's not right, but that's just the way it is. Greenback could be 12-0 and everybody will still talk about a weak schedule. The Cherokees will have to beat the Highlanders or everybody will simply say they were overated. It's kind of like basketball when the Cherokees had a good record until they hit the postseason and played good competition.
  6. Remember Kingston played cross-couty rival OS, so both teams could be flat.
  7. CAK will throw it, or at least they did against Midway. I don't how many times they threw it against the Greenwaves, but I remember from the story that it was quite a bit.
  8. This should be Greenback's year in Region 2A, but Midway and/or Coalfield could both get them. Midway is young and they don't have the Cherokee's weapons, but they lay it on the line each week. Coalfield is really dangerous. They have some real weapons on offense with Lowe throwing and Norman running. Again, Greenback is the favorite, but it's not going to as easy as they think. It reaaly doesn't matter because the road for all Region 2A teams will end whenever they play Cloudland either on the road or at home.
  9. David had one INT last night and has seven on the year. The other pick was by #26 Chris Collett or that's what I wrote down. David also picked up the blocked punt and returned it to the 26. He could be All-State as a freshman. [Edited by goosevol on 9-28-02 10:50P]
  10. Driggers started at the 21 and appeared going down at about the 35. He stumbled, but never fell. He was finally caught at the OS 14. He told me after the game that Ryan Hill was makinh a block and slid in front of him. He said that he never hit the ground because Hill was under him and that allowed him to regain his balance. A good photographer would have gotten a picture, but this sports reporter was busy watching the game at that point.

    Region names

Around here we call Region 2-2A, Region 2-2A.
  12. Yea, but then the Eagles turned around and beat Sunbight which was a team that beat them by more than 20 points last year so don't write them off too quickly.

    Harriman @ Alcoa

One thing I said I would never do is use my job or a board like this to bash coaches or players because the players don't get paid and the coaches don't get paid nearly enough for the amount of time they put in. But without saying much.... As a team, they aren't as good as the teams from five years ago, but they shouldn't lose 14 in a row either. Right now, Harriman (like other teams on a bad streak) seems to give up at the first sign of trouble. The coaches are going to have to find a way to prevent this, but the players are also going to have to not throw in the towel. I guess it's a little bit of everything. I hope for everybody's sake that they can win Friday, but they are going to have to play hard and not give in if something goes wrong. On antother note, one thing that coaches must do on the high school level is teach the kids about life as much or more than the game. Hopefully, the kids are learning how to deal with adversity through the losses. I've heard people say you can tell more about someone when things go bad instead of when they are good. That's not much of a bright side though. [Edited by goosevol on 9-23-02 1:33P]

    Harriman @ Alcoa

The Indians are simply young. Harriman, no matter the situation, should beat a Class A team with that many freshman starting. Harriman may not beat them, but they should. Oneida is still in great shape to make the play-offs.
  15. I think the Wildcats will kill Loudon. I don't think the Redskins are near the team they usually are.
  16. What was the score when TJ went down? I heard after the first quarter that the Bulldogs played pretty well and was wondering how much the loss of Brock will hurt the team.

    OS 91

I remember watching him last year in middle school and you could tell he had the chance to be a special player. Eventually he'll be as good on offense as defense because he's a great athlete that knows how to play the game. If he keeps it up, he could make All-State this year as a freshman.
  18. The Warriors lost 34-21 at Midway. It was 14-14 at the half, but Midway put them away with 20 straight points in the second half before CAK score against the Midway reserves. However, OS beat Rockwood 7-6.

    OS 91

No rain. OS scored in the first half on a 75-yard run from Andrew hayes. RW scored in the second quarter when Bryson Pryor capped a 16-play, 73-yard drive with a 1-yard run. Neither team did much after that. RW drove to the OS 35 in the third quarter, but Doug Kyle came up with a pretty INT on a slant. After that the Tigers did not get another first down while the Bobcats ate up the clock by picking up some key first downs on 4th and 3 and 4th and 4 in the fourth quarter.

    OS 91

I've got to eat some crow. I didn't think that OS could beat Rockwood, but they wanted it more tonight. There line was the difference. They got the lead early and dominated the line of scrimmage after that. My hats off to the Bobcats.

    Harriman @ Alcoa

I think the Indians are starting seven freshman and I think the Devils can beat a Class A team with seven freshman. Then again, they may not.

    Harriman @ Alcoa

I know I picked Alcoa to win in the paper, but Harriman has a shot. If the Devils play well early, they could win. Remember Alcoa has been getting thumped and they are looking for bad things to happen. I still think Alcoa will win because they throw the ball well and Harriman's secondary hasn't looked that good. Mark my words on this, Harriman's streak will not hit 15 in a row. If they don't win this week, they will pick up a WIN next Friday.
  23. I'll go with: Sweetwater over Wartburg (could be close) Rockwood over OS (experience) Alcoa over Harriman (Alcoa's passing game will be the difference)
  24. Gibbs has a lot of seniors and aren't that bad of a team. They probably cannot beat AC though, but AC fans may be disappointed if it's not a blowout.
  25. Brian Pankey is the head coach at Cherokee Middle School in Kingston.
