  1. What's your prediction for Wartburg at Rockwood?
  2. Good post OSIDER. I think the key to being a dominating post player is the attitude you have. I don't mean running your mouth, but if at 6'3" she could dominate the inside if she plays aggressively, but that is something that is hard to teach. It comes with maturity and understanding the game. If she comes out with the attitude that "I'm going to get every rebound" and then goes and gets it then she'll be tough, but if she plays tentative because she doesn't understand the game then she'll just be a tall player. I think that Dennis Rodman is the prefect example of a player that thought he could dominate a game on the boards. He wasn't the tallest, but he had that "The ball is myne and I'll work harder than anybody to get it" attitude. Granted athletic ability helps, but you have to believe that you can make an impact.
  3. Right now Bryson Pryor is starting at fullback but Weatherly will see plenty of snaps.
  4. They tried Reed and Beeson in scrimmages and Coach Webb felt that the offense had no flow. Preston has a better arm than Reed or Beeson and that will help keep defenses honest plus Beeson is a great receiver. That is why the move was made. Preston had 122 yards on 9 carries last week and he will still get plenty of chances to run the ball because Webb wants the ball in his hands. I will agree that Gallaher would do better at RB, but I think the team needed him at QB. I would have liked to see Beeson or Reed have gotten the chance to start because I really think that's what John wanted to do, but that's not how it worked out. I do think the Tigers need to get Reed involved in the offense whether it be RB or WR. Right now he's at RB but the Tigers have so many quality backs that he isn't getting much time. If he can catch the ball then maybe he should move outside. One thing I didn't see Rockwood do in scrimmages or against Midway was run the option. I know I would hate to be on defense with Gallaher and Thompson running the option. [Edited by goosevol on 9-5-02 3:32P]

What can Greenback do different if they run into Cloudland at home in week 13? [Edited by goosevol on 9-3-02 10:14P]
  6. Will there be any OS Internet broadcasts this year?
  7. The 'Cats should win big this week and will start climbing in the polls.
  8. I also think the Gibbs game will be close. Gibbs is senior dominated and you can do things with experience. The loser of this game might kiss the playoffs goodbye in week two. I think Midway will win, but I think it will be 2-3 TDs. OS should beat Harriman and the Game of the Week will be Rockwood and Wartburg. Both teams are very similar and don't be surprised if it goes down to the final play or at least a late onside kick.
  9. No problem. I have read many of your posts on here and I know you bleed Bobcat Purple. I know that many people in Roane County feel that Kingston gets more than its share of coverage. I will agree with that to an extent, but I think its more because of its location than an attempt to leave anyone out. I know a lot of people from Kingston come in with submitted photos and then when a major accident or fire happens it is easier for the paper to get to scene if it's in Kingston or Harriman. Many times a wreck will be cleaned up or a fire will be out before we make it to OS. That's some of the excuses. I do think the folks in OS will notice a change though because we have a relatively new reporter named Paul Fletcher covering the OS area. Paul is like me in that he'd rather be out in th community that sit at a computer during the day. He's the type that likes to talk to people and get to know them instead of just gathering facts. This should definitely be a plus for the coverage in Oliver Springs.
  10. Sorry Ro. Wartburg at Rockwood. OS at Harriman.
  11. WEll what did everybody think of Roane County teams in week one? I'd say three are mostly happy, one is in the middle and one is disappointed. 1. Harriman- This would be the disappointed team. The Devils really thought they had a shot at Kingston, but they simply couldn't move the ball on the Jackets. They must get their offense going or they're in trouble. 2. Midway- They stood toe-to-toe with Rockwood and won the respect of just about everyone at the game. After graduating about 20 seniors no one gave them much of a chance, but they played hard. If they play this hard all season then they might win the region again. 3. OS- Much like Midway, the Bobcats had to replace a lot of starters last season so a game one stutout was nice. Young teams need confidence early and I believe the Bobcats got it with this win. 4. Kingston- They also had a lot of players especially at the skill spots, so getting 39 points, no turnovers and a shutout had to make Coach King and Jacket fans happy. 5- Rockwood- Happy with the win and almost 300 yards rushing, but they couldn't have liked 12 flags, 5 dropped passes and letting Midway battle them for four quarters. What does everybody think about week two? Rockwood-Wartburg, OS-Harriman, Midway-Lookout Valley and Kingston-Gibbs. My predictions will be in the paper. Shameless plug, but it's job security. 12. It sounds like you have a problem with the Roane County News for which I am the Sports Editor. Last year was my first year with the paper and I'm proud to say that all OS basketball games were covered as were every Roane County game except for Harriman's opener with Loudon (both teams got drilled and I figured they didn't want to relive it). I personally was at 16 games that OS played. Didn't make it to Florida, the Farragut tourney or the Region Tournament (Surgery). I will agree with you that OS has gotten the shaft in the past from our paper in sports, but that hasn't happened since I got there. I'm from Oakdale and not anywhere in Roane County so I do not have a favorite or least favorite team. I don't have a clue who you are, but I know or somewhat know some OS basketball fans like KKV, BBallMom, the Hall's and Coach Wright and I think that they will all back me up in my coverage of OS basketball. Could it be better? It could, if we had one sports person for each city, but we don't and I do the best I can. I know you must think I hate OS or love Kingston or something, but that's not the case. In the paper, I never express my opinion (I do that on here) except to predict the scores of football games, which at times are not entirely true because sometimes I pick against the county team as a way to motivate them and I know Coach Johnson or any county coach will use anything like this to their advantage. Again if you don't like the RCN then that's fine, but I don't know who SportsEye is so your assumption that I've passed info is wrong. By the way I think OS has a great team and they have a shot to win it all this season. I also think, and I've stated on here before, that it's too early to pencil them in to Murfreesboro. Once any team reaches the Region semis it becomes a dogfight. Heck, last year, OS needed overtime to get past that round. They can win the state and they can get knocked off prior to the substate and I think you'll agree with me on that. Oh, well sorry to ramble, but I wanted to clear the air. I hope you have no ill will toward me because I try not to ###### people off in life. If you want to call me sometime do so at 865-376-3481 ext. 315.

    Murphy PLEASE?

I like you ELA, but watch film instead of reading the book. Heck, y'all didn't need the book this weekend against my boys from Oakdale. Good luck down the road.
  14. Dang going to watch someonr that you play. Everybody does that. You think anyone from Greenback might have been at the Roane County Jamboree or Midway's game with Rockwood on Thursday.
  15. I had that Rockwood dropped five passes and two would have been TDs. They did score on one of the drives, but that stuff will kill you. They also had 10 penalties that really hurt. Preston had two big runs and Critter's INT. return was negated. Midway also had seven penalties and long yardage situations takes Harman out of the equation, that cannot hapen for the Greenwaves to be successful. Both teams can have a good year, but they have to cut down on mistakes.
  16. The game was switched from Thursday to Friday.
  17. I think Harriman has a chance, but not a good one. Last year it was over at halftime, but I think Vic's Jackets will have a tougher time this year. I still like Kingston, but Harriman fans might have reason to be optimistic after the game. Monday's paper will also have the Football Frenzy contest in it, send it in for a chance at $25.

The Morgan Co. preview will be out in the Thursday, August 29 edition.
  19. Monday's paper will have the preview. It might still beat Murphy Fair.
  20. I just know that they blistered Oneida, but the Indians aren't going to be as good this year. Larry Davis has long been known as an offensive genious, but the Bulldogs have never been able to stop anybody. This year Jim Gibson is their defensive coordiantor and everybody that has mentioned to him to me says that he is a genius and he could be the missing piece to the puzzle. They basically return eight starters on each side of the ball and they're two deep at all skill positions. Junior quarterback John T. Armes was the Morgan Co. Player of the Year last season as a sophomore, but if he gets hurt then they could be in trouble. I seriously think that they will go at least 8-2 and part of it is because of the easy non-region schedule, but mainly because this could be their best season ever. They actually open the season this Friday in week 0 against Sunbright. I'm not trying to say that OS can't win the game, but Wartburg returns just about everyone while OS is replacing a lot of talent. By week 10 OS could win the game, but I don't think they could right now. I think OS's season will be similar to last season in that most games will be extremely close. Last season 9 games were decided by less than a touchdown. I don't think they're as strong in the trenches, but Whalen should be better at QB and that could offset what they might lose up front.
  21. I don't know OS 91. If Wartburg and OS played today I would pick Wartburg by 2 TDs. This is probably the best team in Bulldog history. They're returning dang near everybody from a team that won at OS last year. I think Wartburg is at least an 8-2 team this season, possibly better. Just my opinion though and it's 10 weeks before the Bulldogs and Bobcats tangle.
  22. Catholic isn't better than Rockwood if the Tigers settle on a qb and get everything on track. I do think Preston will start at quarterback.
  23. Scrimmage 1- I didn't think OS looked good against Scott. Their starters won 20-14, but Scott was moving the ball at will at the end. It looked liked OS wasn't in very good shape. Scrimmage 2- Clinton beat OS 35-27, but I doubt that OS will see a QB that moves that well this season. OS held up better today and seemed to keep their intensity longer. I thought they looked way better against Clinton than they did against Scott, even with a loss.

    Harriman Wins

The Blue Devils rolled up 311 yards rushing on 32 carries. Granted it wasn't Kingston, but it some much needed good news for the Blue Devils' team.
