  1. As Chucky implied, it wasn't only wet on Camden's side. The wet field impeded Lewis County's defensive speed, too. Camden won. You don't have to make excuses.
  2. In his defense, Donald has been nursing an injured hamstring all year. However, I do agree with you that he appears to be over hyped. Consider this...as a freshman, he was 6'3" 220 pounds. As a senior he is 6'3" and weighs 220 pounds. He had the benefit of physically maturing early and playing on a team as a freshman that would have won the state championship with or without him, but got a lot of exposure with that team because of his size and because he started both ways. Murphy Fair has picked him as a preseason all-stater every year since. He is definately an athlete, but I find it very hard to believe that he's the #11 player in the entire nation. If he is, he should be dominating high school boys playing at the 2A level, injured or not. He has been very average. He'll probably go to Tennessee and get his shot. But, he's no Patrick Willis.
  3. This was a very good game. Too bad my team came out on the losing end. I'm proud of both teams. Very clean game (figuratively speaking). Camden's defense exploited our weakness on offense. Anyone who has watched Lewis County play this year knows what I'm talking about. Lewis County's defense needs to be recognized for only allowing 2 field goals against an offensive powerhouse like Camden. If I'm not mistaken, this Lewis County team set the school records for fewest points allowed in a season (34 points) and fewest points per game average (3.4). I'm sure that Lewis County and Camden will be playing for the title again next year. These two programs respect each other from the coaches, to the players, to the fans. Let the other schools in our region talk all the smack they want. Assuming Camden and Lewis County wins their first round games, they'll probably meet CPA and Goodpasture respectively. I think Camden matches up against CPA better than Lewis County would and Lewis County matches up against Goodpasture better than Camden would. I have my reasons for believing this. I'm sure the coaches would agree. It sure would be nice to have a rematch in 3 weeks, now wouldn't it?
  4. Most people know I'm a 6 2A guy, but this post is a lot of bravado from a guy whose team is guaranteed to have to meet either CPA or Goodpasture in the first round. You Waverly guys were impressed by Camden's offense...just wait. And don't think these private school boys are soft. They know the public schools think they are, and therefore they do some "wood-slammin" of their own. As I said before...regardless of what happens 10/27 between Camden and LC, it's going to be TOUGH for either one of these exceptional publics to be able to match up with these two privates. I'm not saying they are unbeatable. But the 6 2A elites are going to have to give 100% from warmups til alma-mater. The way I see it, Lewis County and Camden are the two best closed-zoned public schools in the state.
  5. You mean like CPA and Goodpasture who have rosters of around 90 players each...mostly Sophomores and upperclassmen.
  6. Nevermind which side you fall on in this discussion, this should be the most competitive playoff matchup scenario in the state, regardless of classification. Five of the top 10 ranked teams in 2A will be fighting it out between these two regions. Both CPA and Goodpasture are going to be tough for the publics to beat due to their ability to pass to multiple receivers. Most public schools at below the 4A level just don't have the athletes to cover 2 receivers, much less 3 or 4.
  7. We need about 6 more pages of predictions like this before 10/27/06.
  8. This is an easy one to answer. Lewis County played uninspired on both offense and defense....It was Senior Night at Riverside (last time these boys are EVER going to dress out in the home blues)...#3 ranked team playing against a team with nothing to lose...Officiating was suspect at times. Not taking anything from Riverside. They came to play.
  9. I don't know if you Camden guys have noticed it or not, but there's a few Waverly people here who like to talk smack. Just thought I would bring it to your attention. You see, they play against the spread. Not the actual score at the end of the game. The spread (established by Lewis County) is 24. Now, if you beat them by 30, they are going to say you really only beat them by 6 because they let you score due to their mistakes...not the skill of the players. And they didn't score enough points due to their own untimely mistakes, not the play of your defense. This thread will have life well into the middle of next week until one of the mods kills it.
  10. Blaker45...If you are a player or in any way associated with the Fairview football program, I wouldn't be worrying myself with Lewis County just yet. Seems there's a beatdown train rolling into Fairview tomorrow night in Purple and White, and you've got a ticket in First Class! It's obvious you hold some hostility towards Lewis County. David Sharp was a beast, no arguments here. However, it could also be argued that Fairview is nothing without those two backs (Cothren (sp) and that other one whose name escapes me at the moment) who played a couple of years ago. You're a heckuva prognosticator. Please enlighten us...How many games have you seen Lewis County or Camden play this year? Don't lie. We'll know. And while I know Don is lurking tonight, I'll ask this question....Why does the Jr. High seem to get more press week in and week out than the High School (excluding stats)? Not taking anything from the jr. high program. Every one of these boys in high school was on that team. It just seems that the #3 ranked team in the state would have more. More details, more pictures, bigger pictures, mention the defense in more than one paragraph, etc. I know that there are time and space constraints and that you have an extra day to write about the jr. high. I also realize that you have nothing to do with the picture situation. If I were visiting from Camden or Alcoa and I picked up the Herald, I would be scratching my head as to why the LCHS Panther football team gets less press than the jr. high does. This puzzles everyone I talk to. And before you offer...NO! I don't want the job!
  11. Wrong. Scoreboard doesn't lie. Move on.
  12. Are you the guy who guaranteed a win for Waverly? News Flash! A moral victory is still a loss. It's funny how you guys come here after the game and start throwing out "if's and buts" like Santa Clause throwing candy off the last float in the Christmas parade. Waverly lost. Lewis County won. Move on. Oh, and Waverly might get a chance to play Lewis County again and try and redeem themselves. Then we'll all get a chance to see if this score was a fluke like all you guys are saying.
  13. The only thing that kept this from being a blowout was the fact that Lewis County jumped out to a 24-0 lead and lifted the throttle. No, the coaches didn't call off the dogs...The players, as they have done all year, reverted back to playing at the level of their competition. They came out a little deflated in the second half. The first half showed what Lewis County was capable of when both the offense and defense were clicking. Do you honestly think that Lewis County is only a TD better than Waverly? Waverly didn't give up. They played hard the whole game. Lewis County only played hard the first half. Apparently, they only needed to play hard the first quarter. As for the turnovers....please tell everyone which ones were unforced. Because, from where I was watching, every turnover was directly due to a Lewis County player making it happen. Collin Lancaster caused two fumbles by hitting the guy carrying the ball hard enough to jar it loose. Interceptions were due to the QB having to get rid of the ball before he wanted to, and Lewis County players being in position to make the play. As for turnovers, you forgot to mention Lewis County's turnovers. We seemed to have a little trouble in that area, too. The difference was that we capitalized off Waverly's turnovers. Waverly couldn't make anything happen when they had the chance. Waverly had only 13 yards total offense in the first half. Kids are kids, and when they go in at the break dominating a team in every facet of the game that was supposed to be a formiddable adversary, then there's going to be a bit of a let-up when they come back to play the second half. There's always two sides to every story. You imply Waverly beat itself. I imply Lewis County had a let-down in the second half. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Usually is. Yes, it was a competitive game. No, it wasn't close. No way can 24 points be considered close, unless you were expecting the beating to be much more severe. Our region has 2 really good teams and one decent team. Waverly is that decent team. Waverly is probably a top 20 team in 2A. That's nothing to be ashamed of. They are a good team with a lot of fight. Lewis County needed to see this type of team because it had been weeks since the starters played in the 4th quarter. Good luck next week against Camden. You'll need it.
  14. Where do I start? Here goes... First....WE didn't bring anything. Someone else did, and you're trying to take the credit. Second...These aren't even Waverly's stats! These stats are for Stratford when they played Hickman County. Please tell everyone what this has to do with anything? Third...You edited the other guy's post to point out the Richland game. Lewis County beat them 34-0. Subs were in with several minutes left. Plus, I dare to say that Richland was much more stoked to play Lewis County than they were to play Waverly. I'm not saying it's going to be an easy game for Lewis County. On the contrary. I think it will be Lewis County's toughest game of the season to this point.
  15. Funny guys. I knew I was going to catch bull when I posted that. I was trying to be kind, but since you Waverly guys insist...What I was implying was that even if Lewis County's defense is off...WAAAAAAAYYYYYY OFF....Waverly is incapable of keeping up with LC's offense. Capish? If you're going to reply with a comeback...bring stats, not excuses.
  16. Well, I hope Lewis County comes out a little (LOT) more fired up this week to begin the game. Having the opposition set the pace every week is not a good habit. The past two games about gave me an ulcer. The defense has been ample, but they haven't been playing offensive powerhouses. Having said that, I think you need to check your predicted score... http://www.coacht.com/inside/schedule.cfm?...amp;SeasonID=51 Only 2 of those TDs came at the hands of the 1st team. The first was due to a fumble on LC's own 4 yard line (Hickman County) and the second was against Stewart County...no good explanation or excuse for that one. To beat Lewis County, Waverly will have to either outscore them or shut them down defensively. Both are pretty tall orders.
  17. You're sure Waverly will have the lead? You do know that Lewis County has one of the best defenses in the state, right? The starters have only had 2 TDs scored on them in 7 games. One of them in the first game against Hickman County as a result of a turnover on their own 4 yard line. LC played a lackluster game against Houston County (worst game of the year) and still managed to run up almost 400 yards. The first half of the Adamsville game was a continuation of last week's Houston County snoozer. The 3rd quarter gave a glimpse of the potential of Lewis County.
  18. Well, it was more of what Lewis County was allowing Adamsville to do than Adamsville having command. So, it's not really accurate to say that LC was "held" to 7 by Adamsville. LC was a different team in the second half. The starters only played the 3rd quarter and about 3 minutes of the 4th and scored 4 TDs. The second string tacked on another one just as soon as they were put in. If LC comes out asleep at the wheel like they have the past two weeks, the game will be tight until they wake up. It just drives all the adults CRAZY watching all that potential on the field going at 60%.
  19. This was a nail-biter in the first half. It was 7-0 at the end of the 2nd quarter. Lewis County has developed a very bad habit of starting slow. This isn't the coaches fault. They try every way possible to make the team mentally ready for the game. The problem is that LC is good, and they know it. The kids know they are the team to beat in the region and have overlooked the last two teams and started out sluggishly, letting a weaker team hang around way too long. If they start out like this against Waverly, they are going to get smacked. Adamsville's D-line OWNED LC's O-line in the first half. There's not really a kind way of putting it. Lewis County needs to start getting in the habit of playing from bell-to-bell with the killer instinct that an undefeated, #3 ranked team should have. I know it sounds odd for me to come here and make these statements after scoring 39 and shutting out the other team, but if you were there, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Everybody just wants the team to play up to their potential and not start the game on cruise control.
  20. Yes, and Jeff Gordon is in NASCAR. I don't know where the midget is. It's called an "example". You know...a similar situation drawn to make a point so that those who can't figure it out on their own, have a diagram by which to navigate. Apparently didn't work as I had intended. There are still people coming here mentioning coaches who have the "fortune" of having good players year in and year out. Mt. Pleasant's coach would definately have to be mentioned. That program was horrible just a few years ago. There was a Mt. Pleasant-to-Lewis County pipeline that has dried up in the past 3 or 4 years due exclusively to Smith's success. No new Mt. Pleasant kids have come to Lewis County since he turned that program around. Camden's coach has to get a mention as well. If there is ever a vote to get rid of this smiley thing I'm going to be the first in line. There are a couple (thousand) of you guys that WEAR THIS THING OUT!
  21. It's hard to tell who has a good coach at the high school level. However, bad ones stick out like a sore thumb. Take Giles County's incredible turnaround for example. For years, Giles had good athletes with no direction. Now, they get a coach and they're winning. Everyone's waiting for the other shoe to drop, but right now they are undefeated. Is this because the new coach is good or is it because the old ones were bad? Probably about 20%-new coach good vs. 80%-old coaches bad. Certain coaches get heralded for being good, even when they have a couple of 6-4 seasons. The coaching style didn't change during those years, nor did the play calling. What changed? Why, the players, of course. Bring Rankin or Satterfield down to Houston County or Adamsville and see how many region championships they win, much less State Championships. Now, before anyone gets all defensive, I'm not dogging Houston County, Adamville, or these two fine coaches. I'm just stating the obvious. It doesn't matter if you're Jeff Gordon...if you're driving an army jeep and a one-eyed midget is driving a Corvette, the midget is going to win every time.
  22. I have absolutely nothing to do with either program, but I do know that Giles County has made a VERY impressive turnaround from the previous years. It's hard for a D2 private to accept getting beaten by a lowly 3A county school. You said it was the officiating, then said that Giles County just wanted it more....which was it?
  23. This was not a very good game for LC. They were flat from start to finish. It was one of those games where you are suprised to see the score is what it is because it felt much closer. But, hey....a win is a win. The bright spots were the screen passes from TJ to Chris. Chuck Dodson and Harley Deline played a good game. The defense approached the game like a Tuesday practice. Other factors were on the player's minds, I'm sure.
  24. Hmmmm....seems like it's a bit early to start making predictions on this game. Lots can happen between now and then. As I remember, last year Camden had a team that was a good 21 point favorite on paper, was playing at home, and could smell their first region championship. But a funny thing happened on the way to the awards ceremony. LC had 3 defensive starters out for that game. I know Wilbanks was out for Camden, but he did play. This years LC team is much better than last years team. Everyone associated with LC is aware that Camden plays the same region team LC played the week before. Everyone knows that Camden is getting to watch LC on game film every week because of this. Everyone also knows that LC has a bye week before the Camden game. That bye week made the difference last year. Predict away. And, papatiger...Waverly will get its chance soon enough. So be patient. No need to hijack LC threads because you don't feel Waverly is getting enough respect. You've got Montgomery Central and Riverside before you get a shot at LC. So you should come into the LC game 5-1. I smell a visit by Rudy Kalis for that game.
  25. I touched on this last year. Tackle totals are INSANE at some schools. Apparently, they are giving everyone who crawls off the pile a tackle. I've personally witnessed some of these supposed "high-teen" tackle total games at the school I follow, and I just don't see them. When a kid is wrapped up and is on his way down, there's your tackle right there. The MLB or any other player shouldn't get credit for "finishing him off". It's kind of like shooting someone who just jumped off a 50 story building. The result is the same, with or without the "help". Here's the thread... http://boards.coacht.com/index.php?showtopic=114397&hl=
