  1. Wartburg is about 85 miles north on Hwy 27 after you get off Hwy 153 just South of Soddy Daisy. First let me say the game is played and won on the field... so no haters... Just giving you the numbers. In a comparison of teams who played teams that both played and that result… The range is... Wartburg by 9 to Boyd-Buchanan by 25. If you were going to put a line on it... the line would likely be Boyd-Buchanan by 10.
  2. With what I read today about last night's game... If the TSSAA does what it should Wartburg should be playing without some starters. From Knoxville News Sentinel Co. "With 3:56 remaining in the fourth quarter, several players from both teams got into an altercation, which quickly turned into a sidelines-clearing brawl that involved players and coaches. Several coaches tried to restrain players and found themselves in the line of fire as a few helmets were thrown. At least seven security guards/police officers had to break up the fighting. At least one Oliver Springs player was removed from the field by a police officer. After the fighting was stopped, the referees and coaches had a 5-7 minute discussion. A few minutes later, the game was called. Shoemaker said that there were no ejections and that suspensions could be forthcoming from the TSSAA." 3. Congrats to Riverside. If this team is a young as we are hearing then you have the next few years to look at being in the state for baseball and likely winning.
  4. Weather delay... Decatur Co. is home team. The game was delayed going into the bottom of the second. No score. Bucs have sent the minimum to the plate. In the bottom of the first Riverside had two base runners off an error and a walk they were left on first and third.
  5. When a nerve is hit one gets a strong reaction... Sounds like you pretty much agree with me... 3 to 5 on merit and the rest based on other factors. Those are the ones who play based on ties. It is human nature. You may be the exception as a coach. Also, I am not talking about who gets cut. I am talking about the player who is statistically better but not a no doubter. As I said the bashers are a little harsh. And there is no specific slam of Coach Reese from me... Just a general assessment of what I have been around for years... If you are not a "no doubter" and not so bad you get cut... Some connection can go a long way.
  6. Of course looking at the fact that 16 of Decatur Co. Riverside 35 tournament hits came in the first game against Harriman... helps soften their big numbers: Blake Grace c .429 Brandon McFall 1b .333 Jase Taylor cf .571 Josh Keen 2b-p .455 Ryne Bivens 3b .556 Ryne Fisher .333 Stephen Gant .444 Will Crawley .556 These were pulled form the game summaries on www.tssaa.org and plugged into a spread sheet.
  7. If Boyd-Buchanan plays like they did today it could be a blow out. Let's hope that is out of there system. Clearly 8 errors against Decatur Co. Riverside will likely get them run ruled. They also need for their bats to wake up. According to the games posted on the TSSAA web page they only have 3 hitters batting over .300 for the tournament and that is hitters 8, 9 and 2 in the line up. So far the high octane offense they have had all year has sputtered along just doing enough to get the job done. The defense was solid in the first two games but fell completely apart today. If the offense shows up and the defense gets back to how they started the tournament... the Bucs have a chance... However, anyone who does not have them as the underdog is speaking from their heart and not their head.
  8. It was ugly... really really ugly. However, going into the top of the 7th the bucs had 9 1 2 coming up and it was gut check time. Here is the play by play for the TSSAA page. in the bottom of 7th the first strike out was looking not swinging. The only called curve 3rd strive all game. In the top of the 7th the "Peace out at second 2b to ss" below was a blown. The ball was flipped to the ss and it rolled up his forearm and out of his glove onto the ground. He never controlled it and the ump awarded the out and said he dropped it trying to take it out of his glove. Boyd Buchanan 7th - Smith singled to shortstop. Allen singled to center field; Smith advanced to second. Garner walked; Allen advanced to second; Smith advanced to third. Peace pinch ran for Garner. Melton to 3b. Hurley to ss. Replogle to p for McArthur. Odom to lf for Replogle. Crowe, M. reached on a fielder's choice; Peace out at second 2b to ss; Allen advanced to third; Smith scored. Crowe, M. stole second. McCalla flied out to lf, SF, RBI; Allen scored. Crowe, A. reached on an error by ss, advanced to second on the throw; Crowe, M. scored, unearned. Ferguson flied out to cf. 3 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 LOB. Adamsville 7th - Garner to p for Peace. Chappell walked. Sinclair pinch ran for Chappell. Hurley singled to left field; Sinclair advanced to second. Replogle struck out swinging. Odom struck out swinging. Hammock walked; Hurley advanced to second; Sinclair advanced to third. Erwin flied out to cf. 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 3 LOB. Score by Innings R H E ----------------------------------------- Boyd Buchanan....... 000 300 3 - 6 6 8 Adamsville.......... 210 101 0 - 5 7 3 Yes that is really 8 errors. The bucs played the worst defensive game all year and still won. On top of really poor defense we had a plate umpire that seems to have never seen a curve ball. The curve is Garners out pitch and there were at least 4 that should have been called strike three. He got one all game and it was in the 7th. The earned run score was 2 to 1 Bucs.
  9. Congrats on the win. It is going to be exciting. Being in the final 4 is special. Boyd-Buchanan has a special incentive to take the next step. Tonight after two 10 min OT periods and two 5 minute OT periods the Boyd-Buchanan soccer team won the shoot out and match 3 to 2 and are in the championship game. Adamsville would not want to spoil Boyd-Buchanan having two teams in a championship game would they? I know Adamsville would like nothing better.
  10. Boyd-Buchanan did steal one from you. The coaches were quoted in the Chattanooga paper before the tournament started as saying they really don't have a number one pitcher... any one of 4 or 5 could be the ace... and that is kind of true. However, most will tell you that you did not see the number 1 in the start and even at that what you did see did not have his best game and was left in too long. Adamsville hitting had his number as you have pointed out. The Boyd-Buchanan coaching staff made a gut call to leave him in when he kept slipping off the hook. thinking they would do it with the bats... whoever makes it to the game tomorrow will a face all they want in a pitcher. Boyd also left 10 runners on base... and had a, normally very productive, clean up hitter go 0 for 4. If there is a down fall for the Bucs it will likely be in their inability to play small ball or at least the fact that the coaches do not play it. In their defense it is hard to have someone bunt someone over when there is a good possibility of a hit or home run. I am not sure just hitting away will take them all the way, but it has taken them a long way so far because of all the bullets dodged in that first game.
  11. Friendship Christian got thumped and has an up hill battle to get out of their bracket. Decatur Co. has 10 run ruled their way into the bracket championship.
  12. Boardbat was a little harsh, but: I have no “kin” that have played for Red Bank, but I have been around Chattanooga baseball and high school baseball for many years. I have not seen many high school coaches put the best players on the field with the best chance to win. There is always some political motivation for some who get to play. The difference between the better player that sits and the one that gets to play based on other factors may not be that much, but in high school ball you have to be able to play and you have to be connected. Very few teams have nine standout starters. The 3 to 5 that are… will play. It is when you get to the next level of talent where the political or other connection enters the decision. Ah life...
  13. My guess is... you have only one... Walk... walk... walk... to walk in the winning run on three walks in a row (yes one was an intl) tells me the coach felt that he had to stay with this guy and had no one else that he thought could come in and throw strikes.
  14. When you drop down from AA to A and have 9 good starting seniors then it would just about be embarrassing to lose to a A team that usually carry about 4 or5 seniors, and not all of them are starters. So I don't think that anyone is surprised that Boyd made it to State. Good Luck! Let's remember Boyd-Buchanan is now back as a single A team. They have never been anything but a single A team. No change in enrollment, but a TSSAA knee jerk reaction to some coaches who could not win in football pushed a school with just over 300 enrollment up to 2A in all sports. When they had a chance to really look at how unfair it was they changed it. These guys might have been here last year if the classification had been correct all along. Oh and BBS starts one Junior... but still lots of shoes to fill for next year.
  15. Easy Bracket? You did notice 8 to 7 winning by not just a "walk off" walk, but 3 walks with 2 out... Double, Int Walk, Walk and walk. Adamsville just ran out of pitching today. Very tough for them they played great game and just had some bad luck in the end.
  16. What you say is true. However, coacht does not have all the games and therefore the rank is a flawed number. There is no doubt that Boyd-Buchanan come out of what seems to be a soft Dist/Region. I tried to find some schools to compare, but really only found Marion County. They did not make it to the region games. They played Eagleville to a 4 to 4 tie and only lost to Decatur Co. 2 to 0. Marion County thumped Oliver Springs 13 - 2. Harriman only beat Oliver Springs 5 to 3. So according to coacht all the other regions are so much better than Region 3 yet a team that did not even make it out of the district either won or play very close with teams in other regions. The good news for all is that it is not decided on coacht and I guess like any other statistic one can find what is needed to support a position in the coacht numbers. I was trying to give an objective overview of the teams. We will know tonight!
  17. Looking at the info on Coacht. Since this is the single A tournament it would seem that is the most important game info would be single A games. Friendship Christian does not seem to have lost to a single A team. Dist Tour 3 – 0 scoring 33 and giving up 3 Region and Sectional 3 – 0 scoring 27 and giving up 1 Nashville Christian seems to have lost 6 single A games. Dist Tour ??? 4 -1 not sure what is going on in coacht for that Region and Sectional 2 – 1 scoring 9 and giving up 10. Boyd-Buchanan In all single A games they had 16 wins in coacht and I know that does not include 2 wins against Grace. They have not lost to a single A team. They have outscored single A opponents 163 to 24. (not counting the 2 missing Grace games) Reg Season games 10 – 0 scoring 105 runs and giving up 8 DIST Tour. 3 – 0 scoring 27 giving up 0. Region and Sectional 3 – 0 scoring 31 and giving up 16 (The pitchers struggled in two of these games giving up about 9 walks and hit batters and most scored) Eagleville has lost 4 single A and played close Region and sectional games. Hancock has little information on coacht. Adamsville shows a losing record on Coacht. They did thump Douglass… that is the only game on coacht for Douglass. Decatur Co. Riverside looks to have lost only 2 single A games. Dist 3 – 0 scoring 28 and giving up 7 Region and sectional 3 – 0 scoring 41 and giving up 4 (30 – 0 in a game against Westwood… Westwoods only game in coacht ) Harriman seems to have lost 5 single A games and played close through all district and region/sectional games. So… of the known: Frindship Christian and Boyd-Buchanan have yet to lose a single A game. Decatur Co. Riverside has only lost 2 single A games. Eagleville has lost 4 single A games Harriman has only lost 5 single A games. Nashville Christian has only lost 6 single A games. There is not enough information to know about Adamsville and Hancock. So, one of them may be the “dark horse” that wins it all. I think the final 4 will be Friendship Christian, Decatur Co. Riverside, Eagleville and Boyd-Buchanan. I am guessing Friendship Christian and Boyd-Buchanan playing on Friday this is all based on past history, but... as has been said... any given day any given team... and there is a reason why they play the game. However they got here... everyone got here and it is all about what you do going forward.
  18. The Boyd-Buchannan Bucs have been very impressive in their run to get to the state. Their seemingly lack-luster 6 to 3 win over Monterey would be the only thing that looks negative in that run. However, when one considers the fact that Boyd was playing without their number one homerun hitter, who was in Florida for the funeral of his grandfather, this score can be taken in context. More than just removing his offense the juggling of defense positions could be argued to be the reason Monterey was on the board at all. (This is not intended to be a bash of Monterey they had a wonderful year to get as far as they did) In the game the normal second baseman was move to left field to replace the normal left fielder. The normal catcher, who had not played an inning of defense at second base, was moved to second base. The backup catcher, who had maybe 10 innings of work this year, was inserted at catcher. How did these defensive changes affect the game? The first run for Monterey came after a passed ball allowed the runner to get into scoring position. He would not have scored without this (yes I know that the starting catcher could have missed it too but not much has gotten by him this year) the run also came in on a sac fly. The play at the plate was close and we have seen a number of runners gunned down at the plate by the outfield this year so who knows if the starting catcher would have been more comfortable getting the ball and placing the tag. The throw was there in time. The other 2 runs came in after a routine play at second should have yielded the third out. After dropping the ball a throwing error was added to the play when an attempt to get the hitter at first sailed high. Another throwing error to third would have given up a run but the leftfielder was in place to back up the throw from first. So, instead of coming in to bat the bucs were left on the field with two runners in scoring position. As it always seems to happen the next batter got a hit to centerfield scoring the 2 runs. (Even here the second run was cut down by the throw from the outfield, but the catcher was unable to hold on to the ball.) This is not to bash anyone in the Buc’s defense; in fact, these three guys did a great job under the circumstances. Everyone in the stands felt for these three guys who were, not only dealing with the stress of being on the brink of the first State Championship Tournament birth in school history, but dealing with playing in a position that they were not at all comfortable playing. These three, even with the miscues, clearly played an outstanding game. As for the offense, the usually productive top three were a combined 1-for-11, hitters four through nine were on base 12 times. The Bucs left the bases loaded at least twice. Once they were loaded with only 1 out and the Bucs failed to score. So, to some degree, the hearts and minds of the Bucs were with their teammate in the lose of his grandfather. Were some of them pressing to hard to try and overcome the loss of one of the team’s top offensive weapons? One will never know. What we do know is; for the first time in school history the Bucs have advanced to the State Tournament. We know they will be playing next week at full force and no matter what happens they are one of the top eight single A teams in the state.
  19. Well they turned the scoreboard off pretty quick... but LV scored the first run in the bottom of the 1st. Bucs tied it up in the top of the second. Bucs went up 4 to 1 in the top of third. LV up 5 to 4 in the bottom of 3rd. I think in the bottom of the 4th LV up 7 to 4 bucs go up 8 to 7 in top of 5th and add 3 in top of 6 and 5 more in top of 7. That is from memory and may not be exact but it is close. Bucs starting pitching gave up some walks that hurt but still did a pretty good job. Tmac and Garner hit homeruns for BBS it seems like maybe there was another that I am leaving out. I think #21 hit one for LV. Haden Meadows blasted a bases loaded double that was very big at the time. LV started the 7th with back to back hits. Then the bucs turned a double play (they rolled double plays in the last inning of the last two games) I think the last out was a strike out. Eric did a great job coming in in the 4th or 5th. Both teams played good defense maybe a couple of errors each with LV maybe one more than BBS. BBS just hits the ball all they way through the line up. 8 of the 9 normal starters have now hit at least one homerun this year.
  20. Thank you for the post. It shows class. My point in the earlier post was that it was a ballgame except of the turnovers and with better protection of the football the score would have been much closer. I know turnovers are part of the game. The post was, as it said, for folks not at the game. Go RAMS! We hope to be able to say the only 2A team that Boyd lost to was the state champions!
  21. Tyner rolls 49-15??? Yes. Tyner wins 49 – 15. However, you must be trying to convince the rest of the state, who will only know what they read, that Tyner rolled. First CONGRATULATIONS to the Tyner Rams on the win and represent us well next week. Now for those who were not at the game; here is how “Tyner Rolled” Boyd Buchanan gave away the ball 5 times resulting in 21 short field points for Tyner, another 7 from just beyond the 50 and stopping one sure touchdown for Boyd. So the point swing from turnovers was 35 points and who knows what Boyd may have been able to do offensively if they had not had the turnovers. But for turnovers… The half time score would have likely been Boyd 21 Tyner 14 instead of Tyner 22 Boyd 15. Boyd did not just shoot themselves in the foot… They blew both feet completely off their body. Tyner may have caused 2 of the 5 turnovers, but the rest were simply dropped. The game includes turnovers and all those points count, but without them the game is much closer.
  22. To the lowly little buc team… You have no chance in this game… there is really no reason to play… but wait… that is what was said about Smith Co. So, go and give it your all. Tyner is a great team and it will take a stellar performance to win, but it can be done. Even if you don’t win… Walk of that field with your head held high. There are no losers after you make it to the quarter finals and are one of eight teams left standing. From here on out there are just good teams that don’t advance. When you are compared to previous teams that made it to the big dance in 1A, Remember they had no where near the schedule that you have had or in the case of Gordon Lee the pitiful officiating. 6 loss season Gordon Lee – Down on the 3 yard line… should have been a win. Baylor DIV II AAA team that made it to the semifinals Cookeville 5A team that is in the Qtr finals and still playing Red Bank 4A team that made it to the second round Fulton 3A team that made it to the second round Tyner 2A team that is in the Qtr finals and still playing We are proud of what you have accomplished… anything more is just extra icing… Of course icing is good… GO BUC’S!
