  1. Pretty evenly matched game. Oakland had 272 yards - all on the ground. Franklin had 278 yards, 129 rushing and 149 passing. Oakland ran about 60 +/- offensive plays, to about 30 something for Franklin. Time of possession was won by Oakland something like 29 minutes to 19 minutes. Franklin turned the ball over twice, and Oakland had a touchdown called back because of a penalty. I believe Oakland had 15 first downs and Franklin had 13. Congratulations to both teams on great seasons.
  2. WOW! After winning the state championship twice, and now making their 5th trip to the title game, Oakland is "Cinderella". I hope we can even just stay on the same field with you.
  3. I LOVE THE ANNOUNCER AT OAKLAND!!! I expect all announcers to be homers, and Roger does a great job. The guy we had before was so bad that he would often mis-pronounce our own Head Coach's name. Marty Euverard would be called Marty Everard. Having your own PA announcer rev up the crowd during moments of excitement is part of the home field advantage. The only rules should be: 1 No talking during the play. 2 No music or artificial noise during the play, (however, the band playing is fair game). 3 No questioning or criticism of the officials. 4 No criticism of the players or coaches of either team. Between the whistles, cheer on the home team as much as you can!
  4. So what does Oakland's injury report look like? Will Schaller play? Is the kid who injured his knee out for a while? I'm having to work in Brazil for several weeks now, and am trying to keep up any way I can. I actually got to hear the WGNS webcast from the Riverdale game and the webcast from Coffee County, but apparently will get nothing this week, as WGNS is elsewhere. keep me postged guys!!
  5. Okay, what's the scoop on this game? Has Lavergne rebounded from their opening week loss? What are their strengths/weaknesses? Has anyone heard how severe the injured the Oakland players are? Who will be the first and second QB going into the game this Friday?
  6. Thanks guys. Good luck with the rest of your season.
  7. Thanks guys. Good luck with the rest of your season.
  8. Hey Coffee County fans, congratulations on the win! I'm an Oakland fan and excited about the matchup next Friday, but am working out of the country for a few months. I was able to hear the Oakland Riverdale game over the Internet last night, but the Murfreesboro station is carrying one of the other teams next week. Can any of you tell me the radio station that covers the Red Raiders and do you know if they do a web cast? Thanks!!
  9. What a fantastic game. I am so upset that I could not be there. I'm working out of the country for most of football season, and am already missing it. Thanks to WGNS for the internet broadcast, so at least I got to hear about it real time. Now someone convince them to cover more Oakland games and I'll be all set. It's only one game, but it sets a higher expectation. I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about how Riverdal beat themselves with the turnovers, but it goes right back to Coah McDaniel's statement in the paper earlier this week, paraphrased, "We won't do anything fancy, but we will do the basics well." They did the basics well, including blocking, tackling and taking care of the ball. Now I just need to figure out if Coffee county has a radio broadcast that is on the net for next Friday. Tchau, Tchau from Brazil.

PJ Polk was cleated somehow in a freak tackle at Lavergne. It cut his upper arm in a bout a 3-4 inch gash that went all the way to the bone. He is stitched up and I'm told will not play tonight. I'll be cooking those hotdogs in a couple of hours. Judging from the posts here, we might need to put on some extra ones. GP
  11. I was sitting right in front of the last play of the game. The ball actually did hit someone's hand, thus starting the clock. There still might have been half a second left on the clock though. The refs certainly made up for it in the second game.
  12. Greg Peck's father is Paul Peck, former AD and Head Basketball coach at Cumberland University. Coach Peck accepted a similar position last year at Lindsey-Wilson (SP?) University in Kentucky. They moved up there last Christmas. He was at the Lincoln Co. Game the other night. I don't remember the high school Greg attends, but they were 5-0 at the time. He and his father were visiting here during fall break.
  13. Regarding the back to back home field discussion. Oakland was the home team in 2000 and 2001. The 2000 game was at MTSU as always. Oakland chose to hold the 2001 game at MTSU, even though our field was ready, in order to accomodate the large crowds we were accostomed to, (20,000 in the playoff matchup). The reason for the back to back scheduling is a little murky to me. It seems that the agreement is to alternate who gets home first in a two year deal. 2002 was the end of the previous 2 year deal and 2003 is the first year of the new 2 year deal. Oaklnad will be home in 2004, (the end of the current two year deal), and also home in 2005, (the beginning of a new 2 year deal). Look for the first Riverdale and Oakland game to be held at Oakland in the second round of this year's playoffs when Oakland wins the region this year.
  14. Say on the road in front of the new walmart. it will change from Rutherford blvd into Northfield Blvd. Turn right at highway 96East, by Shell, Exxon and Food Lion. Oakland is about a mile down on the left.
  15. If you can find the new Walmart on Rutherford Blvd, just keep going past it. Rutherford blvd changes to Northfield Blvd. Stay on Northfield till you get to Highway 96 East, It's a right turn by Shell, Exxon and Food Lion. Oakland is about a mile down on the left.
  16. I have seen a lot of people not familier with Murfreesboro and Rutherford County ask about Siegal's losing streak, Oakland's roster size etc., so I thought I would put it in perspective. Three years ago there were 4 high school football teams in Rutherford county: Oakland, Riverdale, Smyrna and Lavergne. Oakland and Riverdale were the two largest schools in the state with about 2500 students each. In the three years since then, Blackman opened, Siegal opened and Eagleville started playing. So now there are 7 high schools in Rutherford county playing football. The talent pool is still there, but it is becoming diluted by being spread out so thin. Oakland now has about 1400 students. I think Riverdale has about 1700. Siegal was built about 3 miles from Oakland causing untold zoning issues, especially with Oakland students. Siegal is young this year but will be pretty good in the next couple of years. Oakland is senior dominated this year but will be very young next year. I expect the rapid population growth of the county, (first in Tennessee, nationally ranked), will have all seven schools loaded with talent in the next 5 years. Of course by then we will have built at least 1, maybe 2 new schools and start the process all over again.
  17. Keep on predicting those big lop-sided scores. It makes our defense hungry!!
  18. The Murfreesboro Jamboree died when all county schools landed in the same region. No coach was willing to play a scrimmage against a region opponent that they would face later in the year when it counted for a playoff spot. Besides, for some reason that is unknown to me, Coaches tend to hate the jamborees.

They will have mostly sophomores with a few upper classmen. It is a very talented group of sophomores, so look out next year, byt I believe they will struggle this year. I can't tell you what offense or defense they will run, but their head coach is the former offensive coordinator for Blackman and a good one at that.
  20. Sorry for the delay, but I havn't been online a lot lately. Yes I am an Oakland fan. They scrimage Father Ryan and CPA today at 9:00 am and again around 1:00-2:00 pm today. Hopefully I'll get out to see some of that this afternoon. They look pretty good so far but do not have large numbers of players on the team. I saw a few ice packs moving around the campus last night, bu so far there have been no serious injuries. The one player who is out right now is recovering from Mono, (Brandon Demers). He's an 3 year starter so as soon as he gets back in the flow, it should make and impact.
  21. I heard CJ got a call from the coach at Siegal who asked him to come over there and play QB. Don't know if it is true or not, but I heard it this week.
