  1. oakland will win by 10-14 points, but the game won't be that close. Oakland does not score a lot each quarter, but they take the whole quarter to score. Riverdale can't score unless they can get Oakland's offense off the field.
  2. Yes, that same Mt Juliet team that stomped hendersonville. You remember them, right?
  3. The Wildcat is nothing but the Shotgun formation with a faster QB.
  4. Another of my favorite exceptions, The Fumblerooski, or as the called it in that Classic Sports Film, "The Little Giants", The Annexation of Puerto Rico.
  5. Any play in which the ball is handled by more than two people. The QB always hands off to a runner, or throws to a receiver. If that runner or receiver in turn gets the ball to a third player, (or back to the QB), I would call it a trick play. You can come up with exceptions like Tackle-eligible, but this definitation covers most of them.
  6. At that playoff game in 98, there were over 20,000 people there. If anywhere near that many show up Friday, it could get ugly - off the field! Oakland 17, Riverdale 7.
  7. Time to move past round 1 and get ready for round two. Cookeville guys, are you ready to bring it?
  8. Hey, I'm just saying.... In all reality, MJ's offense was good enough to win the game, but their team wasn't good enough. We've heard enough about how great Oakland's defense is, but half of that is that the other team can't score if they can't get the ball back.
  9. Our fumble on the 15 in the first half, makes up for your dropped pass in the end zone. Before you complain too much about the officiating, you might want to check the stats. I beleive Oakland got as many questionable calls as MJ and probably had more total penalty yards. You wanted to beat Oakland. All you had to do was stop us and take the ball away, but you could not do it when it counted. Oakland doesn't score often, but they score slowly. I'm anxious to see the time of possesion stat. My estimation is that Oakland held the ball for about 2/3rds of the 2nd half. Having said that MJ has some great skill players. Are the QB and receivers seniors?
  10. I, for one, am tired of hearing how great Oakland's defense is. the last time we were reading all about how they were the next coming of the Steel Curtain, Riverdal marched the ball up and down the field on us. I'm sure Mt Juliet is reading all this and thinking that they are getting no respect at all, and nothing motivates like disrespect. Mt Juliet is 9-1 for a reason, and anything can happen in the playoffs. It's a brand new season. Every team has something to prove, whether it is to prove that they belong here, that they earned their 9-1 record or that they have a really good defense. I'm excited about the matchup, and am glad that we don't have to travel very far. In fact, as bad as Oakland's field looked last Friday, I'm glad we will be tearing up someone else's turf. So, Mt Juliet group, What kind of shape is your field in? And to tag on to Mr Hornsby's post, tell us about your team. Who are the leaders? What was the best game you guys played this year? What was the worst? Closest? Anyway, there is no better time of year than this. Hard to believe it will be over in 5 weeks.
  11. Anybody know anything about this Christian County team. I hear they are pretty highly ranked in the state of Kentucky.
  12. I'll say it again. We love our announcer. I like it when they play the Mayberry theme. I liked it when they played Love Train when Precious Valentine scored. I don't care if they announce the opposing players. Having done a few Central games int he past, i know how hard that can be, and if I want to know that much, I'll buy a program. I'll listen to your bad announcers, your band, your student's obnoxious cheers without complaint, but when we play at home, I'll take my homer over yours any day of the week.
  13. Enough with bashing Oakland's PA anouncer. He is a homer and I love him for it. He does a great job at it. the last guy at Oakland would mis-pronounce Euverard, (he would sometimes call him Everard). I'll listen to your band, your ceasless senior night, your homer announcer without complaint. Announcers at all levels, including the NFL, make ti clear who they are for during the course of their call of the game. If the announcer doesn't have a little cheer leader in him, you might as well get the speech teacher to do it.
  14. Two interceptions and two fumbles, all by Oakland inside the MJ 30 yard line. Sounds like Oakland will be working on controlling the turnovers this week.
  15. Pretty evenly matched game. Oakland had 272 yards - all on the ground. Franklin had 278 yards, 129 rushing and 149 passing. Oakland ran about 60 +/- offensive plays, to about 30 something for Franklin. Time of possession was won by Oakland something like 29 minutes to 19 minutes. Franklin turned the ball over twice, and Oakland had a touchdown called back because of a penalty. I believe Oakland had 15 first downs and Franklin had 13. Congratulations to both teams on great seasons.
  16. WOW! After winning the state championship twice, and now making their 5th trip to the title game, Oakland is "Cinderella". I hope we can even just stay on the same field with you.
  17. I LOVE THE ANNOUNCER AT OAKLAND!!! I expect all announcers to be homers, and Roger does a great job. The guy we had before was so bad that he would often mis-pronounce our own Head Coach's name. Marty Euverard would be called Marty Everard. Having your own PA announcer rev up the crowd during moments of excitement is part of the home field advantage. The only rules should be: 1 No talking during the play. 2 No music or artificial noise during the play, (however, the band playing is fair game). 3 No questioning or criticism of the officials. 4 No criticism of the players or coaches of either team. Between the whistles, cheer on the home team as much as you can!
  18. So what does Oakland's injury report look like? Will Schaller play? Is the kid who injured his knee out for a while? I'm having to work in Brazil for several weeks now, and am trying to keep up any way I can. I actually got to hear the WGNS webcast from the Riverdale game and the webcast from Coffee County, but apparently will get nothing this week, as WGNS is elsewhere. keep me postged guys!!
  19. Okay, what's the scoop on this game? Has Lavergne rebounded from their opening week loss? What are their strengths/weaknesses? Has anyone heard how severe the injured the Oakland players are? Who will be the first and second QB going into the game this Friday?
  20. Thanks guys. Good luck with the rest of your season.
  21. Thanks guys. Good luck with the rest of your season.
  22. Hey Coffee County fans, congratulations on the win! I'm an Oakland fan and excited about the matchup next Friday, but am working out of the country for a few months. I was able to hear the Oakland Riverdale game over the Internet last night, but the Murfreesboro station is carrying one of the other teams next week. Can any of you tell me the radio station that covers the Red Raiders and do you know if they do a web cast? Thanks!!
  23. What a fantastic game. I am so upset that I could not be there. I'm working out of the country for most of football season, and am already missing it. Thanks to WGNS for the internet broadcast, so at least I got to hear about it real time. Now someone convince them to cover more Oakland games and I'll be all set. It's only one game, but it sets a higher expectation. I'm sure there will be a lot of talk about how Riverdal beat themselves with the turnovers, but it goes right back to Coah McDaniel's statement in the paper earlier this week, paraphrased, "We won't do anything fancy, but we will do the basics well." They did the basics well, including blocking, tackling and taking care of the ball. Now I just need to figure out if Coffee county has a radio broadcast that is on the net for next Friday. Tchau, Tchau from Brazil.
