  1. Those were the days during and immediately following Terry Odle.
  2. This will always be an issue. Hopefully, most coaches use wisdom when it comes to pitch count. By this point in the year, getting up to 120-130 pitches might be OK if the pitcher has had and will receive the proper rest between starts and if he has built up to that point. I would be more concerned with pitchers who are thrown every 3-4 days. I saw the Jackson Sun today where the McPherson kid at JCM pitched again yesterday after throwing one of their district games against Brighton on Monday. What's going on there?
  3. Reaching base by an error does not help OBP - it's a good debate on whether or not it should - but it currently does not.
  4. What's funny is, Fayette Academy and Middleton are virtually guaranteed to go to the region since their district only has two teams who try to field a baseball team. Up the road, district 14 (I think) has 10 teams all of whom field baseball teams and many of which have been to the regionals in the past four or five years. Single A baseball in West TN is weird.
  5. I looked back and do not see where I called names at all, but I do not hope feelings were hurt. It would be better were this thread treated as a joke, like "wouldn't it be silly if. . ." or "how crazy would it be. . ." instead of the seriousness in which the original post were written.
  6. I need a little help. I looked everywhere for the "code of conduct" to which you are referring and couldn't locate it. Please provide me with a link so I can be so informed. Posting profane or sexually explicit material or calling out teenagers by name with the intent of running them through the mud should probably be prohibited. Being a jerk because I think a post is an example of idiocy is much different.
  7. This is not a fun topic. How about these: The pitcher should get TWO wins when he throws a shutout. A grand slam should get 5 RBIs, just because it's really cool. If a player makes a spectacular play within three innings of an error, then the error is erased from his stats. Get a new topic.
  8. I think that this is a ludicrous notion apparently suggested by someone with no appreciation for the integrity or history of this great game. A HBP or walk does help your on base percentage, because you reached base. How can it reasonably be used to enhance your BATTING average when you never actually used the BAT?
  9. I've heard this whisper through the hills this season as well. I haven't seen the Cavs yet, so I won't pass judgement. However, the rumor mills (take them for what they are) say they yell and scream from the dugout, demean opposing players, and have had players tossed from games this year. New coach, so is that the issue?
  10. According to the Commercial Appeal, they played a doubleheader in Brighton yesterday. Brighton won both games, 12-1 and 14-2 were the scores.
  11. Both these teams are talented and should represent 14AA in the region -- can't we all just get along?
  12. If we're talking West TN, there are several programs that stick out this year. Region 7 Huntingdon Halls Humboldt Union City Peabody McKenzie Region 8 Adamsville Middleton JCS Any two of these could end up in Murfreesboro. I think all would agree that Huntingdon is clearly a favorite however.
  13. Bartlett. The conversation begins and ends there.
  14. You know, I tried to stay away from responding to this thread. . .but, then came this post. First, they will not play 50 games. The TSSAA says 32 is the limit (going down next year) - you can squeeze in a few extra by playing in the right tournaments (they count as three games) during the season. There is no way on Earth they will even win 18 games, much less 30. To respond to earlier posts on this thread about them winning more this season, let's take a look at a tough AAA schedule: Class A Teams - Madison (2), Dresden (2), West Carroll (2), and Humboldt (2) Class AA Teams - Gibson Co., Westview (2), Covington, Liberty (2), Crockett Co., Haywood, North Side, and South Side Class AAA Teams (schools NOT smaller than you) - Munford (2), Hardin Co. (2), and Brighton (2) - all are in your district. Your A and AA opponents aren't exactly cream of the crop and you don't play any AAA games outside district. Stop getting so excited about a nothing team.
  15. John Decker at TBCA will do rankings probably beginning the first week in April. He keeps those at tbca.org
  16. Sain has no outside game? Are you joking? Granted, he's not a constant deep threat, but he can knock down the three and is constantly improving his game. He is a definite D-I prospect. To answer another question, he and Derek (at Humboldt) ARE half brothers and do not live in the same house (I have a good source here). Nothing fishy or illegal. Sniff somewhere else.
  17. Congrats to the Red Devils on a fast start. Let me know when you're not playing Greenfield, Bruceton Clarksburg, Dresden, Gleason, or any other baseball powerhouse.
  18. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> Now that's a funny observation!
  19. Which also brings up a great point. Does Coach Liggett not want the job? She would know all the girls and I'm sure she would have their respect after such success at the Jr. High level.
  20. I agree. This post is a little silly. So some dads (or fans, or whatever) have gotten on here and talked up a few players from McKenzie. It doesn't make them better baseball players and it also doesn't make any college coaches outside of Bethel's 10-man coaching staff sit up and take notice. You starting a thread to call out and make fun of kids is ridiculous. If you don't like what they post, then stop clicking on threads about McKenzie.
  21. The only way the umpire can call him "out" on this is if he rules the pitch was in the strike zone with two strikes, thereby being a strikeout. Any other scenario and the pitch is simply a ball or strike - he cannot be called out on that.
  22. This looks like where I need to be on Friday. Who are the Dogs and Tigers pitching in this one? I notice where Milan has a tough week with district games Mon/Tues, a decent (but not great) Humboldt team on Thurs and then the Tigers. Lexington has Scotts Hill and Gibson Co., so could throw their ace.
  23. I am often wrong in my thinking, so thanks for printing the rule. Not trying to correct, just curious.
  24. How in the world does a pitcher get credit for a save when: 1) He only pitched one inning and his team won by eight runs, and 2) He didn't even close the game!! This is puzzling. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
