  2. I'm excited that we actually have a "chance" this week instead of preparing for the usual beating. I looked up past scores last night and saw the following margins of victory by UC in the last 10 games of this series: 24, 21, 50, 57, 64, 56, 47, 55, 35 and 29. Needless to say the last two years have been much closer than the usual 50+ point losses. Those are hard to swallow. Last week was the most fun I've had following Halls in quite a few years. It was the most points we've scored in probably 15 years and there's nothing like being on the winning end of a 36-point blowout. Those don't come our way too often. I think Halls has a "chance" if we can just overlook that mystique of Union City. Sometimes I think the guys look at the schedule and think, "oh crap it is XXXXXX this week." We have to start learning to win sometime. This is the third straight year for us to start 2-0. Sure, we aren't playing Obion or Wayne County, but you have to start somewhere. The last two years we haven't fallen through with those starts; instead we've seen 4-6 and 2-8 to end the year. 3-0 sounds pretty nice and would start to give these guys the confidence they need to get over the hump. We are still a very young team playing lots of juniors and sophomores, so starting to win now bodes well for the next few years. We ran for over 400 yards last week against Rosemark. We only passed five times, but why pass when you can run all over the other team? We have the capability to throw the ball and I would be surprised if we don't "attempt" to throw it 30 times this week. We have a couple big receivers with pretty good hands and as GCPioneer stated our quarterback has a good arm but he too is still young. The keys to this game will be 1) can we protect the quarterback, 2) can we stop UC's run game and 3) from what I'm hearing on the UC side can the Tornados stop our pass game which I guess relates back to #1. Gibson County ran for over 200 yards on us in week 0 and probably sacked our QB 3 or 4 times. Winning is hereditary. When you are use to losing, you will lose. When you are use to winning, you have that edge the other team doesn't have but also fears. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you don't know how to win, then.... I think this week we find out alot about both teams: both are hungry and are out to prove something in two completely different fashions. Man, I sure hope the Tigers can get over this hump!
  3. Hey there! Young'un is doing really well...four months old next Friday! He didn't go to the Lauderdale Bowl...too darn hot even for me. I haven't replied to your email, but I do plan on being there next Thursday night. I've been so busy with projects at work lately that I haven't been able to pinpoint a time to leave to come home for dinner much less to come to the game. I will be there but will likely miss the tailgate.
  4. Halls fan here (we do have internet here, but I posted this on Tuesday and it just got here). I saw Ripley in our first-ever Lauderdale Bowl. Even though Ripley beat us by a couple of scores, I can't see Ripley staying close. They have some speed, but we didn't have enough to contain the QB. We kept them to a bunch of 3rd and 11s and 4th and 8s and the QB would just keep it and sprint around the corner to get the 1st. I'm thinking: OCCHS 34, Ripley 12
  5. Week Zero's Results in 14A: Humboldt 35, Crockett County 14 Murray KY 12, Lake County 7 Milan 42, Peabody 13 Bruceton 19, South Fulton 15 Obion County 36, Union City 6 Halls 12, Gibson County 6 (OT) Greenfield - Bye 14A Standings After Week Zero: Halls 1-0 (0-0) Humboldt 1-0 (0-0) Greenfield 0-0 (0-0) Lake County 0-1 (0-0) Peabody 0-1 (0-0) South Fulton 0-1 (0-0) Union City 0-1 (0-0) Upcoming Week One Games: Greenfield vs Gleason Halls vs Tipton Rosemark Humboldt vs Milan Lake County at Fulton County KY Peabody vs Huntingdon South Fulton at West Carroll Union City vs Wayne County Poster's note: Yes, I put Halls at the top because 1) alphabetically Halls is before Humboldt and 2) I'm a homer and may not get the chance again sans maybe this week.
  6. Oh...yeah. You are right Bigster. My bad.
  7. Dresden doesn't play Halls. We rotated the Lions off for TCA.
  8. Anybody know when the Messenger's preview ocmes out? What about the Jackson Sun's?
  9. Dang Bigster! You can't tell me Boyd and Tyler are still eligible! I swear they have been playing 8 years already! As for Halls, we lost only 3 to graduation and only 2 of those played any minutes. I'm looking forward to finding out how much the freshman class from a year ago has learned. I understand we have gone through an entirely new workout regiment and I hear it is paying dividends as the kids are apparently getting much bigger than ever before in the offseason. If we stay healthy and if I'm not smoking too much of my homer pipe, I expect us to be in the running for a playoff spot.

Oh that is terrible. I've never seen him at a football game, but have seen him at different marathon/5K events. My condolences to Bulldog Country!
  11. It was one of the least attended day of championships I've seen in my 20+ years of attending. With this economy, the only thing that will help it is if somebody local makes the finals. The place would have been packed had siegel won the night before in the semifinals. I'm not sure when the current contract runs out, but I'm going to guess that when the next bids go out that Jackson (West TN) will put in a bid. They just lost the NAIA Women's National Tournament to Frankfort, KY. It had been in Jackson for the past 22 years. I'm sure the people in the Hub City would like to get their hands on that lost money somehow. That said, it needs to stay at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro. It is only fair for those in the East and the West to not have to drive a couple extra hours.
  12. Hey Bigster and the rest of the LC Fans: CONGRATULATIONS! Me and a buddy have been going up to the tournament for 20+ years and was there in attendance on Saturday too. I tried to get to this message board on my phone after the game, but for some reason it would never connect to any of the boards. Anyway, congrats...I know you guys are excited!!! We (Halls as some of you may know) got there a couple of times in the last 10 years but could never get to the finals. It was fun watching a team from close-by win it!!! ****** As for the Whitby comment, I have to say that over the last few years I thought I had seen better Lake County teams. The past teams have had better overall talent IMHO. So that means that Barger won more with less. So much for the championship belonging to Whitby. BS! ****** PS, West TN owns boys basketball!!!
  13. Wow!!! Good call!!! Congrats LC! That's one...now go get one more on Monday!!!
  14. From your district 14A buddies down the road: GO FALCONS!!!
  15. Sucked to be there on the wrong of end of a 55-0 beatdown, but the botched extra point at the end was the coolest thing I've seen at a high school football game in a long time. As soon as the holder fell on the snap, every kid on the field and sidelines started jumping up and down and yelling and throwing up five fingers on both hands for 55. Congrats Vikings and good luck in the playoffs from a Halls fan!!!
  16. Keep the updates comin'....sounds like a good one. Anybody got an update on another game in Obion County...Ripley @ the Rebs?
  17. Yeah, good job there Alumni! Secondly, glad to hear you are ok 007; message boards are a crazy world. I spend too much time watching things on the memphis tigers message board and people are idiots on there. This place has a long way to go to get to such levels. Lastly, everybody I talked to before the game pretty much summed it up correctly: whoever wants it most wins. I really thought, despite the beatings we took the previous few weeks, we would be that team. We started out up 7-0 and I thought we were off and running. Unfortunately we couldn't slow your offense, which had 400+ in the first half. Ridiculous. We played a TON of youngsters this year. I hope we have learned our lessons from this year and are ready to apply them next season. Tackling MUST be the focus of the off-season; it is the worst I've seen in years. Despite the inexperience, we have moved the ball most of the year...just had trouble finishing most drives. Most of the games that ended up blowouts were very close in the first quarter, only to see us fall apart in the second quarter. Several of those games we had long drives that ended up inside the 20 without scores. I think we would lose our confidence at that point.
  18. This should be a quick one Man on man, I hope it is over quick. We can only mark this one up as a wash for 2010, hope we learned a few things with our inexperience and are ready to apply our lessons learned in 2011.
  19. I hope I haven't missed anything, but where is volfan007? Isn't he a big Greenfield fanatic?
  20. YEEESSSS!!! If Alumni says it about Halls, then do as Picard says, "make it so." Tigers will win!! WooHoo...thanks Alumni!!!
  21. I don't expect to get too many hits on this thread, but hey there are some Tigers and Jackets fans out there!!! Halls: 2-6 Riding 6-game losing streak Greenfield: 2-6 Riding 4-game losing streak Does have the one district win against South Fulton Halls has played two good first quarters in back-to-back weeks: down 7-0 versus Peabody but had more total yards than the Tide, then tied 14-14 with Union City. We just can't keep the pace in the second quarter and have seen some terrible crooked numbers put up by the opponents this season. I hope our confidence hasn't been completely trashed; should at least be an exciting game.
  22. Good: the second half was over in about 25 minutes. Bad: we threw a pick on the first play of the game. Ugly: the second quarter. Wow! Congrats Tide! You have a talented team, but we sure didn't help ourselves. Peabody scored two plays after our pick to start the game and the rout was on. We actually held our own the rest of that quarter and were down to the Tide 5 at the end of the first period. We didn't score, but when the quarter was over, it was onlyl 7-0 Tide and the Tigers actually had 7 more yards than Peabody. Then the second quarter started. Let's count the ways (in no particular order): Punt return for TD Pick 6 Fumble return for TD The rest were on offense Incredible. Congrats Peabody!
  23. Wow...didn't see this one coming! Congrats Devils! No knock at anybody, but how did you guys lose to Greenfield?
  24. I heard Gleason won this game by a couple of TDs...something like 40-28 or something? Sorry if I am off on the final. Congrats Dawgs!
  25. I will give the lean to Gleason. I still don't know why this isn't a district game. I like playing both of these teams, but there is no way the Jackets shouldn't be teamed up with their other Weakley family members in that district.
