  1. I wasn't even talking about your feelings on the indoor facilities...you had just said that you did not like the hire...and you probably know nothing about him.
  2. BOY!!!! you hit the nail on the head with your daily breakdown of activities there. As a first year coach this year (straight outta college), i can tell you that my first season can definitely be summed up in two words: LEARNING EXPERIENCE. i only hope that all of my seasons to come will install as much knowledge on me as this one did. But yeah, listen to what these guys are telling you. go to school, major in a particular subject (math, history, government, etc.) and then minor in secondary education. also wouldn't be a bad idea for you to pick up a second or third minor in other subject areas in order to broaden your chances of finding a job (i could have in the time i wasted enrolling in about five or six courses i didn't need). best of luck, and i know you will do just fine.
  3. coach mac played football in college at tennessee tech. i was at riverdale as a player for his first two years there and loved being around him, although he wasn't my position coach. he is EXTREMELY energetic and knows how to get all of the players on a team motivated. but, off the field, he is as personable a guy as you'll ever see or want to meet. i got to talk to him this weekend for the first time in years and i really hope that oakland lucks out and gets him because if so he will take them far!
  4. Well, i really hope that lebanon rebounds from last week and can pull this one out. i did my student teaching there last year and really got attached to several of their players that I had in class. They have a great group of kids who are very teachable and have great attitudes, so I wish them the best. Also, Coach Brown and his staff were extremely helpful to me during my stint at LHS and made me feel as though I was one of the staff, so I wish them the best this week and for the rest of the year. Heck, maybe if we get things turned around here in Winchester we can meet up with the Devils in the playoffs! Good luck to both teams, but I think and I hope the Devils pull this one out.
  5. the best prank i remember was in '02 when we played lincoln county. there was a patch of dirt in the middle of the field that night, and the story i got sounded like this: lincoln county supporters were so upset about the falcons 0-3 start that they went on thursday nite before the game and planted a tree in the middle of the field...they said that the tree growing was the only productive thing going on on that field!!! however, they did beat us that nite and took our best player out for the season...so i'm not sure how to take it...
  6. true that center68... riverdale's d-line is gonna be absolutely phenomenal this year...all the starters returning to the exact same position coaches they've had in years past. by the way primetime, i believe that in '01 the ooltewah team claimed that they were superior to riverdale at every position...i should know, because i was part of the team that drummed you guys 35-7 in front of your home crowd. i hope that their d-line is better than it was then.
  7. all i know is sonny gray is going to be a freakin' force now that he has alex robins as his quarterback coach. i have worked beside the man for the last three years at mtsu, and he is the most knowledgeable and hard-working man i have ever known. i just hope sonny isn't much of a smart aleck or anything, or he will soon learn what a "10 and turn" drill is. very fast. with coach robins as his mentor, sonny gray could no doubt be the best qb in the state and one of the more dominant qb's in the south. no joke. listen, in sports illustrated a few years ago they interviewed the head coach at southlake carrol high school in texas, who was then the number one team in the country. when he was asked who his all-time mentor was, the person he looked to the most for football guidance, his answer was alex robins of middle tennessee state university. 'nuff said. robins is a catch. one of the best coaches in the nation--high school, college, and pros. he is a bit sarcastic though, as i'm sure sonny will soon find out. i wish coach robins the best; he is a great coach and an awesome guy.
  8. okay, besides the dickson county defeat...who else running the wing-t has beaten riverdale? i personally never lost to a wing-t team from 1999-2003. in fact, we beat hendersonville 35-7 in the state championship in 2002, and they supposedly ran it better than anyone in the state. riverdale may have had some tough luck running the wing-t, but except for one incident, i have yet to see them struggle with defending against it.
  9. i played against this kid when i was a senior at riverdale in the state semifinals, and he was the most impressive athlete i had ever seen. im sure he had like two hundred receiving yards on us that night in a game that we had absolutely no right winning. wish him all the best.
  10. hey kid, trust me--you should NOT be voicing opinions like these on the internet. easy way to fall out of graces to make any type of remarks similar to this one about your current coaches. trust me, i played there and i know the staff. probably best to keep your trap shut on this one brother. that aside, i am extremely optimistic about the warriors' upcoming seasons under aydelott's tutelage. you cannot argue with his record, and what he did at hillsboro is somewhat reminiscent of what rankin did at riverdale--both took average football teams and made them into machines that were always in the running for the golden ball. regardless of who is calling the plays on either side of the ball, i think aydelott will produce a team that is capable of carrying on the riverdale tradition. he's got my support. you know, a shift to the wing-t shouldn't prove to be a fatal blow for the warriors. running the ball is the staple of riverdale football, period. after all, in previous seasons the warrior offense could line up in the shotgun with no back and five wide, but dave thomas was still going to run it off tackle. c'mon guys, seriously, the wing-t (although somewhat boring to watch) is the most effective and methodical method of controlling a football game if its run correctly. aydelott knows the wing-t, so the warriors should be in good shape. all of this aside, i would also like to point out that regardless of what offense riverdale runs, they will still beat blackman by 70.
  11. my solution to the blackman football problem? just pave their field over and make more parking spaces for students. then maybe something exciting would actually happen there, like a fender bender. to all you who think this is blackman's year, here's a quote from the great philosopher steven tyler: DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM ON... oh, and just for the record, blazer14 is not as intelligent as he sounds. trust me, i work with the guy. he thinks "the longest yard" is the documentary of a lawn care business. just kidding buddy.
  12. i hate to argue with you, but the teams that south panola play year in and year out are a whole lot better than the siegels, blackmans, and even the worthington kilbournes. i understand that the "clone" is currently a riverdale starter, but i seriously doubt he would dominate anyone on that defense. ms football is much better than tn football, especially this year. i think if these two teams played this year that south panola would handle the warriors. i know i'm committing heresy by speaking against the warriors, but its the truth. oh, and if they are "south granola" then riverdale would need to be called "lucky charms" to beat them.
  13. i'm going to have to say that previous riverdale teams could have played with south panola, but not some of the more recent ones. i lived in ms and i know the south panola lore, and they are something to behold. the difference in talent is very noticeable (size, speed, strength, athletic ability). the 2001 riverdale team could have played with anyone in ms i believe, but since then no riverdale team has had the ability to stay within a couple of scores of south panola, including my senior team in 2002 and the state champ team in 2004. the fact is, they just grow em different down there, and the high school football in ms is a notch above tn football.
  14. whatever the outcome of this one, it won't be by more than 14. i have to take my warriors, as they've shown that they have the ability to win the close ones, and oak ridge has already fallen to an average ooltewah team. riverdale 28 oak ridge 21 in OT. should be a great one, and i will be in attendance!!!
  15. prayers from the riverdale warriors for this young girl and her family. God is good and is ALWAYS working for the good, even in times that we don't understand. to her family, i offer 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.
  16. wow, that is impressive. congratulations to coach holmes. don't know the guy, but it seems as though he is one heckuva coach. those stats are PHENOMENAL!!
  17. hey guys, what happened to my coach rankin quotes???????
  18. you set your offense to accomodate the athletes you have on your team. if you have a great back and some decent wide-outs and an average qb, i'd take the I over the shotgun any day. if you've got a wealth of talent at wr and a decent/good qb, run the shotgun. however, a lot of teams get in trouble because they run a set that does not highlight their stars.
  19. played at riverdale from '99-'02. my freshman number was 81 and i was a te/de. we were midstate champs that year, going 9-0 and beating fayetteville in the lions bowl. i was number 86 my sophomore and junior year and still a te/de, but i saw quite a bit of action and racked up several tackles and sacks my junior year when we went 15-0 and won state. my senior year, i had to change my number to 66 to play on the offensive line due to so many injuries up there, and i started 4 games at guard before moving to tackle and starting for the other 11 games. greatest game(s): vs. blackman in the playoffs my junior year. coming back from 16-6 at halftime to beat the blaze 27-16 in front of my home crowd. also, vs. blackman in the playoffs my senior year. trailing most of the game, took the lead and sealed the deal with a fifty or so yard touchdown run by derente frazier.
  20. every week, same ol' yip yap from riverdale's opponents about how the warriors have never SEEN a defense or offense like the one that they will be facing that week or that the warriors are on the decline despite boasting a ten year record that most schools could only dream of attaining in twenty. here's a newsflash--riverdale does not have dave thomas, they have been scored on by a very good lavergne team, they are banged up, and some of their players have proven that they would probably fumble or drop their firstborn. BUT, they are the best team in the region (just wanted to clear that up for all the pop-off wc fans), have been for over ten years and will undoubtedly be so after tonight's game. evidently, you guys at wc run the greatest wing-t offense ever assembled in the country. DOESN"T MATTER!! you'll be lucky to make one trip into the endzone tonight. you simply cannot run that offense against riverdale. look at their speed and size and DISCIPLINE for cryin out loud. after a slow start on offense, riverdale will pour so many points on you that the maintainence crew will have to stop the game so they can add a row of light bulbs in the shape of the number "1" in front of riverdale's scoring column. bottom line, stop talking all this trash and running off at the mouth, wc fans. its not gonna be good for your little precious hearts when the warriors demoralize you all on your home field. have a nice day. halftime: riverdale 28, wc 0 final score: riverdale 56, wc 7 (and i'm being generous by giving you seven)
  21. yeah, i gotta go with the qbs at ravenwood and lavergne. from what i hear, ravenwood's qb is just an outright playmaker--throws well, runs well, reads well. however, that rodriguez kid at lavergne is tough. he gave the warriors all they wanted friday night with that spread offense. any kid who can do what he's doing with a team that has been TERRIBLE over the last few years deserves all the credit he can get. wonder what it would take to recruit him over to riverdale? had to go ahead and put that out there before some warrior enemies did.
  22. spfan, congrats on the thrashing of germantown this past weekend. wish i could've seen it in person.
  23. sp statman, i lived in houston ms for fourteen years before coming to murfreesboro to play at riverdale. i grew up hearing about the south panola powerhouse, and i have no doubt that you guys will win this weekend. no knock on gtown, they are a great team with a great tradition, but i know firsthand how much stronger ms football is than tn football (except at the college level of course, but i hate the vols!!! i still bleed maroon and white!!!) good luck to both teams, but i have to give this one to sp by at least 17.
