  1. Actually alcoa has sam thompson and he is more than adequate as a kicker. And for brodus to give his word that he would be there for the team then do this, no it isnt fair to the other guys.
  2. No, thats not the true story. Brodus has missed past alcoa games to play club soccer. He told coach rankin he was going to come to the 3rd round playoff game so he could play in a soccer match. He was then told to turn in his stuff. The alcoa coaching staff had already done this kid a number of favors. He only had to practice a couple day a week and never had to stay past 4 so he could play soccer with the agreement that he wouldnt miss football games. you cant have a player on your team just show up and play whenever he feels like it. Not fair to the other guys.
  3. Coach Rankin calls the plays on offense
  4. His is alcoa arrogant when 1) Other teams fans talk more about alcoa than the Alcoa fans do. Also, it would seem to me that they have a right to be proud of their team just like any other teams fans do. Alcoa has won 4 titles in a row and 5 since 2000. Since that 2000 season they have been in the semi-finals every season except 2002. Since the start of the 2004 season they have a record of 64-6 with the losses coming to maryville and fulton, who won state each year the beat them. Not only have they not lost a 2-A game but every single win has been by double digits with huntingdon coming closest to winning with an 11 point loss. Alcoa fans are like any other teams fans, they love to support their team. but for some reason when alcoa and maryville fans support their team they are arrogant and cocky. This isnt the case, those two schools are proud to represent blount county and blount county is glad to have them both. Every teams fans want to stand up and be proud that their team won a state championship and Alcoas fans have just been more fortunate than most. I realize as do all alcoa fans that one day alcoa will lose and not win the title but thats just a part of it. right now alcoa is on a great run as is maryville, which is great for blount county and great for tennessee high school football.
  5. the 6'2" James has kinda been a pleasant surprise at qb this season taking over from Randall Cobb. From what the Alcoa coaches say, hes always had the athletic ability to be as good as he wants to be at any position. He was a starter at corner last year and flashed tons of potential there. At qb this season hes completed something like 73% of his passes for a little over 1000 yds with 18 tds and 3 ints. Hes also rushed for 5 tds and returned 4 punts for td. He is getting tons of interest from MTSU, Marshall and some others.
  6. the 5 region titles in a row record is an alcoa record, not state. I think thats where the confusion came in. the alcoa players were told by the coaches after the game that alcoa had not won 5 region titles in a row and that this was the first time in the schools history it happened.
  7. The too hype that youre asking about is something that I believe the 1989 team started. Every team since then has been doing too hype during pre-game. Its actually pretty cool to watch. If you type in too hype on youtube the one vs smith county is on there.
  8. Alcoas Randall Cobb has just been named the starter for Kentucky this week against miss state. Hes done very well so far as a freshman and it was great watching him against florida last week. Not bad for a freshman who everyone said couldnt play qb. Congrats randall! keep making alcoa and east tennessee proud. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/sec/0-1-728/Cob...uarterback.html
  9. Since he runs that 4.28 I think he nees to running with usain bolt instead of the AHS secondary
  10. Shiverdeckers entire family pretty much lives in alcoa and he came to live with an aunt because of a family situation where someone was sick. He has been around alcoa all of his life. And as far as the anyone can attend, that is not true at all. Anyone can attend as long as they are in the city limits of alcoa. If you do not live in alcoa you must apply as a tuition student and be accepted by the school board and principle. I know of one example this year where jock stinson from fulton had tried to enroll in alcoa city schools and was rejected. Keep in mind that this was a kid who would have without a doubt helped alcoa. When you look at the players that have helped alcoa win these state championships, starting with the 2000 (James Rainer, Jamel sankey, jonathan harris, jerome robinson, michael george) and thru the current streak (Brandon warren, dustin lindsey, rae sykes, randall cobb, troy hodge, martin white, chase james and so on) all of these kids live and grew up in alcoa.
  11. Yeah, but the high school players at alcoa are little different than at loudon. And as far as 2A goes, they hadnt lost a game since the end of the 2003 regular season. Not only have they not lost but EVERY SINGLE win has been by double digits. So, no nobody is unbeatable, but they are about as close as it comes in 2A. This season alcoa is 5-1. You take out the maryville game they have outscored teams 252-6(avg of 50 to 1.2). Both field goals came against backups in the 4th quarter.
  12. I may be totally wrong on this but in the last 3 years didnt ravenwood lose to goodpasture? And the riverdale team lose to mccallie that alcoa beat?
  13. The point was not to say anyone was scared or ducking competition. The whole point of my post was to say that those type of things go both ways. People knock maryville saying that they dont schedule the best and my point was that everyone has the same opportunity to call maryville to schedule a game that maryville does to call them. We all know that MBA plays out of state all the time against great competition and usually wins those games. But i dont think that what maryville has accomplished should be diminshed by who they are playing. I dont care who you are playing, to win 64 in a row is hard to do. Its not like they are playing just awful teams either. During this streak they have beaten everyone from Alcoa, Mo west, central (the strong central teams) to Melrose, hillsboro, and some strong others. Ill stand behind saying that they are the standard right now of TN high school football.
  14. haha well the only time alcoa and farragut have ever played was in a jv game last year which ended like 40 something to 6 alcoa /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  15. yeah, if they are overrated then its like 60 something other teams who are pretty bad because they beat them all. Until they get beat how can you say anything other than they are the best. People say why doesnt Maryville schedule teams like B.A. and MBA but i dont see those schools ringing maryvilles phone off the hook to play either. I think that kind of goes both ways. Maryville football is the standard in the state of tennessee right now.
  16. 2 years ago alcoa also beat the same mccallie team that beat 5A power riverdale.
  17. I actually think alcoa probably looks at it the other way. I dont think they believe its a weak spot, i think they look at it as great preperation when they play other 2A teams. When you can get in a slug it out with maryville for 4 qtrs then you only get better. they know they will never see anything like that in 2A. I think playing maryville is a huge reason why alcoa has been so dominate in 2A. Nothing comes close to playing against the boys clad in all black. win or lose, when you play with maryville like they did last night and 2 years ago then those guys have nothing but confidence they can get it done in 2A
  18. Ok. let me explain what i mean by that. depth was not the reason alcoa lost the game. we lost the game because of two turnovers that led directly to maryville points. we lost the game because of missed tackles and blown assignments as in the one td where GQ slid the back across the formation into the end zone. Alcoa didnt take advantage of maryville mistakes the way maryville took advantage of alcoas. i dont think that had anything to do with depth. it was more about excecution and maryville doing a great job. I dont think that depth was an issue because you saw the energy alcoa had when they drove right down the field on maryville at the end of the 3rd qtr to score the td to tie it up. I do think that both teams were spent at the end of the game because they did play so hard and you have to applaud the way that both teams got after it. I know that alcoa rotated 4 or 5 dt's, 3 or 4 de's and backs and wrs on offense. Now maybe it wasnt maryville depth but it was sufficient enough for alcoa to rested enough to finish the game, unlike years in the past. I really do believe both teams are even better than what people believed they were going to be and that both teams have great shots to represent the east. I thought for maryville that juhlin grew up a little bit tonight and matured and got better as the game went on. He, along with shular and jordan are very impressive. I thought toney and tyson showed strong running ability as did james at qb. Good luck to both teams!!! lets bring two more back!!!
  19. Alcoa played way more than 20. Depth was not this issue.
  20. I like tornado74's post. Milan is already talking about back to back, meanwhile, alcoa has not only been undeafeated in 2A over the last 4 years but they also have not even had a game within single digits. To go 4 years and every 2A game alcoa plays, they win by double digits is pretty outstanding. In their last 61 games alcoa is 56-5. And over the last 3 years they have outscored 2A teams by a combined score of 1723 to 273. The only teams that have beat alcoa the last 4 years are maryville and fulton and each year both of those teams won state in their classifications. So unless youre from one of those two schools i dont see how you could really say much. And whoopty doo if maryville and white house beat alcoa. I dont know, maybe its just me but i didnt think 3A and 4A teams could stop alcoa from winning the 2A state championship, which is what i thought the thread was about. Maybe I have the rules of this thing messed up and maryville is going to put alcoa out of the playoffs this year!!!
  21. Albert Davis-philadelphia eagles Billy williams- UT, St louis rams Shannon Mitchell-UGA. San Diego Chargers Albert Davis-Signed UGA, drafted by the pirates and chose baseball Tyrus Gilmore. Miss State Jamie Henry-UT Kory Conner-MTSU Brandon Warren-FSU-UT Logan Love-UT Joei Fiegler- UAB commit Rae Sykes-UT Randall Cobb- KY Kyrus Lanxter-KY Those are just a few that have gone on to play college ball
  22. Alcoa starters played thru the 3rd quarter and that was it. Warren is alcoas 3rd tailback so why shouldnt he be playing. Hambrick( 29) was one FR who got some carries and soph brendon rudd who is actually wr also got in and played tb. he was number 32. Not to mention alcoa also put in its entire 2nd team offense for a series in the 2nd quarter.
  23. Tyler Robinson has done a great job during camp so far and is a returning 1st team all state TE so hopefully he will continue to take those steps towards being a dominate TE and not just a really good one. I think everyone should keep the name steven isom (#4)in the back of your mind. Hes the 2nd best wr on that team now as a soph.and should get tons of varsity snaps this season and i look for him to be a breakout player. Hes about 6'2 and the nephew of former alcoa qb michael george. I look for him to be taking a lot of pressure off thompson and robinson by the end of the year.
  24. Yeah Alcoa dominated oak ridge in all parts of the scrimmage. the varsity was 28-0 and between the jv and freshman it was alcoa 11 tds to oak ridge 0. James looked better, thompson played outstanding as did tyler robinson. Alcoas defense also had a great night.
