  1. I just thank you for what you do Dean. You make those that cannot make it there feel like its happening right there in their home. Thanks so much for what you do. Thanks, Doug
  2. I really was going to keep away from posting anything on this subject. But I must press on to the point of those making Mr. Mang into a saint. Sorry but what happens to those who were really effected by the terrible things he did? Did he repay any of them back? Did he spend any time ina youth detention center? I mean instead he moves in with his father and continues to do the thing he loves to do so I see not one thing that was changed so that he could learn there were consequences to his actions. Were the others treated as well, or was it because they were not as well blessed or as well talented as Mr. Mang? I see a man who did a very serious wrong, not just a small thing that was because of his youth but instead something that was orchestrated and thought out. Sorry but it is inexcusable, I did some stupid things in my youth while I wrestled but nothing that would have gotten me jail time. I see nothing wrong with him wrestling this year if he would have set out last year instead. Which is worse what he did or a kid screwing up in a class and being not academically ineligible? But yet they have to sit out until their grades are brought back up. Instead he moves to another state wins a state title there than goes back to attend his old school. Which to me shows that wrestling is more important than the lesson to be learned. He has alot of talent but there are many coaches around including myself that would not let him step foot on my mat until he set out a year to learn there are many consequences to be paid when those type of mistakes are made. I guess there is a good reason I am not his coach. But priority number one is for wrestlers to be good people and GOOD CITIZENS, do well in school and be productive in their lives as well as those they encounter in life. Not to be just great wrestlers. But I guess sometimes winning and losing is all that matters and teaching lessons is not the most important lesson. I am sure he is a great person and very smart with a great family surrounding him. I hope he continues to do well and that he flourishes in his wrestling and continues to help UTC build into a wrestling powerhouse. I also am sure that you TNLADYINCALI are a great sister if I read your post correctly and you are right in standing up for your brother. I just do not think the correct lessons were taught in this situation but you have to do what you think is best for your family. I hope I do not offend you with my statements, but he did do something that he very well be thankful he is a minor and not treated as a adult. That one year really did help him because he very well could have spent 11 29 in jail and we would not be talking about him wrestling at all. I just hope he continues to make the right decisions and does not make a very bad decision again that might cost him more than his wrestling future but also his life. Good Luck Mr. Mang you are a great wrestler, and I am sure TNLadyinCAli you are a great person also. Good luck in the future as well as the present. Thanks, Doug
  3. Its because we cannot pay our players as well Paul /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Hope your doing well you wrestling anywhere? Doug
  4. Also I am not trying to say she was a bad player either. Ijust think that the game has changed from just a bunch of power hitters that weigh 250lbs to these tiny little slap hitters that run like the devil. I would take a team full of slap hitters versus a lineup of nothing but power hitters all day. Great pitchers can strike out a home run hitter. But for what these girls hit on average when slapping and putting the ball in play they produce runs and force many errors. Again I thought Sarah was a good ballplayer in high school just not what she turned out to be later in her career.
  5. #12fan. You know most coaches tell the players what they want to hear. In Sarah's case I'm sure she was a great player. But I also believe that her career at TN would not have been anything like what it was because of what the Weekly's did. Coaches are paid to make a good player great. That is what they did with Sarah. Look at her stats. I mean the best better in D1 ball. Coaches especially those as good as the Weekly's see the strength and weaknesses in each player. They pick up on those and make that player into a much better player. Thats why TN is the number one team in the nation. Maybe there was some ill will to the Weekly's for not telling her up front what their plans were. Did you ever think that maybe after watching her more and more they thought you know she has the speed to be a great slap hitter for this team. I'm sorry but after watching TN softball for many years the Weekly's helped Sarah become what she became, one of the best hitters in America. Not quite sure she would have done the same batting as a righty and trying it the regular way. I watched her in high school and although a very good player, they turned Sarah into a D1 All American So i don't think that the Weekly's need to give her any apologies. Also I know she worked very hard to become what she became at TN. My thing is without the switch to a slap-hitter she would not have became a All-American a good player yes. Here are some of her stats http://utladyvols.cstv.com/sports/w-softbl.../071306aaa.html. I would take a coach that can make my son produce to the best of his abilities, and for the best of the team. Than doing what my son or I thought was the best thing for him. Just my humble opinion but the time, effort, and the Money spent on these girls to play softball is ridiculous for them to just sit the bench instead of changing they way in which they do something. I also think that with TN softball being behind as far as talent than Cal, or Texas the Weekly's know what they are doing to make the girl the best than can be.
  6. O.K so maybe it would be close but I think at no time would Felix be in trouble of getting beat. Sorry, but watch that match again Kelly was in control the whole time. First period all Bauke done was try to underhook Felix to keep him away. Kelly rode him the whole second period and reversed the third whileBauke was on top. Bauke escaped, that was it. Theres one thing about keeping a match close most good wrestlers can do that but beating an opponent is a whole different story. Sorry but after watching both the finals at Father Ryan against Felix and him during the state tournament I think he is so aware of what Felix does that he stays away from it to keep the match close and hopes Felix screws up for him to beat Kelly. So maybe I retract he would school Bauke but it would be a match of defense for Bauke vs. if Felix can get past that defense.
  7. i still would think he would school Bauke. Yes they wrestled earlier this year. But I just have to think Felix got better than Bauke did. He wrestled much better competition throughout the year compared to CBHS. And thats no offense to CBHS but they did not wrestle the same competition as Felix and Franklin did. Plus he had better competition in D1 than Bauke did but Bauke only won 5-3 over Harding Academy kid and 9-3 over a good Miller. Where as Felix even though people ran from him pin, pin, tech, pin, pin. Also I just watched another replay of the finals at Father Ryan but this time would be different. For a 2-1 match Felix was in control the whole time.
  8. 103 Jeremy Miller (8th Greenback) vs Daniel Baucke (9th CBHS) 112 Josh Jadoobirsingh (11th Cleveland) vs Bailey Whitacker (12th Baylor) 119 Demetrius Johnson (12th Brighton) vs T.J. Duncan (8th McCallie) 125 David Graham (10th Bradley) vs John Michael Simspson (12th MBA) 130 Tanner Johnson (12th Bradley) vs Ben Johnson (12 Baylor) 135 Ulric Winesburgh (12th Soddy) vs Will Young (12th McCallie) 140 Dean Pavlon (11th Bradley) vs Mike Bell (12th Baylor) 145 Kelly Felix (12th Franklin) vs Josh Baucke (12th CBHS) 152 Justin Spain (12th Bradley) vs Reed Doster (12th Baylor) 160 Brandon Wright (12th Houston) vs Daniel Wadell (12th Baylor) 171 Jake Young (10th Ool) vs Aaron Bateman (12th Father Ryan) 189 Tyler Roberson (12th Soddy) vs Darius Williams (12th CBHS) 215 Matt Lettner (12th Soddy) vs Ben Bartholomew (11th MBA) HW Cody Sliger (11th Ool) vs Zach Herman (11th Father Ryan) take Bauke dec D2 Josh Jadoobirsingh dec D1 Johnson major D1 Simpson major D2 Ben Johnson dec D2 Young dec D2 Felix major D1 Spain dec D1 Wright dec D1 Young dec D1 Roberson dec D1 Letner dec D1 Sliger dec D1 Although a few of these can be toss-ups after watching all of the above wrestle. I don't think 189, would be that close and I think Felix schools a Bauke at 145. I think that 103 could be very good as well as Young and Winesburgh.
  9. Actually I think the best from TN might be wrestling at UTC right now with Keller. Maybe next year Leen. I have watched Condon wrestle for a few years and I also see he had some trouble with the other brother Banks? Again they were at McCallie last few years until this one which I sorely missed having his team there. And not really sure about the best in the SE maybe at his weight but as bad a I hate Brandon I think I would take Eric Grajales, 44-0, So. Brandon as the best and only a So. Also at 160 Tom Timothy, 44-0, Sr., Brandon might be a good match for Condon. Maybe we can see this at senior nationals. Thanks for the numbers we would be lucky to have 600 combined wrestlers if you took 448 for D1 and 14 classes average of 10 wrestlers each for D2. I can't with to see what some of these boys from GA and Tn do up at senior nationals.
  10. I would say you would have trouble you would beat us but still some trouble. I wrestled for Soddy know Roberson well I think he could go a few rounds with Olsen would be a very good match to me. Not sure about Condon. Have watched him quite a few times and think he would have some trouble with both Wright and Waddell. I think he would beat them but not more than 3-5 points. Also as good as Bradley is with legs I have seen many times with them taking top when their time comes to pick. Being from Soddy I hate running legs but they are very efficient of their use. Again like I said they are comparing apple to oranges when comparing GA to Tn wrestling. You know the statistics of the number of programs compared to those in TN. Sometimes I do think TN has some better wrestling. One year Soddy wrestled Ringgold where I live and beat them in a dual by 22. Ringgold won the state duals in GA that year. SD did not. Its just a matter of opinion on who can win where. I would like to put our best college wrestlers from Tn against the best of Ga the past few years to see how we stack up. Again not trying to flame you either, just think that its apples and oranges.
  11. I also think Soddy sets the bar high to also they beat Parkview this year at McCallie and lost to them at Oviedo with 3 starters gone. Would be close. Also Roberson beat Olsen at McCallie this year 2-0. So things could go both ways there also. And if Letner would have opened up against Nandor like he did Coffee he would have beat Nandor worse than he did both times they wrestled. Just depends on what Letner shows up against Brooks. Also have watched Banks wrestle quite a few times when he was still at Sequoyah at McCallie he is good but Spain is also. If you never wrestle against people running legs its hard to be good defending them. Have always Respected you RMC but considering the amount of programs you have and the amount of people in GA, which I live in. Its apples and oranges.
  12. I would put my money on Spain also watched Banks and his brother both and I think Justin would take them even think Toney would give him a run. At 160 I think Condon and Wright would be a great match also. Condon is good but after watching Brandon this weekend I would think it to be a toss-up.
  13. I was even wowed at that last match for Matt after watching him all 4 years. By far a match I thought would be close was wrestled in a way he schooled a 2 time state champ. He was not to be denied. Coach even said a few weeks ago in a interview that Matt against some of the best competition would wrestle defensive and not open up the way coach knew he could. Saturday just happened to be that match he opened up in and showed he is a true champ. Again I apologize to you Mr. Rigger for the posts in the past questioning your feelings on the way Matt wrestled. Even Coach Henry thought the same.
  14. Yes they are your opinions of course opinions can be wrong. I point towards you and your post because for the most part you are the only one defending something that was done wrong to a fellow poster at a wrestling match. You should also learn to spell as you point out I cannot but yet you put I saw this because you keep directing your post at me. Did you mean say this? Opinions belong to everyone does not make them right. The rules are rules and I will state them just like if BCB was going against the rule I would have posted that. I'm not your teacher or correcter, but when someone has the wrong information I do tend to give them the correct info, I guess that would be the teacher in me. I wouldn't let my students go about doing the wrong thing over and over hence telling you over and over that your opinion is your opinion but based on the rules BCB was in the right. There are many rules you might not like with TSSAA and wrestling but you have to live with those just like me. If you do not like them try to change them or move on to something or somewhere else.
  15. Yes but again unless you can prove he was going to give the video to his sons coaches to have the whole team watch as a scouting session there is nothing you can do to stop the taping of a match. It is how the rule is written and again as I have said before if you don't like the rule have a talk with Mr. Carter at the state. Baby bear mom, I really wished you would actually read every post before you come on here jumping on some of us for calling coaches thugs and what not. I as almost everyone else except at the begging of the thread have said nothing of you and your Bradley family. I wrestled for Soddy Daisy and if they would have made the same mistake I would have said the same thing I am saying now. BCB is able to tape the matches and help his son scout other wrestlers. Thats what the rule says and implies. Coaches themselves cannot do the same, and as far as I know BCB is not a coach at ND as either a paid or volunteer coach. Again I have known Heath for many years and would never call him a thug the same with Laxton. I just feel the made a mistake, one that should never have happened. Again I'm not quite sure how taping a match or scouting a opponent is hurting the opponent, or how it is such a big deal. If my son was being taped I would take it as a compliment that someone thought he was so good that they needed extra scouting to beat him. Again just my two cents but why so much worry about this. Again no one is bashing Bradley on this thread as far as I know, this could have happened to Coach Henry and I would have said the same thing. Its just answering what is right and wrong in this situation.
  16. Don't get me with this can still be legal and still be wrong I can pull the old but card all you want but its not wrong if you think it is than you take wrestling and sports WAY too seriously. This is not war its a game. This is shooting a kid for a video to see how to make yourself or your son better. Not shooting someone because your life is on the line. Again it seriously shouldn't even be a rule about it. You ask what is fair about it but I say again if it is open to everyone to do as long as you are not standing in front of someone with your camera blocking someones ability to watch the match than there should be nothing wrong with taping a opponent. Its not unfair. Again as Rigger said football coaches send tapes of their team as well as others for scouting purposes so why not with wrestling. Not sure why there are so many panties in a wad about this rule. Also maybe BCB would have been better off going, "does anyone know exactly the rule for taping a athletic contest that does not involve your own kid and is not used for the coaches or the entire team." Instead of addressing it to Mr. Carter which has no care for this himself. But again it is a rule if you do not like it go to Mr Carter yourself and let him know. The same has happened with Brandon and Oviedo in Florida where now there could be a lawsuit for Brandon taking the tape which was property of the Oviedo wrestler himself. Their rule is pretty much word for word like TN.
  17. Because A coach which I have been for the past few years can take each tape break it down and sit his wrestlers down to coach the strength and weaknesses of each wrestler and where to attack those points. If a kid or his parents make that effort than they(and I never said my opinion if it was right or wrong) are able to do that. Its the extra prep that can help make good wrestlers better wrestlers like Peyton Manning staying after practice to watch the defense of other teams. That extra effort is awarded to all parents and wrestlers. Just not the coaches in their sense without others permission is unethical. Its the way the rules state go to the book and read it if you want. Also I never have attacked nor would I want to attack the other coaches for being anything other than great coaches. Maybe not up to date on the rule book I do not know. I have known Heath for many years I even took his wrestling class at UTC have great respect for him as I do Laxton. Morally I don't think it is wrong sorry but when it comes to morals theres alot worse things this world needs to worry about than taping of a high school wrestling match. If it hurts someones feelings that much I am sorry but thats just to bad maybe you shouldn't be as serious about wrestling as that. This sport is the most amazing sport there is and I played about every sport you can and none can compare but to let your feelings get hurt because someone respects your sons wrestling skills enough to tape his match to make yourself or your son better to me is kind of sad. AND AGAIN this opportunity is offered to all wrestlers and parents out there. If you don't take advantage of that than that is your problem not BCB's. Again I'm not afraid of what people think of me personally but to hear the facts and the truth is what I truthfully think BCB was wanting with this post.
  18. Again there is no reason to tell the parents what he is there to do. Again like you keep saying none of their business. What he does to you might be unethical again doesn't make your opinion right. Just because a parent looks at you like that also doesn't mean BCB was in the wrong. I do not know BCB never have met him. I'm just stating the facts about if it was right or wrong to tape another wrestlers match. The answer is yes, has been since 1995 when I was wrestling and taping matches when I had a off weekend or night. I still have tapes of Jimmy Hoover again still did not help me when I was looking at lights. The open letter was not a admission of guilt to Ronnie Carter either it was a question stating the same question I just stated. Theres one thing on getting on here to try to defend your team. I commend that I do the same with my old team that I still help from time to time. But to not look at the facts and what BCB actually wrote about is ignorant. Some parents take things much to hard and seriously than others. If you want to come and tape my son when he is wrestling go right ahead. If I had the time and money I would save you the trip and dub a copy for you. To each parent that takes the sport too seriously and gets caught up in getting mad for something like this takes away from the real star in the sport and that is the kid themselves.
  19. No he started this to find out if anyone knew if it was alright or not to film matches. As per the rulebook it states that yes for personal consumption it can be done. That is what he was trying to figure out. Does not matter if we were there or not to know the facts about if it is alright to video tape matches when you are a parent to a wrestler. That was what he was trying to find out. You attacked him on how unethical it is. Maybe you need to read the rulebook instead of basing your facts on being there Saturday. So get your facts straight before calling someone unethical or anything else that judges their character. And yes it everyone elses business on this question. It can help to answer another parents questions for the future. I also do not question the fact that Coach Laxton or Coach Eslinger were doing the best for their wrestlers but at the same time need to know exactly what the rules states about taping of matches. Maybe their opinions are different than what mine are but rules are rules if they do not think them to be right they need to question Ronnie Carter about this.
  20. Babybearmom, I know you would like to come on here and try to defend your Bradley Bears. But until you read the rule book yourself theres no reason to come on here telling someone wether they are ethical or not. Or that they broke a TSSAA rule or not. I as a coach cannot go to another teams matches and tape that match without first going to the one who is running the match and asking for permission. However that same kids parents can sit in the stands and tape those same matches. This is the same as it is in Florida also. It is not illegal nor unethical to tape matches for personal uses. Of course I like the approach of going with pen and pad and writing down what is going on in a match. Just easier to me as I hate watching video instead of reading. Also his reasons for being there were no one elses business including the dad of the kid he was taping. If that kids dad wanted to tape Tee I'm sure BCB would have no problems with that what do you say BCB.
  21. Very much respect for you Coach Logsdon, you and Coach Henry are the two best in this state. Which is full of good wrestling coaches. Good luck to you for the rest of the season just not to much luck against my boys from Soddy Daisy. Again much respect for setting the record straight when your own record should have been more than enough to begin with. Doug Benton SD 1999
  22. So what other place would you call to host a state tournament with both divisions over 600+ wrestlers families and the locals that come to watch like me and my 6 year old? There are no high schools that could do that and MTSU I went there has less parking for the most part than UTC does with the garage and 10 parking lots within 3 blocks of the Arena. Also if you can find a hotel outside of downtown Chattanooga there are plenty of hotels in the outskirts just a few minutes away. So I think it is a perfect place for the state that can handle even more growth than what has already begun. Never been to Austin Peay so not really sure what they have to offer.
  23. I think if they could get the gym at MTSU to host the state duals it would be great for the whole state. The Murphy Ctr is a nice facility and host the basketball tournament already so why not the duals. The traditional needs to stay at UTC and in Chattanooga. I go at least 2 days worth of the state while I am not able to do the same with going to Clarksville. Even though I have relatives there. The traditional at UTC is a great venue and has grown the years that it has been there. I hate the fact it is being done on Wed, Thursday, and Friday this year but it happens and I will be there at least one of the days. Sorry but I agree with the fact that alot of if not most of those at the state duals this weekend were from Chattanooga. Sorry but although closer to Middle TN even when I wrestled in the late 90's more Chattanooga fans were there than the others combined. You can just look at the teams and tell me who has more fans show up than these schools. Baylor, Soddy Daisy, Bradley, McCallie, Ooltewah, and Notre Dame? But I do think that the duals should be somewhere like at MTSU if they could get the gym there. I would make that drive.
  24. Hey just wanted to see everyones take on the finals and who each of you thinks will be taking home the gold. Here are my picks. Soddy Daisy vs. Bradley Central 103: Hammonds SD dec McAlister Brad SD 3-0 112: Randolph Brad dec Stewart SD Tied 3-3 119: Brett SD dec Biddy Brad SD 6-3 125: Graham Brad major Witt SD Brad 6-7 130: Fuller SD dec Johnson Brad SD 9-7 135: Winesburg dec Withrow Brad SD 12-7 140: McCroskey dec Pavlou Brad SD 15-7 145: Spain Brad major Spletzer SD SD 15-11 152: Toney SD Dec Disney Brad SD 18-11 160: Creagan Brad T-Fall McCroskey Sd SD 18-16 171: Watson Brad Pin Young SD Brad 18-22 189: Roberson SD major Vaughn Brad SD 22-22 215: Letner SD Pin Losudo Brad SD 28-22 275: Zimmerman SD major Epperson Brad SD 32-22 Thats just my take on the match if it come down to SD and Brad. Of course this takes into account who has to send out their wrestler first at which weight classes. I am sure there will be some switching around of weights and also I am taking Toney into account for SD although not sure if he is going or not. Again guys have fun be careful and all teams are there for a reason and are showing how tough TN wrestling is becoming. Good Luck.
  25. Hey just wanted to know if those weights are correct for Soddy. If so I think that makes them much tougher with being able to move people up and down against Bradley. Just don't think Clarksville has enough firepower for them although I could be wrong. But again if those are the weights for Soddy than it could very much be who wins the flip of the coin to send their wrestler out first for what weights. Also does anyone know if Toney is wrestling up there this weekend did he weigh in?
