  1. Someone needs to let me..well heck everyone know about relief efforts. Also, if the cleanup effort is being started I want to know about that. I may just shack up somewhere in that area while the cleanup is going on to help out. May have to make Goose let me do some writing though, for Big Mac money.
  2. Ok, will do...would have called earlier, but knew it wasn't close to noon and you wouldn't be at work.
  3. Hey Goose I am writing my twister story and was wondering if I could use some of what you posted as a quote? Of course, I shall put in there the RCN thing, but needed some local quotes. Thanks in advance for letting me.
  4. Wow. I just found out that the husband of the woman who watches my little Noah, is from Morgan County. He and his wife took off this morning because all of his family was missing. His last name is Good or Goode....so if anyone hears anything, let me know. Like so many in east Tennessee, families sometimes live in the same neighborhood and I am guessing they all lived on the same street. We all have problems, but could you imagine getting a phone call: "Sorry to call and let you know this...every member of your family is missing..." And then, to have to drive more than 2 and a half hours with that on your mind!! I am going to hit the prayers even harder. God bless everyone affected.
  5. Quite a shock to wake up, turn on the Nashville news and see Morgan County tragedy. Of course being raised in Roane County you make many friends in Morgan County and my prayers are with all the families involved. When I heard Morgan, first thing I thought "Whew, it's a good thing Goose is like me...no tornado is taking us anywhere!" So I was very glad to see the goose man posting. Hope the missing are found safe.
  6. I live in Hermitage now and working as the editor for a weekly newspaper in Mt. Juliet. We did do a sports newspaper for a bit, but I am a simple man and not a business man, hehe. Anyway, currently looking into some other "sporting" options and hope to be doing what I truly love again and that's being around the high school sport scene in full force.
  7. Ok, I am glad you are sticking with your belief, but I leave you with this. Our entire argument is that the TSSAA could lower these prices, ever so slightly and it not be such a burden. You have already admitted it was a burden on several parents that you knew, so would it be too much to ask for the TSSAA to realize this and not jack the prices at playoff time?
  8. And now we are at the point once again where you lose your cool. Tsk tsk...you should never let people know when you have lost your cool. this is a public message board...you don't have to ask for my two cents to get them.
  9. "7 bucks will not kill you, if you can't afford 7 bucks something is wrong anyway. quit complaining. " See that comment of yours up there ^? How do you know what a fan can or can't afford? Why is something "wrong" if someone can't afford to take their family or themselves to a game for $7? Answer was just saying that not everyone has a lot of extra money...Tennessee...poor economy...read the paper. While the Answer is not delicate, this is what he meant. Then you jumped....someone called you on it...you jumped again. Take it easy, everything will be much better after puberty.
  10. You know what would make the world a better place? If people could disagree and then debate their disagreement without the use of name calling or the loss of maturity. I love to debate, but when I see someone lose their cool and start calling others names, it shows me a couple of things. One, they are probably wrong. And secondly, they have no ability to interact with people on an adult level. Being able to "communicate" is essential in today's world and it appears much of the youth have quite a bit of trouble with it. As for Answer...he needs to let me borrow some cash!
  11. Bah! Thanks to this website EVERYONE is figuring the TS$$A out for themselves...so no book for me.
  12. There will be two additional features. 1.) A weekly guest column and 2.) Open forum for anyone to write whatever they want to write about. I have a short list of guest columnist and Matt...you were one of them. You have always been good at giving your opinion. This is just something to dabble in and pass the time. I don't get my sports fix as editor of this paper so I wanted to vent. It is also the start of many more things I hope to be doing, as well as some work for our very own Coach T.
  13. According to Vegas this game has GP favored by 2. In my years of dealing with Vegas, that's shaky. I am going with the Jackets, but still can't see how this will be an upset. P.S. Swamp, get your editorial fingers ready. "The Tank Johnson Sports Commentary" site is going to be up and running soon and featuring guest columnist with strong opinions. I have asked CoachT if it was ok that I talked about it here and hope to be his little brother (He said it was fine), but still haven't put the finishing touches on the site. No boards...no posting...just straight opinions from people with half a clue. Hope you will contribute.
  14. Ok, as a special bonus...the next 50 that sign up for Plus Membership, get a free table dance!
  15. A wise man told me when I started this many years ago..."If you can please 3 out of 5 sports fans, you are doing a great job." I took this advice and believe it because fans are very fickle. It's a tough and thankless job and like the Answer said, limitation in space absolutely kills us (speaking for small-town newspapers.) Like other posters have said, it's should all be about the players. That is something I truly believe and hope that every sportswriter on this board keeps that at the top of their agenda as well. I have met MANY in the sports media who were doing it for one reason, to advance themselves and make more money. That is all fine and good, but speaking for myself, writing about our wonderful young athletes has been the highlight of my professional life. It has made me realize what I want to do with the rest of my life and I hope to be involved with it all as long as I am walking and breathing.
  16. I say we let every team in the playoffs. Maybe then those under-paid T$$AA executives can afford to feed their families.
  17. I don't want to kick the guy while he is down...but for someone who was going to change the face of receiving in the NFL, he sure is fragile. I hope he gets better, because his "Future" is bright.
  18. Well, that explains why I didn't hear from R.T. then, hehe. Congratulations to the HMS coaches and players. I really hope they get the coaching situation handled at the high school, because the number of athletes Harriman has coming up from its feeder program is just plain scary for other potential opponents.
  19. Ouch...that really happen Goose? I don't think I have ever got an egg threw at me...literally. By the way, update me on the middle school thing...I haven't heard a word on the score.
  20. Ok ok, you win...it is very obvious if I got in a battle of wits with you, I wouldn't have a chance. So, with that, I bow to your intelligence and knowledge about high school football...you are the master. You are right, we should poke fun of and ridicule high school players. And trash talking is something everyone should do, because like you said with such eloquence, you only live once and should raise some heck. *Tank leaves to find an egg to stink on* [Edited by TankTalk on 11-1-02 8:04A]
  21. Yes my life is very boring...that happens sometimes when you get older and have to pay bills. Did the whole Deliverance thing strike a nerve with you? Perhaps remind you of something?
  22. Listen child, the only thing that upsets me on this thing, is when young men who work hard are made fun of. That's all...so type all you want, you are entitled to.
  23. It is common knowledge that those who must constantly make fun of others...most they have never met, have a major insecurity problem. I think he needs therapy because he seems like a prime candidate to take out the co-workers one day. "Yu shore got a purty mouff boy..." [Edited by TankTalk on 10-31-02 3:32P]
  24. I think it is high time we start a "Children's Corner" board...because it is obvious the popularity of this site has drawn in several who are in need of a diaper change.
