  1. I bleed orange, but sheesh...what happened to people's sense of humor? Society as a whole should loosen up just a bit.
  2. Someone can do their own rankings or be a true football "guru" is to get in their car...and drive...and see every team in the state play the game. But guess what, it isn't going to happen for obvious reasons. You can't trust a computer to do it...or one person to do it...it would take an organization's ratings to be the most effective. Doh! we have that. Some think those rankings are goofy as well, so here is my opinion...you could have the hardest-working crew in the world scout...watch and evaluate every team on a weekly basis and people would still complain about their rankings. That is our nature friends.
  3. Isn't one "self-proclaimed high school football guru" enough? hehe Be careful Jean, I wouldn't want the guru coming after you!
  4. Sounds good...what style, type of Jacket do you have in mind? Pullover, zip, half-zip, button, etc.? And, I would gladly pay the price you mentioned for a good quality, good-looking CoachT polo. Keep working on that one for us if you would. ---rSquared Price is no concern!! Oh wait how much would the pullover kind in big feller sizes be? You should also remember, having CoachT.com on a back my size could be considered great advertsing.
  5. Nothing like a classy post to make you feel good about your home county.
  6. Things like this make it worth it. Heck, on my lowly newspaper salary, even I will toss in my part.
  7. In my opinion...and yes I know, who really cares....I think if you single out a high school player or coach, then it should be erased at the mod's discretion. What happened last year, in the eyes of a few, doesn't pertain to talking about high school football this season. Talk about this year and all the great things you are going to accomplish. But to use this board as a platform for your agenda, which is to bash a coach from last year, is not condusive to the high school morality, which is something many who come here would like to see make a comeback. But, like I said...just an opinion.
  8. I like the polo shirt thing, but I would go nuts over a CoachT.com windbreaker in big feller size.
  9. Well.....ok, but it could be worth something one day.
  10. Each week, we will have a prediction of the upcoming game. Closest to the actual score gets an autographed hacky sack, signed by Goose Lindsay! My selection: Vols 42, Wyoming 14
  11. MAN! Got excited when I saw "4 X-Large" hehe. Us beefy guys who like to wear shirts a size or two bigger would have loved that.
  12. 28-13. Two touchdowns in the fourth quarter give the Tigers breathing room.
  13. Not because I am partial to the county teams, but got to disagree with you. Perhaps someone could get the stats to make sure, but I would have to take our region top to bottom.
  14. Man, seems like everytime the Tigers play Midway, it's a good one. But, it always seems like that fourth quarter belongs to Rockwood. I look for that to stay true to form again. Expect some miscues and mental mistakes because it is the first real game of the season, but Tigers roll.
  15. Hmmm, if you tell a "newspaper" man something and don't want it printed, then you need to have your head examined. Newspaper people, at least the good ones, usually don't print things that would cause problems on the high school level, but they sure don't have to ask permission.
  16. I have to go with Kingston on this one. Harriman still seems to be rebuilding although I was very impressed with their young players last season. Kingston will have a down season, but should do well in this county game. But... I do see this game as very exciting and close. Keep in mind, I have no idea and have not had the honor to see any of these teams, so I really have no idea.
  17. Not going to agree or disagree with you on this one. I know there is no history, but my understanding was it was a fundraiser for the programs themselves. And I think it would be a more effective fundraiser if everyone was involved. When all the smoke has cleared, every player involved puts on their uniform the same...works as hard...and deserves the fundraiser to work and work well.
  18. And I really hated the Cowboys after they did that. Landry was an inspiration and a man of God...and a winner. But, that's the business of pro sports. John was his cousin's nephew's brother...I think.
  19. I ran a 4.2 once.....but we were just going 20 yards My Middle School football coach used to say "My God Tank...I am going to start using a calander to time you with..."
  20. It wouldn't seem fair to expect Kingston to play in the football portion of this fundraiser, without raising an eyebrow at the OS girls for not playing in the basketball event. While going to a national event and just plain 'ol not wanting to play are two different situations, I still would like to see the OS girls play in the county event in the future.
  21. correct me if I am wrong, but they play other teams don't they? The county teams that is? And, if the event us hyped the right way, they could get five opponents that would bring a little more excitement to it. I know the first year, the four county teams played out of county opponents.
  22. You have five quarters? I mean maybe I am making something simple, but if you have five teams, do you not get five opponents to play them? Besides, we all know who are from Roane County, that the five-team jamboree isn't the reason Kingston doesn't play in these. And you talk about gate receipts and concessions, of course that is what I am talking about as well. Who says the county teams have to play each other in these jamborees?? You get five high-profile oppents to come play them. Heck, you could break it up into a Friday night, Saturday after noon event and make more on gate and concessions. But back to "helping out" those in the county. Am I the only one who has a problem with that? What would it hurt to have your team participate in a function that betters the entire county? Kingston wouldn't be asked to participate for free, lol. They would get their share. Trust me, high school athletics are in trouble, even those with the upper-level booster clubs. If something isn't done...something different...something to spark bigger gates more consistently, look out in years down the road. Our State imbeciles continue to fumble our money on a daily basis which is why you see more and more of our educators going South. Call me a wet towell if you want, but if you think the NCAA and their Friday night deal with major conferences won't go by the wayside when the big-money deals start flowing, they you have blinders on. This is just one example of how gates at high school games have decreased and/or have the potential to get even smaller. Personally, I wish the season started later, because watching high school football and wearing shorts and sweating like a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest doesn't seem right to me. Anyway, lost control there for a moment... High School athletics need all the help they can get. They work so hard to put on such a good show for us and get little in return. We should do more than type nice words about them, we should come up with solutions and ideas that make their hard work seem worthwhile.
  23. Looking at your post, I am scratching my head. Why should any team participate in this? Go check out the books and see how much money is funelled to athletic programs from the School Board...then go check at how much it costs to run these programs. This jamboree has the potential to be the biggest rundraiser of the year in Roane County if done correctly. I am fine with Coach King's decision to not play in any jamborees, but I think an exception should be made when the potential to help raise so much money is thrust in front of these county teams. In the future, think of the teams that you all could draw down there for the pre-season jamboree. Then there is this quote from you: I don't know why the rest of the county expects RCHS to change that for their benefit. I am sorry, but that really sounds selfish and kind of what "other" county residents have thought about Kingston for a long time. Which, I know to be different...I hope. 24. I would never flame Vic, because I like him and unlike some of the "diehard" Jacket fans don't believe in that motto "What have you done for me lately." He is a heck of a nice fella and a good football coach. However, I disagree with the Yellow Jackets opting out of the Jamboree. I know the Century Club rocks over there and do an outstanding job with fundraising, but the county could sure use the extended gate Kingston would bring if they were playing. I know many Jacket fans will be attending anyway, but not the amount that would if their team was playing.
  25. I hate to go against the flow here, but the school is two years old. Did anyone really expect them to be a contender in the first few years of competition? That school, by the way, is incredible. Beautiful over complex and ol Tank has a feeling that one day....yes one day...the school will have successful programs. As Wilson County grows, people look at schools when they are bringing their families in to live. This school will attract a few families to that area I think. So, take your shots now and beat them as bad as you can, because one day I think they have the potential to have quality football teams.
