    supplements

The scary thing about supplements is that they haven't been used long enough to know if they are bad or good for you. Supplements, like steroids will work in the initial stages and as long as you are taking them, but if you get off, you lose most of what you have gained. That's when the roller coaster syndrome kicks in. I used to take creatine and it worked as far as weight gain and heavy weight training. My legs cramped like crazy. You have to literally drink multiple gallons of water per day to stay hydrated. Then, when I got off, I lost some strength. I saved my money, worked out and ran hard, ate right, and gained more strength than ever-that's the real self-esteem builder-knowing you did it natural. Like someone said earlier, research and make your own decisions-don't listen to meat heads at the gym who only worry about muscle size instead of the overall fitness of an athlete. What most lifters don't realize about creatine is that your body produces it anyway, and you are actually adding to instead of supplementing. Long uses of it will limit your body's ability to produce it's own. Then you start getting in trouble.
  2. Is Mcminn going to rebound after losing a good coach? Where did Lane Corum end up after leaving Heritage? Dickey was overhyped to say the least. It's hard to not pick ORidge because they are always going to have a gamebreaker in the backfield that can give you fits. Blount with Meadows leading the way will be worth a few wins more a year. It looks like in 2-5a and 1-5a that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes are more wide open than ever. I don't believe there is a clear cut #2 in either region. This is one of the million reasons why football is the greatest sport on Earth. On a totally different file, congrats to the NFL for sticking to it's guns on not wanting 18, 19, and 20 year-olds in the league. Most fans of any sport.
  3. Thanks. Has any other school ever had a LB tandem like the Pats when they had those guys? Besides LT and Carson of the Giants in the 80's.
  4. Although Dustin Moore was a talent at TE for UT, he was a TB at Greenville. Good call on Spradlin and Davis. Blankenship was a tough player.
  5. ORidge, WBlount -What does Farragut have coming back?
  6. Herschel Walker is a rare breed of athlete, but he also got banged up a bit in the pros when he couldn't just out athlete anyone anymore. -If working out with weights, plyometric training, agility training, flexibility, and speed training isn't benefitial to winning football games, I would like to know what is, so I can get my guys ready to play. Help me out Mustang.
  7. QB's: Todd Helton(knox cent), Jason Price (Farragut), Joey Mathews (Sev.Co) Shane Kelly(Sev Co), Pennington excelled in college/pros-not as much in high school. RB's: Lee Roy Thompson (AE), Reggie Cobb, Kippy Bayless (Knox Cent), Travis Cozart (Lenoir City), Scotty Witt (Clinton), Bohanon, Summers (ORidge) WR's: Billy Williams (Alcoa), kid from Clinton(96-97), Gipson (ORidge) TE: Von Reeves (AE), Shannon Mitchell (Alcoa) OL/DL: Jason Layman (Sev Co), Spencer Riley (Jeff Co), Randy Hall (Halls), Rudy Stinson (Powell) LB: Todd Collins, Brent Collins (Jeff Co), Mike Caldwell (ORidge), James Bates (Sev Co), Jeff County had another guy that played alongside Todd Collins that was a stud-can't remember his name. DB: Cozart, Summers, Julian(Halls), and Todd Helton was a great free-safety-I always thought he was overlooked there.
  8. well said 1stdown. Strength coaches are essential whether they are certified or not. You win or lose games in the off season and pre-season with strength and speed programs. No, the "Bear" didn't use them much, but neither did anyone else. If you don't take the weightroom serious today, you don't have a chance to be successful on the field.

Being timed by hand is pretty accurate when you have multiple coaches timing each runner.
  10. If you said it was years ago, then why would it matter if they hired someone local now? I do know what goes on in schools, I must be spoiled and dumb enough to think that a legit coach would play the best 11 at a time. Every team I've been on or coached, there wasn't anyone that wasn't playing that should have been. Like anything else in the world, there is exceptions to the norm. I didn't mean to ruffle your Patriot feathers. I have tremendous respect for Jeff Co, and have several great friends that played there-never heard them complain. Just posting my thoughts, nothing personal.
  11. I guess the good ole boy network took Todd and Brent Collins straight to the NFL. I'm not from there, but surely they played as underclassmen. I've heard nothing of playing favorites over there. Think about it, what coach in their right mind would play a kid that was the weaker player over a more talented kid(unless the more talented kid was a discipline problem, didn't play hard,etc.). I don't ever buy the playing favorites in modern day high school football-there's pressure to win, more so than there were 25 years ago. The blame game of coaches usually stems from a player that always thought he got a raw deal. I don't know, that's just usually the case. Isn't Chuck King (Cumberland College) a Jeff. Co. alumni?

    40 times

We test in the 20 and 40. If you are faster than a 4.7 in the 40, then in Tennessee you are considered pretty fast. Currently, we have one guy that is mid 4.5's consistently, and about four guys that hit 4.6 every now and then. There is a lot of 4.3 talk, and 99% of it is false. However, I do believe that Houston is a 4.3/4.4 guy. He might be the only guy that I've seen in East Tn the last 5 years that could run like that. Fulton had a kid that could go, and I remember when Billy Williams played at Alcoa-he was scary fast. As far as classifications having anything to do with it, only because your bigger schools have more odds at having a faster player. In my opinion, the fastest teams that I see year in and year out are smaller schools such as Fulton, Austin East, Alcoa. Obviously, Oak Ridge has it's speed guys and every so often, Jeff and DB have some guys that can roll. Each team usually has a burner, but few teams have waves of speed they can throw at you. Now, if you can teach that player that can run to tackle and run through tackles, then you have your player.

    5A Region 1

I was impressed with your QB last season. Does he play baseball? Does Coach Patton and Coach "Possum" Dixon still coach? Both are great guys that could play a little themselves back in the day.
  14. If the game is at Sevier County, you Bearden guys better leave school early-due to the Dollywood parade in Pigeon Forge. Pigeon Forge schools let out at 2:00 due the congested traffic. Just a little heads up. You all might consider Chapman Highway instead of the interstate because they are expecting around 100,000 to attend.

    5A Region 1

The Campbell Co running back will be a junior next fall. Bearden lost some to graduation at some key spots. Jeff lost a lot of points(Clement, Jennings, Houston, Brown). Obviously, Region 1 will have to go through DB until someone can prove otherwise on the field. Coach Clark will have his guys ready regardless of whether the playmaker plays or not. Sevier County is returning a lot of starters from last year that got valuable experience getting their ears laid back-should be improved. Karns is the team that was born last year, and the word is that their off season is full of new players who are excited about the program.-could be scary for the rest of the region. South Doyle played several young guys last year, and always has the skill position potential. As someone posted earlier, S.Hill lost some valuable seniors. This is the first time in a while that I can remember that there is no definite top 2 in the region. I believe that DB is the favorite, with 2,3,4 being depends on whose "fill-in" players improve the most.
  16. I watched the Bears play against Heritage and came out of there feeling good about the baseball program. Not that a loss is ever good, but they were a hit or two from it being a different outcome. A few of things that I saw going on were kids knowing what to do with the baseball, hustling, and most of all, competing. You don't just win games overnight. SC has the right man, and has a heck of a pitching coach to go with him. If you guys keep competing and ignore all of the negative remarks that has tended to go along with a program with not much success, you will win some games. You all have had a chance to win every game you have played-just lost some in an inning burst of runs. You look solid defensively, Book is the only pitcher I've seen-and he is a solid arm that gives you a chance to win, along with his glove and ability to make contact with the bat and ball as a hitter. People get mistaken on talent a lot. They tend to think that you are born with it-some cases that's true, but the most talented and successful athletes are the hardest workers. At the age of 38, Cal Ripken,Jr. woke up every day at 6:00a.m. to take his daily 500 cuts on the tee.-and by 38 he had been a major league all-star over 10 times. You guys keep working, and good things will happen.
  17. none of this is any of my business, but a guy with absolutely no school pride should probably consider changing their screen name. I have no idea who you are and don't care, but when a student from his school badmouths their own athletic program, you either have a loser's attitude or you don't have much going for you in the common sense department. Your type of attitude is the very same attitude that will lose and then find everything in the world to blame besides yourself. Sense you are only a high schooler, you still have a chance to grow up and become accountable. Remember, it's easier to point your finger at another, but there is much more gained at pointing it at yourself and learning from it. Good Luck.
  18. If i got cut from SC then how would i have a farragut name. You are only aloud one name on this site you goob. Go Admirals. We waxed halls like 13-1 last night. And congrats to SC on getting waxed tomorrow by Seymour. hey buddy, it's not "aloud", it's "allowed" , and you can have as many names as you like as long as you have multiple e-mail accounts. Farragut guys are usually intelligent enough to know the difference when to use "there" or "their". If you are going to get on here and bad-mouth people, don't hide behind a great program to do it.
  19. I went to school with Stansbury at CN, very intelligent baseball mind-good guy too.
  20. It doesn't surprise me at all to see Humphrey have success. I hope everyone noticed him smiling after he hit that free-throw toward the end of regulation-a lot of people might think that is cocky, but all I thought that he was thinking was, "I've hit this shot a million times in the gym before school at Maryville." Didn't UT lack some serious shooting this year? The word I got from UT last year was that Humphrey was a liability on defense-that's the all-time great recruiting mistake that I've heard. Does anyone on here think that Bradshaw could have got the job done at Florida like Humphrey has? UT is in desperate need of players in the mold of Humprhey.
  21. This is Sevier County's best group of freshman in atleast 12-15 years. First 5 on the freshman team will have an immediate say in the huge turnaround over the next 3 years. The 20 loss seasons are over. 2 talented PG's, big man, a defensive stopper, and a kid who is all-around-rangy that will be better than PJ Burden that played a few years back with the Bears. Only had 1 loss during the freshman season.
  22. Sevier county may play these teams, but seriously how close is the game going to be? i think that Morristown West is planning on pitching a freshman against them and Cocke Co. might break their ace out, who throws about 50 mph, but hey atleast he throws harder than Butcher, who has an arch on his fastball and is sevier co.'s ace. I'll going to go out on a limb here and say that sevier co. might score a run or two, but if this fall was any indication the game will be over before the end of the top half of the first. You are right SC is horrible..........they won't even win 2 games....... goadmirals04: you can run that jaw when your program is always loaded. All SC is trying to do is build some confidence in themselves-let it be. Farragut shouldn't ever lose to anybody in East Tennessee, and it's been that way for a while with a top-notch coach. These two programs are looking out of 2 different windows, but SC is taking the baby steps that are essential in order to build a winner. You all talk about state championships, they are working on competing and gaining pride in their program-which is the right way to approach it. If their coach stays put, SC will be a winner in a few years. I've always been impressed with the Farragut baseball program and their coach, and I believe that SC has landed a guy that is young and that hammers the details of the game like Pharr has his whole career, a few years of that will make a world of difference in their program. When pride gets installed, then more players get interested. Sevier County's biggest problem is the little league programs of the past, but I've learned that is changing.
  23. with her much talked about work-ethic, I'm anxious to see her improve her game even more. If she is UT's 10th best player, then UT is LOADED. She would actually play as a freshman. I'm not trying to sound over the top, but I'm not so sure she couldn't help them at PG right now. She's a can't miss.
  24. P.F. has got some shooters. If Alcoa does pull it out, it won' t be a runaway. I would be pulling folding chairs out, aluminum bleachers, standing room around the gym before I would play a Sectional "home" game anywhere else besides my home court. Just let the players' parents in, both schools' students(pre-sold), and some pre-paid reserved tickets for both school's fans. TSSAA is all about the money. P.Forge and Powell won their way for the right to play a game at home, and can't due to capacity issues. This is a first for me. Has this ever happened?
  25. red81, is being on coacht part of the curriculum where you teach? Don't let a few young bucks taint your image of the purple haze-most of us "old heads" are pretty laid back and call a loss a loss and a win a win. By the way, good luck in your new adventure, it's a good fit.
