  1. I hate this site!!! Not really. I am just addicted to the T. I spend way to much time on this site!!!
  2. It is my opinion that students should not be allowed to participate in AAU events during the school year. By playing basketball or other sprots year round, I think we are doing a huge disservice to these young athletes. Let the kids play football in the fall, not baseball. Let the kids play baseball or run track in the spring, not basketball. This will serve to make the athletes more rounded and not have them "put all their eggs in one basket". I know people will say, "If they want to play these other sports, they can. No one is stopping them. " However, let's be real. We have people coaching these AAU teams who are not willing to work around the school sponsered sport, so it is the in season sport that must work around AAU. These AAU coaches, for the most part, are guys who are not educated enough to be teacher/coaches or do not have the moral background to do so. These coaches are totally against "sharing" their players with other sports and often flat out lie to the kids about scholarship potential. Let's face it, not many college level basketball players are playing in the state of TN. These kids need to be told that earning a football or baseball scholarship is much more likely on pure mathematics. 85 D1 scholarships for football, 18 for baseball while only 12 for basketball.
  3. It does not matter, you guys are running for second place in the conference because Jeff. Co. will win both the girls (for the 6th straight year and 8 of the last 10) and the boys (3rd straight) titles. Just like always, you will watch as Jeff. Co. takes the victory lap.
  4. At Jeff. Co., the records are old. The discus record, which is also the state record I believe, was set in 1987 by Todd Collins at 187+ feet. The shot record is 60+ feet by Joe Ewing in the early 80s. The high jump record was set in 1976 or so by Avory Huff at 6'7". The girls high jump record was set 2 years ago by Laura Malnati and Amy Cate at 5'8". Amy also set the 800m record with a 2:19. About all I can remember. I will try to find out some more.
  5. I think drug testing of student athletes at the high school level is way past due. I believe that the drug test would give a kid who is thinking about doing drugs and/or alcohol an excuse not to. A lot of times this is all they need. The problem is the expense. Most high school budgets are strapped already and being cut all the time. Drug testing, last I checked, cost about $45 dollars per athlete. Multiple that by 200 athletes in a smaller school, and that is a cost of $9000.
  6. I agree with you Waco about upper East TN. Bradley might not agree with us on the entire East TN comment.
  7. I found it very interesting that the AAA bracket first round games were not even close. I am not trashing any teams, but I do find it very interesting that the A and AA games, with a couple of exceptions, were much more contested games than the AAA. Any thoughts as to why this would happen?
  8. No one is doubting Coach Holland's knowledge of the game. I do question his relationships with his players the past couple of years and the results his teams have produced the past few years. Holland knows a lot but I wonder if he can relate to today's kids!!
  9. Has anyone thought about the fact that some of these games are during school hours or on schools nights. There is no way a student can drive two hours for a game that starts at 8:30 and be expected at school the next day!!!
  10. The problem at Jeff. Co. is that the talk for 10 years or more is that Holland will or needs to retire. I just hope the kids play hard and compete. No doubt the region will be tough with Science Hill and DB, but maybe the Pats can get enough pitching to survive. Any word if Parker is pitching?
  11. Is Parker pitching this year?
  12. I hope Sevier Co. is able to surprise some folks. Their new coach is a great guy and I think he will do well building the program at SC. On the other hand, Holland needs to get back to loving the game and the kids. He has really changed over the past few years. Of course, he did coach Ty Cobb. It may be time to go!!!
  13. Your vote for best coach is about as good of choice as your pick for best QB. Way off base!! Your coach intentionally threw a game in the district tourney (according to friends in the area, did not see it myself) just so he would not have to meet Bradley until the region final. It worked out because you are in the 'Boro, but the best coach does not intentionally lose games!!!
  14. due to the subpar coverage of high school baseball by the Knoxville News Sentinel, I have not been able to keep up with the progress of these two programs. Anyone have any info on these two squads?
  15. It will be tough to beat White Station without Pickel being in the line-up.
  16. I have watched him play a few times over the past two seasons and he can really play. I look for him to make an immediate impact with an NFL team this year.
  17. With Pat Summitt, I doubt many NCAA violations are occuring. Remember, this ain't fat Phil and the boys.
  18. This is not true, as this is an NCAA violation. However, she has played with the Lady Vols at camps during the summer. As for proof, she lead a team that had not been past the first round of the region tournament in years to the substate game in which she scored 40. She averaged over 26 pts a game in the tournaments and continues to amaze people with her defense and competitiveness.
  19. So much for the thoughts of the everwise schsbears, who said how weak middle TN was this year. Of course, they also said Sevier Co. would be in the 'boro.
  20. I know she will be at Heritage for two more years, but where will she go to school? I think Coach Rines needs to recruit her to play for the boys team. She is absolutely the best player I have ever seen in high school girls ball.
  21. I agree, averagejoe! The Lady Pats had a great year after a rough early season stretch. They really played well against Powell and have nothing to be ashamed of.
  22. With a healthy Buckalew, Bradley Co. and the winners from upper East TN should represent our side of the state very well.
  23. I do not think that anyone is bashing the teams on here. I know I am not. I am bashing these idiot punks who get on here and talk smack and then run and hide when the heat is turned up on them.
  24. I thought this thread was about Sevier Co. Take your Mt. Juliet-Shelbyville discussion elsewhere. There is no doubt that Shelbyville is the best girls program in this state, but this thread is about teaching these young punks in purpleville that they should be very careful posting when your team is average at best!!!
  25. First of all, it is red81. Secondly, I have told you repeatedly that I am a Jeff. Co. fan. And I believe you told me that I could listen to the state tournament on your radio station. If you are going to talk, be ready to get it handed back to you. Jeff. Co. plays tonight and you will be playing with yourself.
