  1. Great post Randy ! Hats off to a great group of kids who earned the right to play for all the marbles. I have said it before and I will say it again. I think the road to the 'Boro will make a detour through Mo'West for several years to come. Why not? When all you have to do is beat Greeneville and directional Sullivan Co. teams to get to the semis, it should at least have a pit stop in M-town.
  2. Check out the records. Meadows has done it at three different schools. Even though Alcoa and Jeff.co. have great traditions, he won at Sequoya for two years and they haven't won since. GQ is a heckuva coach and a great guy, and I am not in any way trying to say one is any better than the other (1-1 record head to head). All I am saying is that hiring Scott Meadows would send a message to the WB community that they are serious about winning.
  3. I saw a spot on ESPN about the Garrett family and all the coaches that have come from this one family. I started thinking about TN high schools and wondered how many father-son, brother-brother, or even in-laws out there.
  4. All of this talk about Maryville recruiting is getting old. Success breeds success, and if WB or Heritage could win on a consistant basis, then maybe the players would come to those schools. Do not accuse Maryville of illegal activities when the kids just want to win.
  5. I don't know about alltime, but the most dominate back I have seen in high school was Ricky Upton from Jefferson Co. He had over 2000 yards as a senior, played in the state title game as a soph., and really carried a team who had absolutely no talent his senior year. Started this past season for Penn St.
  6. How could William Blount not give the job to Coach Meadows, if indeed he has applied. The man has won a lot wherever he has been. The people on this thread say they want the Blount County schools to do the right thing and that they want a winner. Meadows is as good at winning at GQ at Maryville.
  7. He was at Catholic for 10 years.
  8. New administrator was an idiot and made life fairly tough on all those whom SHE did not hire into leadership positions.
  9. Coach Chait would be an excellent choice to lead the Clinton program. He took over a Catholic program that was in turmoil and turned it into a winner. He has coached around the Knoxville area for almost 20 years, and has been both an offensive and defensive coordinator. He also is great with community relations. if Clinton wants to win quickly, then hire Chait!!
  10. Mr. Class himself Fanney is caught exercising excellent sportsmanship in the pictures on this website!!!!!
  11. If you are going to throw the ball, you must protect the QB. Most offensive lineman in high school struggle with the footwork necessary to pick up speed rushers and blitzes. This is why most teams run the ball. Plus, if you have to play in inclement weather, the officials do not do a very good job of keeping a dry ball in the game.
  12. William Blount, by far. The program at Heritage has never been really good. It will be extremely difficult to turn a losing attitude around. At least William Blount has been to the playoffs before. I do not think that either of these schools will ever be able to contend for a state title as long as Maryville and Alcoa exist.
  13. What is the problem? I saw most of these kids play, and do not have aproblem with any of the selections based on the stats and what I saw. I think the writers did a fairly good job.
  14. I agree that 5 rounds of the playoffs is a little much, especially with 5 classes. If there were fewer classes, then the amount of teams in the playoffs would be fewer and the games more competitive. Also, it would bring back the more geographical rivals.
  15. As I watched the 5 state championship games, I started thinking about the level of competition each team had to contend with to get there. It clearly looked to me that Fulton and Hillsboro would have been a great game against each other. Fulton plays in a region that is no doubt the toughest in the state at the 3A level. They must play AE and Anderson County in their region, but who else is there at the 3A level since Ridgeway is now 4A. Speaking of 4A, how easy is Morristown West's trip to the semis? Beat whoever out of upper East Tn (Elizabethton, TN High or directional Sullivan Co. are never really that good), play Greeneville (very up and down team) and you are in the semis. Let Cleveland, Knox Central, and Maryville battle it out and be fresh for the semifinal game. No other tough game. To me, the only class that is truly tough across the state is 5A. DB and Jeff. Co. in region 1, Oak Ridge in region 2, Lincoln Co. in Region 3, Riverdale in 4, Brentwood and Franklin in 5, and so on. Even though the $$ is too good now for the TSSAA, I think 3 or 4 classes would provide more competition at every level. Let's here what you think?
  16. Congratulations to Fulton High School. Coach Coatney did a great job getting his team back to the 'Boro. I would like to especially congratulate Bob Black, a long time coach who has been at Fulton since the Mayflower. I know that he is very happy with the year. It is good to see a great man get the ring.
  17. Officiating a game is very difficult, I am sure. The fact that most of these guys are fat and out of shape makes it that much more difficult. However, there is little or nothing done about officials who make horrible calls. Players have to live with these bad calls and can even have their football careers ended by questionable or outright wrong calls. On a graver note, coaches can lose their jobs based on wins and losses, and a call can cause a coach to lose his way of providing for a family. I just wish there was a way these officals could have this emphasised to them. As for the playoffs, I think the officals should not have called any games involving the two playoff teams that year.
  18. Clinton - DC from Oak Ridge South-Doyle- I doubt Chandler Gibbs - does not need one Heritage - who wants it!!! William Blount - Who wants it!!! Jeff. Co.- He ain't leavin'
  19. If snagglepuss is a MoWest fan, then he represents the typical, old school Trojan fan. I thought after a few wins, the West fans would know how to win. I guess not all of them can get rid of the fact that they are one way mfers. If it is going good, they are total . If they lose, they cannot be found.
  20. I do not think that Coach Gray will be offered another job in the Blount Co. after last year with Alcoa. The school board was prepared to wave their policy on years of experience. They were bending over backwards for him and then he turned them down. If I am in Blount Co., I would not even consider him, even though he is a quality coach.
  21. It seems to me that high school football runs in cycles lasting about 10 years. In the 1970s, Oak Ridge and Tennessee High ruled East TN football. Then, in the 1980s, Jefferson County and Rhea County dominated. In the 1990s, Oak Ridge returned, along with Knox Central. Sevier County had a good five year run, and Kingsport has been consistent in the later part of the 1990s until the present. After this group of seniors, they seem to be on their way down. The same patterns can be seen in Murfreesboro with Oakland and Riverdale. Memphis has seen Germantown rise and fall and then comeback. My point is that maryville has had a great run and they may have some time left on their cycle, but sooner or later the well will run dry.
  22. Carson Newman is very interested in Trey Jackson. Next year, Doodle should get a lot of looks.
  23. WacoJaco, Look at college football rosters and pay attention to the states these playes are from. Not too many from TN. Most are from FL, TX, CA, and MS. Too many more post and people will be calling you WackoJacko
  24. It is nice to finally see that Morristown West has learned how to win. I know over the past five years, as West has began to win consistantly, their fans have been totally classless. I hope they win in the 'Boro and finally get over the big hump.
