  1. Hey Randy! Good to hear from you! To answer your question about our broadcast, Mark Johnson is doing analysis again this year and Brian keeps the official team stats (and shares them with the listeners). If you go to our website www.weye.us and link to Volunteer Sports, you can audio stream the broadcast on your computer. We have several people living out of the area that we've heard from who listen to the audio streaming. It's a nice way to keep up with the team. Hope all is well. Just a quick note...I think Seth did a remarkable job last Friday all things considering. I was very impressed with our freshman punter on his first varsity play which could have been a complete disaster (remember North in 2002?). The offensive line answered a lot of questions, and Jarvis...well he's still Jarvis and going strong. Good luck Friday Falcons. My feelings are well documented on this game (we should NEVER lose it).
  2. Thanks for the comments Todd. You lead the Falcons through a great 20 win season and have a lot of reasons to be proud of your players. Anyone who's ever suited up for any sport knows how bad losing stinks, but the Falcons handled it with class. I think that is a direct reflection of you, Wes, Brandon and Henry. Good luck to all the East Tennessee teams that are moving on to the Tennessee Big Dance!
  3. You have to go with the Watauga Conference Player of the Year his sophmore and junior year: Charles Lindholm. All year the only defense that truly stopped him was a virus... Congratulation Chucky on a record setting year and second Conference MVP. Also, congratulations to the Lady Cyclones for their first regional title.
  4. GREAT 20 win season! Good luck to JC, Michael (Frampton) and Matt. Hats off to South Greene. A sophmore off the bench hits the winning shot at the buzzer...this team doesn't play like the young team that it is (one starting senior). I think we need supernatural help to get past this regional curse... Good luck Sullivan Central and Happy Valley. District 1 AA is behind you (too bad you have to play each other)! Stay positive Falcon fans...our players deserve that.
  5. Good luck tonight Falcons....and congratulations to Chucky...in advance.
  6. WOW...Irish you're stirring some good (and some bad) memories with that last post. PATIENCE!!!!! TRIANGLE!!!!!!! Each year you mentioned were very good teams. I have to say in the now 11 years of covering Falcon basketball, Mr. Lindholm is as good as I've seen in blue and orange. I don't mean to slight some really good players, but Chucky gets it done night in and night out, and teams can't stop him knowing he's coming to play. I watched in amazement tonight as he was triple teamed on the post, knocked to the ground and still managed to get up and score (and note he didn't complain about being mugged either). This guy deserves to be the conference player of the year again. He'll be the first to tell you he can't do it alone, and Chucky has a great team around him this year. Everyone come out Friday night and watch a moment in Volunteer sports history. I don't doubt he will have 8 points before the half. Two scoring records in one year by two different players (Jacob Frazier single game total)....shaping up to be a very special season. Thanks for the info A.D.
  7. Congrats to the Falcons on another good season. Good luck to the seniors as you leave Volunteer to wherever you go. After that last game...kinda know where I'm coming from on losing with class? Well, the example from our opponent was what we don't want...ever. Thanks to all the CoachTer's for the info you sent my way on Volunteer history. It was much appreciated. Now...on to the hardwood!!!!!!!!!
  8. Volunteer 28 Cocke Co 7 This is not just a 'rah-rah' pick. I've got a feeling a lot of frustrations will be taken out on the Cockes Thursday night. Somebody remind this bunch we've never beaten this team (I resisted the pun) and owe them from last year. Finish it off Falcons...for the seniors.
  9. Please encourage everyone to come to the Thursday night game against Cocke County. Since it's Senior Night, we need to show our appeciation to the bunch leaving. And hey, we'll be playing for a 5-5 record against the team that denied us 7 wins last year. We've never beat Cocke County , so there's even more reason to be up for the game. Thanks for playing until the end last night Falcons. You were beat by THE team in our conference, but made a respectable showing. Also, hats off to Coach Woods of West. We appreciate the classy manner in which you called the dogs off. Good luck in the playoffs.
  10. From a great source... The Cherokee player in question IS in school (although he was tossed out of his apartment), but he is playing hurt (knee and groin). He probably won't and can't play an entire game, but everyone else who has been hurt is fairly healthy. The player in question didn't play in the second half of the Crockett game due to the groin injury. This guy has had a lot of personal problems (most self-induced), but I truly hope the kid stays in school. I hate we let him beat us almost by himself, but I know noone at VHS wishes bad things for this kid. Anyway...we need to win to get in and not worry about backing into the playoffs. Beat Cherokee and East (both were well within reason), and we are discussing where we are playing...not if. Good luck Falcons...they can only play 11 at a time.
  11. WEYE was trying to sponsor Jim Dykes bobble-head doll night on Thursday, but the toy engineers couldn't work out the specs to keep the things from falling over. Apparently the head can only be so big....go figure. Oh well, should be warm in the press box if I understand CHHS right. Good luck Falcons...let's make headlines.
  12. We are developing a very bad reputation around our sports programs as being the 'cry baby' school. Do we really want this? Fans blame coaches, coaches blame officials (and fans blame official)...exactly where do we teach the student athletes about responsibilty and accountability in all of this? No amount of griping will ever change the outcome of a game...but properly conditioned, prepared and motivated players might (not always). Have we lost some heartbreakers? Most certain. But teaching kids to shift the blame is the wrong way to deal with the loses. As I have said before, it's easy to coach and officiate from the stands. Let's win with class and lose with class. That's the only win-win situation.
  13. THANKS! I appreciate all the info that has come from my request on here. Apparently, a lot of people read but don't post (no problem with that). Keep the information coming, even if you don't think it is important. Everything helps. www.weye.us
  14. Any active coach that plays in a stadium or on a field named after him...
  15. Yep...the game starts at 6:30 on Tuesday. We'll air around 6:15. Good luck Falcons...
  16. FYI- WEYE 104.3 FM will be broadcasting the Church Hill Middle School game versus Ketron on Tuesday starting at 6:30. I hope everyone comes to the game, especially since it's homecoming, but for family not able or out of the area, be sure to pass the word along. It can also be heard live at our website www.weye.us. Just click on the listen link for the audio stream. Good luck Panthers...look forward to seeing you play.
  17. RIBS!!!!! Now we're talking! Missed it bad last week...unfortunately...this week: Volunteer 35 Bloomingdale 0 Prove me right defense...pitch the shutout. Just picture North wearing green...that should help.
  18. Wow...sounds like a couple of people need to meet out behind the barn and settle this thing...without or without their panties. On the other matter, I'm not a big fan of the wingT...but I like the things Coach Jones can do with it. The Central game was an excellent display of mixing things up. Remember, two of our touchdowns were on pass plays AFTER the run had been established. I also appreciate the fact that Volunteer has now had the same head coach for over seven seasons. Too many coaches came and went during the 80's and 90's. We never had stability, which I believe (combined with jerking around conferences and classifications) hurt our program in a lot of ways. Like him or not, the Falcon's head coach has posted more wins than anyone else (27), the only winning season, and he has a good number of athletes in uniform. Okay, I'm a Coach Veneable fan obviously...but I'm also glad given his personal circumstances in recent years that he's stuck it out with the Falcons. How many of us would have done the same? Give 'em a break guys...the two easiest things to do in sports is coach and officiate from the bleacher.
  19. Wow...things get ugly after a loss! Face it Falcon fans, we got our behinds kicked by a team on a mission. Think Greeneville was a little PO'd by some picking Volunteer ahead of them in pre-season polls. If you drive by their stadium this morning, #12 is still running, because nobody's tackled him yet! He's the real deal... Chalk this loss up to Strickler and White...just kidding. Why didn't you guys onside kick? Put it behind you...Homecoming is this week. We owe our good friends from Bloomingdale a few from years gone by...Yep, I forgive and remember.
  20. Last week, Greeneville had 426 total yards to Elizabethton's 128 total yards...at ELIZABETHTON!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greeneville can score points, their low output is 9 against Anderson County. Last week, the Falcons did a good job containing Harvey and Frye...they'll need to do the same on Greenway and Gash this week. Since I'm always a Falcon fan... Volunteer 28 Greenies 16 Falcons go up early and hold on for the win to stun the Homecoming crowd!
  21. One of the best overall efforts by every aspect of the team I've seen. The defense answered the call not once but twice in very tough situations. Dustin Fugate was a man on a mission. The O-line played a fantastic game. Billy Cross made several down field blocks that made big plays for the running game. WOW...this team can definately go to Greeneville and get a win. Keep in mind that was the best offensive team to date in Region 1 4A. Will we see them again? I hope so. Our Players of the Game were Dustin Fugate and Brandon Fleming...but it really could have been anyone of 7 or 8 people. Great job Falcon coaches and players!
  22. Hey Art... What happened to latex?
  23. I watched Central vs East on TV 13's game of the week late last night (yeah, my life's that boring), and they looked a little shaky on defense. The quarterback runs the wing-T pretty skillfully, and they definately favor running to the right side. The O'line looked pretty big, but they didn't dominate East's defensive line like we did in the first half and much of the second. I like the match-up. They win the size match-up, we win the speed match-up. Look for a high score- Volunteer 35 Central 28
  24. Who was the leading rusher for the Falcons in the 80's?
