  9. > Wouldn't have been better if he just did not ref a match in which his brother's team was involved?
  10. I got this e-mail today. www.jonesstreamcasting is offering you as a user the match at the state tournament, where Cleveland Senior Max Ofori (46-1) Vs Nick White of Cookeville. This is the first time in the history of TSSAA that a wrestler has won the state championship WITHOUT scoring a single point. Thanks to Nashville Referee Tim Abel, that is exactly what happened! Coaches, fans, other referees were shocked at State championship was decided like this. There were 4 penalty points awarded to Cookeville and 1 to Cleveland before the final disqualification. Ofori scores a 2nd period escape for the only score of the match. BEFORE YOU WATCH you must know some things about Max Ofori. He is a 4.0 student considering Harvard, West Point, American University and other Ivy league schools. He is such a FAST study that this is only his 2nd year wrestling and he was 46-1... and in the state championship finals. He was the leader in the Chattanooga times area take downs listing by more than 20 ahead of the next guy, the only 215 pounder to lead that we know of. He has used the "tap and go" and attack the head his whole two years with out a single penalty. This was his 47th match this year doing this! He beat Nick White by major the first time and decision the 2nd time. Max is a very bright guy, he "gets it." You do not have to warn him 4 times! In this case, he didn't have a clue what referee Tim Abel was seeing. We understand that maybe Nick White had a cauliflower ear and loosened his head gear kind of like a football player having a "tear away jersey." BUT, you don't see the head gear move. Most of you have seen headgear come off or be twisted many times without penalty. THIS SEEMS TO BE A CLEAR CASE OF ONE REFEREE INTERPRETING THE RULES DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHER 47 REFEREES that called his matches this year. Nick White did a great job and expressed his concern to Max Ofori. He is a great wrestler but Nick White will bear the cross of referee Tim Abel's judgment that taints his championship. That is a cross, we at Jonesstreamcasting hope no wrestlers should have to bear in the future. see: www.jonesstreamcasting.com click on " controversial state championship match Ofori 215lbs or at youtube

  12. June 21-July 4th is the Dead Period for ALL Sports. Wrestling has a Dead Period for 21 days after the end of the State Tournament.
  13. We do know that UTC has made arrangements so the Finals will be on Saturday. No parking problems on Saturday. I would think the TSSAA sets the price of the event. No one made mention of the "Day" ticket opposed to the "Session" ticket. Wasn't there up to 5 sessions in the past?
  14. While I think there should be a "Youth" price ......... It was $10 a DAY instead of $10 a session. I believe in the past there has been 5 sessions.
  15. They parked cars at Engel Stadium because school was going on at UTC and they take up a lot of parking spots.
  16. I understand the first two days were about the same. The finals were down some.
  17. Glad to know that about 80% of the fans that were there didn't know what they were seeing. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  18. From John Hunt's story in Chattanoogan.com: He was looking for his first state title, but the soft-spoken Blue Raider lost by disqualification when he was penalized for the fourth time for supposedly grabbing White??™s headgear. Nashville??™s Tim Abel was the referee in charge and he was the one who made the call that ended the match prematurely. Cleveland coaches Heath Eslinger and Al Miller were both infuriated by the turn of events. Soddy Daisy??™s Steve Henry and Bradley??™s Steve Logsdon weren??™t very happy either. ???That kid??™s headgear was so loose that it shook every time his head moved,??? stated Miller, who served as the head man for the Blue Raiders for many years. ???I??™ve been at the state tournament every year since 1966 and that??™s the first time I??™ve ever seen a referee take a match away like that. "It??™s like he always wants to be the center of attention, but it??™s so unfair to decide a championship match in such a questionable manner,??? Miller added. ???Life??™s not fair and we just have to move on and learn from it,??? Eslinger said several minutes after the emotionally-charged event transpired. ???Max Ofori is such a great kid and I hate it for his sake, but 20 years from now, he??™ll still be a great person because he??™s just a great person. ???We lost a tough match in an unfortunate situation, but you know what? There??™s probably a parent down the street at Erlanger Hospital who just lost a child, so we have to keep these things in perspective. ???These last 20 minutes have been very hard, but I??™ve had a chance to teach my kids so much more than just the benefits of wrestling. "I??™m trying to make a difference in their lives and that??™s why I??™m in this business. We??™ll just have to learn from our mistakes,??? Eslinger added. ???That??™s an awful way for this tournament to end,??? said Logsdon a few minutes after it happened. ???It??™s just not fair to Max or the guy from Cookeville. His win is tarnished by the way it ended, but Max just got robbed. That should have never happened. ???Cleveland is one of our biggest rivals, but I care about their kids and their successes. I??™m heartbroken for Max Ofori and the way his match ended tonight,??? Logsdon nodded. ???I??™m happy and sad at the same time for the way this tournament turned out. I??™m happy for the way we wrestled, but I??™m just gut-sick over that match at 215,??? Henry nodded.
  19. It was all on calls for grabbing headgear. I thought maybe 2 could have been called. The 2 point call and then the DQ were both called very quick. Ofori couldn't put his hand up near White's head without a call being made. I feel bad for BOTH guys. One didn't get his chance and the win will always be a little tainted.
  20. Showing Bias??? You said he was "Belittling everything not Chattanooga". I show parts of the article were that was not the case and I'm showing Bias?
  21. If it was "Guaranteed" two years ago the finals would have taken place on Saturday. Last year the finals were held on Saturday.
  22. Belittle everything not Chattanooga?? Maybe you missed these parts of Ward's article ......... Certainly no one complained about the hospitality afforded by the friendly Clarksville folks in general or the efforts put forth by tournament director Artie Manning and his hard-working corps of volunteers. The people of Clarksville took the tournament when it was in jeopardy and built it into a quality event. The volunteers run an efficient tournament, and believe me when I say the folks there are close to having it down to a science. The TSSAA likes having the tournament at Clarksville, and it??™s clear that the folks put on a fine show. The obvious first choice is to leave the tournament at Clarksville. Perhaps it could rotate from east Tennessee to middle to west ??” and for the time being exclude Chattanooga, which hosts the traditional state tournament.
  23. I guess you missed this part ............. The Southern Conference office confirmed that UTC men's and women's basketball teams requested to be out of town that week in 2010 so the wrestling tournament could be held on the usual Thur-Fri-Sat. You get what you want, with a little help from UTC, and you still want to gripe?
