  1. How do they build those big stadiums? Is it public money or private donors?
  2. Strange not to see OS in the mix. I've only been following this region for the last couple of years. Has OS historically been a playoff team?
  3. Hey Govman, Congrats on the victory tonight. Hope this is the first of many in Coach Meadow's tenure at WB. I know this has been a tough year but I know you won't give up on the Govs. Another subject, I was told Bart Hicks started classes at Alcoa today. Just wondering why he would choose to leave WB during the middle of the football season. In fact, why would he choose to leave at all. His choice or did someone make it for him? On second thought, this probably isn't the place to discuss it. Hope to see you around soon. Maybe at Alcoa once the playoffs start.

    Duck Runnin Amuck!

He had 4 out of the backfield and one on a beauty of a punt return. He started on the home side and crossed the field picking up a couple of crushing blocks. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he only played one series in the second half. If I heard correctly he finished with 176 yards rushing. Rebelsman - Good to hear you made it back to see the boys play at Goddard Field. The band is not as good as Maryville but the football aint bad. thumb
  5. I thought home field advantage went to the team with the best record up to week 14. The home field for week 14 would rotate between regions, or what ever you call it when there are only 4 teams left in the playoffs. Not sure though. It would be nice to know with the playoffs coming up.
  6. Sorry you got so close without winning one RebelRon. My younger brother and I played on an Alcoa High School team that won the 1979 single A State Championship with an 11-3 record. This was Alcoa's third straight single A title. Unfortunately we joined the party a little late to get in on all three. My youngest brother played on an Alcoa team that went 14-1 with the lone loss being to Brentwood Academy in the State Championship Game in 1988. Here is the cool part, my son is a freshman on at Alcoa now. There are no guarantees but I sure hope they can win one during his high school years. thumb
  7. I'll have to agree with AlcoaBoi. I saw Kyrus bring a kickoff back 90+ yards against Maryville. I know it probably wasn't Maryville's first kickoff unit but it was a thing of beauty.
  8. Thanks for clearing that up FBE. I'm proud of Carl no matter where he went to school. I watched him play several times and knew he was special. It's always good when a local kid gets the kind of opportunity that he has, getting a college education and playing in a big time program. Ok, this is where I give Maryville credit. I do think his background, coming from a program with high academic and athletic standards, will be a benefit to him.
  9. No offense taken GovMan. As far as you making the team at Alcoa, I think Coach Cochran would have found a position for you. I mean, they even let me play!
  10. Yes, I did. That was a long, long, time ago. Best of luck to Mr. Lawhon. Hope the MRI comes out good.
  11. Touch a nerve there FBE? That post makes it sound like you look down the nose at the little school in Alcoa. You are probably right though. Nobody at Alcoa has ever gotten enough exposure to go to an SEC school. It is also true that Alcoa only has five state championships. No comparison to the Red and Black Nation. We also have such crappy academics. I know I couldn't wait to graduate and go to work at Krystal with all of my friends. After reading so many of your posts I will have to say that you have done a good job of hiding your obvious distaste for Alcoa. In the past I have supported you as you tried to get RebelRaider to understand that is not polite to make posts that bash another school. As I said before, Congratulations Carl!
  12. Just wondering if there were any updates and Lawhon's condition. Hate to hear it when anyone gets injured. I'm sure Joe Black will provide all the support needed to get him to the MRI Monday in good shape. A plug for Joe and his folks at Appalachian Therapy. They provide tremendous support for all of the Blount County teams. Thanks Joe! thumb As Alcoa is off this next friday I need to find a game to go to. What do you guys think the best game in the area will be? Coalfield at Greenback? Or do you think there is a chance WB will pull off the big upset of Oak Ridge?
  13. I hope that Alcoa - Hampton game works out. I remember Alcoa playing up there in the playoffs in '79. It was quite a spirited contest. Last year all of the Region 2 teams won their playoff games against Region 1 teams. Lets see if we can keep the streak alive.
  14. GovMan, what's up? Alcoa never did anything to you. Seriously, I heard the guy say Carl was from Alcoa and laughed out loud. I knew there would be some comments made on good ole CoachT. It was good to see a local kid get some playing time in a big time game. Whether he played at Maryville, Alcoa, WB, or Heritage makes no difference to me. Congratulations Carl! Kids going to schools other than the one they are zoned for has been going on for years. I remember the late '70s when Maryville and Alcoa both had kids from Eagleton that played big roles in winning state championships. It is just the way it works. It probably won't change until Maryville and Alcoa quit accepting tuition students. I think Alcoa has 'waiting lists' for several grades and as I understand it, Maryville will not accept tuition students unless they are a good athlete. Just kidding! I don't know anything about the situation at Maryville other than they are getting full.
  15. I don't know if Alcoa called off the dogs or got more conservative with the play calling in the 3rd quarter. They did run out of the power I for most of the 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter was played by the JV guys. To Rockwood's credit, they seemed to have responded to what the coaching staff had to say at halftime. They played hard and didn't quit. I also noticed in the 3rd quarter that Rockwood went back to what they do best, running the football. Had they tried to throw it all over the field it might have been a different story as Alcoa had already gotten two picks. To you Rockwood fans. It was great to see a good crowd make the trip up for the game. It is always good for the gate when a team travels well. Hope everyone had a safe trip.
  16. Not all Alcoa fans have marked this one up in the win column. I sincerely hope the Tornadoes come out with a win but I expect it will be a well played game on both sides. It will come down to the same things that most football games do. The ability to control the line of scrimmage and taking care of the football. Turnovers can kill any team. The best example I can think of is Alcoa's loss in the playoffs last year. Once the momentum gets turned anything can happen. Rockwood fans, please don't mistake the Alcoa fans confidence in their team as a lack of respect for Rockwood. I recall going down to Rockwood last year and escaping with a win in a hotly contested game. I read some of the posts on CoachT and cringe. I guess I subscribe to the theory that every opponent is worthy and should be respected. I just don't understand how anybody can dog a team when you know how hard teams have to work these days just to be competitive. With the records both of these teams bring into the game it is obvious they have worked hard in the off season to prepare. Having preached all I plan to, I hope everyone has a safe trip to the game. May both sides cheer their respective teams and may the best team win. When it is all said and done I pray neither team has any injuries and, win or lose, the Rockwood fans have enjoyed their trip to Alcoa. I should warn you though, I expect there will be a Tornado warning issued about 7:30 Friday night at Goddard Field! thumb
  17. As I said before, I don't think Rockwood will beat Alcoa. This is based strictly on Alcoa's strength of schedule and common opponents. However, I do look for Rockwood to bring their best game to town looking for a 'W'. A question for you Rockwood fans? Can you give me some background on your players? No secrets just who to look out for, who has exceled to this point in the season. General information such as leading tackler, leading rusher, etc., just so I will know who to look for. If there is a paper where I can read the previous game summaries that would work well. I don't mind doing a little digging on my own. Good luck to both teams in a showdown for the region crown!
  18. Sorry, I don't know much about Huntingdon. Did they lose much to graduation last year? The last time I saw them play I thought they would give the Titans a good scare.
  19. I don't think Coach Quarles gets enough of the credit for Maryvilles success. I see Maryville winning this one by three or four touchdowns. Primarily because GQ will 'outcoach' Larry Stephens. Sorry Coach Stephens, nothing personal. Good luck to both teams. I would like to see this one but I have an appointment at another location on Friday.
  20. Hampton is 2-3 on the season. The combined record of the teams Hampton has beaten is 1-9. I think they will need to get some wins against quality opponents before you can claim they are underated. They will get the opportunity to prove themselves in the next few weeks. I'll be watching to see how the playoff matchups will fall. Good luck to all in the region!
  21. Alcoa wins this one on paper. But, this game won't be played on paper. It will played Friday night at Goddard Field. Rockwood comes into this game with two things I think will make it alot closer than most of us think. One - momentum, RW is 5-0 and coming off a good victory last Friday. Two - motivation, There aren't many people giving them a chance of claiming a victory at Alcoa Friday. Don't get me wrong, I expect Alcoa to come out with a victory. In order to do so they must have a good week of practice, be mentally prepared at 7:30 pm Friday, and play each down as if it were there last. Alcoa City Schools are on break the next two weeks and I hope this doesn't upset the preparation for this very important region contest. Good luck to Rockwood and I hope all of you travelling to Alcoa for the game have a safe trip both to and from the game. Be careful, a Tornado warning is expected! thumb
