  1. We are still waiting to hear about Lebanon's stud. Who is he, where did come from, what can we expect from him next year? Is he going to carry the Blue Devils on his shoulders in 2009? MTDirtDog, please come out of hiding and tell us more about him! Baseball is a game of execution, not talent. From what I heard, this years problems seemed to be more failure to execute than anything. 7th inning errors, failed attempts at sac bunts, basically not coming through under pressure. These things make the difference in winning and losing, not strong arms and fast feet. Baseball is full of successful, but less talented athletes. As far as getting a pitching coach, I thought their coach was a pitcher himself? I also thought he even played a couple of years of pro ball. Why would he want to bring in a pitching coach?
  2. I believe Riverdaleman was the one who mentioned politics, not Diamond Devil. Jimlemon also implied that it was players not making plays that was costing them games. The "usual and customary" could be exactly what Diamond Devil was referring to. It seems like no matter who has coached there, they never seem to have a great deal of success. Some good players from time to time and some good teams occasionally, but never great or sustained success. It takes kids, and their parents, buying in to what the coach is trying to do in order to achieve sustained success. As long as kids are not doing things the way the current coach wants it done, mediocrity is the best you can hope for, no matter how much talent there is. In today's age of high school sports, there are too many parents and players that seek advice from outside the program. Like going to private lessons or instructors. Often times they are taught differently than what the coach teaches. This causes a conflict because the parents want the kid to do what they paid money to learn, even though this may not be what the coach wants done. I am aware of several situations like this and it never ends well.
  3. Awesome David! Coaches anymore are stepping right into a trap most of the time. When a parent complains to the coach about playing time. It is a no win situation for both the player and the coach. If the kid gets to play, it looks like he is playing because his parent complained and if the kid doesn't play, it looks like the kid is being punished because his parent complained!
  4. The Blue Devils could be in trouble tonight. They have got to be low on pitching after playing 3 games on Saturday and Sunday plus back-to-back district games coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tullahoma could be catching them at a good time.
  5. It might have been Rodney Martin in 1994 or 1995, not sure!
  6. Yeah, I heard they had several players suffering from some kind of viral infection or something. That could be disastrous for them. I heard they only have a couple of subs anyway. Doesn't sound to good for the Blue Devils!
  7. I am a little out of the "loop" these days but, last I checked, Lebanon was undefeated! Not sure of the last time this ocurred in Lebanon, but it sounds like they are off to a good start. Why does someone always have to mess it up when things are going good? I could understand if they were winless, but evidently most things are being done the right way or they wouldn't be winning. I thought the Blue Devils had a returning starter behind the plate this year anyway. Who is the back-up and what are his credentials? Who is the "everyone" that thinks he is better?
  8. I wonder if we are all chatting about the same few football coaches or if there are just a lot of coaches that operate that way? I heard the mother of a young football/baseball player a couple of years ago complaining to some other parents about the pressure put on her son to try to make an arrangement with the baseball coach so that he could make it to weight lifting and miss part of baseball practice, since he was "only playing JV" baseball. When one of the other parents suggested she go talk to the football coach, she said, "I don't talk to that man, he scares me."
  9. A friend of my son was trying out for baseball a couple of weeks ago. He was asked to come back for a second day. It just so happens that the kid was a sophomore that played football. Sometime before the the 2nd day the kid "decided" he needed to lift weights and get stronger for football because he might possibly be able to start next fall, if he was stronger and could put on some weight. I might add that the kid is 5 foot 2 or 3 and weighs about 150. The baseball coaches never even saw the kid again. Several of the baseball players said the kid looked awesome on the first day and would probably have started on JV. I wonder why the kid changed his mind so abruptly? Based on some of the statements in other posts in this thread, I think we can determine that someone got in his head. No one but the kid really knows.
  10. Lebanon won 7 - 3. Both teams started sophomore pitchers. Both have lively arms. The pitcher from Shelbyville is going to be good. He had a little control problem on Friday though.

    District 7-AAA

When was the last time Lebanon finished above .500 in the district or regular season either one? Maybe the year you were born? You might try doing something in the regular season instead of preseason before you get too confident. Seems like Lebanon did pretty well in the preseason the last two years, but didn't hold up once things got real. I also heard they looked like the same old blue at Wilson Central Tuesday, 10 - 5, with several errors. At least we know who you are and what position you play. We'll see what you and your teammate bb4 do to help the Blue Devils rise this year.
  12. What about former Trevecca Nazarene Nathan Brown at Page? How are things looking for him in Williamson Coutnty?
  13. You're right, I don't really know you, I guess you could just say I am aware of you. I was just trying to rattle your chain a little. BTW, according to the guys on "The Zone", Purina One does wonders for a dog's energy level. You should give it a try with your seeing eye dog.
  14. E5, Since the title of this thread includes etiquette, my question is this, is it good etiquette for an umpire to call games in the district in which his sons play? I know he never calls there games, but not only could he influence games that affect the standings, he is a built in scout for his sons' team. What does the "book" have to say about this?
  15. Do you have any info on them? Who will be there hitters, ace pitcher etc?
  16. Lebanon has a pair of sophs that are both legit. Garrett Fanchier, a righty and Cody Ferrell, a lefty. They should both be on display Tuesday at Blackman.
  17. There is only small problem. He is used to throwing barefoot. and he will have to wear shoes for tonights games. (That is plural, because he is also used to throwing anywhere from 14 to 21 innings in a day)
  18. Don't forget, there is another whole bracket that you guys haven't been seeing. Lebanon's Cody Ferrell was 5 for 6 with 4 doubles, two off of Killian, going into last nights game with Warren Co. He added two or three more hits last night in Lebanon's 5 - 0 victory. It's hard to be much hotter than that!
  19. The freshman centerfielder, Morris is legit defensively. He hit well early, but has struggled offensively down the stretch. The shortstop batted around .350
  20. I have been hearing that they only "played" one real game because they only "won" one game they played. My understanding is that it is up to each coach to decide whether or not to count the Disney games as regular games or as scrimmages. Since FCS only won one game, that was all they counted. If they had won all four, they would have counted all four. Sounds like a lot of manipulating to me. Much like they do in "acquiring" transfer players from local public schools. Several local students who are non-athletes have been told there was a waiting list to get in to FCS only to see athletes admitted and enrolled all in the same day.
  21. One concern I have that no one else has addressed is whether or not your boy is a lefty or righty? You rarely see a successful lefty submariner. This is due to the rotation of the earth working against a lefty's body and the gravitational pull on the earth's axis. If your boy is a lefty, I would agree with one of the earlier replies and just stick with bowling or maybe badminton.
