  1. If you look in D-II, you'll see Fayette Academy got 8 votes. That's nice and all... except for the fact that they're D-I. I hope that's just a typo, because I'd hate to be the sports writer who made that mistake.
  2. I'm no Mean Jean, but who among us is? Nonetheless, here we go. Crockett County at South Side: With a win, South Side can move into a tie for the regional lead. A Crockett County victory will all but seal the region title. For some reason, The Hawks have been having a lot of trouble with scoring against decent defenses, scoring only 11 points in their 4 losses. It won't be any easier this week. The Cavs should dominate time of possession, which will translate into big points considering this offense. Crockett County 34, South Side 6. Westview at Union City: The winner of this game pretty much locks up 2nd place in the region. You can always count on this one to be a barn-burner, or even a hum-dinger. The Chargers are just too much this year, though. Westview 28, Union City 13. Huntingdon at Riverside: This one's most likely going to determine the winner of region 6-2A. Riverside has been better than most people expected coming into the season, having beaten the likes of Lewis County and McNairy Central. The 'Stangs are coming off an ego-sapping loss to Milan, and would like nothing more than to re-establish their position among west TN 2A football teams - upper echelon. Riverside will hang close, but Huntingdon has too much speed and too much depth. Huntingdon 32, Riverside 20. Humboldt at Trenton Peabody: If the Tide win, they're back in the playoffs as they'll lock up 4th in the region. Humboldt, on the other hand, is still looking for their first win in 7-2A. Neither team has much going this year on offense, both have solid defenses, so what does that add up to? Quite possibly, a single-digit score for both teams. The Vikings let one slip away last week with Brighton, but they won't do that again this week. Humboldt 13, Peabody 7. Bolivar at Lexington: Another game with playoff implications; a win by Lexington puts them in. Bolivar has struggled this year, their only win coming over 1A Middleton. However, the gave USJ all they could handle last week, while Lexington almost upset 4A Hardin County. Lexington may be young, but they're more talented than their 2-5 record shows. It'll be 3-5 after this week. Lexington 33, Bolivar 12.
  3. What year did Leah transfer to Chester County? I know she was on a JCM state champion team. Maybe she just didn't play that much then?
  4. I don't think Crockett will have much trouble here. South Side has a good defense, but so does McNairy, and Crockett put 41 up on them. Plus, South Side has no offense, so Crockett will most likely dominate time of possession. In short, I don't expect this one to be pretty. Crockett 34, South Side 6. 6. In talking to a few Riverside fans and a coach, the consensus was that they were not ready to play against USJ. After seeing some of the teams they've beaten this year, as well as seeing them play twice, I'd tend to agree with that assessment. They've got no worse than 2nd in the region locked up, and for whoever has to play them in the first round from 5-2A, be ready to travel to a tough place to play.
  7. If you think Golder and McDonald wouldn't get any playing time for Huntingdon, I'd suggest you go confirm that with Coach Mansfield. I seriously doubt he'd share your opinion. I expect Huntingdon will win the game, but I don't think it's going to be the blowout you say it will be. Riverside has a good team... just ask the Lewis County fans on this board.
  8. It's obvious that no one's going to change their individual positions on this issue, as Coach T said earlier in this thread. For those of you who are vehemently against what Ezell did and how their fans defend it, the truth of the matter is this - they (Ezell) are the ones who have to live with this. Making a big issue out of it won't change their minds if they want to defend the actions of their team, or coaching staff in particular. Whether it's justifiable or not, they are the ones who will have to live with the consequences. And before it starts, I'm not implying "eternal consequences" here. I'm talking about schools either a) being unwilling to play them because of this rep, and schools looking to give them a taste of their own medicine.
  9. I do not agree with this at all. The score certainly does matter. You can't tell me that it's no more embarrassing to lose 71-7 than 24-23.
  10. As if the pot needed more stirring, the capsule from The Jackson Sun... "Perry Co. at Lewis Co. - Perry County (2-4) has been talking smack on message boards on the Internet, but will likely get smacked by Panthers (6-1) again. Last year: Lewis County, 34-8."
  11. I heard a little of it. Kenneth Porter called in and more or less guaranteed a Huntingdon win, and then Terrance Bell did the same thing. I didn't hear either one of them say anything bad about Milan... they mostly whined when one of the WBFG guys said he's picking Milan. I really didn't see any harm in what they did, but I don't know if it ballooned into something more, either.

Don't forget, Fayette gave USJ all they could handle as well. USJ only beat them 12-0.
  13. They have their high and low points. I think they could do a little better, maybe expand their previews a little bit to hit more than 3-5 games. And for heaven's sake, they ought to check the accuracy of some of their information. Seems like they always goof a few things up each week. Kary Booher and Dennis Seid do a great job with the coverage they provide, however. And "I Beat Fearless" is always fun.
  14. Trey Teague, OL, Buffalo. Played at USJ from 89-93. Al Wilson, LB, Denver. Played at JCM from 90-94.

    3A Ap poll

Munford is 4A. Either way, they're a lot better than they were last year. And you have to love the Covington-Munford rivalry.
  16. Well said, gobigred. A good mark for you.
  17. Gilligan2... do you happen to spend your Friday nights in the same place from, say... 4 to 7?
  18. Prep Talk has Match Murphy. What we need here at CoachT... MATCH MEANJEAN! Winner gets to meet the legend himself.
  19. It's possible, I suppose, that Perry will hang around early as their emotions are high and adrenaline is flowing. But, once that wears off, Lewis will own them. Perry doesn't have any depth, and they aren't all that well-conditioned.

I expect Fayette to win this one pretty easily, but it's hard to tell how good SB is. The only comparison point I can find on them is that they beat winless Gibson County 21-7 in week 5. I'd think that, if Gibson played them that close, they've got some definite weaknesses.
  21. Well, since CoachT went through the trouble of putting up strength of schedule for us, let's use that resource. AP Rank-Team-SOS-SOS Rank 1. Cloudland - 41.19 (T41) 2. Ezell - 48.94 (26) 3. USJ - 50.00 (25) 4. Collinwood - 46.83 (30) 5. Boyd Buchanan - 62.86 (T1) And a side note: South Pittsburgh's SOS is ranked the same as Cloudland's.
  22. No, Greenfield would probably handle Perry pretty easily. Perry did beat up on Middleton, though, and they did beat a decent TCA team.
  23. Au contrare. Ezell has proven that they are dominant just as they were last year. Their 6-0 record that includes wins over very solid teams shows that. USJ has proven that even without Franklin Payne, Russ DeLoach, Greg Fay, and their other outstanding seniors, that they can still beat good teams (as in CPA, Riverside, and Bruceton). Cloudland has proven that they are again among the best in east TN in 1-A. If the games that have been played thus far don't "prove anything" as you say, then what purpose do they serve? [Edited by TheBoredGuy on 10-8-02 2:21P]
  24. I agree with you, landersmom, that Ezell should not be ranked #1 solely because they won state last year. However, you add that to the fact that they're an impressive 6-0 this year, and it's awfully hard to make a case otherwise. I look forward to December 7, because I can't wait to see how all this plays out. 1-A is a very interesting class to follow this year.
