  2. Congratulations to Jasmine James for breaking Bartlett's all-time scoring record male or female with a total of 2,436 points. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> This was announced during Senior Night festivities as well as the decision by administrators to retire her jersey at the end of the season. She has worked very hard over the past 4 years both on and off the court and it is definitely paying off for her, which is evidenced by her being offered and accepting a full ride to the University of Georgia. BHS fans are definitely proud of her and the manner is which she represents the Lady Panthers. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />
  3. I wouldn't count Bartlett out just yet. They tend to play their best ball of the season in the post-season. JMO. Only time will tell. Good luck to all the teams as they wrap up their regular season schedules. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  4. Congratulations to Bartlett Lady Panthers for their victory over a very good Webster County(Kentucky) team. Bartlett defeated them by a score of 46-39. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> They will face BvLutt East tomorrow night at 8pm. Also, congratulations to Siegel for their victory against Middlesboro....not quite sure what their score was. Keep up the great work ladies and continue to represent Tennessee well.
  5. Rob_M, Bartlett did not have 2 losses in the HOF games. The only loss they had was 61-59 to Central. They defeated Melrose 60-44 and Manassas 54-34. Last I checked, Millington is not counting their loss to Central in the HOF games which is the coaches decision to do so. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  6. Bartlett has not played Millington yet this year and will not face them until December in District play. Bartlett is now 3-1 on the season after defeating Oakland 60-24. LaVergne does have a good team, but don't start declaring them AAA champions just yet. If I am not mistaken, they have to go through Wilson Central and Smyrna to get to the Boro and that in it self will be a hard task to conquer, although anything is possible. Bartlett lost the game in the first quarter, but made adjustments and the remaining quarters were pretty evenly matched. I wouldn't count Bartlett out just yet. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Some teams peak early, but the truth of the matter is that games like this help prepare teams for the end of the season. This game does count as a loss on Bartlett's overall record, but it won't make or break their season. Great job LaQuinta and Stephanie I must also say that of all of the schools I have visited, some of the fans from LaVergne are the worse I have ever seen. These are kids out there on the court playing and these obnoxious fans took much pride and pleasure in making rude comments about the young ladies and trash talking the entire game. The good thing is that the young ladies could not hear them. I was very disgusted at the fact that adults would conduct themselves in the way they did. Here is a little bit of advice......if your child is blessed with talent and being recruited by colleges, colleges are not only looking at the player, but the parents as well and you never know who is sitting in the stands around you. Don't be the reason a recruiter is hesitant about seriously recruiting your child. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  7. Bartlett 60 Melrose 44 Bartlett 54 Mannassas 34
  8. Actually, Jasmine ended the game with 40 points, she had 35 at the end of the 3rd quarter. All of the young ladies played well, but had a few areas that I'm sure Coach Whitfield will work out the kinks and they will be giving teams all they can stand. They face Melrose in the morning and they will be ready to "bring it on". /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. JJ has not made a decision yet on her school choice. TN has not offered as they do not have a need for a combo guard with the committment from Avant for the 2010 class. JJ has been offered by Maryland, LSU, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Kentucky, Auburn, Arkansas, and Louisville.....just to name a few. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> She will be narrowing her list down and making her official visits during August and will commit before the start of the school season.
  10. Congratulations Ashley and you are very deserving. I look forward to seeing you play in the Tiger blue & white. I am very proud of you and will continue to be in the stands cheering you on (unless you are playing against my daughter's school /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) Continue to work hard and great things will come your way.
  11. Congratulations to Sarah and good luck. U of A is not only adding a great player to their team but a great young lady as well. Sarah is a very talented young lady and all of her hard work has paid off for her. We are very happy for her and her family. Again, congratulations and represent Tennessee well in Razorback Country. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Just a FYI......Flight-Navy was NOT the same team that beat Miles in Shelbyville. They were missing 2 very important parts of the puzzle in Jamila Ajanaku who played with Flight-Silver for the tournament and Ellen (don't know her last name) who had a prior engagement. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  13. Congratulations to all the young ladies from the Shelby-Metro area that were chosen Pepsi/Commercial Appeal 2007-2008 Best of the Preps. A special congratulations goes out to Lauren Avant (Lausanne), Caitlin House (Briarcrest), Jasmine James (Bartlett), Crystal Riley (Hillcrest), and Sarah Watkins (Houston) for being named the five finalists for Girl's Basketball Player of the year. The winner will be announced sometime in June. For the full article, go to http://web.commercialappeal.com/best_of_preps/08/bball.pdf. Also, congratulations to Coach Gat for being named Coach of the Year. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  14. Congratulations to the Bartlett Lady Panthers on a great season. Through all the adversity that these young ladies have faced throughout their season, they still managed to be one of the last 8 out of 114 AAA teams to be standing during the end of the season. Despite the many negative attacks regarding their skill level or quality of competition, these young ladies completed the seaon with a record of 20-8 and lost to the eventual champion Wilson Central, who is an awesome team, in the quarterfinals by a score of 49-60 which was only a 6 point deficit until Bartlett had to foul to stop the clock. Maybe the young ladies owe an apology to those that were predicting a blowout....NOT!!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> You better believe that everytime these young ladies step onto the court, they give 150% until that last horn sounds. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Alot of posters on here did not give Bartlett any credit, but the fact of the matter is that since JJ has been back, Bartlett has only lost to 2 teams (Millington and Wilson Central) who both made it to the finals of the AAA state tourney. They have alot to be proud of and their future is looking even brighter next year as they will be returning everyone (Lauren Croom included) and have some very good players coming up from middle school. After getting a taste of the Boro, these young ladies are hungry to make a trip back and make some noise. Great job representing 14AAA, West Tennessee and the Memphis area with class. /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> Congratulations to Jasmine James, Olivia Maddox, and Jasmine Newsome for being named to the All State Tournament Team. We are very proud of all of the young ladies from both teams. Go 14AAA!!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  15. After a very sluggish start, Bartlett defeats Bolton 49-32 to advance to the championship game on Wednesday where they will face the winner of the Millington-Cordova semifinal to be played tomorrow night. At this point all four teams have secured bids for the regional tournament. Good luck to all of the teams from 14AAA. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  16. Elitebball, I am not feeling the love in your post. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> One would think you would be a little more supportive of the 2 teams since a total of 6 players represent your AAU organization and represent it well. What coachgat and DU are doing now by praising their respective teams and 14AAA is not any different than what you do during the AAU basketball season. Cut them some slack and don't be so critical of the teams. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> These young ladies have and are working very hard to have a successful season and don't need the reminder from you or anyone else that they have not made it to the state tournament. They are more than aware of this fact. I tell you what, if the cards (or games) are played right and both teams make it to the state tournament we will be happy to have you jump on the 14AAA bandwagon. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. Don't worry Dragonmaster, I more than have the right to post that kind of info about this student. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> I wasn't implying that TSSAA requires 6 classes. I was suggesting that 6 classes gives "a little room for error" just in case a child is having unexpected difficulty in a particular course. Yet again, I will repeat, all student athletes are not aware of the 5 credit eligibility rule, and naturally those that do, take the appropriate steps during the summer to become eligible for their sport.
  18. Philten, I am the first to buy into the belief that "the only dumb question is the question not asked" You must pass 5 regular classes and passing is a "D" or better, but I think TSSAA has guidelines regarding the minimum gpa a student athlete may have. Study hall does not count towards credits. If you are enrolled in 6 classes with one of those classes being a study hall and you don't do well in another course, you would only have 4 credit hours for that year. Most coaches or counselors don't allow their athletes to take a study hall until senior year, but for some reason at Bartlett you are automatically placed in a study hall unless you request something different. For example, if you take food & nutrition which is only a semester course, you would need to take something else the next semester instead of replacing the second semester with a study hall. JJ's GPA at the end of the year was 3.0 and she had 10 credits (5.5 as a freshman, 4.5 as a sophomore) therefore she was classified as a Junior for the 2007-2008 school year, but TSSAA requires that a student athlete earn 5 credits each year to be eligible and does not go by cummulative credit hours. This year she is enrolled in 6 regular classes and is an honor roll student for the semester and will have the 5 required credits plus "one to grow on" /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  19. You are incorrect in your assumption that "all kids know they have to pass 5 classes". I have spoken with alot of high school athletes and their parents and most of them were not aware until it was brought to their attention when this happened to JJ. Now, alot of them, as well as parents will make sure that they have the required 5 credits each year with none of their kids enrolled in study halls. The bottom line is that this did happen to JJ but some positive has come out of it due to the fact that her teammates are stronger and know how to play without her and others have learned from her situation. I think it has been punishment enough for her to have to sit on the bench during the first half of the season unable to help her team on the court as well has be ridiculed by those who don't truly know what kind of student athlete she is. She is only human, and sometimes things happen to the best of us. She took a negative situation and turned it into a positive one, as she gave her teammates all of her support during that time and never missed a game nor practice. FYI.....JJ has qualified with the NCAA Clearinghouse and is now weighing her options on where she will be attending school. Although she was ineligible based on credits for the year, her gpa and act scores were and are still fine. Thanks for all your positive support /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  20. Maybe you need to read the post again. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is the wonderful thing about freedom of speech. I don't have a problem with Rob-M expressing who he would want on his team, but the fact that he singled out a child by name. This was not the thread for it and it would be appropriate to do this without pointing out a particular player by name. Last time I checked no one was "fighting" but debating on a message board. I don't understand why you feel the need to respond to a post that was specifically directed to Rob_M and not Bartletthsgrad04. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> I also noticed that you continue to be curious regarding JJ's playing status. If you want answers to your questions about her, by all means contact her coach or parents and I am sure they will clear up any misconceptions or misinformation that may be lingering in your mind. I must admit that I am very disappointed in the fact that you are familiar with those close to JJ, but you insist on posting these questions on this message board rather than speaking with them. /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> Anyway, you already know the answer to the question you are asking, but for some reason you want to broadcast it on this thread. Oh, my mistake, I forgot broadcasting is your specialty. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. Rob_M, First of all, don't give a compliment and then add a comment like that because it cancels out the half-hearted compliment that was originally given. Secondly, I looked through the various posts in this thread and at no point did I see where someone asked who YOU or anyone else would rather have on his/her team. Being a true fan, a person always is biased towards who is on their team at that time. Thirdly, you can rest assured that JJ is not the least bit concerned about your assessment of her playing ability or the fact that you would not want her on your team. The bottom line is that teams like Duke, Georgia, Louisville, Ole Miss, Illinois, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, MTSU, and Florida are just a few of the many schools that are actively recruiting JJ and would love nothing more than to have her on their team. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> So, in the future, when it comes to JJ or any other basketball player, you may want to keep your generic compliments to yourself if you can't refrain from degrading them whether is consciously or subconciously. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. The correct score was 54 to 40 which is a 14 point deficit. The young ladies played fairly well, considering they have not scrimmaged anyone prior to this game and they are trying to adjust to playing with some new players on the team. I predict that by the time they meet up with Germantown on Dec. 20, the outcome will be different. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  23. I agree that Millington and Bartlett will be the top contenders for the title again this year, but I disagree with your prediction that Millington will win the title. Yes, Bartlett did loose alot in Nikke and Ashley, but you must have forgotten that Millington lost important parts of their team from last year in Jerrica Spencer and Sabrina Matthews due to graduation. Bartlett may be young, but they are returning JJ, Briana, Lauren and have added Jemil Jefferson who is a pretty talented player and have a shooter that transfered from Harding. I think alot of people are thinking Bartlett is a weaker team this year, but the top 3-4 teams in the district last year lost key players due to graduation. Should be a interesting year, and I can't wait until district play begins. Good luck to everyone this year and I hope there are no injuries for any teams. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  24. I don't quite understand your math on having them finishing at least t-9th. They are in the top 8 of the championship bracket with an additional 16 teams playing games in the loser's bracket of the championship bracket which will add an additional 8 teams to make them in the sweet 16 at this point. They would have to win their game today in order to advance and then it goes to the top 12. The loser's bracket of the championship bracket makes everything different than the older age groups. In the older age groups at this point there would be 8 teams tied for 9th.
  25. The only #1 seed that matters is the seed that the Trotters have and it will be irrelevant if they do not win their pool to secure the #13 seed for the championship bracket. Seeding in pool play could be misleading in that you could have a #4 seeded team in a pool that did not perform well at their state tournament for some reason or actually won their state tournament but their association did not have a seed from the prior national tournament to give them a higher seed in pool play. I guess that I am trying to say that seeding in pool play doesn't mean as much as who actually wins the pool and advances to the championship bracket.
