  1. If WB really wants to go in the tank then they'll hire Flip.
  2. Yes, Warren and Lindsay will slice em and dice em. Who dat, who dat, who dat talkin' bout beatin ALCOA! Silver and maroon by 6.
  3. Susie, this may not be the right lineman but didn't Charles Rathbone (early 90's)play at UT for a year or so and then went to Carson Newman where he was All American. Maybe not best all around athlete your talking about but good football player nonetheless. Your right about # of players out for football. Any school in the state would be hard pressed to get 125 out unless they included the freshman team. I also don't thing the Gibbs coach would be a wise hire with all thats been in the news about him.
  4. Why would Reid be on that list? He's already been at WB and although coaches have left Alcoa for good jobs (ex. Meadows to UT and then Jeff Co.) but why go to Heritage especially since he's been involved with how the county does things?
  5. ALCOA will represent. Tornados by 10.
  6. Patience is going to be a hard sell at these 2 schools as they probably feel they've been patient way too long. Even early this year at Alcoa with a close win over a very poor South Doyle team and lopsided loses to Maryville and WB there were grumblings until the team turned it around. Its a hard deal in Blount County because teams and coaches are always being compared to Maryville and that is just not fair or realistic. Coach Phelps and Corum are good men and should be appreciated for the time that they gave considering the circumstances they were coaching under (Corum being shorthanded and Phelps having AD and superintendent use him as a short term solution knowing he may not be in for the long haul). Everyone is right. Until the school systems administration support all factions of a school whether it be football or the Spanish club then apathy will always be prevalent. Maybe they will find guys who will give their all to WB and Heritage and the kids will benefit instead of having to deal with constant change.
  7. Remember before the year even started all the debate about the WB job. Didn't the school board superintendent and WB AD practically beg Phelps to take the job for a year and see how things went? If I were a WB parent I'd be upset with the AD and superintendent, not Phelps. If they were looking for stability they should have known someone who has already retired once was not likely to stay around forever. Alcoa has also been a revolving door for coaches as of late and hopefully Reid will stay. I really feel for Heritage. Those kids seem to play hard but unlike WB they can't seem to get over the playoff hump. Its almost like their coaches give up on them but the kids don't quit. Good luck to both schools in finding replacements. Any possible candidates?
  8. They're hotter than 2 rats doin the deed in a wool sock.
  9. According to the Daily Times, if Heritage could kick like they can fight then they should be able to win.
  10. That a way to represent Tornados. Who dat... Who dat... Who dat talkin' bout beatin' ALCOA.
  11. Instead of catching the Alcoa vs. Heritage I thought I'd go watch the County championship on the line at WB. I actually thought WB would be more competitive than they were but after Maryville converted that turnover into a TD you could see the Govs go in the tank. Also the Rebs defense is outstanding. But on to my point. I was very impressed by a lot about Maryville, even their band which was probally better than some colleges but one thing caught my attention. In the corner of the endzone there was a banner that read "You wish you were us." I don't know if this was directed just at the WB football team or the WB community as a whole but I have talked with several others in attendance who were very bothered by this and who feel that this is nothing more than a "Maryville eletist attitude" and trying to belittle those who aren't associated with Maryville. I know you think I'll have an ax to grind (which I don't) but a lot of Maryville fans say everyone else is jealous of their success. That may be true but when people are made to feel that they are a lower class of citizen then that often breeds the negative attitude that people have towards Maryville. Take this for what its worth but this may be why so much negativity is directed at you guys.
  12. Her RebelRon, any glimmer of truth to this rumor. Do the link. http://invisionfree.com/forums/Sports_Parl...?showtopic=1091
  13. Parents of county kids should support board members like Talbott and Treadway. Talbott is a CPA and these 2 reportedly also sought the advice of financial strategists/planner to come up with a budget that would not only save the teaching positions in county high schools and not reduce principals pay. Miller and his cronies either didn't care or their egos are so big they couldn't let someone elses idea fly. Residents should show their displeasure next election. Hope someone who cares will step up and run. Good luck Govs and Mountaineers.
  14. Hey susie, don't look for coach Webb or any others off the old Alcoa staff to be joining the Govs. Looks like the only "specialist" coaching positions are RB and OL. Are you guys going to rely on the coordinators do it all (ex. Reeves with OC, QB, WR, TE and Gamble with DL, LB, DB) or will Phelps be more hands on or will they add any other coaches.
  15. mhs, I don't know if I'd say phelps quit at Alcoa. All the bullcrap he was put through anyone with any sense would have left too. Also, didn't the pricipal at the time, Smith, pretty much beg him to stay on for an additional year because he couldn't get anyone else to take it. If he doesn't go into the WB situation whole heartedly the kids will know it and it will show. He needs to get his leaders to believe in him and he may be alright. I realize kids now may be different than his time at AHS but the environment and stress at WB will NEVER be as bad as at AHS (ask Ironside or Meadows why they left.) Also, didn't a few of his teams make it fairly deep into the playoffs and maybe a few state runner-ups.
  16. This search went about as well as the UT AD search. IMO the blame goes squarely on the AD and Superintendent of Schools. Sources have it that Phelps told them both that he would not set a timetable of his stay and that only 1 year was a possibility. He has already tasted retirement once from Alcoa I don't know why he would want to get back into the frying pan again. Apparently he was chosen to help "groom" Reeves into the position but if Reeves can't be "groomed" under 3 previous head coaches and he acts like a child by threatening to quit since he was not the selection, he has no business being a candidate to begin with. So much for Reeves beng a self proclaimed "WB Guy" and that he would accept the desision either way which was quoted in the Daily Times last Sunday if he's ready to bail so fast. The ones I hate to see get caught up in this are the players, expecially the seniors. What is this, their 3rd coach in 4 years. Also, I don't know if I go along with this whole youth movement when hiring coaches. Just because someone is young doesn't mean squat. Back in my day I played for both young and old and had a lot more respect for the experienced older guys. Some of the younger guys thought they knew it all and were complete jerks. At this level it all comes down to talent. I bet Quarles and his staff would have a hard time of making consistent winners out of WB and Heritage. For all involved, the decision has been made so rather than complain about it make the best of it and support the new coach. For the players sake I hope that Reeves and any other coaches who have threatened to jump swallow their pride and try not to undermine Phelps and cause friction this year. Good luck Govs.
