  1. Congrats to the Vonore Crickets on their 28-0 win over Central Saturday. Madisonville visits Vonore this Saturday. Dumdum, my guess is coach Satterfield will definitely be there, maybe Black & Gold or someone can verify that. Youth League standings for Vonore and Madisonville: Crickets: Vonore 1-1, Madisonville 0-2 Hoppers: Vonore 1-1, Madisonville 0-2 Cutters: Madisonville 1-1, Vonore 0-2 Juniors: Madisonville 1-1, Vonore 0-2 Don't forget to go out and support all these future Chiefs. Super Crickets start at 3 pm.
  2. I think Sweetwater has more team speed. G-P was very disciplined on both sides of the ball. The running game complimented the passing game real well. G-P seemed to be more powerful up front on defense. I think G-P has the edge in the backfield, Sweetwater has the better QB, and its even at recievers and O-Line. Defensively, G-P gets the edge on the line, even on the LB's, and I would have to give G-P a slight edge on DB's. If I had to predict a winner though, off of the 2 games I have saw, if they played right now, I would have to give Sweetwater the edge in a close one.
  3. bigc, slobber, I don't keep stats anymore, I just spot for the announcer at home games. Dan Russell (I think that's his name) is the statistician. You might want to ask him for a copy of his stats. Not sure what all he keeps up with, but it looked pretty detailed Friday night. I am going to try to get a copy of the stats from Friday night, and if I can get this program to work on my computer, I will start trying to keep up with them from week to week. If I am able to, I will start posting them on here after the games. Good luck to the Chiefs Thursday night and remember to support the youth league of your choice. Congrats to the Vonore Hoppers (28-14 winners over Loudon). Kayne Roberts had 294 yards rushing. Also congrats to Madisonville Cutters (14-6 over Polk County) and Juniors (22-14 over Polk County in overtime). This Saturday Madisonville travels to Riceville and Vonore hosts Central.
  4. SWildcat1967, it probably was the same game. It was the year Sweetwater jumped out quick and forced several turnovers. I think, (I might be wrong), the score ended up 44-28. It seemed a lot worse than what the score ended up. Brad Cagle, the Blomstroms, Berrong, Mason, Latham, Nisha, Ferguson and many others had exceptional games. That same year, Sweetwater gave Alcoa fits for a half. The paper was holding the main front page until the end of the third quarter. Had Sweetwater beat Alcoa that night, it would probably had been the first time a sports story would have made the front page of our paper.
  5. In all fairness, White wasn't the only one cramping up. Several cramped up throughout the course of the game. Careful slobber, your last few posts have almost sounded positive. LOL!!!
  6. Get ready to enjoy a great atmosphere Chiefs fans. I was up there a few years ago and really enjoyed it (except for the cold, it was a playoff game). I think for the most part, you will find the G-P fans hospitable. Concessions were pretty good too.
  7. I think you are right. I told some of the players Saturday that 28 points will win some ballgames. They just need to shore up the defense and they will be alright. Elisha did a good job leading the offense last week. He needs to keep that leadership and emotion going into this week. If someone can step up and be that same kind of leader on defense, then things will be alright.
  8. Sequoyah's new head coach Bill Satterfield did good for the most part. Sequoyah lost to Sweetwater 42-28. The game went back and forth the whole time with neither team able to keep the momentum. Sweetwater intercepted a pass on the last play of the game for a touchdown to provide the final margin. Still a lot of work to do, especially on defense, but the Chiefs impressed a lot of people, and gave hope to a program that needs it.
  9. Brainerd at Howard played Saturday night. Game was suspended at halftime because of electrical problems. Howard was leading 27-2. Game scheduled to resume Monday night at 7:30pm. Notre Dame lost to Chatt. Central 13-10, East Ridge 31 Lookout Valley 0, Gatlinburg-Pittman 43 Tellico 12, Central 34 Loudon 13, Polk County 43 Bledsoe County 8, Sweetwater 42 Sequoyah 28.
  10. harley, I had the priveledge of visiting Hammons Field a few years back when I worked for the newspaper. Sweetwater played a playoff game up there and I was shocked at how lopsided the game was. I believe Sweetwater's quickness caught G-P off gaurd. As for the hospitality, it was one of the best environments I have had the priveledge of being around throughout my covering high school football. The atmosphere was incredible, and I expect more of the same come Thursday night. Looking forward to the trip.
  11. No I didn't sorry. First time in years I didn't keep any kind of stats. Felt kind of like you probably feel when you attend a game without your camera. LOL! I will get with Mr. Russell, he is Sequoyah's statistician. He does a good job. I will try to get you a copy of what he has.
  12. Thoughts and prayers from Monroe County and Sequoyah High School. May God comfort family, friends, and community.
  13. Good luck to Howard. Glad to hear they are showing respect to one of the greatest to play the game. Very classy and well deserved.
  14. Your right. And there were mistakes by both teams at key times that could have swung the game in either direction. Ifs, what ifs, coulda, woulda, shoulda, doesn't matter though. It was a hard fought ballgame from both sides. Good luck to you guys on the rest of your season.
  15. Malcolm, there are no excuses to give. I will go ahead and sayt this though, if you don't think the Wildcats got all they wanted and then some, you are an idiot. No disrespect intended, just stating a fact. The reaction of your assistant coaches in the press box before the interception said it all. They knew they were in a battle and the game was not over until the interception. Sure blowed your "blow out" prediction out of the water, huh? You know, you guys get on here and talk about how sorry Sequoyah is and then brag about giving up 28 points to them? I know you won't admit it but the Chiefs are improved. On the flip side of this, as it has been said, Tyler Richesin is a good QB. He played a heck of a ballgame along with the rest of the team. Richesin showed true poise in settling down his offensive team when he needed to and showed a lot of good leadership. My hats of to Mr. Richesin and hope he has a great career.
  16. Did anyone catch the Lions/Bengals game the other night? Jerome started with the first team and played a couple of series. Didn't get any touches but made some big blocks (as usual). The announcers talked about him in the second quarter and said coach Marinelli was really high on him and was impressed with how smart he was and how quick he picked up on things. Chiefs fans we've got a lot to be proud of from the past, present, and future. I'll take this time to say, Go Lions, Go Chiefs, Go Blue Devils, Go Tornadoes. We are about 20 hours from kick off. Lets overload the stadium and hope we are dancing in the streets, but don't celebrate to hard. Get a good nights sleep and get things done early Saturday so you can go to Loudon and Madisonville to support Vonore and Madisonville (Future Chiefs) youth teams.
  17. I don't think its the Super Crickets he has a problem with, I think its the moving of the start time for the regular Crickets games being pushed back to 4 pm that he is not a fan of.
  18. I have also been working on the histories of each school. There is little (because I have been too busy) on the High School Football Database for all 3 schools. Helmet designs from the 80's for Vonore and early 90's for Madisonville. Also have some stuff from the 50's on Vonore and working on more. Still trying to contact a person that is supposed to have most of the Madisonville info from the beginning of the school. Talked to another that also has a lot of Mad. info. Just been too busy to follow up. It might interest you to know that before there was a Vonore and Madisonville, there was a Central High School that students from Vonore and Madisonville attended together. Heard they had some remarkable teams then. I was suprised to find out that Sequoyah was not a new concept, just an old one revised.
  19. This is exactly why I refuse to coach my kid. I want his accomplishments to be on his own merits without the assumption or accusation that its because he is the coach's son. I want people to talk about his accomplishments because he accomplished them, period. I can simply sit in the stands and look like a proud poppa (which I am) and simply say "thats my boy!!"
  20. The news in Knoxville reported tonight that one of the school board members resigned with only a few weeks left in his term. Is there an election coming up in Cumberland County? Maybe its time for some write-in candidates. They also reported that there would be a meeting Saturday to see if they could operate on the bare minimum.
  21. How did Greenback do in the jamboree?
  22. Well for starters, quit running down every program. I personally have not had a real problem with your posts, actually found some amusing, but your comments on the thread for an injured athlete from South Pittsburg crossed the line. Every post seems to trash someone or school and even your fellow Oneida supporters have become embarrassed by your actions. Its one thing to talk smack on here, but when it is every post, it gets old. Most people on coacht use it as an information tool to keep up with programs that they cannot be completely involved with, not to read someone bashing any and all programs except for Oneida.
  23. Thanks Doc. I thought I had seen it somewhere, but couldn't remember where. It looks like we have some good size to go along with their agility. Its about time we had some linemen who were as quick as they are big. Not a knock on our past linemen, it just seems in the past they have either been big or agile, never both.
  24. B & G, What are the stats on your son now? How tall and weight? I was noticing at the Harriman scrimmage how much bigger he looked than last year. Does anyone know what our lineman average in height and weight is?
  25. We will play badmitton if we have to. We will accomodate you all in anyway we can! LOL! Tell your son good luck for me. Hope he has a good season. He might not remember me, but he is a good kid. You definitely should be proud of your kids, they are both good people. Come say hi next Friday if you have time.
