That AHSFS site has a lot of gaps in it, I have been meaning to get around to helping them update it. The last 2 or 3 seasons isn't even on there. SP lost to Brentwood Academy in the 1974 State Championship game and lost back to back title games in 1985 and 1986. It was hard to make the playoffs in the 1970s, but SP did it frequently. In fact it wasn't super easy in the 80s.

I am not 100% sure why, but both teams were undefeated and the drive in 1969 was a lot more challenging than it is now. You basically had to go around the bend, through Red Bank and up through that way on 2-lane roads. I remember going to basketball games in Sale Creek was a PITA in the late 70s.

SP has been in State championship 13 out of 99 years playing and semifinals 22 out of 99. Playoffs started in 1969 and SP won the 2st A state championship.

I hope they have a back or to that can help block if it comes down to that. You know, kind of like a #31 Eraser!

I wondered the same thing about Huntland. Until a couple of years ago with the home and away series with them, they had never played. Outside of Whitwell and LV, they are the closest 1A school to SP.

The kid next to Garrett was really good as well. In addition, the center was outstanding.

The right side of that 2007 O-Line had their way with that big boy from Hampton.
