  1. Looking for updates and highlites from the Coca~Cola Classic.. Wednesday day 1: DB 17-0 over Greeneville Volunteer 7-2 over North Science Hill 8-0 over Unicoi (Dino fans 14 & only gives up 2 hits) Tennessee High was up by 7 late over Happy Valley South was up by 10 over North late..
  2. Looked like deja vue all over again tonight. But the Tribe held on for a 5-3 win. Big 8 baseball is back and looks like it will be a wild ride. Close exciting game tonight at The Fred. The Hill has a good team good luck this weekend in Choo Choo town. I think Crocket won again 4-0 over South, heard Freeman was on and hit a bomb. Also if I am not mistaken TNH beat Boone 9-3, Connel went yard as well. Did not hear anything on Central/Volunteer.
  3. What What! Roll Tribe. It is baseball time for sure. DB had a good scrimmage yesterday vs. Webb. I wasn't able to attend but heard alot about it. Good luck to Webb this season and thanks for coming up. Evidently Wormsley is all that has been said. I understand he went deep behind 3rd... back hand grab... turn and threw the runner out at 1st. Highlight play of the day. Looks like East Tennessee will represent this year several great teams in the area.
  4. The Indians has had a couple of scrimmages that have went pretty well for them. They are young. Some needed work in a couple areas but time is running out fast. We have one more scrimmage the it's on. South-Science Hill-Unicoi-Crockett-Tennessee High. First 5 games will be a challenge but they are looking forward to it. Once The Tribe gets some experience under their belt I think they will do well.
  5. Gabby! Where ya been? Hearing the Hill has a frosh throwing gas...high 80's. Deja Vue?
  6. Yes it has been down the past 2 days
  7. Would you try and remember sir, just for the record? We just want to get the facts, sir. All the better to get the facts. I just wanna' get the facts, man. Looking for the DC on the OT and DT next year.
  8. Bump! Any more updates on the Big 8 scouting reports? Gabby, I saw Will Carter playing basketball and was shocked by the way that kid has shot up. Good for him he has really worked hard over the years. Hearing he will prob hold down 3rd base this spring.
  9. Speaking of classy here it is. I had heard a student got some bad footage... South Vs. DB...were no strangers to love..
  10. Looks like Turner drug his feet to long. Word is Hamilton is scheduled to fly into the Tri around 7 tonight and make an offer to Carter to take the UT j-o-b.
  11. I didn't look at the dates that close but I guess you are correct. I think DB opens up at South then has Science Hill at home, Play somebody else (prob Unicoi) then Tennessee High and Crockett. Tuff 5 games to open with but darn good competition to find out where you stand.
  12. NETFAN Pretty fair assessment of the league. The other arm at Crockett is Chris Marti. I agree Crockett is the one to beat. They only lost one key player from last year’s team. The Hill Toppers will have to bring it this year. As Gabby stated Corey and Zack will be solid up the middle on defense and at the plate. DB should be solid on defense and offense but suspect on pitching. Never know might be a surprise or 2 there this year. The Vikings do have a couple pretty good arms with Cunningham and Mullins. They should fare well this year. South has athletes, I think we will see Garvin do some pitching. Lockhart and Mathews are solid players. Other than Connell , Boone, Central and Volunteer look pretty vanilla at this point. Bottom line once and again it will be tough to get past Knoxville. Looks like Farragut (again) is loaded and Gibbs as well. I think those two teams plus Knox West are coming up to DB this spring. As far as the back to back Region 1 AAA games go …looks like it’s a no go. I had heard last summer we might see a conference game (for example) Sullivan South vs. Volunteer at South on Tuesday night then Thursday night Volunteer would host the Rebels. According to the schedules I have seen this won’t happen. The other hope was the District tourney would be a pool A and pool B scenario all double elimination with pool winners facing each other. Someone else in the know might comment on that.
  13. Still a bit early but heck yeah. Most HS team started hitting the cages and bull pens this week. Several talented seniors in the Big 8 this year but IMO a very special Junior class. Really going to miss East , kinda understand football and basketball but always thought some good baseball players came out of that area. Roll Tribe
  14. Hearing things are heating up on the Southern Front of the coaching recruitment job. Money has been but on the table but not picked up yet.
  15. I guess winning against a lesser qualified opponent is enough of a satisfying philosophy for you? I really don't think your "us" mention is speaking from a Dobyns-Bennett standpoint, much less for anyone who has pride in their program and wants to be the best. To be the best you have to beat the best. Not just the best that this conf offers.
  16. IMO this should get the moron of the week award. I have not heard anything about the Coach leaving or staying. SC is a good coach. And an even better man. But if he is leaving .. The man is smart ,hard working and has the passion needed to be successful. IMO Coach Carter has had his most challenging season to date in his career. A season we are all aware of. He did more than coach this year and handled this season in a way that all should admire. How hard will it be to match the emotion and energy it will take to meet his and the teams expectations next year,no matter the talent? Can he elevate himself to this level next year at South? I think the challenge he is looking for and the way to retain this passion is to take over a failing program. Restore a program to the traditional level it should be. New environment , new traditions , his program. Not about money and not about living close to work. But how about all of the challenges a good coach may look for. Finding out if he is good enough to build something new. No matter how hard it may be to break the ties that I am sure he holds so very close. I wish him the best of luck no matter his decision. and btw "your chops have been busted"
  17. Good Luck and Godspeed Rebel fans and players. We do wish you the best of luck.
  18. See what I mean. Even as they come to the close of a loosing season... we still get the backhanded comments. Aint nutthin backhanded about it. Who has been your daddy for the past 20 some years? You Pedro Martinez look alike contest winner. We don't like you , you don't like us, go play on your thread. No lack of respct toward Maryville from K-Town. Why do you think we scrimmage year after year. To be the best you have to beat the best. The train runs through Maryville for state.
  19. "Red Rebels » Fri Oct 02, 2009 12:05 pm Two good posts above. Not the one right above. The two above that. Now the one below is an extremely bad post." How right you are
  20. I wish both teams the best of luck come game time. In the true scope of things there is a lot of respect for both programs from the majority folks living in Kingsport and Colonial Heights. The loss of #54 was heartfelt at DB as well as we know throughout the state. There will be many acts of class and kindness tonight coming from the DB students to carry on his memory. Many DB students will be wearing Tee Shirts as well as wooden crosses remembering Jake. That’s what should matter the most to the fans and the cranks posting on here. Like most from Kingsport I am pulling for DB in this game but also hoping South makes a great run in the post season. Good luck to the players Friday night.
  21. Ok so help me out here... Virginia has what 6 Regions and 3 Classifications. And each Regional Winner is declared State Champion? And this compares to a TSSAA State Champion how?
  22. Since the State playoffs began DB has made it into the semis 4 times. '76,'98',00' & 02'. http://www.murphyfair.com/playoffhistory93.html Change is inevitable. My best guesses are Doc will be done after this year and Coach C will finish when his boy is done. But change for the sake of change rarely is worth the change. GC is a good man. His time will come and when it does it I hope it was on his own terms not on coacht terms. Be careful what you wish for. and just remember 43% of all statistics are worthless. A bad plan is better than no plan Don’t argue with a fool. The spectators can’t tell the difference
  23. bubba that statement gets you the moe-Ron of the thread award. DB didn't just become the all time winningest team in the state overnight. Glimpse of the end hardly. Not a good year? No doubt. Boone a force? Hardly. Even a blind squirrel can find a nut from TIME to TIME. They are having a fine year but a force. There local and size will decide their tradition. Same as db's has. Good luck next week.
