i am glad SOUTHERNFRIED jumped on this becuase it is the most delusional post i have read. probably by a parent of a player that isnt very good. Portland did not have the talent nor the speed to compete with anyone on their schedule this year. according to SOUTHERNFRIED and the papers, they were playing mostly sophmores due to injuries. those are the FACTS. The same staff that won last year and made the playoffs for the first time in any class other than 3A, was there this year... Roger Perry couldnt do it and Portland runs off the first coach that does. Does this make sense to anyone??? who would want this job? Blame the system... they have had 3 head coaches and up to 3 different systems of offense and defense since Perry left. they all lost. the only constant in Porland is the Talent... or the lack thereof. Well, that and delusional fans. Good luck with your search, i hope they find a good one.

Breaking News: this just in, Westmoreland is being investigated for breaking TSSAA rules after mailman reports they are already working out for football during a mandatory dead period.

this seems to be a weaker Quad which is good for Gallatin. they should roll to the second round.

Will Westy's Qb be back from his injury? this could be a defensive battle, which usually goes Westmoreland's way this season.

i know this is a district game but it is a sad state of affairs when a 6A matchup determines 5A playoff standings. c'mon TSSAA. that being said, i am going with HHS over SCHS... 38-27

i agree with eers, it has nothing to do with coaching. Portland has had 4 different head coaches since Roger Perry and only the current staff has made the playoffs. it is the "jimmys and joe" not the "x's and o's" i think it boils down to Portland being a mostly Rural 5A school playing mostly Urban 5A/6A schools. As far as this year goes, the expectations for them were a little high with the loss of so many senior playmakers from last years squad. not many teams repeat success when they graduate a top QB, RB, and OL. in the same year. BTW...Gallatin has been helped by a weak schedule this year or they would not be talking playoffs right not either... that being said, they should win this week.

You seem to be trying to hard to make this a David v. Goliath matchup and it is NOT. Westmoreland just beat Wilson Central so I doubt Portland will be overlooking them. I love when Sumner County schools match up, expect anything. I could see this game becoming a huge rivalry with two old school offenses/defenses going at it. I would also like to hear the names to be watching for on both teams...

I love how you keep saying Portland had a weak schedule when every team they played (with the exception of Gallatin and HHS) were all playoff teams. Do you consider the Wave's current schedule as weak? Portland will beat Gallatin this year as well and may be competing for 3rd or 4th place in the district.

Sumner County schools should have a weightlifting competition... seems like they used to. Maybe there not as popular as they used to be.

I could be wrong, but I think Portland is the only team in Sumner County that plays all the Sumner County High Schools.... With the exception of JPII.

I don't think he is able to teach at a public school with that on his record. That always trumps win/loss records

Pack is not the best choice to lead young men. Not all about winning championships on the high school level. FRA understood that.

Trousdale won the state at Cookeville in 2008 and 2009 under Creasy. before that in 2005 and i believe they have 2 more in 3AAA.

How long has it been since the owls and eagles played? Why don't they play every year? That game has to bring a bigger gate than Cannon co or the metro schools, not to mention better compition.

Wow. Only 24 snaps of offense? Sounds like the cougars did a great job holding on to the clock and the single wing on the bench. I think that is the first game all season that portland was held to under 300 yards. Congrats to them on a great season! I think Sumner will keep them as well Posty. I also see where Cenntinial is moving to 6A so this will be thier last go at a 5A title.

White House will be the team to watch out for once the playoffs begin... They have played a very tough schedule this year and the playoffs may be a breeze for them.

I know a lot about all the schools in sumner co and wish them all the best... Including gang ravaged Portland (that's funny) but they are doing something right to go from 0-10 to playoffs... Even you have to admit that although Beech will win 5 A. For real though... Good luck to the Eagles... They have also had a great year so far.
