  1. You can say name a private school. That is condemning but hey why not. Give two exames of the same private school Don't think it is right to call a school out by name but know for a fact this happened int Chattanooga. The private school playing in 3A public division had a kid from Chatt Central zone playing for them whose dad did some "work" painting coaches office etc. At the school they his business that got his son discount on tution in leiu of payment. The sam school had a coach kicked out of Central's gym as he was at the public middle school wrestling tournament, which the private school was obviously not part of handing out pamplets about their school and talking with parents about sending their child to said school. That is an advantage. I will be honest here I have no problem with Baylor, McCallie, GPS doing this because they play in DII. If you gonna play Public then follow public rules. Play with who shows up on your doorstep.
  2. The way I see it is simple. If a parent thinks their child has a better opportunity at a private school by all means send them. The question I have if the private route is so much better then why do you want to play in the public division? Have your own league there are plenty enough teams to have large and small class. Heck it provides an athletic tic challenge for your student athletes you can play top notch competition. Yet the privates want to stay in the public division why? Easy they have an advantage and know it they are handcuffed by zones or rural settings etc. They cry travel as a problem with the split I doubt Nashville Christian would have a problem filling the schedule with close teams DCA, FRA, CPA, New Grace school etc. The split should have occurred a long time ago, the multiplier did nothing but shift the problem. To get on here and act as if it is whining to want a level playing field is arrogant. NCS in single A can potentially get players from anywhere in Nashville or surrounding area. While a Lake Co. For example is going to pull from their rural area only.
  3. Another good week for Blackman girls as they go 8-0 again and win the Hungry Howie's tournament in franklin. Jv girls did well also on losing 1 time in the championship game of the jv tournament to Rossview by 2.
  4. This should be a competitive region. Lavergne coming off a 2nd round playoff appearance in 6A with most their talent returning should be the favorite. Stewarts Creek dropping down from 6A and in year 3 should be on the mix as well. Independence and Shelbyville will both be in the mix for a playoff spot as well. Columbia struggled last year and lost their Div. 1 TE to graduation. Not sure of the upcoming talent but they have traditionally been good. My early predictions based on these things are 1. Lavergne 2. Independence 3. Stewarts Creek 4. Shelbyville 5. Columbia 6. Franklin Co. 7. Lincoln Co. 8. Summit
  5. Heard the Blackman Lady Blaze looked good at camp last week going 8-0. Winning every game by 20 plus points as well. They will be at cp again this week as well Ravenwood and Siegel as well.
  6. Will Blackman hire Jessika Jackson as next hc. Former assistant and current head coach st Stewarts Creek. She would be a great choice and also bring her assistant State title winning coach dawn barger with her. Would be a great transition for lady blaze basketball
  7. Come on Roy Dillard. Just cause that barger man has been head coach at a couple different schools (Lake Co. And Chatt. Central) doesn't mean he moves often. I know he has moved more often than you have taken baths but it is still not often. Lol Everyone one has an opinion but sure we will know soon what coach Satterfield has decided.
  8. Oh yeah and Barger's wife can coach a little basketball as well since she made history as the first ever woman to win a state title coaching a boys team while they were in Lake Co. Was head boys coach for 3 years at LC made 3 state tournaments with a state title and runner up finish. Don't know what that has to do with the football ball job bit just threw it out there as well!! Lol
  9. Hughes not not he only candidate with head coaching experience Barger even thougj he is currently serving as the def. Coordinator at Giles Co. He has 10 years of head coaching experience 7 at Lake County and 3 at Chattanooga Central.
  10. I'm sure that there are some good coaches talking to them Wingman but doubt any have a better resume or have made history as she has.My question would be how many have made the state tourney every year as head coach and played in the finals 2 of 3 years as head coach and owns a 75% winning percentage in the state tournament
  11. Throw a name out there Dawn Barger assistant at Stewarts Creek. Prior was head boy's coach at Lake county and became first female in state to win a championship coaching a boys team. 3 years 3 state tournaments with a title, final 4 appearance and a runner-up finish. 6-2 record in the state tourney. If she applied know I would hive serious consideration to her. Have noticed Jessica and her have done a pretty good job starting up the Stewarts Creek program as well.
  12. After reading all this I will end with two thoughts. First, in my opinion a lot of the posts on here are a reflection of society today. Let's not take responsibility for our own actions let's blame someone or something else. Whether you like the TSSAA playoff system or not is not the issue, it is the lack of integrity displayed by the two teams that is the issue. No one forced these coaches to play to lose they chose to do that and know they have to live with the consequences. Don't blame the system for these coaches bad decisions. The second thing I see is that a lot of people use an issue like this to try and advance their cause. Those that don't like the playoff format now point and say see they format needs to be changed. But I could also counter with a story of a 4 seed boys basketball team a couple years ago that made it all the way to the class A finals and everyone talked about what a great story and run they had. So you can argue both sides. You can agree with me or not that is your choice but I will leave you with this if the coaches involved could watch what was going on and not feel bad about what was happening then their is more wrong than the postseason system.
  13. Lazarus true but to excuse behavior with temptation is not OK. Regardless of the temptation there is a right and wrong way to play the game. These two teams definitely made poor choices now they have to suffer the consequences
  14. Lazarus, by you name I assume you are a religious person by your logic then God is to blame for our sins. If he didn't want us to sin then why don't he remove the temptations from around us?? You know better than that!! Temptation is always there it is the individuals choice to decide their path. So don't blame the system blame the ones who chose, by free will to intentionally throw the game.
  15. Warriorfan if Riverdale is an "elite" program and good enough to win a Gold Ball then why are they dodging anyone?? Why worry about who is in your bracket if you are good enough to win the state? Smyrna is as guilty as Riverdalr but lost respect for Riverdale coach more by his comments in the newspaper. Would have had more respect for him if he would have just told the truth and said we want to be in the opposite bracket as Blackman. Not go on about being a bit out of shape and resting starters and all that BS. Oh yeah, It is laughable for you to bring up Gold ball if you are scared to play a team. Both schools are basically saying we are not good enough to win the state title we just want to get to the state tourney so we can say we were in the final 8. Still have to beat Oakland to even do that. Just know I became a huge Oakland and Backman fan after last night and hope they blow Smyrna and Riverdale out in the Region semis if they get the chance. Sounds like your coach is in the ole "everyone gets a juice pack and cookie after the game" mentality becauses his actions have just said we can't beat Blackman so we just want a way to say we got to play in MTSU and pad my resume. Do all you want to rationalize it but coach to coach, fan or whoever you are it was flat wrong ethically and a disgrace to the game and the schools bottomline. No amount of excuse making will change that.
  16. Warriorfan can't seriously believe you condone what went on in this game?? What is the purpose of competitive sports? To teach life lessons. contrary to what "fans" think it isn't all about winning championships. Winning is important no doubt but your players should be taught how to win and win the right way. Yes coaches are hired and fired over wins and losses but that is another debate about high school coaching we can have because the pressure of that helps lead to this if you ask me. The ethics displayed in the game yesterday was terrible. I am a coach, been involved or coaching sports most of my life and I would NEVER intentionally lose a game EVER!! Have a son playing now and would not want him playing for a coach that would intentionally lose for whatever reason. As a coach don't know how you look your players in the face and say hey we gonna lose today because it is better for us in the long run. You keep saying no rules were broken but ethically the game was compromised. TSSAA may not due anything but schools that hired the coaches can. They were hired to win games and be positive role models for young people teaching them the right things. Never had one person hire me to intentionally lose. So interested to see how school administration handles it.
  17. I guess warriorfan that is where I feel stats are misleading. She is one of the best players in the state and that is what the award is supposed tonrepresent. Yet she plays on a team with 4 other division one calibur players therefore doesn't have to score huge numbers. Second in many games they have huge leads over their opponent and she doesn't play much in second half. I have watched Blackman in person numerous times and watched her and Dangerfield just completely take over and dominate games. But as you said a full ride to Knoxville is not a bad consolation prize.
  18. Trojan train those coaches also spend an extra 3 to 3 and 1/2 hours extra after school Monday thru thursday, and usually don't get home to midnight or after on Fridays during football season. During season also throw in the 4-6 hours minimum over the weekend spent game planning as well. Not to mention the hours spent in the off season weightlifting players, taking them home etc. Throw in summer lifting, field maintenance in a lot of cases and you get the point. Doesn't really balance out. Because most coaches also teach classes, whether you consider them "real" or not and work as teachers as well. So in my opinion the pay does not balance out
  19. Gcpioneer not just going off who they have signed with have seen both Dangerfield and Jackson up close and personal last two years. Yeah neither are averaging huge numbers but they don't have to as they have a starting 5 full of div 1 talent. With the supporting cast they are not required to be 20 pt. Plus scorers. All I will say is if there are better players in TN then I would like to see them. And yeah you could use who they signing with if you want it is not like TN and UConn sign just any player!!
  20. As far as AAA goes no doubt to me the two best players are Crystal Dangerfield and MeMe Jackson of Blackman. Would be a shame if neither one of these ladies was a Mrs. Basketball finalist. MeMe a Tennessee commit and Dangerfield a UConn commit. Both are deserving.
  21. Didn't say Bryant was bad just stated the fact that Barger record against Grundy and Bryant was pretty good. Some people wanted to bring up records facts etc. He inherited a dumpster fire in cuholla creek. There was a reason Vic backed out.
  22. Jacketbacker might want to look at Coach Barger's record against Grundy while he was the head coach at Sequatchie. Also head to head vs. Bryant. He took Sequatchie over when they were in shambles 1-19 the two years before he arrived and got them back to relevance and a share of the region title as well. Would they hire a middle school coach with no high school coaching experience over a proven head coach or guy like Scooby who have years of high school coaching experience? Just wondering.
  23. This is not chad but TSSAA does have a rule that a player with an athletic record cannot change high schools and be eligible without a bonifide change of address. So that means the QB would have to move into Sequatchie Co. To be eligible. Furthermore the QB must move with their parent or legal guardian for it to be a bknifide change of residence. Only exception I know of is in a custodial change where parents are divorced and the child changes who he lives with.
  24. Stewarts Creek is a pretty good basketball team especially for a second year program. They are 11-2 on the year with their only losses to Oakland and Smyrna. The Smyrna game was a tuff 2 point loss where the bulldogs score a basket at the the buzzer for the win. Blackman and Oakland are the top 2 in the district no doubt but Riverdale, Smyrna and Stewarts Creek will battle it out for 3,4,5. This will be an exciting district as it is every year.
  25. Good summary warboss you guys are going to be improved and surprise some folks this year. Giles got to improve on tackling and up front to make another deep run. Hopefully they get it worked out and good luck to the pioneers this year
