  1. Got this off the MTSU website. Doesnt look like they had much trouble with Private schools when the score was like this... During his sophomore season, Ward rushed for 300 yards and five touchdowns, while passing for 250 yards and two scores in a win over Davidson Academy .
  2. Also open zoning for all schools is drawing near, which is good imho.
  3. I think Mark Byrd is in north Caroline jk
  4. As everyone here knows i support private schools but i got a scenario to run by you guys and see what yuou think. As we all know this whole things starts off with Riverdale not bein able to beat BA and here we go. As division 2 is started the private school have some phone calls back and forth and see what is going to happen in the future with a total split. The time was right to get some people in place ie coaches and athletes to make a good presence so the school only has to "recruit" for 2 or 3 years then they can live off their own sucess. Tha handwritting was on the wall so it was a good time for the privates to make sure that all good athletes know they dominate in sports and if you want a chance to play on a great team with a great coach and have a chance @ college you goto private schools. Now as you can see the rise of many of these privates sports programs coincided with the formation of Division2. I just thought that was interesting.
  5. The thing i would say to that dandy you make it seem like its always been that way with privates and thats just not the case outside of MBA, BA and the likes. I remeber getting my head handed to me in the early 90's by teams like Trousdale County, Westmoreland, Harpeth, Moore County and the likes. This is not something that happened overnight for alot of these schools , but it has happened know and we need a new set of rules because of the changing times. Private schools have out grown division 1 and its time they had their own league, but im still in favor of a multiplier because it levels the playin field.
  6. Dandy, Actually, i think i feel more animosity coming from the public school supporters, because they feel we have stolen something from them. When in truth we havent done anything but try to be the best we can at everything from education to sports. My point by asking you to look at the academic results of public schools is that is education is their first concern and sports secondary. If they do as poorly teaching the kids sports as they do educating them i think there is a reason to bring that up. As i have stated before i dont care if there is a split it does nothing but strenghten my perception and many others that privates have the best sports in the State. My school of Coarse is Ezell and the beating they layed on people the last 2 years really brought all this to a head IMHO. Lets see how the do this year without the best sports class in the schools history. I went there my brother went there so to say i might be biased is prolly correct, but i am far removed from the situation now where it doesnt affect my judgement. I hope you can see that we just want the kids to have the oppurtunity public and private alike to be able to play each other without class segragation and resentment from mostly the publics side. Personally i feel the problem is that this country is full of whinners and complainers. People that sue McDonalds For Selling Hot Coffee, People thatclaim injuries in car accidents for a payday, people that cut off their nose to spite their face, people that do things wrong then points out problems with other people without even attempting to fix their own problems. We are a country of hypocrits and complainers and are nothing like what this country was based on and its really really sad. I also find it funny that we arent the ones that started this, but people tend to try the burden of blame at our feet. I will say it again the split is fine, but as long as everyone knows Division 2 will be considered the premier league in this state, because there can be no arguments on that point simply because what you are saying is they have gotten to good and they are nothing like us.
  7. DANDY all i can say is LOL. I seriously doubt the public schools have their act together lets go look @ the public record in the classrom, which is what schools are for in the first place right? What i see is not what i would call having your act together. If there is a split we have already said we should leave the TSSAA and form our own association. Since the TSSAA is run by publics for publics and not to mention we have no voice on either board of the TSSAA i think we all know what kinda act you got together. Its called the act of majority rules and unless im wrong that is the American way. Its not hard when you are in the majority to say you are right and the minority is wrong. As far as your contention that private supporters are against a split you would be wrong again. I dont see a problem with a split other than it waters down already week divisions and that is why you see that the proposal from the TSSAA is to cut 3 or division in the Public divisions. They see the same thing we do, that if you take 10 of the top 20 teams in single A and the top 2 in 2A you need to drop atleast one division. I myself dont care if there is a split more power to ya. But we will also lay claim to the number team in TN every year, because of this split. tHANKS Smarty Pants
  8. Csense, Your obviously not reading what i wrote correctly prolly because of the bad grammar and typos. IM agreeing that there is a huge differnce between public and private schools...I AGREE. Maybe im misreading you but i would usually take that as a smart #### comment you can tell me if im wrong. The point ot me is that public school and private schools need to do all the can do in their situation. The public schools have a much larger hill to climb than privates when it comes to education and on the field. Thats why a multiplier is needed not because the privates are doing thing so much better ie coaching, training, recruiting etc ,but that the obstacles in front of public school have a NEGATIVE correlation to their results. Read alittle more next time...I think all you did was read my name then reply. Need i say more?
  9. Lazarus, Thank you for your response and you do bring up some good points. I understand that addition by subtraction is basically the function that private schools do. The subtract below average students(Education or bahviooral problems) and then only are left with top notch students and the public schools have to deal with everything from disicpline problems to below average students and provide for specail needs kids. That a huge undertaking and i can respect you and they are coming from. To answer your question on how a public school can be a better place for a speical needs student i would say the cirriculm. I know that a majity of students that cant make it at Ezell for whatever reason attend Lighthouse because they have slighly slower learning cirriculmn. Public schools are set-up, because they HAVE to accept those types of students, to handle those children with these needs already plus the pace private schools have would not not be suitable for the attention these types of students need. Plus of coarse it all comes down to money and that it would cost them a ton to educate those with those needs. As far as the schools that provide for those types of kids i dont know of many, and its not MY FAULT I WORK @ THE YELLOW PAGES I PROLLY LEFT THEM OUT!!! (just kidding) People all around the world are lining up to get into our Universities, which we can agree takes the cream off the top as well, but they dont line-up for you high school education. The only poiny i was making is that many posters make broad sweeping statements of private schools like they are all MBA, BA, McCallie etc... that are outside the norms. The best thing you said is... but i havent yet seen anything from private schools that looks like an answer. private schools succeed by not taking on challenges, and for the public schools that is not an option. This is the honest truth but the pne thing i would add is that we ahvent done everyhting we can to make the situation better.
  10. Lazarus, Sorry for my tardy response to your post i have been in and out of town. I understand the point of your post and how public schools have to take anyone and everyone to their schools. My simple reply to that is that if private schools where set-up for their best interests they would take them. Because of the small size of the schools and limited budgets(Yes Limited) it is not in the child best interest to be in a private school. Obviously you must feel that the private schools have shown the path that public schools should take. And, if the public schools are to follow the private lead, it is readily apparent that they must also begin with selective enrollment. Yes i do feel that privitization(sp) of schools is the direction we need to head. When we as a country spend more on education than any other country per student and end up 15th in education that tells me something. The reason some of these numbers are skewed is because the other countries we are compared to do have selective enrollment and makes it difficult to compare apples and apples. our stabce about the handicapped is a good point and private schools are available for people with specail needs just not all private schools. They are at least trying to do what needs to be done. The ones who dropped the ball are the ones who built little walls to hide from the complexities of the real world. Those who choose private schools are making a personal decision for their family, and that is their business. However, if someone feels like they have all the answers for the public schools, they ought to roll up their sleeves and pitch in. They are trying to get done what has to be done, but if you think for one minute that the government run schools are fullfilling the educational and discipline needs of children today i would beg to differ on that. More can be done, much more, and its a cummunity problem, a family problem, a Nationwide problem that may never be changed. If you think being in a private school shields you from the way life is i would beg to differ on that to. To be Frank with you conecption of what the average private school is like is skewed i do beleive. If you wanna see what the average school is like take a trip down I-24 and goto Hickory Hollow in Antioch and stop in @ Ezell-Harding and you might understand more of where im commin from. Trust me there is a differnce between schools like MBA and Ezell I attended both schools and can tell you that there is a huge differnce. MDA is more of your upper class Ezell is almost all middle class. Your community has something todo with it but you have to look at the state as a whole, because getting a microscope isnt gona fix your problem that is Statewide. There are many other States just like TN that do better than we do in education, but thats not the point. If you wanna settle for being in last thats right where you will end up.
  11. Well i will say it was Riverdales inability to beat Brentwood Academy. With all things being equal the simplest answer usually is the right one. They set a presedence when they split the schools so that is the hand we are dealt. I wasnt as in tune with high schools during that time, but i do know that if we mention Riverdale it really isnt fair not to mention BA, because its their actions that brought along the whole idea.
  12. I really dont get it. Most of the public supporters and private supporters agree something has to be done, but that something is where the disagreement comes in. I say put them all together ad a multiplier and be done with it. Easier to manage and not segregation where any of your championships can be challenged from either sized saying well u didnt play BA or you didnt beat Maryville etc etc... I'm afraid the small 1a schools do not have enough of a voice to make this happen but public schools as a whole do because of sure numbers. Private schools really dont have much say in the matter because of the numbers. I still stick to my orignal point that if public schools woould have been taking care of business since day one the need for private schools would be regulated to relgious preferences, and you wouldnt have one opening everywhere because of the sad state of public education. The big schools dont wanna play even though they havent proven one thing that privates have done that is illegal in a court of law(BA won that i belevie). That is why divsion 2 was orignally hatched was simply because of one school and one man Rankin @ Riverdale. It took this many years for it to trickle down to the smaller divisions and for good reason. Private schools have surpassed the growth curve over public schools, its really that simple. They grow faster and become sucessful earlier than public school because of their ability to bring in good coaches and have easily coachable kids. It is not recruiting but can be considered that because of the way they get their students. Every student that attends a private school has been recruited even the non-sports kids by either another parent, teacher, kid, or the reputation of the school. I would hate to see a total split mainly because it doesnt let anyone say they are the true state champion, because there are schools of a similar size that win one as well. I fear that the voice of the many(public schools) will drowned out the few(private schools) but this is america where the majority rules so i would expect to see whatever the public schools want, which from what i hear is a total split/ If that does happen i would expect,no demand, that all private schools form their own league and get out of the government ran TSSAA and have their money and efforts put toward a league that has their best interests at heart. 'nuff said ./end rant
  13. Maryville does but can take students from anywhere if they are willing to pay just like a private school. They simply should be in 5A if they use that same argument to boot private schools.
  14. Id have to say Turbo you know only one thing you think the players make the teams. When u get into major college football and the PRO's its a differnet story. How many players from USJ have ever signed Major College scholarship i know of 2 ever... In high school ball it is more of a reflection of the coaches and their ability to get the kids focused on a goal and to pursue it than it is what kinda athletes they are. I looked at USJ's roster and they have noone physically that you would say is imposing. They are all coaching IMHO.
  15. I have been on here discussing this problem since before there was this board, and i still stick to one my orginal thought. IN many of the states private schools get there head handed to them in athletics, those states usually have good educational sysstems. But since the State Of tennessee ranks in the bottom 2 or 3 states in Education in the nation, parents are actually just seeking a decent education not a superior one. So i still lay alot of the blame for the rapid development of the private school sector @ the feet of the public education. Private school just picked up the ball where public schools failed. This is just my opinion and i dont have a need to be flamed on here, but ive been readin alot of the things here and thought i would reiterate that point. Its time to get education out of the governments hands. Let the kids goto school where there is a chance @ a decent education.
  16. This is how i see it. !) Better coaching in most cases prolly not in your case PUJO. MOre money they can pay. 2) Easier Coached kids(that are above average students or they couldnt make it at the school) 3) Better SUpport the parents and teachers are more hands on becuase of lower student teacher ratio. Along with noone is gonna waste their money and not take a vested interest in what their kids are doing or how welll they are doing it. 4) Being suceessful is contagious. Once they start winning you dont see them drop off much. Everyone wants to say they recruit and are actively seeking ATHLETES, which is not true unless your a Brentwood Academy or the likes. The school itself recruits because of a better learning enviroment the odds are better that you will attend college if you attend a private school. Went to Ezell's graduation Saturday and 100% of them are going to college. Can any public school claim that... i seriously doubt it. The idea of the schools itself is where the the real differences exist. Private school are there for excellence in ALL things and to do what it takes for that to happen. Public schools do not have that same mindset, which to me is the whole problem with not only the school system but also AMerica as a whole. We Settle... We settle for passing grades when we should look for A's.... We settle for doing a job "Good Enough For Government work"... we settle for ho hum relationships instead of ones that last a lifetime. My rant ends here but i do beleive deep down that the problem isnt the privates doing things that are illegal or recruiting its more along the lines of the publics not doing what they should do. I think taking the control out of the governments hands and into some kind of private organization is the ultimate answer. There has to be a reason why we spend more on education than any other country but yet we rank 15th in the world in education. Our governement @ work. But Pujo you know i agree they should prolly be split but at the same time its for different reason thatn other people that support it.
  17. Pujo, You know and i know that 3A still wouldnt stand a chance againt Lipscomb and Goodpasture so i dont see that as an option. The split will prolly happen to bad it couldnt happen for you guys before this senior class graduates.
  18. If you are not knowledgable on the subject please refrain from posting Turbo kthx.
  19. Muhahaha.... My How times have changed i think i like it alot more now that people actually talk about Ezell as the 800lb gorilla in their midst its almost funny. We have a couple of good years and its like we rocked the world or something. Lemme give you some reasons why Ezell will be ok even tho they lost 16 starters. 1) Coach Smith- Hes a good coach and a good guy. Give him a qb a few receivers and ummm you better watch out. 2) Winning - Winning is contagous the guys that are Juniors have lost 1 game in high school. The seniors have lost a total of 6 games in 3 years and 5 in one year. 3) After playin DL and Goodpasture, who if i was a betting man i would lay my money on, single A competition should be fun. 4) Skill Postions - They have skill players even some that might not get to play this year that would start on any other team, but they are #2 on the depth chart. The one thing they will have to address is the line, because they lost a majority of their line to graduation. They get back 2 o-lineman and 1 d lineman in a 44 alignment they play. Their main problem will lie on the defensive side of the ball losing 9 starters on that side of the ball alone. If they make it into the playoffs and get to play the region 6 teams again look for them to make at least a 2nd round appearance. Also on a side note i find it funny that teams like Riverdale wont play the BA's and MBA's of the world but they will go and schedule a game against an opponent that will have half as many players and a school the have 6 times as many students as they so. Its like picken on someones little brother for beating you up at school. Also for anyone that hasnt heard why Gettis went to Ezell... Here you go. He was at a metro public school along with his brother and his dad hated what he saw happening there as far as strucutre and so forth so he put them into private school at Ezell. Sounds like to me he was sending them there to have a chance at a good education. This is a man that attended the same school his son was @ and his exact quote.... "Public schools where fine when i was in school.. but know they are a.........JOKE, and have no strucutre" and "Private schools are like what public schools where in the 70's and 80's public schools in metro resemble juvenile correction than they do a school" But ill stop know cause this belongs on the "Other Board"
  20. SuperSteve, Best Post ever thank you it ecos my sentiments to a T. Why should private schools supporters even try to debate this thing we are gonna lose by sure numbers anyways.
  21. Doesnt USJ have like everyone comming back. Cause i Know Ezell, CPA, Boyd, COllinwood, and Bruceton lost alot.
  22. Ya Csense if taking the more rounded student then we do have a problem.
  23. Didnt CPA Win The STate To..
  24. CSENSE Student A plays no sports, but his/her test scores and financial situation is the same as Student B who just so happens to excell in 2 or 3 sports. Who is enrolled if there is only room for 1? I'm not saying they do, please don't say I am, but it does make you wonder. The kid that had more extra-cirricular activites would make it in. It demonstartes the ability to handl many things at one time and more rounded individual. No question in my mind that is the only way i made it into MBA from the 6trh grade. I didnt havent great scores in my classes but i did play 3 sports and did well on the entrance tests. I am sure many kids had much higher scored in their classes but thats all they did goto school study and play. I went to school went to practice then studied not only for my classes but playbooks and so on. so i did much more with my time. Now you didnt ask if one was a better athlete or a super athlete because i was neither. I was just a solid o-lineman. If they take one student over another, because they are a better athlete then you have a legitmate gripe but most of these schools are turning anyone down. [Edited by Chakra20 on 5-2-03 12:38P]
