baseballguy12 - You must have received some incorrect information. Munford defeated Cordova 6-2 in the district championship. Munford is the #1 seed and hosts Jackson Northside while Cordova will travel to Dyersburg.

Covington is the only undefeated team remaining after defeating Brighton 12 to 1 on Saturday. Sophomore hurler Tyler Mathis improved to 10-0 with the victory. Brighton will have to rebound quickly in order to beat Ripley again today. The winner of that game will play Covington in the championship.

You've got my respect. I only saw the Falcons play two games this year - week 7 at Anderson Co. and the championship game against Covington. The coaching staff at Fulton did an excellent job with their kids this year. It was amazing how much this team improved during the second half of the season. It looked as if the coaches developed more and more confidence in Long as the year progressed. In the championship game, they just let him go out and make the plays. And Stevens was THE MAN. He did it all and was one of the best players I saw this year. I hope he gets everything in order to have a successful career following high school. I know you guys are state champs, and I believe you could compete with any team in the state - no matter what classification. I just wish that some Fulton fans (notice I said some, not all) would show a little more humility and not talk so crazy.

VolunteerGeneral, Melrose may not have moved the ball very well in the 2nd half because they didn't have to. Coach Ingram may have decided to coast on in to the semifinals and leave all the tricks in the bag for Hillsboro. I wasn't at the game, so I really don't know - Just a guess.

I thought of one thing Covington can say they won. Well actually two things. Those would be both games they played against Ripley at Tiny Knee Stadium this season. And in case you forgot, that 2nd win ended your season. Do you think playing tough non-region opponents may have prepared Covington a little better for the playoffs than blowout wins over Manassas and Treadwell? There were three teams tied for 1st place in Region 7-3A, which makes Covington, Ripley, and Obion Co. co-champions. That's why they had to go to tiebreakers -- to determine playoff seedings.

rebebabe, I was just wondering if you would trade the win against Covington for a win in the 2nd round of the playoffs against Brighton. I assume you wouldn't since you said all that matters is that the Rebels beat Covington in Troy.

Daryl Walker has moved on to the Tipton Co. Board of Education as the Director of Pupil Services. He was a great principal and seems to be enjoying his job at the board.

cavfanfolife- You of all people should be able to tell the folks that Ridgeway was for real last year. They had a more talented football team last year, they just happened to be in 3A - and if they had not moved up in class, they still would not have been as successful as they were last season.

There are a combination of factors that have contributed to Munford being down the last few years. The biggest factor is probably the addition of the third high school in Tipton County. For many years during the 80's and 90's, there was no high school in Brighton. Although some of the students at Brighton would have been zoned to go to Covington, the majority of them would be at Munford. Like Saintdog said earlier in the thread, the community isn't used to this and would like to see a team more like those they watched during the 90's. Incidentally, the head coach of those teams, Darry Marshall, is now the principal at the school, so I would expect a good hire to be made in the very near future.

Don't worry about Covington's schedule. Just keep playing Manassas, Treadwell, and Helen Keller School for the Blind.

Wes, I hope your congratulations isn't premature. Maybe I was able to pull it out, but I won't be sure until the Big Ones is updated. Picking the games is both fun and challenging because anything can happen in high school football. Let's keep it going in the playoffs.

Wes, Is the contest over after this week? I thought I remembered picking some playoff games last year. Oh, by the way, I may be ahead by one right now, but there were many games that were tough to decide which way to go on this week. There are a lot of them that can go either way.

It's a real shame that this method of tiebreaker is used to determine playoff seedings. After beefing up their non-region schedule, Covington may be rewarded with a three seed. Maybe it is better to play Manassas and Treadwell than Germantown and Milan. It just seems that something else should be used, maybe points allowed in region games. Even so, I think the Chargers will be better off in the long run because of playing quality opponents.

Munford's 1-4 record with their lone win over Memphis Carver looks very unimpressive, but they have been in every game they have played. The Cougars have had a chance to win them all with the exception of the Covington game. They have some kids that are playing well right now, but the Trojans should still win the game, but maybe not as easy as you think.

charger fan - you shouldn't try to reason with kma02. It's obvious that his knowledge of football is very limited. As far as him getting Ripley fired up for this game, I don't think they will need any extra motivation to be fired up for this one. This game has been circled on the Ripley schedule since it was first printed.
