  1. Just what I touched on below. I truly believe that talent makes a good coach. Very seldom does a coach win a game, however I have seen several lose games.
  2. Were you drinking while watching? Loudon would easily beat BB. Loudon drilled Polk County who was second best team last year in region that BB is in now. Only games Loudon lost this year were to Alcoa.
  3. I've heard three different people state that it was over assistant coaches pay, but I didn't see that anywhere in article. Where is this info coming from? How long would it take to turn Bradley program around? Are there any up and coming athletes? How many starters return and who are key people?
  4. Two reasons- 1)The main reason is pay. You would have to be an assistant on the Div.1A level to make more money than a high school coach, or a coordinator at Div.1AA level. Most coaches would at very least have to be assistants at small level before moving up the ranks. 2)Most of the ones people on this board consider great coaches are just a product of the talent on the field. You can't measure coaching ability on the high school level by wins and losses. Take for example- John Allen. At LFO he was considered great because he was winning, comes to Bradley and they win one game. Did he all of the sudden forget everything he knew, no it was talent level. Take Tim Hammontree for example. He wins state title at Maryville -great coach. Now he is average at Rhea County. I promise if you put George Quarles or Gary Rankin at a school with no talent (to keep from making anyone mad I won't name a school) they wouldn't seem like such great coaches. Now does that mean these guys aren't great coaches, obviously not. I just hate to see all these threads on coacht about who is best coach in state and everytime the only ones mentioned are the guys that are winning state titles. Has much more to do with talent level that actual coaching ability.
  5. The best by far has to be Blake Jenkins of Bearden. He is son of former Vol Fred Jenkins. Blake is 6'4 and Bruce Pearl is all over him.
  6. Yes, they finished second when Marty was the coach- but it wasn't because of him. They were loaded with talent that year and really underperformed all year until playoffs. I'm not sure Gossett would be the best choice, but if they don't have any teaching slots open up he will be their guy. He is definitely best choice on staff right now. Not many people I know would take this job unless they let you bring several guys with you. Don't think that is going to happen. Good luck to Chargers and anyone that takes this job.
  7. I agree, that's why I'm leaving it for someone else.
  8. Why did Wattenbarger resign? Is he looking to move?
  9. I think they are taking applications right now. Stone High School will play a JV schedule the first year.
  10. Junior High was pretty bad last year, i haven't seen them this year- but seventh grade team last year was one of worst I've seen so I can't imagine they are good this year.
  11. Grid, you didn't answer. Are you interested in either opening in Cumberland County?
  12. Another name that might be interested is Mackersie from Polk County. He was off coordinator at McMinn in 2004 and head coach at Sequatchie County before that, just a possibility.
  13. Grid, are you interested in either opening in Cumberland County? I agree also, Davis won't go to Central as he is teaching on 180 day contract so he can double dip. He wouldn't be able to do that as a head coach.
  14. My question is what is going to happen to the Lady Cherokees two years from now? When this group of juniors leave, there is not much left on the table. Last years middle school teams finished in this order 1) Englewood (all players went to Central) 2) Mtn View (all players went to Central) 3) Riceville (best player went to Central, only one went to McMinn) 4) Calhoun (all players went to Walker Valley) The top 3 schools this year should be 1) Englewood (all players will go to Central) 2) Mtn View (all players will go to Central) 3) Calhoun (all but one will go to Walker Valley and the one is a maybe) This spells doom for Lady Cherokees.
  15. Didn't Tellico finish 2nd last year behing Walker Valley? I think they return all 5 starters plus the Witt girl who was out with an injury.
  16. I really think it will be difficult for anyone to win under circumstances that are now in place at Central. Good luck to Brandon, Brian, or whoever wants this job, it's not going to be easy.
  17. Actually it was 23-6. McMinn had two turnovers on first two plays from scrimmage. Bradley scored first and went up 6-0. McMinn then scored to make it 7-6 at half. McMinn dominated second half by keeping ball on ground. Had about 300 yards rushing. McDermott had about 150 and got over 1000 yards for season. There is definitely talent at McMinn. With a few coaching additions McMinn will be ready to roll in next few years.
  18. Sorry NotreDamedad, but I can't vote for anyone that can recruit their players. I'm not arguing that Charlie isn't a good coach, because he is...but it's much harder to win when you have no control over talent of your players.
  19. As many calls as Sweetwater gets, it's about time one went the other way. It's common knowledge that you have to score 3 TD's to get one when you play at Sweetwater.
  20. What do you think needs to be done to get McMinn back in playoffs where they belong? Is it talent, coaching, leadership, heart, facilities, desire, scheme? What's your opinion?
  21. I'm going to say Notre Dame wins this one by a score of 24-14. Two completely different styles are going to clash. I give edge to Notre Dame for two reasons- speed and special teams. Notre Dame's front four on defense are the best I've seen this year. Polk will be able to run the ball, but I don't think they can do it consistently enough to control clock and keep Notre dame's offense off the field. Notre Dame's RB is best in region. He is fast and strong. He will break one or two before night is over. Notre Dame has excellent punter and kicker, these guys might be the difference. Polk's best chance to win will be to control clock and create a few turnovers. It will not take a perfect game from Polk to win, but they must play well. I'd love for Polk to win, but I just don't see it happening.
  22. Meigs should beat Sweetwater. I'll say Meigs 21-14.
  23. Grundy isn't even in same league as Notre Dame. I'll be surprised if grundy scores. I'll say 42-0, Notre Dame.
