  1. Actually Bennett is from Nashville. He was an asst. at McMinn though. He has coached several playoff teams including McMinn when they went 9-3 (I think) under Hutchins a few years ago. I've heard they only have openings in English, Math, and Spanish at this time. They also have to hire a head girl's basketball coach. Are any of the applicants certified in one of these areas? If so, that might put them at the head of the pack.
  2. What's the expectations for Tellico this year? When does spring practice start? Who will tote the ball this year? Is Gordon Kelley still coaching or did they hand the reigns over to Trevor Hunt? Best of luck to the Bears this year!
  3. McMinn County girl's head job is open.
  4. Interviews will begin Monday. 5 names for sure will get an interview- 1) Brad Bennett 2) Bo Cagle 3) Josh Goodin 4) Scott Smith 5) Mike Zeller
  5. I'd bet on Brad Bennett, but that's just a guess.
  6. Two best they could hire in order. 1) Mark Cagle- don't know if he's interested or not, but he's the perfect man for the job. He currently coaches in SC, but played at JC and won National Championship at Furman. Family is well known in Community and he's got the experience and savvy that is needed right now. 2) Joe Pinkerton- he's been assistant on Maryville staff for all the titles. He's another great christian guy that grew up in Jeff City. He doesn't have the experience that Mark has of being head coach, but he's seen first hand how it should be done. Honorable mention- Lamar Brown- he's proven himself very capable at Morristown West. JMHO- from a former Patriot.
  7. Word on street is that it's between Lockerby and Grant Swallows of Tech. Swallows may have advantage because he's an English major.
  8. Usually tribefan you are right on with situations regarding Mullinax.....but this time I bet you are wrong. Word on street is WV has found a booster willing to build Mullinax a house and that he's taking the job. Also, any coach should be able to go in and turn that program around as they were worst coached team in America from what I saw. They have lots of talent, especially in their 9th and 10th grade class.
  9. Just curious as to this statement "This county will not stand for losing and will not accept these types of comments as a reason why we are not winning football games. " When was the last time McMinn County has fired a coach in any sport? I bet it has been over 20 years.
  10. Congrats to the Kees! I've seen alot of negative on here about the coaches, maybe some of those posters should be eating a little crow as Hutchins and staff did an excellent job last night. I'm sure that win will go along way in helping the players gain the confidence they need to be successful. Good luck Kees!
  11. Problem is...they shouldn't have been 3-7 the last two years. McMinn has the talent to win Friday, but they won't be able to do it being one-dimensional. Farragut's D is just too good. They play a 3-3 stack D that will shut down the Cherokees unless McMinn can hit a few passes early and loosen them up. McMinn may want to try to go to shotgun 4 wide a little to enable Johnson some room to make things happen with his legs. They aren't going to be able to play smash mouth with Farragut. Farragut's front 6-7 is better than McMinn's. Here's hoping the Cherokees figure out what will work friday night.
  12. After last season their head coach resigned. They hired a guy from Alabama or Mississippi and then he decided not to come. Then they hired Scott Estep and he went through spring drills, but now I notice on Monroe County web site they are looking for a head coach. What gives? What happened to Estep? How are the Marooners going to be this year?
  13. Well, it's hard to tell. To say Central holding McMinn to only three scores might sound good, but I think they only had the ball for four possessions. Three ended in scores and the 4th was a 4th and 1 where McMinn coach called a naked bootleg and Central didn't bite on the fake. With that said, I think it's hard to tell how good Central will be- like you said they have only been with the new coach for 9 days. I also think Central will see several freshmen in lineup this fall, so that will be a factor as well. Let's see how they look in fall scrimmages before making a decision on what kind of team Central will have this year. Best of luck-
  14. Who won the scrimmage? Who looked impressive? Did Russell Hamm and Nick Davis really quit at Central? Let us know-
  15. Dallas, Ga is East Paulding High School. John Reid from Alcoa is new head coach. I know Tim Hammontree of Rhea and Robert Reeves of Stone Memorial both went to be his assistants. Not sure if there are any others.
  16. Are their any 7 and under basketball teams in Chattanooga or Knoxville area? I'm really looking for next year. When is cutoff date for birthdays in AAU?
  17. Sounds like some are really getting dedicated around there, that's great to see. I wish the Rams nothing but the best of luck.
  18. 4'8 will win some small meets. 5'2 will win most big meets. It will take 5'6-5'8 to win state or best of preps most years.
  19. If Tyner had Maryville's coaches they would win state every year. They are consistently the most talented team around, but they continue to sweep through the regular season against teams that can't come close to matching up and then get beat in playoffs by teams that are just better coached. Here's hoping this is the year Tyner figures it out and wins it all.
  20. I noticed where Robert Reeves has already resigned at Stone Memorial, any chance he goes to Bearden?
  21. Polk will have to get alot better fast if that's going to happen. They lost to Walker Valley in a scrimmage and didn't look very good. Central and Tellico have new coaches. Central hired Brandon Derrick from GA, and Tellico hired CN assistant Scott Eastep. Brandon played at Central, so he's going back home. Scott used to be head coach at Grace Christian Academy i believe. Not sure if either has named coordinators yet. Polk is going back to traditional style wing-T and John Mackersie (formerly head coach at Sequatchie County) will be running the offense.
  22. I agree that if it were done out of spite, then it is a sad situation. However, I still adhere to the fact that no one made him curse- he chose to do that. No, he shouldn't be taken out of the classroom because coaching is like a second job. Now, if he starts dropping fbombs in the classroom (which I highly doubt) then I'm sure he will be let go. Listen, I don't know if the punishment really fits the crime either. I also don't know anymore about the situation than what I've read on here and the paper. I'm just supporting the fact that MW is holding their teachers and coaches to a higher standard. Unfortunately that's not the norm in today's society. Some on here are right, I've heard coaches that I'm sure are much worse. However, that doesn't make it right. I'm sure the coach is sorry and let his temper get the best of him. I'm also sure he's probably an outstanding young man and coach. However, I'm still glad MW has chosen to show the kids that there is a right way to behave and a wrong way, and that there are consequences for your behavior in life. The choices you make dictate the life you lead.
  23. No, I am not a saint. No, I don't have anything to do with Morristown West. Now, what if you send your kid to school and the English teacher gets mad and starts cursing? Then the kid goes to Math and same thing happens. I just don't understand how some can just dismiss this action and say well, he just made a mistake. Teachers and coaches in high school are supposed to be in this for the kids (cause it sure ain't for the money). They need to act like mature adults and remember that kids are watching there every move. If you allow the coach to go on a cursing rampage just because you lose a game, then how are you going to discipline a kid who throws his bat when he strikes out? What about the kid that cusses out the ump for a bad call? No one is saying that Stansberry should be banned for life. I just said I agree with the decision to let him go for this season. Why you ask? For the reasons I just mentioned. There is no way he can control discipline of his players when they have seen his actions first hand. If this is first incident (which I doubt because of other poster saying it's not) then maybe he should be allowed back as head coach next year. If he has a history of these actions, then I wouldn't want him coaching my child. I want my child to learn how to win and lose with class. I want my child to learn there is a right and wrong way to act. Don't you?
  24. JMHO- A coach is hired to do his job in a professional manner, if he was dropping fbombs in front of 14-18 year old kids- then he wasn't doing the job intended by the people who hired him. You have to teach kids how to win with class and how to lose with class. I didn't say you teach kids to be happy with losing, there is a big difference. No one is more competitive than me, but I would never curse in front of the kids I coach. That is problem with society today, we just want to quickly dismiss every screw up and pretend it's ok. If a player had been dropping fbombs then I'm sure they would have received punishment. A coach must be held to a higher standard than the players, thus a more severe punishment. You would be surprised how many of these kids look at their coach as the only positive figure in their life. I don't think anyone can say the coach was set up by the player who videotaped his rampage on cell phone. No one made the coach say what he did. I hope Chuck learns a valuable lesson, and I'm sure he'll get another chance on down the line. I wish him nothing but the best of luck in the future, but as an outsider- I think the right decision was made. Hopefully, the players will learn a valuable lesson about accountability as well.
