Congrats to Grundy County for being the second best team in the state. I have no doubt that the championship was played for on Thursday morning.
In regards to the 1st baseman (Melton?), it appeared that he consistently tripped runners. I understand his frustration, though. As a member of the media, I had decent access to the field and had a very close look through a telephoto lens. Just calling it as I saw it, the first baseman did stick a foot out. It's not my place to say if it was intentional or not, but he certainly was making some illegal plays. Finally, the 3rd base umpire gave Grundy a team warning for all the fouls. That being said, Milan was not exempt; the malicious slide at 2nd did occur, but again I don't know if it was intentional.
I did not see West elbow the guy on the third base line.
I also didn't see any contact (other than incidental) between #4 and Ramsey.
In such an emotion-charged game, both teams are likely to get somewhat physical and aggressive. It's what happens when you pit the two best teams in the state against each other.
It's also odd that Milan people thought the 1st base umpire was giving bad calls.
Anyway, congratulations to both teams on outstanding seasons and even more congratulations for their sportsmanship.
