  1. Hey TSMoke...did you ever play d-1 college football as a three way player? B/c Majors did, and despite the fact it was fifty years ago he was a gifted athlete. The fact he did pretty much the same in high school as he did in college and was a candidate for the heisman trophy while at UT should say something about your knowledge of football and history. Also, UT and Pittsburg felt he was good enough to lead their programs for several decades. Honestly, show a little respect for some people that have actually accomplished something, I don't see your name on the list anywhere.
  2. Terrance "the truth" Bell needs to be playing D-1, he's too quick. Look at that K-State RB and what he just did to Oklahoma, Barry Sanders, etc, I'm not saying he is at their level, but should get a chance, he's insane.
  3. If I had known about Terrance "the truth" Bell beforehand I would not have considered it an upset, but as I had not heard of him, I will say Huntingdon shocked the world, and alot of DL kids. I don't care if they win the championship now, it is TAINTED. It should be USC and LSU playing, period. You cannot lose by 28 points in your final game in your conference championship and be able to play for the national championship. Nebraska had that big controversy a few years back when they got stomped by Colorado and then were killed by Miami. I am not saying Oklahoma is not one of, if not still the best, but they no longer deserve the title shot, they blew it.
  4. wow. someone please end this thread before i have to make a joke about the distubutationization. whoops, too late. DISTRIBUTION
  5. Without a doubt it would be Oklahoma losing by 28...that is just ridiculous. I didn't see the Huntingdon game coming either, but come on, OU was supposed to be invincible and lost by 28.
  6. You might know Riggs was good if you have seen him playing at UT...then again, pretty much any back who played at UT can be considered a great back. Reggie Cobb would've been if he didn't have the drug problem. King from Riverdale was amazing, James Stewart, Travis Stephens, Troy Fleming, Terrance Bell is my new hero, Westmoreland, but I am shocked that no one has mentioned Fred Lane, standout RB from Franklin High School who played for the Carolina Panthers in the NFL until his life was tragically ended.
  7. T I was most definitely there, sorry I didn't think you would be. Bell had one of the most impressive efforts I've ever seen, the line made huge holes, but he made DL's secondary look like they were standing still, it was amazing. Obviously he is not Barry Sanders, my point was that he reminded me of him with the way he ran last night and anyone who saw it, and in particular was there would say about the same. What kind of offers has he gotten for playing college?
  8. Wow. I have never seen anyone do what he did before...maybe one time, Barry Sanders. Even so it was amazing to see in person. He needs to be playing at the next level, he proved he belongs there.
  9. WOW! 500 fans??? Are you serious? That is pathetic. I wouldn't be bragging about that if I were you. This thread has taken a sad turn. Everyone is talking about trash talking and motivating the other teams, well news flash, you have to actually say something worth motivating them. There was an interesting article on espn.com today about the art of trash talking, I'd suggest you all read it, but I don't think it would help, especially ramtrain(see ramtrain vs. stangs thread), first try and catch up some on grammar and spelling...that was one of the worst things I have ever read, and not just spelling and grammar, the content sucked too. The only person I've been at all impressed with is Van Halen, you just can't buy stuff like that. The rest of you guys are worthless, I'm picking Lipscomb because they are better, my prediction is 45-3 because of how annoying all the Tyner fans are. I haven't seen either team play yet this year, and I know both are good, but with all the talk from Tyner, they are just asking for it.
  10. sabertooth tiger: i'd bet 51 dollars that they would. MATH guy: 15-39 = -24....I'd try and fix it for you but I have no clue where you were going with that. That made no sense to me. You'll have to explain the other numbers to me, I'm confused.
  11. david lipscomb has NO chance. i ran it through my mathematical formula that i created for college football and according to it houston county will win by over 28.6 points. in order for david lipscomb to win, it would have to be -12 degrees outside and houston county would have to have 11 turnovers, and the coaches headsets not work. and aliens would have to show up and force houston county to harvest their crops. i promise this formula is accurate, i will be vindicated when tcu beats oklahoma by at least 19.33333333333 in the sugar bowl, just wait and see. as for the playstation, that is ridiculous, the tn high school football game doesnt come out on ps2 until next spring, i've already reserved my copy. but back to the game at hand, houston county says they are better, and clearly they have proven their point, david lipscomb cannot overcome those improvements or hope to have made improvements themselves, hc made so many improvements, none were left. everyone else will lose. houston county is the champion of the universe, not just in football, but in LIFE.
  12. so wait, there is the chance then that gallatin STILL might make the playoffs? i thought they had already lost the appeal. is this another one? if so what will happen to the playoff picture? who plays who then? who gets left out? i feel sorry for gallatin, but i'd hate to think what will happen if they get back in the playoffs now, that means someone would be out, right? and only a day before their game? wow. the tssaa really needed to take care of this right the first time so the season of several teams didnt come down to a judge's ruling the day before the start of the playoffs.

    BA vs. MBA

these are some of the worst arguments i have ever read. the tssaa has even said the officials made the wrong call and should not have sped up in order to spot the ball quicker. to watchthis: about the player walking off the field, he also saw the clock hit zero, the field goal should not have happened and therefore since it did and you made it him being there doesn't matter. and the holding penalties that mba got away with all game, great observation, i was watching and ba NEVER got away with any penalties, the officials called them for it every time. come on, you won, why are you complaining about penalties that were/werent called? that happens both ways and its just ridiculous. for a while this was interesting, but now that the tssaa has reached a decision and said that mba basically got robbed, there isnt much more to talk about. ba can say they outplayed mba and dominated stats and whatever else they want, but bottom line is they didn't dominate the scoreboard and if the officials had done their job mba still wouldve won even though they didnt play their best. hats off to both teams though, they both played hard. though i am neutral, part of me wanted to see mba get beat, but not like that. i was mad after the game because mba should have won, period. and the official clock is the scoreboard, the officials don't have their own clock.
  14. wow. long thread. first my top ten 1 lincoln county 2 ba 3 mba 4 brentwood, dc, franklin 7 david lipscomb 8 riverdale 9 hillsboro 10 vandy ...ok not really, they are worse. Lincoln Co. is number one for a simple reason, they have not lost yet. They are in the toughest classification and have won all their games, so until they lose, they are number one. BA and MBA are behind them b/c they have more talent and depth and money than any teams on the list. next, the 3 way tie, and ranked in that order, though I personally hope we will be shown otherwise in the weeks to come. David Lipscomb is an outstanding football team, regardless of classification. I'm disappointed in the fans on both sides who have resorted to "my team can beat your team b/c of x, y, z". At franklin we usually reserve that for brentwood, and even then are usually more controlled. As for david lipscomb, I have several friends as well as cousins and the like that attend there and I have always known them to be good sports who are old school in that they let their play speak for themselves. If you don't think David Lipscomb belongs, look at what they did in the playoffs last year, unbelievable, and they are undefeated this year. Can they beat teams week in and week out that are in higher classifications? NO ONE KNOWS. Maybe they could, that is the point, you don't know because they don't play those teams week in and week out, you have no clue how tough they are. The only players who really matter in this discussion are the ones on the field for your team, so unless BA (just an example) or anyone else plans to run them out on the field in the next couple weeks, that doesn't matter, unless we are talking greatest team of all time, which might be the most worthless debate ever. Stats don't show alot of things. So anyone who wants to argue who's better based on those might want to see if they have "heart" listed, or maybe "desire", "determination", etc, along with the fact that many players stats suffer because of an extremely balanced team, or superior team in which they do not play the whole game. I've forgotten what else there was to talk about, oh, yeah, Coach Johnson. Not to harp on anyone, but I think it is important to keep in mind that McAddams has been at David Lipscomb for 20 years ( I think someone said). How about we check in on TJ then and if you want to draw comparisons to others then it would be appropriate. TJ is a young coach, but he has established a program quickly at Franklin and to say that he is only a good coach because he hasn't won the championship is a bit extreme, first of all because he is only in his second season and also because I know a few coaches who you would consider great regardless of whether or not they won any championships, and many that never did. Big games are always relative, for Centennial, their game against Franklin is a big game, to us it is a rivalry, but not a big game. We consider Brentwood and playoff games big games b/c they are important. Ask Gary Waller about big games and you'll lose your head, point is, big games are what you make of them, and what others make of them, but the game is still the same. I'm just getting tired of typing now. So I'm going to finish with an observation, because I don't remember any other comments: People keep saying how we will never know who is the best, and in general, having not seen all the teams play, I would agree, and the thing is, you are not going to get a consensus on that because these teams never will all play each other. You think the USA Today is an authority on high school athletics? if they are it is only because no one else is. I guarantee that there are teams who don't belong anywhere on that list and probably more teams that belong on the list. It's hard to compare what you don't know, and I am know that as far as high school football goes, coming to a consensus on the best team in Tennessee is practically impossible because most teams will never be on the same field.

    BA vs. MBA

Would someone please tell me again that it doesn't matter when the ball was kicked, only when it was snapped, because I didn't know that. I was talking about when the ball was snapped, and by my account, and the account of every other person I have talked to agrees that it appeared to be much more than one second that ran off before the ball was SNAPPED. Even with the extra .9 seconds, BA did not appear to get the snap off, I admit it was close, but it was the referees job to be watching the clock and make the right call. I'm not a fan of either team, just a neutral observer who thinks that MBA got robbed on that call. But bottom line, BA did what they had to to be in the game at the end to have a chance to tie it up, MBA didn't put them away, with clock management, defense, or special teams. It's hard to make excuses for them not coming out in OT and playing well or at least getting the field goal to keep the game going, but they did get robbed at the end of the game.
  16. The only thing about that is that is was incidental contact. No one called a foul, even the coach noted that the refs made the correct call. I don't recall hearing the Franklin player threatening the girl immediately after that, but I could be wrong.
  17. Franklin is co champ with DC and Brentwood b/c they all finished with one loss in the region, to each other. However Franklin was the only team with two losses, losing early this year to Lincoln Co., so they were the number 3 seed, and Brentwood beat DC head to head, so they are the number one seed, w/ DC number 2. T - i just saw that you already posted most of this, but I typed it up too so I'm going to put it out there. I don't even care. Besides, you can't say anything about anything. you just admitted to being a Wynonna fan. wow. not that there is anything wrong with that

    BA vs. MBA

itzme, great account of the game. The only thing that I would argue is that it appeared to be much longer than .9 seconds on television. I admit I was watching on Comcast, but it definitely appeared to be longer than one second before BA kicked the ball. Regardless, it was a great game, congratulations to both teams for a hard fought game, hopefully with a rematch to come.
  19. It'd be a great game, no doubt, but I am surprised that no one has mentioned Monica Dunham, I haven't seen anyone stop her yet and it would be interesting to see how Baylor would fare.
  20. Would you like to be a little more specific in exactly how the referees prevented us from finding true champions? This is the first I have heard of any serious complaints about officiating, and though I am sure they were not perfect, to say they prevented us from finding a true champion is a bold statement. Franklin and Baylor deserved to win, they were the better teams on Sunday. I'm a bit skeptical of there being proof the refs had any undue effect on the outcome of the games.
  21. I saw the game on television and do not know what the ruling on the on/off field clock is. From what I saw the clock ran out 2 if not 3 or more seconds before the ball was snapped and kicked. Granted the officials may have made the right call, but it sure seemed awfully bad with how poorly the final minutes of the game were played. BA won the game in overtime fair and square, but were handed the game in regulation, so it is difficult to say who deserved to win, as much as I hate to admit it, MBA deserved that game, and will prove it in a couple weeks.
  22. I was not at the game, but watched it on CSS, and I saw almost the entire fourth quarter, including the final play(s), MBA was completely screwed on the final play of the game, the clock clearly read 0:00 for at least a second or two before the ball was snapped and BA made the field goal that should not have counted. I would blame the officials for the loss, they were robbed, but I think it is important to note that the field goal only tied the game, MBA still could have won the game, but did not come out with the intensity they needed in overtime and ultimately lost. Both teams played great and it is a shame that the game was decided by a bad call.
  23. I can't vouch for the private schools, but as for public and specifically 5A, Lincoln Co. has proven themselves to be the best so far, only gettting close games from Franklin and Riverdale. I would have all 3 of those in the top 10, with Franklin right behind Lincoln Co. because I think they are playing much better than they were in that early season matchup. MBA probably has more size and more sophisticated plays and formations (not to mention money and resources) but I would be willing to bet that Lincoln Co., Franklin, and probably a couple other 5A teams could hang with just about anyone in state.
  24. I can attest to signs being made by both sides. The difference is that our administration wouldn't allow us to have them and would take them away, while Brentwood, never to my knowledge was prevented from using them. Both of us can/did make inappropriate signs with objectionable/uncalled for/(and funny) stuff that high school kids do. We all get worked up about it and more times than not we are all guilty of it at one point or another.
  25. I haven't seen either team play, but from what I hear, both have excellent programs. As to Milan winning 31-14, that would be a shocking score, given that Lipscomb only gave up 8 points in the playoffs last year and only a handful of teams average more points a game than Lipscomb this year (mostly 5-A teams). Lipscomb is a very disciplined team, and also deep, the first string doesn't even play much in the second half of most of their games, so a matchup with Milan would make for a tremendous championship game if both were to make it that far. Based on my informants, Lipscomb is a tall order to handle, Milan is a great team, but for now I would have my money on Lipscomb pulling out another title.
