  1. The Owls toughest games were William Blount and first game with Farragut, IMO. In both games Ooltewah made several mistakes that made the games closer than they should have been. Against Blount the Owls fumbled a punt return around the 10 yard line and gave them a short field for one of their scores. They also had the ball inside our 35 like 4 times in the second half and were stopped by the "D" all 4 times. They had a powerful running back, Walker, maybe the best back we played against all year. Our offense was OK that night but not great. We scored on a long drive aided by three penalties to score the winning TD in the last 2 minutes of the game. The Blount fans will say they were bad calls, I didn't think so, but hey I am an Owl fan. Against Farragut in the regular season, we missed sacks on their QB several times on 3rd and forever, only to watch him scramble and complete passes to prolong drives and get points. The final was 30-28 but the game was not that close, their last TD was scored with less than a minute to play. They scored two 4th quarter TD's to make it that close. The Owls have improved alot since those two games. They have cut down on turnovers and penalties, learned from their mistakes. This team is steady, confident, and hungry. I Don't think any team still playing has gotten where they are by luck. Conrats on Smyrna's big win Friday, they must be playing very well right now also. Looking forward to a great game Friday! Go Owls.
  2. Thanks! I appreciate your comments. Farragut had a really good year. You guys represented our region in the play-offs very well. I think it stinks that you had to play three teams in the play-offs that you had already played. I still think TSSAA should cross up some of the regions during the play-offs so that doesn't happen until the semi's or maybe quarterfinals. See you guys next year, once for sure, who know's maybe twice again.
  3. I sense alot of RESPECT, as you put it, in your post for the Owls. Just curious what would you call respect, saying Smyrna is going to win? I have yet to see anything on this thread that should give you any idea that Ooltewah thinks this will be an easy victory. Let me tell these guys have been playing one game at a time all year. They don't look past anybody. Smyrna will get the full attention of the Owls, and Yes, THEY WILL BRING IT NEXT FRIDAY! I would expect no less from Smyrna either. May the best team win. GO Owls!
  4. He is slippery. Usually picks up a few running first downs every week. Very cool in the pocket but not afraid to pull it down and run. Seems to make good decisions with the football. Outside of BJ Coleman from McCallie, I think he is the best in the Chattanooga area.
  5. I am with you man. Can't follow that logic. Bottom line this should be a good game. Mistakes very well could tell the tale. Most teams we have been able to say they haven't seen a "D" like the Owls. I think Smyrna has seen a pretty good defense in Riverdale for sure. Ooltewah is not as one dimensional on offense as Riverdale. You try and stop the run they will get you with the pass. Can't wait til Friday. Go Owls!
  6. I think Sterling is a good back. He did not out play Marshall tonight, second time this year. Stop Sterling you stop Farragut. The Owls are not nearly as one dimensional as Farragut. See you guys next year, thanks for visiting the NEST. Great high school atmosphere tonight.
  7. I don't like the title of this thread but, tonight; Marshall had 170 yards on 19 carries and Sterling had 140 yards on 26 carries. Both are quality backs. Sterling is definately a one man offensive show at Farragut with Lawrence out. Stop him you basically stop Farragut. Try and stopp Marshall and someone else will carry the load for the Owls. Good Luck on the Mr. Football Award Sterling. Maybe Marshall will get his chance next year. Awesome pair of RB's coming back in Region 2 5A next year.
  8. Congrats to Farragut on a good season. Sterling runs hard, he is a very good back. Let's go Owls get ready for Smyrna. Keep playing them One game at a time. How about that Kick-off return team! Sean Sanders return was a back breaker!
  9. They don't want to move up, wait and see they will do whatever it takes to stay in 4A.
  10. TSSAA should not get 50%, that is what needs to change.
  11. What was the regular season score?
  12. I don't think anyone is bashing him. He showed alot of guts coming back in the game at least twice after some pretty tough hits. He is definately a gamer. I am not sure he had seen the team speed the Owls "D" showed him tonight. Good win for Ooltewah, time to move on to next week.
  13. Good post, I knew I could count on you to explain to all us that think we know the rules. Still not sure how they could run a play get sacked and still call timeout in 6 seconds, but that is in the past. I am glad they got the two forward pass call right, it might have gotten hairy if that play stands. I think the "D" played well tonight. Holding their QB in check was big.
  14. Farragut's back-up QB must have done pretty good this week. Any word on how Lawrence is doing? I heard one of the Walker boys from WB broke his leg during friday's game also.
  15. He, not I, is the Defensive Coordinator. I am just a fan like yourself. I too think the secondary is the weak link, but personel and sceam has something to do with it also. I like their chances next week. They will keep working hard on getting better, without Lansden for now. Go Owls!
  16. Who cares about past Championships unless you were part of one! If you were congrats. This is not the History channel. These teams are playing for now not the past. See you back at the Nest next week for another slobberknocker.
  17. Let's watch the name calling, I didn't seen Coach Greene play a single down this week or any other this year. He is a good coach. He is ten times better than what we had. The defense allowed 14 points tonight, both drives were kept alive by numerous penalties. All in all the "D" played a good game tonight. You have been an Owl supporter all year, I would suggest you support all The Owls. This is a TEAM, players, coaches, etc. We don't need the negative crap you are starting.
  18. Arsenio was complaining about the offensive player pushing off before the TD catch. (I think he was right.) He did not cuss the official, but he needs to learn to keep his mouth shut, he kept on complaining while walking back toward the huddle. In my opinion he did deserve a 15 yard penalty, be should not have gotten the second one nor been thrown out of the game. I don't think they should have put the 1 second back on the clock in the first place. Volmike will disagree, he always takes up for his boys in stripes. I think that may have been one of the worst officiated games I have seen all year. Thanks goodness our guys played through it. Go Owls!
  19. I guess your bracket is a little messed up now!!!!!
  20. Brain Marshall from Ooltewah is very hard to stop. Rarely goes down after initial contact. Definately one of the fastest guys in the state. From the players from other teams I have seen, I have been really impressed with 2 QB's, Jeremy Woods from Ooltewah, and the QB from Farragut. Both are very slippery and seem to be able to find an open receiver under pressure. Farragut's QB made some huge plays last week while running for his life.
  21. Good post Rigger! I agree with you, most high school athletes today are encouraged to specialize. At Ooltewah, there are several two sport athletes every year but a three sport athlete is vary rare. In my day, most athletes played three sports, you moved from one right into the other. The way most coaches today have some type of off season work outs athletes get behind and don't feel they can keep up with more than one sport. In my opinion, basketball and football seem to be the worst. Both seem to require tons of time especially in the summer. If you are a baseball player also, your summer is near impossible. There is really no way to play all three in todays system, especially in a high profile program.
  22. Still too much football left to play to know who goes where. Region 1 should be much clearer after this weeks games. Sevier Co. vs Bearden and Science Hill vs Karns. The Sevier/Bearden winner will probably finish #2 and the loser #3 or #4. The winner of the Karns/Science Hill game should be in #3 or #4 the loser probably gets to sit and watch. There is a whole thread on region 2, you should read the what if's there.
