  1. Please tell us more about the situtation, down, distance, where the ball was fumbled from. If it was fourth down and goal (since it is overtime) the call is correct. If first, second, or third, the ball should have been place at the spot of the fumble and ready for the next play.
  2. I am not sure how the money is split, but I do know that the officials are paid by the TSSAA and not the home team.
  3. Great topic!! Just to add to the criteria, how many of these have a super bowl ring? The only one I know of is Shelton Quarrels with Tampa Bay (Vanderbilt/ Whites Creek). But I am sure that there are more.
  4. I agree that the refs need to have a commanding knowledge of the rules. But there are instances when even the best officials make mistakes. This even happens in the NFL (ie. the use of instant replay). But when a rule is misapplied, the ref is first responsible BUT the coach should know the rules as well. Anytime a coach feels a rule has been misapplied, he can request a conference with the Referee.
  5. When you have off-setting penalties you replay the down. The defense is going to accept the penalty against the offense because if they don't the offense will score. The offense will accept the penalty against the defense to prevent being backed up 5, 10, or 15 yards. Therefore the play has to be repeated. As far as the halftime, the NFHS rules say that halftime is 15 minutes unless the home field adminstrator request it to be extended to 20 minutes if both bands show up.
  6. Just because some refs dont enforce it does not mean that is not a rule. An earlier post quoted from the NFHS rules book that it IS A RULE!!
  7. I beg to differ. A player does not have a right to wear wristbands where he "wants to". A player does have the right to wear the proper uniform as in accordance with the NFHS rules. The rules are clear on this subject. Not every official is enforcing this rule and that is a issue. Before a game starts, each coach is asked if his team is properly dressed. This is something the coach should take care of before the players hit the field and not the refs!
  8. Gentlemen, My rule book is at home and I will look it up tonight. Basically, players are allowed to wear wrist bands that meet certain requirements. One of the requirements is that they must be within three inches of the palm of the hand. I will look the rule up tonight and respond the exact words tomorrow. This rule is similar to the glove rule. They are allowed if they meet the requirements stated in the rule book. When I see players wearing them on their elbows or bicepts, I ask them,"What function do they have wearing them that high?" My response that been the same everytime, "It looks good!"
  9. If these ranking are based on last years records and this year's scrimage results, why is USJ listed and JCS not? JCS drilled McKenize in pre-season scrimage but I guess that doesn't count.

  11. I believe the best game to watch will be DCA @ JCS. Single A schools with a lot to prove.
  12. Topkak, Let me take a memory pill first. Going back to the mid eighties, the only head coach not to have played or assist coach would be Coach Pearson, twice. I know when he came back to DC for the 1987 season he came from Springfield. But during his first tenure I believe that he was hired straight in as head coach. The only assistant Coaches that I can think of who did not play or move up from the Jr. High levels would be Coach Beaubien, and Coach Shielly (misspelled). Someone correct me if I am wrong.
  13. gamesrus, I don't know if bring in someone from "outside the Dickson circle" would be a good thing for the program. Yes, it could bring in some new life and a different way of approaching the game. But would they know and appreciate the tradition and history of Dickson Co. Football. It might work or it may not. However, with the talent pool inside the circle it would be hard to look outside when we have coaches who need a chance to shine in their home towns.
  14. As one who played under Coach Pearson, the game will feel a great loss without him on the DC sidelines. As one who played along side Coach Williams, the spring practice is in very good hands. Troy knows the game inside and out. As far as the next Head Coach, Bledsoe, Beaubien, Williams, etc, all are good choices and should not hurt the qualtity of DC Football. However, if Bledsoe is interested in the job, his credientials would be hard to overlook.
  15. Nance, As it has already been stated on this subject, the rules for correcting an error in scoring are not TSSAA rules. They are National Federation rules adopted by the TSSAA. The rules are what they are and the TSSAA can not change them by itself. If everyone feels that it is such a great problem, then a coach needs to send a request to Mr. Carter. Then, at the next rules meeting of the National Federation, Mr. Carter can suggest a rule change or clarrification. (I wouldn't bet the farm on the rules being changed!!) Several people have made suggestions to review the tape and make a decision on the score. I have a problem with this. Not that I think that if a offical make an error, that the error should not be corrected. But if we open pandora's box and allow a video review for scoring corrections, then how long will it take for someone to want to review the tape for a judgement call that was missed. Or better yet, argue for or against a stalling call made by an offical. If the offical made an error, then he made an error. However, if the coaches and wrestlers left the mat area and then returned to the scorer's table to argue the score, then it is too late. End of discussion. I was not there nor do I know either wrestler. I am just feeding off of the facts touted here on CoachT. If the coaches never left the table and a third caution was called, all I can say is that officals are human and subject to make mistakes. We all need to learn from this event and push each of us to be better wrestlers, coaches, officals, parents and spectators. I'm now stepping down from my soapbox.
