  1. Talked to a reporter that watched the Heritage scrimmage with Seymour and PF. Heritage apparently looked pretty good after a slow start. Only one TD scored on them, while they scored 3 offensive TD's and 1def TD.
  2. Yesterday was the first football scrimmages of the year. Haven't heard/seen alot of chatter by anybody bout how they did yesterday.???
  3. The Tim Hammontree era has begun at Heritage High School. What is the opinion of spring practice and what should we expect to see this fall??
  4. This was his first year there at DC i believe.
  5. I remember him being very brash, almost arrogant. Not that that is a bad thing in a head coach... The upside to Hammontree is he is a NAME that people in blount county will identify with. He is a proven winner with what he did taking over the controls at MHS; and definitely knows coaching talent. Not sure how parents will take him, though. Could be the right fit. Wouldn't mind seeing what he could do.
  6. Wouldn't be too surprised to see GQ's old boss out there next year.
  7. I was at the game. I know it happened, and also know that they got their butts run off on Monday following. Agreed, two wrongs don't make it right, but again, you are dealing with teenagers, and teens do stupid stuff all the time. As to the coaches "standing around laughing about it" while it happened; why would they then turn around and put down the punishments that have been handed out? Doesn't add up.
  8. Lowkee - I hope you are not a WB coach as has been hinted on another message strand. But, the Heritage kids were remembering last year at the Shed and the Govs stomping and dancing on the H. I know for a fact that the WB coaches didn't stop that but attacked it in the same manner with their kids on Monday.
  9. Went to the Blount Co jamboree this weekend. One of the smallest crowds I can remember just from eyeballing the many empty seats. Have folks gotten a little tired of coming out to watch JV players? Even the coaches are now admitting they don't like them. New coach at WB said so in the paper. Any thoughts??
  10. I am definitely old and my eyesight ain't what it used to be. But, i remember seeing a big Douglas fella back there somewhat. Just callin it like I see it. Hope I am wrong.
  11. Have only seen Halls from what was on the news about them. They have alot of experience coming back. Did, however, go to the jamboree last Friday. This is a much smaller Maryville team than I have seen in many years. The Linebackers are quick, but don't look to have the stopping power of last year's linebacking corp. Surprisingly, Seymour was able to gain yardage up the middle a couple of times in their first offensive series. I look for GQ and the boys to right the ship pretty quickly. Good luck mighty REBS!
  12. Chip Fuller will definitely bring some good things to the table for the Mountaineers. The problem getting HHS back to the days of success hinges on two things: 1)stop the bleeding from losing quality athletes to other schools. Case in point, Tyler McGlothlin and Tyler Hartley. Both would have not only been starters but would have made a tremendous impact to this year's squad. Now, that is not whining about kids leaving. It has happened for as long as I can remember and thats 20+ years. 2) They have to taste what it is like to win. This years varsity group has experienced a great deal of that in their Frosh and JV seasons over the past couple of years. And I think that will carry over to their season. GOOD LUCK to the Mountaineers this year! Hope to see ya in the playoffs.
  13. The Turf model is a little less flexible than the court model giving greater support. I will say this, I have a girl that broke 3 ultra courts at the rivets...rubbed a hole from the friction and the rivets just fell out. Caused Breg to go back and look at that. I have not had the same problem with the Turf. I use the Turf post injury as well, getting great results.. Another benefit to the Ultra is very low ocurrence of blisters while breaking them in.
  14. Sofine you make several good points. In our clinic, we have put several players, particularly females in custom orthotics. There are a couple of studies....will have to go back to find them, that show reduced ocurrence of ACL injuries when orthotics are in their shoes. Now, I'm not trying to endorse custom orthotics for every ball player, but as you stated everything starts with proper biomechanics at the foot. And bad foot mechanics can cause knee problems and cause pain all the way up to the back. I prefer the Ultra Ankle for an acute sprain or chronic sprain, because it give more support than the ASA or ASO. But all of our basketball players wear them. And it makes my job much easier.
  15. There are a couple of schools of thought on using the hamstring to repair the acl. The first is that rehab and recovery are sped up, because taking the hamstring tendon does not interrupt the quadriceps muscle. Rebuilding the explosive quad muscle is imperative after surgery to make sure that the knee can get fully extended or straight. By not cutting into the quad tendon, that muscle remains pretty strong after surgery, allowing quicker return to strengthening and decreased loss of motion in getting the knee straight. Also, there is decreased pain in the front of the knee. And, for athletes that are on the floor or ground often, such as football players and wrestlers this is an important factor in returning to their sport. There is no significant studies that shows that hamstring grafts last longer or are better than quad tendon grafts. On the other hand, the quad tendon has bone chips on both ends which allows for a better and more snug fit where the acl attaches to the bones in the knees. This makes the graft more stable immediately. The hamstring does not have the bone chips on each end which is less stable and require a little more protection in rehab. There is substantial muscle loss by cutting into the quadriceps tendon and a considerable amount of early rehab time goes to strengthening it, in the long run the quad tendon has a better result.
  16. Don't judge so quickly. Ken Chaney is a good coach. He knows the offense very well. I work closely with the girls program and he is working with both guards on seeing the court better. Understand that the freshmen are just that 14-15 y.olds learning a new system. Morgan Thomas (#12) will be an all-state guard by the time she is a senior.
  17. Turtle First of all, get your story straight. Cait has NEVER had a torn ACL. She did injure her MCL last year, far less significant an injury. As to why does she play in a game in November... why does any starter play in November, they are competitors. Face it, every night is a crap shoot when you step onto the field of play whether it's November, December or March. She could just as easily been injured in mid-season. So, if she was going to be injured, better now, when a team can make the necessary adjustments, as opposed to last year when it was the last regular season game, with the districts starting days later. At any rate, best wishes to Cait and to the Lady Mountaineers.
  18. Heritage has not gotten their offense on course, yet. If they can put it together this week, they will beat Farragut. Both defenses should give the opposing offenses a hard time. Heritage DB's have played much better and they all love to hit, which is new for them. Heritage wins this one 14-10.
  19. Many prayers from Blount County to both the Pate family and Sevier County. May God bless you in this tragic time.
  20. Heritage has two good frosh that are already seeing 15+ minutes per game. Karly Stache and Katie Brooks. Practicing against Katie Mac every day will make you better or depressed.
  21. Check out the classifications on the TSSAA.ORG site. region 1-2 are the same essentially.
  22. I stated this in an earlier thread. If you are on team that has consistently been getting blown out and having 0-10, 1-9 years, after while you're going to have trouble getting the athletes on the field, much less stay at the school.( don't want to start that thread, again). If Alcoa had several seasons with that kind of record, they would have the same problem in getting kids on the field. YOU HAVE TO WIN GAMES TO GET THE KIDS TO BUY INTO A PROGRAM! PERIOD. Coach Rewis does have the best interest of the kids in mind, his record speaks for itself, he has been successful everywhere he has been with worse off programs than Heritage. One thing that most people don't understand is that schedules have to be looked at at the scheduling meetings. Typically, the AD or someone in the administration will call the opposing schools and tell them either yea or nea we will be able to keep you on our schedule for the next year. I don't know how the news of the drop was handled with Heritage and Alcoa, but that is always a possibility each year due to changes in region schedules. As to who Alcoa picked up. Only makes sense for the , ok I'll say it, the 2004 state champs to pick up a Fulton or Boyd-Buchanan, because they know that they can compete with that caliber of athletic progam. But, Heritage and WB are not going to go pick up Dobbins-Bennett or someone like that, because there not ready for that. But, WB will be MUCH improved next year. Heritage will be better, but still have to get kids to buy into a rebuilding program. I would still like to see both teams keep Alcoa on their respective schedules, but I understand. After all, they're just kids and it's still just a game.
  23. I really don't like the idea of dropping Alcoa from the county schedules. But, I do see the benefit from it. If you are a new coach trying to rebuild a program that has struggled to compete, you want to do anything possible to change it. When you go into a game with an attitude knowing the past and that you have rarely if never beaten a team that theoretically you should, the kids start to develop a mindset about it. Just think about UT/BAMA for so many years. And the losses to Alcoa/Maryville have gone on longer than that. Winning begets Winning. And, once these programs have been able to develop some winning attitudes, whose to say that both WB and HHS add Alcoa back to their schedule. Maryville will be in 5A in a couple of years so no reason to drop them. Probably causing some change in the Regions as they now exist, somebody will travel a whole lot more. I think these coaches have the best interest of their respective players at heart in these decisions. The fact that anybody would think this is due to spite is extremely closed minded. This change could make all the teams in blount county better, Alcoa will be able to play more competite teams and HHS and WB will be able to hopefully build on some success.
  24. A much improved Heritage Boys team. More fight to come back from 18 down at one point. Is this the same PF team that made it to sub state last year?
  25. I know several kids and coaches from both WB and Heritage. The Heritage boys have shown heart in every game I've seen, and the WB guys, from the coaches, have laid down at times. I think Ooltewah will play a very good game against the Cats. After friday, maybe closer than I first thought. But, don't know the story behind the score with Farragut. Has Farragut improved that much? Good luck to the Owls!
