  1. The one in the class A game may have been the worst I have seen in a State Tourney in my 30 plus years. TSSAA has to do some thing about the selection process or should I say the "good old boy/girl" process!!!!!
  2. Former Martin Westview/Henry County coach Tom Weeks coached Princeton, In. to the 3A State championship in Indiana this last Saturday night. Double overtime win to go undefeated for the season
  3. East Robertson 1987 team was 36-1 losing only to University Hgts out of Hopkinsville, KY. Had Mr Basketball as a senior( Fitz Jones) and Carlus Groves was a Soph and he was Mr Basketball his Sr year. Also the 1988 team went 37-2
  4. Best I can tell by your list, Oakland under coach King has made the sub-state 10 times. Lost in 5 and made the State 5 times, losing twice in the first round and 3 times in the semifinals. I thought they made the championship game one year??
  5. Randymac,. How many of the Dist/Region State tourn. has Coach King been the head coach. I know he was an Asst coach for a time at Oakland?
  6. OP you are correct about both having great tradition.Columbia has won 27 District championships, 10 Region championships 15 Substate/sectional appearances 10 State tourneys and 3 State Runner-up (92-93-99). Between Oakland and Columbia they have been dominant teams in Region 4AAA. Columbia did make the state semi-finals in 2003. From 1998 thru 2003 columbia won 4AAA 4 times, just some history. I know that wont help tomorrow, but it will be great to see these two old rivals square off.
  7. Agree with you about Andrews. Having seen all the region teams that are still playing, Andrews is the best scorer. Hammonds is a close second but he has a better supporting cast. If Shelbyville beats Cookeville and gets Twilly back to feed Andrews it could be a very entertaining game. we'll have to wait and see.
  8. Having seen all the teams play that are in the Region tourney, I would say Siegal is by far the favorite. That said, Oakland might have a slight edge on Columbia, but not by much, an edge to coaching/experience but Columbia is much quicker and deeper of the bench, Shelbyville/Cookeville will be close with out Twilley. I look for all 1 and 2 to advance.
  9. East Robertson 1982-1993 Nine trips to State Tourn. 4 State Championships and 1 Runnerup. Tony Cook (David Lipscomb/MTSU Lee Blakemore (Belmont) Scott Murphy (APSU) Wayne Cook (APSU) Fitz Jones (Trevecca) Mr Basketball Mike Webb (Rhodes) Marcus Bell (Cumberland) Jimbo Vaughn (Cumberland) Carlus Groves (UT/Europe) Mr Basketball David Woodard (Juco in alabama) These are in no particular order. I'm sure there others
  10. New Columbia Central announced today> Its official== Hal Murrell
  11. Another good season for Oakland. But, also another season to come up short of the state tourament. Can any one tell me Oaklands history for the last 10 years. Also when was the last time they actually won the game to get to the state. Coach king does a great job, but they seem to come up short this time of year.
  12. The reason TSSAA schools do not play Oak Hill or any other prep school of that type is because TSSAA schools are all governed by National High School Federatin rules. Its not the TSSAA that makes these rules. Its all 50 states that are members of the National Federation. The problem with Oak Hill is that they do not wish to go by NFHS rules. Thats why they have players that are too old to play in high school. They need to play against Jr. colleges or college JV. Sure they can win with older players, just like high school freshmen and sopomores would beat 7-8 grade teams. Its really sad to compare them against regular high school teams.
  13. Too bad Shelbyville wasnt playing. They know how to support girls hoops. But thats another story! Congrats to the lady pats and their excellent coach. The best basketball program in Rutherford county is at Oakland.....but its the Lady Patriots. Coach Grandstaff has been to the state tournament more times in the last 7/8 years than any other program in that county boys or girls. Plus they compete in the toughest AAA region/Sectional in Tennessee. Way to go !!!!! Too bad the school/community dont recognize good basketball.
  14. In recent years {last seven} Dist, 8AAA has won the region tournament. 1998-1999-2001-2002-2003. With the likelyhood that Columbia has returned to form, Will 8AAA continue to control the region????
  15. The 1987 East Robertson team could be one of the best ever Class A teams in Tennessee. They went 36-1 losing only to University Hgts of Hoptown,Ky. Fitz Jones was Mr. Baskerball and Carlos Groves was only a Sophomore. All five starters played college ball as well as the 6-7-8 men off the bench. The next year they repeated 37-2 and made it three in a row Groves senior year.
