  1. I have been at the tourneys and just got home. I'm a Chester Co. fan and must give credit to Bowman and her sharp shooting. It's hard to come back from such a deficit, but Chester Co. gave a great effort 2nd half outscoring Jackson Co. in 3rd and 4th quarters. The ball just didn't roll our way and we couldn't buy one/get a break when we cut it to 7. Jackson Co. (as well as the rest of us) know that you have to get some breaks (refer to Austin East game) and hit the shots you are supposed to hit (BIG FREE THROWS IN THAT GAME). Stars were lined up for Jackson Co. Hats off to them...they defended their title well and deserved to win it! Beat Chester from the outside and Westview from the inside! Hats off to all the teams/coaches competing and looking forward to next year!
  2. Don't forget that times change and run in cycles, and it wasn't too long ago that West TN teams were dominant! I'm not trying to make any predictions (too scary at this time of year), but I wouldn't be too sure about anything right now. There are more than 7 and 13AA teams in the tourney (who have also beat 7 and 13AA teams).
  3. Does anyone know who won this game? Score?
  4. I bet Rowsey's field goal percentage was higher!!!! 1 of 1 = 100%!!!! FT % 1 of 1 = 100%!!!! Clutch!!!!!
  5. They have plenty that can score. But like Wescharge said, Chester probally had 10 to 12 poss. the entire night. A couple missed shots early in each half was the difference. Also a couple of 3's in and out late. Chester played man, zone and trapped but McNairy had some good ball handlers who did an excellent job with the game plan. Chester invited them to drive but their was Rowsey waiting for them. Congrats to Amy, Lachrisha, Lawanna, Bianca, Shana, Rebecca and the entire Eaglette team and staff for keeping your cool and pulling out the win!
  6. We will see! Middle Tn hasn't faced Rowsey this year!
  7. Nice post fuquaismyhero... By the way...congratulations to REBECCA ROWSEY for being selected to play in the L'Adidas All-American game in Atlanta this April. 24 seniors across the nation were selected to participate. Regardless of whether Rowsey is selected as a Miss Basketball Finalist for the state of Tennessee, we are proud of her accomplishments and happy for her success. She is a wonderful person and we feel that she is very deserving. Oh yeah...rowseyandalltheeaglettesaremyheros!!!
  8. I agree, ac08. If you weren't there to witness it, it is a useless point to try to explain it. Chester Co. did not just sit back, but I really don't want to go into it. Chester Co. lives to play another day!!
  9. It's not that it was boring, it was more nerve racking. Chester played man defense and zone. It's not like they just stood there the entire game. McNairy did a very good job of playing keep-away and Chester Co. didn't hit some shots they normally hit, that's all. Give McNairy credit for a good game plan, and give Chester Co. credit for being patient and understanding that a win is a win, no matter how many points are scored!!!!!!!! The fans should be happy that they will get the opportunity to watch the Eaglettes play again.
  10. Want to talk about a player changing the game???? In a nut shell...McNairy knew that if they had played Chester Co. straight up, it would have been ugly. Rowsey touched the ball one time, because she was being doubled and every time the ball was passed into her, at least 3-4 players would converge on the ball foul her on the catch. What about the other players? Why couldn't they score? The guards had several three's to rattle out, and missed some shots that they normally hit at the beginning of the game. It became a situation that if they missed a shot, they knew McNairy was going to stall and hold the ball til the end of the quarter, trying to run the defense to death. So Chester was trying to be patient on offense and work the ball around. It was strictly a game about defense. If Chester had hit those jumpers early, it would have been a different game. It is nothing you can really describe, you just had to be there. McNairy scored on a lay-up and 2 free-throws. Bianca Thomas led all scorers with 4 points!! and Rowsey was 100% from the field and Free-Throw line!! Unbelievable!! But Chester Co. lives to play another day!!!!!!!!
  11. I was under the impression (according to the article in the Commercial Appeal, Feb 13) that the top three of each class would be announced March 3, and the awards banquet will be held on March 27th in Memphis. The new article says nothing about the March 27th date, so I went back and read the Feb 13th article which explains the awards banquet. Please tell me if I am wrong on this.
  12. Speaking of Rowsey...had 18 points with a double team all night. They both followed her when she went to stand in the corner. Rowsey and company held opponent to 2 points in the 2nd half (0 in the 3rd, and 2 in the 4th). Rowsey is my pick (tough to stop offensively and a defensive monster, averaging around 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots a game!!) [Edited by prov1 on 3-1-03 1:21A] [Edited by prov1 on 3-1-03 8:57A]
  13. I agree totally squid! Those five work as a unit and I would even say that Shana Davis should be there as well. All post season awards mean squat! I would bet that all who made it would trade them in to get back to the boro! Good luck Eaglettes!
  14. The 12 AA All-District Is as follows: Chester County: Rebecca Rowsey (MVP), LaCrisha Burton, Amy King, Bianca Thomas McNairy: Julie Hamm, Ashley Clayton, Jessica Robinson Humboldt:Kiuana Frazier, Ashley Hayes, Jessica Graves Bolivar: Tristan Johnson South Side: Tami Dotson Coach of the year: Lee Pipkin (Chester County)
  15. Congratulations to Amber Benjamin (Coffee Co) Rebecca Rowsey (Chester Co) and Ashley Shields (Melrose) for making the top 100 finalists for the McDonald's All American Game. For more info look at: www.mcdonaldsallamerican.com
  16. I agree "32". What a fun game for the fans to watch. Chester looked tight the first half and couldn't throw it in the ocean! Rowsey (senior) got all of her 15 pts. in the 2nd half, and Bianca Thomas (freshman) was remarkable...she took over the scoring load 1st half and ended up with 19 on the night. CC's guards are usually sharp shooters, but just couldn't get it together behind the arc. They sure did take care of the ball however! Chester Co. defense 2nd half is what was so outstanding. Gibson is a very good team and came out "in your face" all over the court. Good luck to both teams in the tourneys!
  17. Do coaches get paid to TEACH or coach? Do they get a salary to coach and a supplement to teach? This can go on and on so you guys have fun with it. Let me say this, The difference between a coach and a referee is that the coach signed a contract and the official is an independent contractor. Meaning an official never really knows if he has worked his last game or not. If a coach is certified and tenured then he will always have a job teaching because we defintely have a shortage of them. Good Luck to everyone in the tournaments and be safe!
  18. I personally have never seen an official be biased! If you have then you must know one personally that talked about it or was just popping off. I know several and have never heard anyone say or do anything that would indicate that. As far as Training goes, I agree that there could be more of it. I have seen supervisors at the games and have witnessed them talking to the refs afterwards. Remember that all high school officials have other jobs that support their family! Officiating is not their life nor should it be the coaches or players! The only way to get officials at the level training you want would require a lot more money for officials, supervisors, and schools. Life lessons are learned by success, defeat, dissappointment, mistakes, etc. That is what the game of basketball is about, not how bad or incompetent the officials are.
  19. Jackson North Side may be low on the strength of schedule rankings but they have 4 super athletic guards maybe 5 and two good size post players. They have a sophmore Brooks, that is super all-around but probally the best defensive guard I have seen in a while.
  20. I read the posts and posted my opinion. I guess you missed my point. Here is a rule for everyone: Coaches can only stand to give directions to a player, request a time out or correctable error, or to get a player for a sub. He/She cannot stand without doing either of these. So if officials just wanted to hand out T's for the heck of it then each time a coach stood up or questioned a call, no matter what tone they used it should be an automatic T. A coach that I know had that happen to them. He knew the rule and accepted it but he was still mad! Players cannot confer with the officials, by rule, on anything unless by the officials grace they let the captains talk to them.
  21. I was once told that a little knowledge was a dangerous thing! That sounds like what we have on here about officiating. Until you have stepped on the floor, read a rule book, or been through training( yes officials go through training) then just remember you are a fan along with the rest of us and you are always going to disagree with the refs. We could have the best refs in the world and we would find something to gripe about. It is part of the game people! Missed calls, no calls, WALKS, and T's. Every team has had an official make a call that changed the game whether it be for the good or bad. Get ready for it! It will happen again and again and again no matter who the ref is. Remember they are human. $25 an hour? It is more like $10 +time away from home after their normal job. Accountable? What do you want to happen? Do you want them to be fined or fired? If you fired one everytime they missed something then some of you on here would have to get out there. I will take my chances with what we have already. I am a coach, a ref, and a player just like the rest of us on this board and that is my opinion. On to a different thread.
  22. No disrespect meant by this, but I didn't use names because I didn't see the point. I believe people should make posts without directly offending others. There's really no sense in worrying about it. Just using it as an example. And this thread is really going no where; have a nice day!
  23. So, jabstep, you are calling me out for wanting to win? I have seen our team beating a team by 20 points with 1 minute to go...sub out...only to have the other team start pressing our subs to within 10 points (this all happended in about 30 seconds before we could get our starters back in). Should we fault the losing coach for trying to win? Talk about unwritten rules, I was under the impression the WRITTEN rule was whoever is ahead on the scoreboard at the end wins. If your idea of ethics is to give up when the other coach thinks it's time, then I'm glad my kids don't play for your team. Our teams have never cheated: pinched, been taught to fore-arm players in the head on screens, elbow them in the throat on rebounds (which I know a lot of this IS being taught by programs in the state). This, to me, is unethical basketball. However, teaching kids to give up just because the other team feels like it is time for them to concede, is ridiculous. Sorry if you don't agree, but I feel that I am anything but unethical. This is nothing more than our opinions anyway, and we could argue all day, but I don't like beating a dead horse. Difference of opinion, let's leave it at that.
